This is a nice thrift store with a range of clothing for both men and women, along with a good book selection organized by color, appliances, shoes, etc. The items are well organized and range from $1 bargains to more expensive items.
Wonderful finds, good quality stuff, reasonable prices and good periodic sales and rewards program. Best for books, clothing, and kitchen stuff (dishware, small appliances, serving stuff). Staff is very friendly and helpful. It can get picked over so you have to go often but the stock is constantly rotating and clothing is marked down 30% then 50% before finally ending up on the $1 rack.
(one issue.. since I often get there late - the folks working there turn off the hip music track one hour before closing and you can feel the bad vibes, frowns - and brusque reminders of closing soon - seems they want everyone out asap. w/o the music the place becomes two-dimensional)/////. You get the hand-me-downs from well-dressed college kids. Albeit sizes favor the svelt young things, i.e. small. Well organized compared to other outlets. I was especially tickled by the way they organized the many books.). They keep them by the color of the outside of the books - red books w red books, etc. How fun. - Theres a lot of music CDs if you are willing to pry them from the piles, and look behind for the hidden stacks/ prices are still lower than the SF outlet, but the clothes are often stained. And half the womens clothes are mixed in with the mens it seems sometimes.
Unless you’re quite the clothes thrifter you won’t find much here (that or you’re a bookworm). They have a lot of interesting things you can find here, though when in regards to objects outside paper and fashion there’s not much to see. Nevertheless it’s still a good place, it’s clean, mostly organized, and well mannered staff
I saw most people came here for clothes, but they do have a huge collection of other things as well. Books for example, paperback 1 dollar, hardcover 2 dollars. I have no idea what those books are about, but as I went through the shelves I did find something interesting! They also have quite a lot of vinyls and CDs, I saw some good CDs, some of those vinyls are also interesting, but I just don’t have a turntable with me in Berkeley to play records...The clothes are also in good condition and very cheap, some are quite stylish!People working in there are also very nice! This place is surprisingly good!
Managers play discreet games with the jewelry and personal contacts they have already pre arranged to get first dibs. Didnt know that was company policy. But I guess since the donations are free some people take it literally that way. Basically empty showcase play games with replenishment and have personal contacts walk up to greet at donation department than establish meeting somewhere inside of store to give buyers not customers the equal right to shop and treasure hunt. Very obvious and pretty insulting to people who faithfully donate and shop at locations.... Non profit? How do you share on yelp? People beware even though this is an ongoing problem and not fair to the public!!
Nice selection of clothing, dishes, cds, records, and knick knacks.
Much more organized and a better selection than the Goodwill stores in Berkeley. Goodwill however has more non-clothing items. The book area is particularly impressive, sorted by color, and the prices are even more so.
Large affordable book selection! Also lots of cute clothes at affordable prices, with some ticketed items only $1. Most of the proceeds go to charity supporting people with AIDS. Only complaint is that because of COVID, you cant try on clothes so its a hit/miss if youre bad at picking clothes that will fit.
I love the general selection, the convenience to where I live, and being able to support care and service in my community. But there are things I flat out wont buy there because theres no dressing rooms. I cant try things on to make sure they actually fit me, and with a no-return, no-exchange policy, my clothing budget can only stretch to the things I can try on over a tee-shirt while standing in the aisle.
This place has nearly single-handedly clothed me for the past five years. High quality finds from modern to vintage at incredibly affordable prices. I stop by whenever I need a wardrobe refresh and almost always find items I intend to keep for a lifetime.
Always good clothing options here. some things, jackets but mostly jeans, are overpriced. levi’s with huge obvious signs of wear $18, and things go very fast. it gets packed in the middle of the day with college students who have little manners
Went to see a show at the Greek this weekend ( 7-24 ) a 5 hour drive for us . i went cause my family wanted to support this thrift store . place had a decant selection of stuff, people were nice , reasonably easy parking an accessibility however the lady forgot to add one of the items my daughter selected and left it off to the side, my daughter didnt notice an i paid there over priced 90 dollars for a few outfits an left. when she got to the motel , she realized there a missing item ,we went back the next morning to get the item before we drove home and was told if it was still there , its in the pile in the back from yesterday waiting to be sorted and were told that no one would go find it even after being asked a few times by my wife an daughter . bear in mind the dress was distinctive in both color ( red ) an design (long, plain, slinky dinner dress , lots of fabric )and was left because of a mistake of the sales lady .... the treatment was kinda of a disappointment to my daughter after she made sure i went out of my way for her to shop there and support them and after the price they charge for the free stuff they get.
