I tried to donate a complete living room set. They came out and refused to take the set because of three belimisheson the sofa. I thought that Id you are donating out of the kindness of your heart that you would accept it. I have attached pictures of the set and the blemishes they discredited my set for donating. I wouldnt donate anything to this place, not even my spit.
I enjoy shopping at Out of the Closet because it has few quality products at discounted prices. I also bring stuff to donate. Its for a good cause.
Staff was friendly & the store was clean. It was decently organized and parking was pretty accommodating. Fair prices and a nice variety would definitely come back! They do require masks as of this review they also offer free condoms. I cant think of anything bad to say about them other than theres no bathroom but thats negligible with all the good they do.
Real cute. A lot of variety. Nice staff. And your supporting a great cause.2 hoodies, 1 leather jacket, 1 sweater, sweats, a cute forever 21 top WITH TAGS, a bra WITH TAGS and a CD for 35$
Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Store very clean. Prices are very reasonable. Dressing rooms large enough to actually try stuff on. The had some beautiful antique furniture, dish and glassware sets.
High-End thrift store with very reasonable prices considering the high quality of the garments on the shelves. Very clean store, everything sorted by size , so it was easy to navigate. I found a pair of jeans that fit so incredibly, I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, I stood at the front with the things I wanted to purchase for several minutes , no one was behind the register. I looked around but couldnt find an employee. Eventually I left without being able to purchase anything 😞
Very clean. Organized by garment type and size.A fair amount of purses. Some furniture. Some home items.Mostly private changing room behind a curtain. They sell a bit of everything.Small parking lot. They offer free HIV testing.
I like this small thrift shop on Westheimer @ Mulberry. They have a nice selection of mens & womens clothing, jewelry, furniture, curios, books, CDs, DVDs, etc.Merchandise presentation is excellent. The clothing is displayed by size. I wish other thrift stores sorted by size.Proceeds from sales go to benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
The items (clothing, glassware, etc.) are pretty cheap, and 96% of the proceeds go to HIV/AIDS services which is remarkable. The building has a drip paint wall that is pretty instagrammable! Inside, the store was pretty clean and easy to navigate. My wishes are that they had a bigger selection of clothes and if they sorted their clothing by size. Some stores have so much clothes that sorting on size may seem impossible but I think they have a small enough selection to sort clothes on size.
VERY CLEAN AND ORGANIZED. VERY OVER PRICED BUT MAYBE IT IS FOR THE AREA. A USED GLASS $3 COME ON PEOPLE. They do have a $1 clothes rack though.
I love out of the closet! However who ever the female was answering the phone for the donation center on 3/16 needs to be retrained in customer service. She was completely rude and had a attitude for no reason.

Awesome store, fantastic staff, and the work they do for the community is a cut above. Definitely come spend some money here!
First time here and it was absolutely amazing!!! Clean and well organized, plus friendly staff! Definitely coming again!
So I Went in to find out about donating some furniture.Highly impressed with the store And the prices were unbelievably good for what I expected at this particular thrift store. From now on all of my donations will go there as all of the money taken in goes to a good cause for the gay And those they need in our community. Please check them out as they are going to pick up my My furniture that Im giving away where is the place I usually go to will not pick up I have to have it brought there. Highly recommend ivy recommend!
I got a really cute purse and dress that was originally priced for $3 and $10 but ended up paying $8 for both!! Can’t beat prices like that! I will definitely be back!Edit: went back a couple of days later for some costume jewelry and a Christmas gift for $11! I love this store!!Update:I returned to Out of the Closet a few weeks ago and was shocked to find their clothing prices increased. I paid $15 for a dress and saw clothes with original price tags that were lower than the price Out of the Closet parked them as. This is very disappointing as I believe thrift stores are so important for people with limited income. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
Loved the name and what they are doing for LGBTQ community & AIDS charities ❤️ Store had some very cute stuff. It’s not HUGE so there’s only so much - (but that can be nice in that it’s not smack-you-on-the-head overwhelming) but it’s pleasantly well-organized by size and category (and the mural outside is fab!!) Items were in good condition (I didn’t see any rips or stains) and there were plenty of nice labels/stores represented. My only disappointment was reading before we went a bunch of reviews talking about what *amazing deals* they had. 😳 Yes, the selection could be nice (not everything, but a sizable amount) but I found it definitely pricey for a resale/thrift shop (e.g. $3 for dvds, $3 for hardcover books, $2 for a paperback, $10-12 for slacks, $7-8 for tshirts, etc.) Certainly a great cause worth supporting - but don’t go just for the “fantastic” bargains. (My teenager did find some slacks despite me being a bit horrified at the $10 price tag 😵💫😅)
I had just got off work and was able to pull in just before close. I never want to be that guy but I just moved into a new spot in the neighborhood and really need to shop some furniture. The ladies gave me a warm welcome and said not to rush. I was able to find an awesome trunk to use as a coffee table for the time being and a much needed wine rack.Thank you ladies!
