Do not miss this spot! What a wonderful thrifting shop - everything is very well picked. All the clothes were new, great qualifying, and clean! The prices were amazing (coming from someone who lives in NYC) the most expensive price I saw was $14. The major downfall is that they don’t have dressing rooms - so I couldn’t select any jeans. The folks that work there are also really kind. And they have a rewards program for every $1 spent. I walked out of there with over 15 pieces of clothes for $60.They’ve also got books and some small home decorations.
The place smelled so bad I almost walked right out. However I approached the counter to look at 2 handbags. And a staff member left out of the back office. Walked passed me from behind the counter and Didn’t even acknowledge me standing there.I waited a few moments and left.Don’t shop at this dump. Idc who it may help.
Mostly clothing but a variety of other treasures....a little bit of everything. I noticed a lot of local Oakland stuff. Organized, clean, and fairly priced thrift store. (Ex: jeans were about $10, jackets $12-$18, good condition and quality items...frames and wall art were really reasonably priced). I picked up a framed print for $5 by a local Oakland artist. The employees were pleasant and helpful. Also, the rainbow book wall was mesmerizing.
I love this place!! I just found a vintage porcelain jar of the same brand that my husbands parents drink in Sweden. You will NEVER find anything that cool brand new. You never know what kind of story you will stumble on when you go to this place. Plus the staff are SO SOO nice, just lovely humans. Great prices on all used goods. Support re-use. Donate and shop here.
Not what I was expecting! I figured it was going to be just another high priced thrift store in the city. But, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the prices were AMAZING, and the clothing was in AMAZING condition. Clean and well organized. I found a pair of Levi shorts (maybe worn twice) and my boyfriend and I each found a pair of pants for 30$! Love every piece we found! Will definitely be going back. Shout out to the girl working, Ellen, she was so helpful and just super cool. They even offer an excellent rewards program. Thank you Out of the Closet, for everything that you do for our community.!!
I work in HIV and I am pleased about this agency/retailer meeting and giving back to the community in a practical tangible way. The color-coordination and organization is extremely pleasing to the eye, making it much more easy to shop. Items are great quality, it’s clean, and spacious. My kids like thrifting so this is a great choice.
My first time here from out of state, thought I’d see what the thrift scene is like out hereI found 2 jackets and when I went to pay the cashier looked at me with a nasty attitude and then looked at the tags on the jackets and claimed they had the wrong tags on them and the price for them wasn’t correct so she made up some prices on the spot and wasn’t trying to hear me out that I found them that way. I ended up leaving with just one jacket priced $20 higher than what the tag said because it was chilly out but I couldn’t help but feel taken advantage ofThis was my first time in and never even heard of this store till this visitNot sure if I’ll return to this location again in the futureIt’s not my fault your employees couldn’t tag an item properly and I shouldn’t have to pay for their mistakesAbove all they had a semi-decent selection of clothes, prices were whatever some higher than what you’d find for the same item online but I guess that’s how they do things out here
Okay selection of items. Very picky about donations
I bought some shorts here and couldnt try them on in the store (no dressing rooms). Ok since I still had the tag on. I asked to do an exchange or refund and was told no. They said I need to try them on over my clothes. For running/gym shorts?! Theres no way to try them on over my clothes. I guess Ill just dispute it with my credit card and stop coming here.
A fun and friendly place to shop for unique treasures as well as affordable clothing and home goods. Employees are very nice, there’s always good music playing, and the stock turns over relatively quickly. The shop also has its own convenient, free parking lot.On top of all this, the proceeds go to a good cause and this location regularly offers free HIV testing to the community.
One of the best thrift stores in the whole East Bay, absolutely. Love this place. Great selection. Got amazing chairs here, shoes, clothes, jewelry, purse, etc. Good selection of books too. Never too crowded on a weekday.