I love to donate my things here so easy to park on the side and drop off donations, I have not donated in a while I was wondering what times & days is it open to drop donations off? Thank you!
Found so many good pieces for great prices. Its not always going to have hits, but this place has found me the most gems.
I cant stress how much a better selection there is than the other Oakland Out of the Closet. Much less ratchet inside as well. The one person I saw working was very very nice. Affordable for the most part, although a muffin pan I had a hankering for cost pretty much as much as a brand-new one.
Good selection and prices. No large, but well organized. They have tag sales, certain colors tag provide a discounted price. My first time there, will definitely go back with friends. The counter service could have been more polite.
Super cool little mom and pop reseller. I like going here. Berkeleys thirtfs have awesomely raised the bar for the its still good statement. With well organized racks, I can actually find my size. Keep up the great work 👍
One of the best thrift stores in town. They have everything you’d need to setup your new home. And the money you spend goes to a very good cause ❤️ staff is very helpful.
Ootc is a great chain of not for profit thrift stores.this location is avery good one...tho there are none that are bad. They each tend to have a local style and get slightly different types of items.great for clothes and house wears especially.theres another one in oak by lake merrit & at least 2 in Sf.im a fan.
I called to ask about donations because its a far drive for me to make. They were short on the phone, neglected to mention that theres a huge list of things they DONT accept. Thinking that it would be okay I made the drive anyway and then the guy tore open my bags and said they couldnt accept it! Dont tear my stuff to give it back to me. What a WASTE of TIME to deal with rude staff!Went inside to see the quality of the other donations and it was pretty sad. Well worn, stained, and musty smelling. Very disappointing
First of all, the book selection is extensive. Second of all, the woman behind the counter actually asked for my ID when I went to pay with my card. I said “thank you!”. So many people don’t do this, they don’t care or don’t know. I’m very impressed
Great selection, really good prices and well organized! They have a huge selection of books. Also good quality furniture.
A really awsome selection selection of clothing and a lot more items 30 to 50 percent off. Book sections looks good.
I fell in love with this place! Good selection for clothing. Unhappily, most of the clothes I liked didnt fit me, but if you keep looking you could find some treasures 😉
Not a good selection of stuff. some of it they shouldn’t be selling it but instead giving it away. Lived next door for two years and I knew not to bother going in there because of the quality of the things they sell. But every so often I would think maybe they fixed it or maybe it’s better than last time but nope
I found several pairs of expensive reading glasses here very nice very well made and very excellent price I am very happy with my purchases...
Great value. Friendly staff. Good collection. You need a little patience to find what you love. But that to me is the real thrift store experience!
Clothing selection at this location is usually not to my tastes, but I always manage to find great scores in the Accessorries and Bricka Brack sections! Free parking in lot behind the store is much appreciated!
Not only do they benefit a great cause, but their selection and prices are better than the Goodwill nearby. It would be nice if the dressing rooms were a bit more private..
One of my favourite thrift stores. You can often get great deals & rare finds here. I wish they carried more dinnerware & furniture though.
A good selection of goods. The prices are a little too high for me. The clothing is organized well. There are a LOT of CDs which I enjoy perusing. Ties are $2.50.
Out of the Closet was clean and orderly, but did not have much of a selection. I still like them for their mission, but I dont think it holds any attraction for me.
I hadnt been in on a while, and to my surprise...IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Something has changed for the better. And seems as though everyone knows, they have lines outside 😰
Found tons of cool stuff for a great price! also found a tommy hilfiger dress but it didnt fit me. Woman in the front was nice and helpful.
Just a suggestion. Its a second hand store. Needs more organization. Im this day and age of saving money, presentation can be huge when trying to get higher prices for used items.
