I have been dealing with Fibroids since the year of 2018. I had the Myomectomy procedure back in 2019 and had Acessa done in 2021 by a different doctor. I was considering a hysterectomy when I found out about Dr. Bruce Lee, the inventor of the Acessa procedure. I thought that since he invented the procedure, he would be more than likely to get it right this time for me. I called his office and scheduled an appointment for June 6th, the bad news was that he was out of network of my insurance so I would have to pay out of pocket unfortunately, at this point I am desperate Ill just have to gather up the money. I wanted to move forward, so when I got to his office, he chatted with me and he sounded very convincing. He did an ultrasound on me that very same day when I thought I was only going in for a consultation (not that was an issue). The doctor explained to me that I had scar tissue which is expected due to the Myomectomy, and then said he needs a better reading and that he needs me to get an MRI he gave me a referral (not cheap as I had to spend $568). So, when I gathered the money, I got the MRI done June 18th, so that same day I had the MRI done at the facility I was given a CD of my images, I got home and sent them right off to Dr. Lees office. I contacted Dr. Lees office that next day to confirm receipt and the office staff stated YES and they will schedule me to come back into the office to go over my results with the doctor - approx. 2 weeks go by and not a word from them. I kept calling until mid-July, I said whats going on. The doctor requested I go get an MRI and I hear nothing back from him or his staff, she then stated he needed the MRI report, well I said no one called me stating this - I immediately got on this request. The reports were sent 3 days later in the month of July. We are now in Sept and till this day I have not heard from ANYONE from this office. I believe they all talk a good game. He had me first waste my money. The cost for a consultation was not cheap, and spending money for the MRI. I could have seen a doctor in network and for sure it would have been less spending for me. I will never deal with this office AGAIN. What a total waste of time, gas, money and MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT.And if Dr. Lee or staff reads this, please do not contact me as I have moved on and seeking help from another doctor. I have been more than patient. Its been almost 3 months and still not a word from your office. Everything happens for a reason.By the way, I gave one star because he was nice but anything beyond that not good.
I wanted to share our experience to highlight some problems many women may have and may be going through. My wife has had many fibroids and approximately 8 years ago, we found Dr. Lee and the Acessa procedure. Due to her fibroids (or at least we were told it was the fibroids), she would have to frequently catherize and of course, was highly anemic. After consultation with Dr Lee, we were convinced that the fibroid ablation / Acessa procedure would solve her problem. For a few years, it did help with not having to catherize however the frequency and amount of bleeding never changed. Eight years go by and she started having to catheterize all over again. We revisited Dr Lee, now at the Newport location, and he assured us that a second treatment would help. Of course, the cost was now double what it was 8 years ago and was over $20,000 out of pocket since insurance doesnt cover the procedure. We sought two other opinions with two other gynecologists and both warned us against the Acessa procedure. The third gynecologist (whom we gained s lot of trust in), explained to us that this procedure does not work, and the cost of the Acessa procedure would all be wasted because the treatment that my wife needed, was a total hysterectomy. He took a lot of time to explain it carefully and we finally understood why she needed the hysterectomy. This was the surgery we were trying to avoid for the last 10 years. In the end, we agreed that a total hysterectomy was the only option. My wife had the DaVinci laparoscopic total hysterectomy this morning and we feel that this was the solution to her problems. I think if you have small fibroids, Dr. Lee may be the doctor for you however I think its important to get multiple opinions because what sometimes seems too good to be true, really is. We found Dr. Lee to be caring and compassionate and this review is NOT against him. The reason I write this review is I dont think the Acessa procedure will solve all fibroid issues. It may be useful for isolated cases but if you have a problem with catheterization, bladder issues, enlarged uterus size, seek a second opinion or a third before committing to any procedure. Be weary since there is a financial motive behind doing any non-insurance-based surgical procedure. Just do your homework and remember, we all want to avoid surgeries but sometimes if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.Aug. 2024 (7 month update)Im adding to the original review to update you the reader, on my wifes situation. Every single problem she had prior to the total hysterectomy has disappeared and everything has resolved unbelievably well. Shes living her best life and hasnt looked back once since. The procedure was the best thing she could have done.