I enjoy shopping here! Clean, good selection, great for college students looking to shop on a budget. We purchased so many dresses for my mother in law. Pay attention to the color tags, discounts and savings are always changing and they are great! I’d recommend being open a little later (even just one hour more would help). Love that it helps the community too!
My goyl raved on and on about out of the closet. Must say give thumbs up even though i am not the biggest fan of the name lol but they help the community and have free HIV tests. Not sure about the times and days for test, i love a good second hand store they had a lot of the threads i wanted some how cost like 12 dollars for a computer bag 3 pair of adiddas and mans swim suit some items only cost 1 doll hair mind you. Even went back and got big fuzzy slipppers that someone didnt like. Brand new minus the box excellent people great spot👍👍👍👍👍👍
I enjoy thrifting and putting together outfits from different time periods. Had car smashed in and my bag stolen. The security cameras are only accessible from the store... in CALIFORNIA! They have yet to get the footage for our police report. Theres a second camera owned by the building next door. Thats been offline for YEARS. Yea no wonder why cars are constantly getting smashed in here. They know its an easy spot to steal from.Attached is the proof of robbery. Oh yea and both cameras were pointing at the exact spot the cars were parked. 🤷♂️
Wow whats not to say about a business that dedicates their sales to benefit people with HIV and other related illnesses. Theyre great with guests and have a selection of all styles for people with different tastes for fashion of every era. They al as o provide free testing with results within minutes. I took the test while there and in only a few minutes I was given my results. Thanks to God I have my health and thanks to Out of the Closet I have my own closet to shop at a and st a very reasonable price that goes to a great cause. Stop in and feel the warmth of friendly staff and without the worry of breaking the bank. Enjoy the ambiance and the fashionable styles.
Don’t nobody open they mouth and say 1 word to you
Went here with my boyfriend on Valentines day because I love thrifting (as a broke college student should), and I had been wanting to go here. Was not disappointed. They have a good selection for the modern times (some thrift stores are dated), and it was easy to find things that were cute. Store was organized neatly, and clean. Told a fellow thrifter friend about this place. Will definitely be back, for I had to restrict myself from buying things because Im always on a budget, but tend to overbuy when it comes to clothes that are not expensive! The prices were amazing! I was so happy I found this place. As a side note, purchases go towards a good cost, and the owner/manager/co-workers were nice, even though me and my boyfriend were kind of pushing it on the closing time!
Every time I’ve came in to get tested I’ve had a great experience. All the workers are lovely ESPECIALLY Ms. Ashley Barnes!
The workers here are so nice and helpful, and the selection of movies, clothes, music, and appliances are very good. The best part of this place is that the profits all go to a good cause. Honestly I like this store even better than their sister store in San Fran.
Impressive little thrift store at the corner of Westheimer and Mulberry. Convenient off street parking lot outside the store. Inside the store is a very nice selection of clothing items. Each clothing item was in good condition, and while some pieces could get pricey, in general things were reasonable priced. Similarly, a decent collection of dishes and glassware. Not too many household goods or knickknacks. Some rather nice pieces of artwork that were very well priced. Overall a good thrifting experience, and nice addition to the already healthy thrift scene in the Montrose area.
Wish I could give ZERO stars. I set up pick up for a small sofa in advance. The call center personnel never stated while scheduling that items are taken at the crews discretion. When the day of pick up came the 1st crew member came up and attempted to remove couch and reviewing its condition with no problem. When he realized he needed assistance he called the 2nd person who gave very little effort and appearing annoyed to assist. After about 2min the 1st crewman stated his manger (who was standing right next us) says we cant take the couch.Reason provided was invalid and a flat out lie. The crew seemed lazy and due to it being a free pick had no incentive to remove the item knowing they would not be held accountable. There was no resolution for the inconvenience. Called the store to speak with a manager who was off that day and the person standing in was utterly unhelpful stating she would pass on the message and have the manager call back You can probably guess I never received a call back. 5 out of 5 would NOT recommend.
I am extatic to review this beautiful shop filled with beautiful ppl.!!!! omg ! the clothes are amazing, staff is even better and prices you can not beat!!! (especially for the combined experiences of getting a deal but treated like royalty) QUEENS ALIKE NEED TO GRAB THIER BEST FRIEND AND GO!!!
Great find for an 80s or 90s party, or just good old fashioned thrifting. Friendly staff, clean store, and a portion of the proceeds go to AIDS healthcare. Prices were in line with quality of items. ($15 for a pair of gently used sneakers. $33 for a whole outfit including sneakers, shirt, jeans, and cap)
It was nice with everything organized in the store. Good selection of clothing and house hold items. Plus they have a big DvD section if you like movies.
Better then most and great prices 👏
My favorite thrift store in the area! They have a wide selection of items, and the prices are extremely low. Its also nice to know that my money is going to a good cause. I have been multiple times, and everytime I felt like I was getting away with something when I checked out because the total didnt seem to be nearly enough.Ann taylor skirt with tags still on for $7 (originally $80)And many other beautiful items for a low cost
Came to try on two pieces of clothing at 6:30, got in the changing room, and they came and told me they were closed and i couldn’t buy anything at 6:40. Posted closing is at 7, i wouldn’t have cut it close. Super rude, I wanted to buy what I had.
