This place was absolutely wonderful, I had not had a lot of health intervention since my appendectomy 7-8 years ago, decided I needed to make a health appt and such and let me just say, I had a lot of anxiety about it, Shannon made it an absolutely wonderful experience. It was pleasant from the front staff to the back staff. Shannon has great bedside manner, walked me through everything, was just very kind all around. Thank you all very much!
I had a horrible experience with OBGYN Heidi May. I called in wanting to get my first Pap smear done because I’ve been having pain in my uterus. I go in, and Heidi May asks me the standard questions about my issues sexual history, etc. and is off the bat extremely judgemental. I told her I’ve had previous sexual partners in the past, but have been with the same partner for 3 years now. She then insinuates that I’ve cheated on my husband and have had sexual relations with someone else recently as my issues just started. I was so shocked all I said was no. She then insists I have an Std and tells me I need to do a STD test. I tell her I don’t believe I have any STD’s as I would have symptoms by now (the only std that won’t show symptoms for years is hiv/aids) and she just tells me no and peer pressured me to do an std test. I assumed we were still doing the Pap smear because that’s what I made my appointment for when I called in, and I found out after the fact weeks later we never did a Pap smear!!!!!! My std test comes back completely negative, and she made me feel so judged and shamed for having a sexual past. I’m now 1k in medical expenses still experiencing the same issues and I don’t know what to do and refuse to go back. EXTREMELY unprofessional, and should not be in such an intimate and personal field of work. That was the main issue, I also told her I just got off of birth control and I feel like my issues were related to birth control, she asked me if I wanted to get back on it and I told her no, I wanted to track my cycle a natural way and not be on medications. She looked me in the eye and said “are you prepared to have a baby?” I was thrown off guard and I told her “well I am married, we’re not necessarily trying but we would be thrilled nevertheless if it happened” she was writing on her paper as I was saying this, and she raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes as she said okay. I would never recommend her to anybody.
I’ve seen DeLys Cooks for the last couple of years and have really appreciated her care! She is thoughtful and thorough. Also, the front staff has been happy and helpful.Comfortable experience all around.
We recently moved here short term and after having the worst experience with trying to schedule with IWH, I asked the moms community on facebook and they all recommended Chena OB/GYN. Scheduling my first prenatal appointment was a breeze. All the front desk ladies are very nice and pleasant on the phone and in person. I saw DeLys Cooks for my prenatal care and she has been nothing short of wonderful. Her beside manner is out of this world. I never feel rushed in any of my checkups, I always feel heard. I am very sad that we are moving out of state again and I will not have her on my birthing team. The texting feature on the Healow app is great and they are very attentive in responding back to you (the team of nurses) and they are all so caring. I definitely recommend Chena!!
We just got done having our first baby and that came with a lot of challenges and feels like a long and short journey at the same time, but through it all the team at Chena Health has been there and been on top of their stuff, from our wonderful doctor to the support staff it has been amazing, I will continue to go here for all my needs they can meet, and they work vehicle well with fmh and over all has been the best hospital experience I have ever had. I easily and confidently recommend them to everyone
If I could give 0 stars I would. I wouldn’t recommend Chena health to anyone. I’ve been going to them since 2018, when I went in to get a health screening and get on birth control. I explained to Dr. Hogenson that I don’t have regular periods, that I would go a year without having one. I was told it was because I’m young and overweight it would work itself out. Fast forward to March 2022 I went back because my husband and I were struggling to conceive, and I explained that my last period was over a year ago, she then told me how abnormal it was that I didn’t have a period and when I said “you told me at 18 it was normal” she said she never said that. I had a bunch of tests run as did my husband. We eventually started taking a fertility medication called clomid, we did two cycles in 2022 both resulted in no pregnancy. During those two cycles they did 1 ultrasound for each cycle. We took about 3 months off and got back to the treatments at the end of December 2022 / early January 2023. We did 2 more cycles, and the first cycle they didn’t do any ultrasounds to see follicle growth. I ovulated super early and again did not get pregnant. The last cycle we did with them I suggested a trigger shot and monitoring the follicle growth. I was told I don’t qualify for the trigger shot because I ovulated “on my own.” We did the last cycle and I ovulated super late. Again not pregnant. After I got my period they told me I needed to reach out to a clinic out of state. We did just that, and after talking with a doctor from Seattle we came up with a plan. First thing is I absolutely qualify for the trigger shot. We did one cycle changing nothing same medication dose and no trigger shot didn’t get pregnant this cycle. Immediately after the negative pregnancy test they upped my dose of medication and we did the trigger shot. I’m currently pregnant. Don’t go here.