I was not impressed at all. Little selection of clothes compared to other thrift stores and if your looking for home goods forget about it, basically nothing at all. They wanted 35$ for a purse that couldnt have costed more than 30$ at Ross brand new.I came there with hopes of it being a great store. I love the fact that they are a non profit and giving back to the community. Wheres places such as savers does nothing at all... This place is definitely in need of the communitys donations. So next time your going to donate dont forget about out of the closet.
Ive been coming to this store since Magic Johnson opened it. Even though management is changed quite often severely people are still really nice and they have so much to do even when theyre understaffed but they keep going and its clean there isnt stuff all over the floor and Im glad that they are micromanaging to a degree what people bring in because a lot of people just have nice things in the bag and then junk at the bottom in their stuff with it and its not fair so Im glad that now when you drop off something you have to stand there and theyll tell you what they take and what they dont take and Im proud of that change. And due to Covid there are no dressing rooms anymore..
As soon as I entered the building they were so rude and unwelcoming..you would think they would show more kindness but no.i had asked one of the women working there where the prices where for the items on the wall, no some items said not for sale so I clearly could see that.. then the women responded to me without stopping for even 5 secondsWell, the items that say not for sale arenot for sale . And kept going. She didnt even give me the chance to say what about the ones without the tags, which I was obviously asking about. Also nothing with going in for..they didnt have anything good.
Always a bunch of good treasures. Im always amazed at what great stuff I can find.
One of my favorite places to shop when I come to San Francisco. If you dont mind spending a little bit of time looking through all their stuff, you can find some really good items. From fun clothing pieces and accessories, to good quality workout wear. Spend some time in there and you will save a lot of money!!
Decent selection, but they don’t have a fitting room, everything is final sale… and the prices are too high to justify buying without trying 🤷♀️ big ‘ol bummer
Well this was my experience today. I checked the company website to see if they would be open and it said it was so I checked Google Maps and Yelp and they all confirmed it was open. Since I live about a mile away I figure I would have a brisk little stroll to the store. It was a a bit cold and windy still because of the rain fall, but I figured I would get a nice respite once I get there and shop around.I arrived at 10:20 am, 20 minutes after all 3 places said it would be open. Both doors are locked and there are no lights on inside. I figure I can walk around a little since theres Luckys nearby and see if theyll open up. I come back at 10:40 am and still locked up. I try to call and theres no answer. I recheck all sites and still says theyre open.So I decide to walk home in the now cold morning. I start to type up an Email to the company, which I got off the site, asking for clarification. Why the hours are wrong, why no one picked up, essentially why theyre not doing business today when everything said they were. My fingers are starting to hurt from the wind, my nose is starting to run, but I finally get the Email sent and put my hands in my pocket. When I finally get home my inbox refreshes and low and behold I get a delivery notice failure from the company! This is definitely a great start to my day so thanks for that guys.
Plenty of parking right next to their store. Inside the store is bright and clean with clothing and other articles well displayed. The people working here are pleasant and helpful .there are three different teirs if sale items25% 50% and 1$ all discounts are indicated by the color of the price tag on an item. Prices are very reasonable and the quality of clothing and other items is quite nice. This is a worthy cause staffed by caring people. Stop in .its not the largest thrift store nor the smallest They have a nice selection of books resonably priced
I live near here and stop by a couple days a week. They change the discounts on the colored tags on Sundays and they get new deliveries of furniture and appliances on Saturdays and Thursdays. Very well organized except for the huge selection of books which could be separate store unto itself.
Ive been shopping and donating at this store for as long as its been there. Since the store re-opened after our initial lock-down theres a new manager. She is so unfriendly Im doubting whether I want to continue going there. Ive never seen her smile or heard her say hello. Just today, and not for the first time, I heard her tell a lady who wanted to donate that, Were not taking any more donations today. It was nowhere near closing time nor did she even take the time to look at the ladys donations. For a store that depends on donations and whose stock doesnt appear to be refreshed very often lately, this doesnt seem the best option. Its a thrift store raising money for a worthy cause not a boutique in the movie, Pretty Woman.