It was Nice😀😀! and they have Good people working there yep😀😀!! Stop by there if you all have time and tell them Johnny sent you😀
Favorite thrift store. They donate proceeds to HIV/AIDS research. Offer free condoms. Always a good collection of stuff at normal thrift store prices.
A thrift store stand-by with the best prices in town. Always something to find here. In addition to clothes they have books, DVDs, furniture and housewares.
The prices were not what I am use to seeing when it looked the same and smelled the same as other thrift stores Ive been too.
Seems to be a location with lots of merchandise. Good prices on furniture. Benefits a good cause. Lots of interesting books. Sweet spot.
So many rules about what they wont accept for donations... They wanted to test all the zippers and wheels on the (nice) suitcases I gave them before letting me leave
What a Beautiful place to shop and get Good Old Fashion Customer Service:) :) :). Everyone was Good to me and Ill be back again soon:) :).
Pretty warned off clothing , the store itself has a strong odor . items as electronics are outdated some are not useful .girls can find shoes perhaps a bag .
Good place to stop in once every 3 months or so Eclectic mix of stuff where you can get some great deals.
Since savers shut down I came here to recycle some of my unwanted clothes and books. They took everything and it was a quick and easy process.
I got some decent furniture and household items from here. Unfortunately, most of the clothes are in poor condition in my opinion.
Pretty decent. Mostly womens clothes. I did find mens shoes that fit me for 5 bucks
Plenty of thrift shop finds. Plus you can always donate here and it is for a good cause, they help those with HIV.
Inventory up and down. Aleays fun to shop. Parking lot in back.
A very large thrift store right on University Ave. The selection varies, but we found an awesome picture frame here!
I love to buy clothes that probably 90% are uniques...nobody will have them and a excellent price. Reuse and recycle.
Always find great stuff with great prices
Lately: prices WAY UP ...selection and quality WAY DOWN ... What Happened since Krystal Left ... Off my list of places to go by frequently ... Bring up your GAME or give it up 10-2017
Most employees were super rude &acted like my presence was an inconvenienceRefused to discount stained/broken items
Not a huge selection, seemed like pretty cheap prices. Clothing was on the well-worn side, about 2 racks worth of mens clothing.
Decent selection but over priced IMO
Good parking, crowded inside, reasonable prices, some great bargains.
2nd Hand (vintage) clothing & items. Neat & organized store, informative staff.
Good selection, friendly staff. Glad to support their important work!
Lucky enough to find a pretty good coffee table for $40..
Standard thrift store. Havent found anything amazing here, but the prices are decent.
Smaller but many things, friendly staff. The shop benifits LGBL etc. group
Its an alright thrift store but lacking a wider selections of stuff besides clothing.
They have tgeir own parking and street parking is easily available
The Manager is a good man! Important when dealing in this area. Thanks.
I always find good deals, the price is right!!
Be aware there is no fitting room or a mirror
Friendly staff clean thrift store. Supports AIDS patients plus awareness
Found some great picks here, good selection, good prices
Nice staff, clean store, good selection
Very fair thrift store prices. Good bargins
Nice clothes and prices. Discount every day
Good if youre looking for used iron
No bad, means have good staff.
Love this store. Found exactly what I needed
Decent selection but I often leave emptyhanded
The investment tory was strewn about. The place seemed generally understaffed.
Need more mens clothes. Have some transferred from another store or something
Making our donations here... note that they do not take kids clothes.
Not much choice here, not as clean as some thrift stores.
This place is so clean, people in there are so nice 😘
You can find some good bargains here.
Love this place. Free condoms too.
Decent inventory but over priced.
Great experience shopping, friendly.
This is my favorite place on the entire planet

Awesome😗
It was ok
Reasonable prices

The BEST:) :) :)!
Okay stuff
Hit or miss
They dont have good service and they also sell more than what they are worth. I even bought some boots and when I checked them at my house they were useless because they were broken and they wouldnt want to give me a change or a minimum of credit for the broken boots.
I love this store I always find things at a good price and they have discounts and they have parking ❤️❤️❤️
I liked this store and another one that doesnt abuse donations and gives some good prices but the prices should be a little lower so they would have more people.
Good... pleasant, the staff are attentive to customers, reasonable prices... pukita area
I like you leave
Very second hand second hand store