Kenzie ,Jackie , Leslie ...heck the whole dang staff are amazing , caring, professional. I just love them. You could not ask for better care!!!
Not really sure where to start, this is for the OB department. They are way over booked and do not have time for each patient, and definitely do not have time for high risk patients. As an extremely high risk patient ive had to ask for all the testing AND my Rhogam shot I needed, my appointments have only been every 7-8 weeks because my doctor isnt available, seen a midwife and she couldnt answer any questions intel she talked to my doctor, so not worth the appointment in anyway. Im a fall risk as I have a neurological disease and not once been talked to about it, Iron is extremely low, Im having alot of extreme confusion that has not once been addressed, blackouts with falling, migraines every day, swelling, craving toothpaste, dehydrated, leg numbness, extreme fatigue....Just to give some ideas...but my doctor isnt available for another 4 weeks to see me. Im 32 weeks pregnant and wont get to see a doctor tell im almost 36 weeks..... not the care anyone deserves.( I havent seen a doctor in 3 weeks already, so plus 4 weeks= 7 weeks between appointments)
We had a wonderful experience with midwife Courtney Amundson, I can’t recommend her enough! Everyone in the office was kind and attentive, and listened to all my concerns when they arose. All around fantastic care! :-)
Everything about this place is amazing. I went here my whole pregnancy and 4 months after until we moved to a different state. The receptionists are all amazing and I called frequently. The nurse advice line is phenomenal and the doctors are outstanding. Kimberly Schumacher was my OB and the most caring doctor I have ever had, she made me feel so comfortable and was amazing during delivery as well. I saw almost every provider and they were all amazing but dr Schumacher will be missed the most. I wish I could find a doctor like her where we live now.
If I could give each department their own star rating, the family medical would get 1 star just cause you cant do 0 stars. And the OBGYN would get a 4 star rating.Family medical- 0 stars, I started going there and from what and how they were saying things, as a new parent, it sounds like my newborn baby was dying and my husband and I are were horrible parents. One weve never had a kid before, two the doctors at the hospital in the birthing room didnt show us how to breast feed her even after us telling them that she was our first child, and three everyone expected us to know everything on how to be a parent already. So then after two appointments with them we decided to go to a different doctors office. The doctors over at chena started calling me and bugging me, making me wanna get rid of my kid. So the last time they called me and talked to me i let them know kindly that we switched doctors, they said okay and hung up then 30 minutes later child services called me and said theres a case filed against us. So as a mother with post pardum depression and anxiety I had to deal with OCS also which made things worse all in all. I had a little bit of symptoms before hand but after that I have it bad.OBGYN- I started out with Dr. Schumacher, and she did good up until she started saying the baby is shrinking. I could understand them not getting enough nutrition but that wouldnt make them shrink in you, the fetus would just stop growing. So I then moved to Dr. Amundson and she did everything great, she was there for it all thankfully.
I went to Chena OBGYN with my first two pregnancies and saw Dale Hardy. He is the most amazing midwife! He is hysterically funny and turns an awkward situation comfortable. The staff there is amazing as well. Dr Shannon is super incredible as well. It is very easy to connect with her and open up to her about situations you might not want to mention. I would fly halfway around the world to have these two part of any pregnancy of mine. They truly are super amazing!
I cannot say enough positive things about this practice. From the office staff to the doctors and nurses- everyone was always extremely kind and efficient, My wife is seeing Dr.Hogenson for her prenatal care and She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, HIGHLY recommend her as one of the most caring, empathetic, highly knowledgeable OB-GYNS a patient could hope to find, (we could not ask for a better doctor!) I highly recommend this office to anyone who is pregnant and looking for great care.
This office is horrible. I have been trying to get my prescription for a month now. I have called and no one answers the phone. I was told by a guy my prescription would be emailed but he never emailed it. I finally got in touch with someone who was able to help me and keep her word. Thanks to Brie Medina, I can finally see! Glasses are a necessity and should be treated with urgency.
I have been a patient at Chena OBGYN since 2006. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences and care. I have delivered 2 children though this clinic and had multiple surgeries. Patient care clearly come first from the providers and staff at Chena OBGYN. I would trust my life and the lives of my children to the medical staff at Chena. I would highly recommend this clinic for OB/GYN/ or general medicine.