This location of the out of the closet thriftstore is quite good.manychoices in both mens &womens clothing plus housewares some furniture, small electric stuff, jewelry, accessories, records & tons of great books.the staff here and at most ootcs are quite friendly.they also take some donations at this location, but check the recieving hours as to not waste a trip.also check what they are currently accepting,so your not waisting time lugging in items they dont take.Happy hunting.
Shirt selection isn’t very big. lots of good books. the furniture looked good. it’s clean and organized, and the workers are always nice.
Was thrilled that a majority of our donations e.g. clothes and a sofa were accepted. They were really surpsie to see the sofa we were donating was in really good condition. I can only imagine the condition of other donations for them to have to say it out loud. Some advice for folks, make sure what you donate is still usable.
Friendly staff. I remember needing a pair of slacks for a job interview and ended up finding them here last minute for a pretty cheap price. I also picked up a great guide on Pro Tools here for just 75¢
This store has great merchandise but go to urgent care for testing instead of AHF. they told me that the std I have Iis beyond the scope of their abilities. After I told them all I needed is Flagyl...
This is THE BEST secondhand clothing store Ive ever had the pleasure of going to. They have amazing womens clothes, shoes, purses & accessories!! Every time I visit Oakland I HAVE to go in. Also...the staff is awesome!
We were looking for furniture, and this is not a great spot for that. They had a total of 4 pieces of furniture. A lot of second-hand clothes at good prices, though --- largely feminine clothing.
Theres a large variety of things other than clothes. Decent furniture selection which turns over fast. Tons of books. Much better than Goodwill in terms of pricing as well.
One of my favorite easy bay thrift stores. I scored lots of great shoes, sneakers and boots there in January. Love their eclectic offerings and mission.
Lots of clothes, an okay amount of home goods, books and furniture, but good stuff for what is there. We found some great antique-style frames and a large vintage poster/print.
I found the CUTEST stuff here all for such great prices!!!
Good prices, decent selection for a smaller thrift store. Money goes to a great cause. Staff is usually pretty nice and helpful
Really cool nonprofit that accepts donations (which is tough to find during COVID) and a friendly staff.Highly recommended. They sometimes do STI testing as well.
An extra unique thrift store in the heart of Oakland! Lots of great treasures and great prices! Friendly staff too. Go see what you can find!
One of my favorite thrift stores! Really nice items and inexpensive. Goes to a good cause, too. Highly recommend Out of the Closet:)
OMG, you could literally spend all day here and spend $50! Tons of hidden gems and weird things here. Also, it goes to a good cause! Pretty well kept for a thrift store.
I found a dope Banana Republic jacket for 10 bucks. The employee that checked me out was very chill. Clean place... good finds...good service

The lady with rainbow 🌈 hair Always treats consumers like criminals and so many times decided to leave cause of her bad customer service

So many good deals. Organjce i Love this location the employes are helpful and super friendly
Always pleasant. Sometimes the prices are perfect and other times a bit questionable. Mostly in the furniture department.
Excellent clothing, regular bargains, and much needed community support. Fitting rooms still closed due to the pandemic, unfortunately
M@n!Im an overseer of the store front, so that means I have the best view of the store,,and must say Im very pleased 😎..
No furniture and homewares felt overpriced. Maybe a good place for clothes!
Lovely collection, chill employees, cheap prices, great location, parking is hard to find

Lots of good finds for a surprisingly small place! Prices are fair.
Incredible people doing wonderful work ... they are my go-to place for donations and for housewares.
Love my new $10 leather boots and $5 suede skirt.
Run by an awful company that opposed PrEP.
Nice and reasonable second hand items. I love the fact the had free std service
The best thrift store in town and the clinic in the back is an even more amazing resource.
Its ok if you have the time to look through all the clothes, you might find something nice.
