Dr. Furr relocated to Advent Health in Tampa, Florida and is an excellent GYN doctor. I saw him for the first time in June 2024 and he did a total Hysterectomy on me on July 1, 2024 and I have to say I am very pleased with him. He is a very good Doctor as far as Im concerned.

I was referred to Dr. Furr for my Endometriosis. He was supposed to be the best. I have been in so much pain for over a year. So I was excited to be getting this surgery and to hopefully be pain free. Two weeks before my surgery his office called me and told me my surgery was cancelled, because he was moving to Florida!!! I was very disappointed. I believe a doctor should finish what he started. Dr. Furr hopefully you want do your patients in Florida this way!!!! You should never leave a patient in so much pain!!!!!!

I cannot recommend Dr. Furr enough! I had not had any symptoms of endometriosis until I was 45 (including have 5 babies no problem). Then I began with the excruciating cycles that many of you know so well. I thought I should just see my normal ObGyn for treatment but due to Kaiser and then a move across country, treatment was delayed. In that time I had a dear friend who explained that I SHOULD NOT go to my regular obgyn and that I needed to see a doctor who has completed the fellowship in advanced minimally invasion gynocologic surgery (MIGS). I didnt even know that was a thing. It means that after they have received all the training to become a full fledged obgyn, they spend an additional 2 or 3 years training in gynecological SURGERY. I honestly just thought I would need a hysterectomy and it wouldnt be a big deal so I went to a highly qualified local obgyn and he performed a CT scan and ultrasound but actually said surgery wouldnt help me because surgery doesnt take the pain away. WRONG! That is the experience of his patients because he is not trained to perform excision surgery so he misses some of the endo. I was so distraught because I felt like I was dying! I found Dr. Furr (no help to insurance because they dont have a special category to find obgyns with the additional MIGS training so you just have to look up each doctor name by name) and met him July 2023. He was so nice! And based on my symptoms and the scans he scheduled surgery. I had surgery on Sept 6th. I really thought it was overkill to have such a highly trained surgeon for my simple hysterectomy. Well I was wrong! My endo was stage IV with a frozen pelvis and I had it on a number of organs. Nothing was in the right place and everything was fully adhesed to other stuff. My surgery lasted over 5 hours with the DaVinci robotic arm. Thank God I was not with a regular obgyn. At my follow-up my husband asked what would have happened if I had been at a regular obgyn and he said they would have had to cut me open (non-lap) and probably removed part of my large intestine! And I would still be in pain! We drove hours and had to stay in a hotel to go to Dr. Furr and it was worth every minute and inconvenience because 6 months later I am pain free! There is no more pain and I feel stronger than I have the last 20 years! Recovery was harder than I thought because I had no idea I was going to have such major surgery but it wasnt horrible (never as painful as prior to surgery) and Dr. Furr is very responsive to questions and concerns via text after surgery. Ladies if you are close to Chattanooga, TN, go to Dr. Furr. If it is too far then find a surgeon with the advanced MIGS training. DO NOT have surgery with your regular obgyn! If you are having surgery, you should have a surgeon who is specifically trained for that not a doctor who is trained in catching babies. They are different areas of expertise. Just like you wouldnt have an orthoscopic doctor catch your babies, you dont have the baby catcher perform highly specialized surgery. (This is not a c-section, folks!) In a sane world, a MIGS excision specialists would have their own title since it is so different. I can say that if any of my 4 daughters has any symptoms of endo we will be going to Dr. Furr and I would feel totally confident that he would take excellent care of her.

Dr. Furr is amazing and worth the wait to see him. He gave me my life back. And his nurse practitioner, Jessica Smith is just as amazing. She sat and listened to every single concern and gave me plenty of options. I have experienced canceled appointments, but his staff has always been helpful and kind and get me rescheduled just as soon as they can. I drive two hours to see him/his staff and it is never wasted. I will never regret all the hours, money or miles Ive spent to see him.

Dr. Furr is truly the best doctor I have ever encountered. I was recently diagnosed by him with endometriosis after around 17 years of telling many other doctors and NPs about my symptoms. By the time one doctor had suggested it, I had done a lot of learning about the disease myself. I knew that the way my local doctor was going to treat it was very different than Dr. Furr, and outdated and often unsuccessful. I am so glad I decided to switch my care over to Dr. Furr. Not only is he an expert surgeon, he cares about every detail down to making sure that my husband was able to fill my prescription correctly when the pharmacy gave him issues. His staff is top notch as well and went above and beyond for me in every way they could. I highly recommend!!