After years of trying to figure out what was wrong, I was encouraged by my Nurse to go see Chena Health OBGYN. I really didnt know what to expect and no one listened before, however I thought why not? I was introduced to Dr. Ellie Hogenson. I was a deer in the headlights. I didnt know what to do. Dr. Hogenson, talked to me, listened hard, and just like that we decided to figure out what was going on with me. There was no hesitation, no judgement, or me feeling like I was losing my mind. I had a Doctor who wanted to be proactive and I was scared to find out. However, I knew I would get answers, and I did. I was able to have a voice and advocate for myself to a person who listened and was transparent. I was able to find a solution with Dr. Hogenson, and now after my second surgery my story is closed. Thank you Hogenson, for being my hero. For being there, to understanding my needs and what was best for my body. It has been an emotional ride and I am glad Dr. Hogenson and her team was there. The office staff (Sarah) is amazing and I appreciate all the support I have had in this experience. I recommend not only Dr. Hogenson for your lady health needs, but also her staff at Chena Health OBGYN. Thank you, Hanna
Dr. Hogenson Is the worst OBgYN in town . I didn’t see her once when I was in Labor with my son . The nurses pretty much Delivered him . I would not Recommend her to Deliver anyone’s baby. I can’t believe someone like that can be a doctor, very hands off . Very Disappointed in Chena health by far the worst place to go for Pregnancy care !
Best/fastest doctors experience I’ve ever had!Such wonderful staff.I’m from Massachusetts and out here for work when I needed to go to the doc. They squeezed me in the morning I called and had me in and out of the office in under 45 minutes!!Everyone was pleasant, knowledgable, and helpful. Also, they have a pharmacy right downstairs. Super convenient.
***Medical gaslighting is not ok*** Saw NP Collins told her my twin has pcos. She said no I don’t have it. I told her i should get tested. No didn’t test me and always late to appointments. Suggested I lose weight or go on weight loss pills. Then got switched to dr lessner. No I don’t have pcos no test preformed just fat should lose weight. Wrote in my chart sensitive about weight but didn’t write dr refused to do any further testing. Went to another clinic got on pcos meds.
I had an appointment this morning; the nurse put me in an exam room but didnt tell the doctor I was there. Apparently the doctor didnt bother asking, so I sat there for 45 minutes before going out to find out what was going on. Editing to add, in response to the non-apology: I did not feel forgotten, I WAS forgotten. No one bothered to tell the doctor I was there, and she didnt bother to ask. Nor was it busy.
Very good experience! Everyone is polite and welcoming. I have never experienced a long wait time and will continue to come her for all my OBGYN needs.
Sadly, I did not have a good experience at Chena OB. As an older women, I began a year of repeated UTIs every month. The clinic required I see them before and after every UTI, even though I was on Azo and any test prior was inconclusive . I even went to a Urologist at their request who found nothing wrong. Very costly every month. After begging them to help on a Friday without a visit...they chose to blow me off, leaving me with a raging UTI on a Friday. I called a company called teledoc, offered through my insurance and explained the situation. After a $40.00 fee, the doctor on the phone concluded I had an untreated yeast infection possibly causing the UTIs I had been experiencing and over the phone, got the UTI meds and over the counter I got the yeast infection meds. I have not had a UTI since last year. When asking my doctor why they blew me off, I was told they insist to see me to note my symptoms. Very expensive notes and lack of caring..I will not be back.
Courtney Amundson was my midwife and she was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. She made everything feel so easy and stress free.A complete blessing ❤️
Two babies! Both came out completely natural and wonderful! Love Dr. Schumacher, her staff at Chena OBYN and the FMH staff!
Very accommodating and professional. Went to see OBGYN Dr.Holmes, she was great, very knowledgeable.
Dale is absolutely amazing!!! Would recommend him to anyone and everyone looking for quality prenatal care
Great place for prenatal care or any GYN surgery. Their staff is friendly and helpful.
Pretty unprofessional staff, poor communication and entirely too much lag in their responses to missed phone calls etc. Would not recommend for family or individual care.
I couldnt ask for a better clinic. They really go above and beyond for their patients. :)
Chena Health does not bill out of state.
Thank you so much doctor
They are the best in Fairbanks!
