My experience with this office was unpleasant to say the least. I went in with some gynecological concerns and to get some blood work done. Jann Shiels is very old fashioned and very direct. When I got my blood work back showing I had out of balance thyroid numbers (as I expected with a history of it), not only did Jann not discuss all of my medication options, she actually tried arguing with me against using a more natural option that a naturopath friend recommended for me. This exchange was very uncomfortable and awkward to say the least, as I had to really advocate for my lifestyle and choices. She finally was willing to prescribe me my choice, and two months later, I did independent blood work and my numbers have already improved. However, all the tests that were done with my gynecological concerns came back negative. Jann was unwilling, practically pushing me out the door when I tried to receive some feed back on why if all these tests were negative, was I still experiencing symptoms. She refused to discuss this with me, even after paying her for the third visit to her office that week. Finally, 2 months later, I just received a $500 bill in the mail for said tests, even though this was never discussed with me even after I have explicitly told Jann and her staff that I was uninsured and financially tight. I figured paying for the (3) visits and the blood work would have covered this since no other amount was discussed, and yet I just got surprised with it. To top it all off, I called the office to get more information about this surprise bill, left a message with a sub receptionist, and its been days with no call back, which I dont even expect at this point.Steer clear from this business. I feel they dont really care about their patients or their patients requests, and looking to conveyer belt any woman who comes into their office.
Safe to say this clinic is not for me. Last time I spoke to Jann Shiels she was very pushy and rude.
Jann Sheils is the worst doctor I’ve ever been to. She not only misdiagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome after one test, but when I asked her what that was and what it meant for me, she literally told me to look it up on WebMd. She refused to explain a condition she diagnosed! This was also at the height of Covid and she wasn’t wearing a mask (no one in the office was) and she said she was relieved I wasn’t wearing mine because her husband thought the whole thing was exaggerated nonsense. I only had my mask off because I was alone in the room and fully intended to put it back on when she came in. I really can’t believe she told me to look up my condition online. This is the one thing reputable doctors are always cautioning people against. She doesn’t care about patients. Don’t go here. She gives female GYNOs a bad name.
I do believe Dr. Shiels is well meaning. On my initial consultation she listened and was direct about issues and options. She also was obviously experienced, and brisk but kind. Where things went south was when I had a colposcopy. She and her assistant were unprepared. She didnt have all the instruments ready, and they were cold once found and used. I was lying there uncomfortable while they both floundered about. It was unprofessional and I felt disrespected although she kept apologizing during the procedure. I was willing to shrug that off, but then things went further south. I was very upfront with her assistant that as I was leaving the country (to go to southeast Asia for 3 months), the only foolproof way for me to receive bills was by email. From past experience, I knew I would have difficulty logging into the online patient portal on overseas ISPs. But this request was ignored. I was harassed by automated emails and text messages about payment. I had to ask my mother to call during office hours (I was in an opposite time zone) and even after that, not all bills were sent. I paid what was finally emailed me, but a month later the harassing texts and emails started again. At that point I had the assistants email, so I emailed asking for any outstanding invoices. Crickets. I came back into the country two days ago to four messages in the patient portal (which I could FINALLY log into!) about an overdue payment. That was the final straw for me. I am now looking for a doctor with an efficient and responsive office staff.
Dr. Shiels is a wonderful doctor! Finding a doctor that you like and that truly cares about you can be hard sometimes, but Dr. Shiels is that kind of doctor. She is understanding, thorough, caring and very knowledgeable. She is also very good at responding to outside questions or concerns in a timely manner. I highly recommend her!The only unfortunate thing to me about her practice is that the weekly hours are a bit limited, however once you are a patient there, it is easy to book appointments and get in to see her!
I really loved the office and Dr. Shiels. She is so nice and really cares about her patients! She suggested what was best for me and I’m glad she is my gynecologist, she really cares about my needs and what’s best for me. She also gives really good information and advice.
It’s pretty hard to sum up in a paragraph just how amazing Dr, Shiels is, but I will certainly try in the hopes someone sees this and decides to go under her care. She is kind, genuine, thorough, and thoughtful. If she had all the time in the world, I know she’d sit there and answer every question you have— truly she does during every appointment, but sometimes we leave thinking of other things. She has such a wonderful presence that calms you on the spot. She’s funny and I love that she brings humor into her time with you. But she’s also considerate and just so, so attentive.I can’t imagine seeing anyone else for ANYTHING regarding women’s health. She is a needle in a hay stack and I urge anyone looking for a new gyno to consider her. One appointment and she has you swooned!
Dr. Shiels is great but the office staff is awful. I had to give them my insurance information twice. Apparently they didn’t know how to bill it so instead of getting in touch with me they sent a collection agency after me. I contacted the office and gave them my insurance information once again. I thought it was resolved but I just received another notice from the collection agency. I too work in healthcare and I work hard so my patients don’t have to do my job for me. In the meantime I’ll be expecting a paycheck from this place as I’ve clearly worked harder than anyone there as far as contacting my insurance goes. Didn’t realize my annual OB exam would lower my credit score. I’ll just die from cervical cancer instead lol
Dr. Sheils is the best doctor I have seen so far. She clearly cares a lot for her patients and takes time to listen. She also will answer the office phone and is quick to respond via the patient portal. I would recommend her to anyone in hunt of a doctor who actually cares.
She is an educated doctor who seems down to earth. She has an extensive knowledge of the different types of birth control available and the pros and cons of each. She cannot remove Nexplanon implants so plan accordingly. She can implant IUDs though.
I love doctor Shiels and trust her but her office staff is absolutely horrible and have done so many horrible things to me that I can no longer go back. Dr Shiels does not care unfortunately.
DO NOT GO HERE! DO NOT TRUST HER! She botched my surgery and treated me like a pill popping addict when she left a golf ball size cyst on my ovary after my laparoscopy surgery and told her nurse I was just faking the pain and 1 day later I was in the ER for a ruptured cyst with fluid in my abdomen.
Dr. Shiels and her staff made me feel so comfortable during my visit. She listened to all of my concerns and answered all my questions.
Her office and her staff are professional and pleasant. It is a delightfully chaos free environment. She gave me good advice and I couldnt be happier with her care.
She is a awesome Dr and her staff Are wonderful so happy to find someone who listens THANK YOU
Great doctor and staff