Dr. Furr and his team are busy, but theyre popular because theyre good. Dr. Furr was recommended by members of Nancys nook. You will have to wait to be seen, but the level of expertise is high. Dr Furr respects you and does what needs to be done, unlike some other providers. They are very familiar and fast with the surgery process so you might feel rushed or a little bit of pressure or influence to do things you may not have considered doing. The benefit though, is that they really know what theyre doing and they will do their absolute best to make sure you have the best health outcome possible. My external stitches are a bit messy, but otherwise it seems like my surgery was a total success. Im seeing benefits after only a few weeks of recovery. Well worth the wait.He is so busy that it is difficult to get scripts through him, but Im sticking with it because I need his expertise. The hrt hes put me on has been the most effective hormone treatment Ive experienced so far.The hospital I was treated at, Erlanger, deserves its own review... Remember to view the surgical facility independently of the provider. Please be cautious when reading negative reviews... To no fault of Dr. Furr, surgery can be hard on the body, and pain can persist. Thats just the nature of the nervous system and endometriosis. Physical therapy is an absolutely wonderful tool for training the nervous system and reducing symptoms of many types. Many insurances cover physical therapy so its worth looking into if you need help rebounding after surgery, or if youre trying to prevent surgery. Pelvic specialists are amazing. Get a consultation and recovery plan in place prior to surgery if you can. With the combination of the surgeries Ive had, a healthy vegan diet, physical therapy and hrt, Im in so much less pain after over 20 years of suffering. Go see Dr. Furr. Hes helping me get my life back. Maybe he can help with yours too.I wish you good luck and good health!

Edited 8/22/2023; The office called me a month after the missed virtual appointment to reschedule for 8/21/2023. Dr. Furr again did not call me as scheduled. Completely unprofessional. If you need to see him, do not schedule a phone appointment because it obviously will not happen.Dont schedule a phone/virtual appointment with him because he wont honor it and will treat you like an option. I had an appointment scheduled and the staff called to say he had to leave to go to his childs sporting event and that he would either call me while driving (how is this even possibly effective?!) or the next day between surgeries. Never heard from him. I waited months for this appointment. I live 2 1/2 hours from his office, so the call was the best and earliest option I could get to see him. Now I have to start from scratch. Our medical system is pathetic.

Went to several ob/gyno doctors in the Chattanooga area and Dr. Furr was the only one that didn’t just throw birth control pills to mask my problems. He sought the root of the cause and I had two successful surgeries that fixed me right up. If you have endo he is definitely the doctor to take care of it.

Dr. Furr changed my life in the best way! I went in seeking sterilization (bilateral salpingectomy). I’m in my early thirties and have experienced pushback from other gyns for years insisting I reconsider or insisting on getting my husband’s “permission”.Not only did this NOT happen at Dr. Furr’s office, but I was listened to in regards to my general symptoms. He suggested considering a hysterectomy given my symptoms hinting at endometriosis. But he didn’t pressure me any way, and I asked plenty of questions.A total hysterectomy and endometriosis removal (and appendectomy while he was in there) itself was quick and relatively painless; i was given a ton of information before and after surgery and plenty of pain meds. I was back to work in six days! Recovery went smoothly. His office responds quickly to messages left on voicemail as well. If you’re looking for a surgeon for sterilization or endometriosis, Dr. Furr is your guy!!

Dr. Furr and his team made me feel like I was part of some mill factory. For example, okay you need a hysterectomy done and did not look at me as an individual patient. Dr. Furr did not communicate to my family or myself that he hit my bowel during surgery. The amount of pain medicines he gave me were too much and I passed out home and was rushed to the ER and they flushed the medicines out of my system. The ER doctor asked me who prescribed these pain medicines to you. The combination could be deadly. Day 27 of post surgery I developed an infection. The single site incision through the belly button created a massive infection thankfully it was cleared after 9 days of antibiotics but I also developed an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and had to get off those. After 10+ weeks post surgery, I notice that my bladder had dropped and I was swollen all around my private area that is when I decided it was time to see another doctor. Currently seeing another doctor who is trying to make me better and asked me why did I ever go to Dr. Furr. Ladies, stay away from this doctor and his team.