Doctor Lee in an incredible doctor in every sense of the word. He is incredibly compassionate and his bedside manner is impeccable. He is THE MAN when it comes to treating fibroids. The words were uttered to me way before I met Doctor Lee by a nurse who had worked with him years ago. She was right! He is extremely honest in what he can and cant do for you and that I appreciated! He lays everything on the line and his expertise is beyond stellar. Doctor Lee goes beyond to help his patients. I had a 5 hours surgery in Feb 2024 and he was able to ablate 32 fibroids! I was a difficult case but the moment I left surgery I could see the shrinkage in my fibroids. It has been two months since my surgery and my symptoms of discomfort and heavy bleeding are diminishing as well as my waistline. I have so much gratitude for the care I received with Doctor Lee. I am simply blown away with my experience from beginning to end. DO NOT hesitate if you have fibroids to meet Doctor Lee, there is NOBODY above him, he is THE MAN! :-)
I paid for my surgery out of pocket. My insurance retroactively paid dr lee $2900, now theyre refusing to give me a refund. Be careful who you give your money to. And its sad that the billing department and office cannot be trusted.
I am not someone who writes negative reviews but in this case I feel like I have to warn people about Dr Lee and Acessa. I am beyond disappointed to find out after paying $$$$$ out of pocket doing the Acessa procedure, only 6 months after surgery I found out I still had all my fibroids in my uterus and until this day ( a year later) the fibroids ( treated or not) are causing pain and excessive bleeding , I still have anemia due to this problem and basically can’t live a normal life. Dr Lee now believes that my problems are not due to my fibroids and he blames it on anything he can think of other than taking responsibility that Acessa doesn’t work and it’s only invented to take advantage of desperate people who are trying to save their uterus, it’s truly sad! PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR who actually cares about you. Unfortunately I now have to pay even more to get multiple other procedures done to treat myself and additionally deal with seeking legal actions against Dr Bruce Lee
5 Stars from my first consultation, with the most caring doctor, through a professional and painless procedure at the surgery center, to post-op follow-up!I had a uterus filled with large fibroids, the largest being the size of a small cantaloupe, which affected my every day life adversely in many ways. Previous options given were a hysterectomy or removal via c-section, with a long recovery time. I live across country, but Dr. Lee and his team had everything handled from paperwork to the procedure, within a month. I was so impressed! It is now almost 3 weeks later and many symptoms are gone, and happily, my abdomen is already much smaller. Excited for further results as time goes by.Dr. Bruce Lee is incredibly caring and kind and takes his time with you, so that you feel very comfortable throughout the whole experience! I can’t say enough good about Dr. Lee and his team!Thank you Dr. Lee for giving alternative options for fibroids!!Monica A.Pittsburgh, PA
I have dealt with uterine fibroids for close to 20 years. Prior to seeing Dr. Lee I had 2 surgeries. The first surgery helped for a few years, but then the heavy menstrual cycles and pain came back. The second surgery didn’t help much at all, and I was told I needed a hysterectomy. That’s when I started researching, and found Dr. Lee. I wanted to avoid having a hysterectomy if possible.Dr Lee’s office was great with communication, and worked fast to get me in ASAP. The office staff was amazing and very friendly. I had a phone consult with Dr. Lee, as I live out of town. He was so kind and caring, and I could tell he wanted to help and was super knowledgeable about fibroids, so I set up to have my surgery on June 2nd 2021.Fast forward to 10 months later, and I’m feeling great! Dr. Lee ended up treating 42 fibroids, and at my second post op appointment, everything is looking wonderful and I’m feeling like myself again! I am so thankful that I found Dr. Lee! He is truly passionate about what he does, and helping women feel better. Best decision ever!
I had Acessa with this doctor nearly two years ago. My biggest fibroid at the time was 14 cm, and I had previously been advised Acessa might not be a good option for me due to the size of my tumor by my local gynecologist. However, I wanted to see if it was still at all a possibility so I contacted Dr. Lee who had me get an MRI. After reviewing the MRI he stated I was still a candidate for the Acessa procedure so I flew to get the surgery. About 6-7 months after I had a follow up ultrasound done & mailed to him. I mentioned that the radiologist had said the tumor was still huge, but he said it was reducing in volume & that radiologists read the ultrasound differently...Fast forward 6 months into Jan. 2022 & I was back with pelvic pain & had began violently throwing up during my period. He requested an MRI again, and it showed that not only had my fibroids not reduced at all, they actually grew! The largest is around 21cm now, so needless to say Acessa was a complete failure for me. Dr. Lee stated my case was rare, but I am not too sure if I believe that as a couple of women who also had Acessa with him have since contacted me stating very similar stories... My takeaway from this is that if your fibroid is too big Acessa might not be a good option. Also, I recently read that the the biggest a fibroid can be for Acessa to work, according to the FDA, is 7-10 cm max. Mine was 14 cm back then, which should have disqualified me from the procedure. I really wish doctors would be more honest, and leave their ego out of this because now I am facing a much tougher surgery. Also, Acessa is extremely expensive for it to not work, and it is oftentimes not covered by all insurances.
An amazing doctor and a compassionate human being. Thank you Dr. Lee!
Great procedure and perfect advanced technology.