Fantastic merchandise, great prices and discounts, friendly employees and a generally fabulous vibe. Clean, organized and uncluttered. Probably my best thrifting experience in Houston thus far! I will be back again and again!
Love Out of the Closet and their mission! Happy to donate too.
I really enjoyed this place because you can find great items here. The only problem is that ever since they changed up a bit, OOTC now have lesser men section and more women clothing 😒🤦♂️ And please consider re-opening the dressing rooms back up. Parking is tight but you can park on the side street or adjacent to the dive bar
Joined my mom on a shopping trip. Paid for my purchase with a debit card; we left the store. Two days later they posted a $31 charge to my account.I called the store; left message. Also emailed them. Since they choose not to respond, for just the 1st time in my life Im taking to this site to post a NEGATIVE review.True, this business deserves credit for its philanthropy---but that does not give them the right to try to rob those they think are gullible. A word to the wise: one gets into far less trouble by overestimating another person.
SO cute and amazing people working! So glad I stopped by on my way through Houston. How could you not?! Great store and profits go to a great foundation.
Easy donation experience. We coordinated over the phone with helpful staff. Social distancing and organization at the donation drop off point. The store has an important mission and takes plenty of different kinds of items.
Its a good thrift store. Prices change on Sundays. If you find a deal here its really good other than that a little bit to high. I enjoy coming on Sundays to check and see if anything is good.
Amazing place to shop and find for all people and a hiv testing center.
So awesome. Great selection, well organized, friendly staff, LGBT enthusiastic!, profits go to AIDS/HIV funds!! All around winner, Ill be back :)They have a little bit of everything for everyone
Great prices on ,often times, barely worn clothing. Absolutely a must have stop on my thrifting days
It’s a great, clean place. good furniture. not a huge clothes selection, but a few gems. nice staff
Wonderful thrift shop/resale shop in Montrose. Off-street parking. Clean, generally not crowded. Prices seem much more reasonable than BlueBird Resale, Catholic Charities Shop, or The Guild Shop on Dunlavy. Highly recommend!
Staff Very Professional & Courteous !Nice Clothes & Shoes 👞 Etc. Great Prices AlsoBeautiful Window Display AlwaysYou Want Be Disappointed !
I adore everything about this thrift shop. Great finds + excellent prices = Out of the Closet
This store has everything for a man or woman. Plenty of Goodies for any occasion. Very reasonable prices. Yall dont miss out ... very friendly staff also.
My wife & I were visiting Houston and stumbled upon this boutique when we were taking a photo of the mural out front. I loved the reduce reuse and recycle vibes.
Love this place it’s my go to thrift store followed by I’ve made multiple donations here!! Glad to know they are one Houston’s top thrift stores they deserve it!!
Good cause, good store. No bathroom… I had to pee so bad😭
Didnt want to take off the dress I tried on in their fitting room and ended up purchasing it on me! Great finds
Very nice place!!it is a different concept of the common thrift stores. I really love the organization that is very original and great customer service.
Very nice! Limited parking tho. Great customer service. You need an ID if youre paying with credit or debit.
My First time coming here was amazing because I was Lucky to find an Owl City Music CD and I would definitely come back here again.
Ole school Thrift near Montrose..great stuff, clothes, others and better prices! Price is better than right and at times they make you take thing Home after their Specials!
Great resale shop where everything is priced well. You can find some great deals whether you are looking for clothes, vinyl, media, or furniture.
With Covid I have been sorting out closets. These guys were great and so easy to drop off my stuff as a contribution.
I had a wonderful time shopping here! I purchased a few clothing items and will be coming back for more!
Amazing service! friendly and welcoming atmosphere! Cute and new things everyday! Love this place!
I didnt find anything I personally wanted but I really loved the store and the vibe of it!
Organized and clean but we did not find anything at this location. Still good!
Save yourselves the time and effort of calling these clowns for donating stuff. They are lazy and will not pickup even the best of items if they are heavy.
Very friendly and helpful staff and prices are very reasonable. Great place for a weekend hunt
Best spot for affordable thrift clothes that are also good quality. Love them.
This is a great shop to spend time browsing in ... and they have an awesome book collection!
I 100% recommend this thrift shop! they have great selections for low prices, and they have a great cause as well.
Great prices: amazing workers : so helpful truly happy to have shopped there!!
Always a good selection of clothes and household items. Good prices.
There arent as many clothing options as other thrift shops, but I love the intention behind their work.
Do you guys help hiv homeless with clothes? If so how do I get help
Space is a little small but the quality of the clothes and the prices are great.
Can’t imagine why one would shop here. Especially how they treat their customers and react to the negative reviews. This is a joke and full of unprofessionalism.
Janice who accepts donations is amazing! :)
This place has a nice balance of items. Friendly staff.
I am starting to think they bought their 5 star reviews online...

🌹Off the Chain Fashion
Bad service
Love this place!
I liked the variety of products and good prices
The clerks are very friendly, but the prices are not competitive. Maybe its because of the area