Dr. Furr is absolutely amazing! After going through several doctors to find answers I finally found the one! Dr. Furr listened to my chain of events from beginning to end. He knew exactly the problem going into surgery. Exactly a month from my first visit I was suited up ready to be fixed (for the most part). Even before surgery we went over everything again to make sure I understood the procedures being performed. 4 months later and (knock on wood) there hasnt been any complications or pain! He treats me like family and I have the upmost respect for him. he truly is amazing! Thank you Dr. Furr. You fixed me. :)

Dr. Furr changed my life! I am pain-free for the first time in over a decade, I have energy, vitality, and finally have hope for a future I thought would never be an option for me.It is rare to find a surgeon who is more than just an expert in their field, but also personable, with excellent bedside manner. Dr. Furr is a surgeon who can give you the cold, hard facts but is sensitive to how those facts effect you. He is the most thorough, attentive, and knowledgeable surgeon I have ever met. He is available at any moment before and after surgery, even giving you his cell phone number after the surgery. (Ill share some of my personal experience with him below, but if youre not interested, theres no need to read beyond this paragraph.) I highly recommend Dr. Furr for any gynecological concerns. I cant rate him highly enough or thank him often enough, but I will do so every chance I get.My story:After two endometriosis surgeries (both performed, expertly, by Dr. Furr), and ten years of treatment, I decided to consult with Dr. Furr about a hysterectomy. The most important aspect of my consultation with him was that he provided me with information, and only gave opinions when I asked for them. He explained everything very clearly and allowed me to make the right choice for myself, promising that he would honor my choice without pressure, even if I changed my mind just minutes before the surgery.Within two days of my surgery, physically, I felt better than I had since my mid-twenties (I am 35 now). He told me everything I needed to know about the surgery and took the time to reassure me that Id made the right choice for my health. He provides all of his patients with his personal cell phone number and responds very quickly. For the first two surgeries, I called him with questions but this time, it was easier for me to text and he was just as thorough as he would be on the phone.I have healed wonderfully and am now on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy because my ovaries were removed. I see a specialist, Nico, in his practice (Womens Surgery Center), who is just as thorough. Between the two of them, I couldnt be any more pleased with the choice I made for my health.

Dr Furr is amazing, he is very attentive, listened to everything I had to say and wrote it down. He is the first Gyn that actually listened to me and wasn’t in a rush to get me out of his office to see the next patient. He and his staff are very caring and that’s why I chose him for my surgeon. Everyone from his other patients to hospital outpatient surgery staff had nothing but kind words to say about him.

After 11+ years of pain, I am now pain free! Before the surgery almost every time I would sit up or roll over, I would feel a stabbing pain in addition to the constant pelvic discomfort. Dr. Furr took the time during surgery to find everything that was wrong or might be causing me pain. He and his staff are wonderful and I am grateful my specialist referred me. That referral changed my life for the better.

I was in Fl and called just to see if there were any pudendal nerve surgeons. Emily told me Dr Furr now did the surgery. Hallelujah she got me in for exploration. He found I was covered with endometriosis. Surprise and no reason. He quickly took care of that now literally keeps me alive with internal blocksLife is still always pain but I absolutely would not be alive in this illness also called the Suicide Disease. I wanted to post this review about my recent experience with Dr. Furr and his office. I have been a patient of nurse practitioner Honiko Morrison for the last few years. I had never had any wait time issues until today. I have recently had some issues and after an ultrasound I had to schedule a consult with Dr. Furr to help resolve these issues. I have been waiting a month to see him and upon arrival this morning, I noticed the office was full of patients waiting to see Dr. Furr. After waiting 45 minutes and noticing that only 2 patients were taken back to see the doctor; there were still 2 more patients in front of me and I over heard a patient ask if they were behind. The receptionist replied a little and she asked how long to which she replied an hour and 1/2 behind. “An hour and 1/2” is not a little behind when there are still patients before us waiting to go in and no patients are leaving the office. She asked if he was the only doctor and she replied they had another coming in but the doctor was not there yet. I concluded quickly that it was going to be another hour for me to see the doctor and I was going to be extremely late for work. I’m sure they feel that we take the whole day off to go to the doctor to just wait until he has time to see each of us. I rescheduled and was told I could get in next week but I had previously called to reschedule to another day and they told me that I couldn’t see him til October. The staff knew Dr Furr was almost 2 hours behind, but they did not tell any of the patients. They just let us sit for 1hour+. Someone had to ask a couple of times before we found out how long he was behind schedule. Had I known when I signed in that he was 1.5 hours behind schedule, I would have rescheduled and returned to work. But since they didn’t tell any patients, that is totally inexcusable. On top of that, knowing they were 1.5 hours behind, I heard the staff schedule someone for later that morning. Why are you scheduling other patients when you can’t even see the ones already there? And why schedule someone and not tell them that they will have a long wait ahead of them. Communication is the key, and this office clearly doesn’t believe in open and honest communication. I came home today and found another Obgyn and scheduled an appointment for a future date and I will be taking my business elsewhere. Maybe they don’t value my time but I certainly do.
