I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback about my experience with Colleen at Shady Grove Fertility. From the very beginning, Colleen has been incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and compassionate. She has made what can often be a challenging and emotional process feel so much more manageable and hopeful. Her attentiveness to my needs, her willingness to answer every question, and her genuine care have truly made a difference in my fertility journey.Thank you for having such a dedicated and wonderful professional on your team. My experience with Colleen was great!
Throughout my extended time at SGF, I have been able to establish a really positive relationship with my nurse, Colleen. Time and again she has gone above and beyond in her standard of care! She takes the time to listen to my concerns and answers my questions promptly with patience and clarity. Her knowledge and professionalism is evident in every interaction. I am grateful for her expertise, support, and compassion. She truly has made and continues to make such a big difference in my fertility journey!
Ive been a patient at Shady Grove for about a year and a half. Overall my experience has not been great. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful but I have had a negative experience with a few. Most recently I discovered that the financial estimate they gave me before beginning treatments was very wrong. I now have several bills that I didnt expect to have totalling near $1K. Also, my original doctor advised me to move forward with treatment despite certain test results showing values above what he previously told me was not ideal and had stopped treatment plans due to that value in the past. It made me feel like he just wanted to get paid and wasnt concerned about having the best chance of success. I raised my concerns on multiple occasions and was repeatedly told it was fine and to move forward. I ultimately chose to move forward because they had told me it was 100% covered by my insurance. Now the truth comes out that its not covered and I have a heap of bills. I have switched Doctors and feel hopeful they she will be a better fit for me. However I have had many calls and emails from the financial department and still no resolution to their financial error.
The care at Shady Grove really is top notch. Our provider, Dr. Healy, and her nurse, Katie, have been absolutely wonderful over the past 7 months! Whenever I have had a test or procedure I feel that genuinely care to check in and explain or see how I am feeling. During several ultrasounds I have had the pleasure of meeting other providers and they were all very nice as well. Unfortunately, I needed to call the triage nurse line afterhours twice within our time here and both times I got a very prompt response from a nurse who was knowledgeable and able to put my worries at ease. We will definitely be going back to Shady Grove in the future to transfer some more Embies.
I worked closed with my RN Beth at Shady Grove in Annapolis (and Rockville). I always felt seen and heard, and Beth took her time to answer each and everyone on my many questions with patience and warmth.I feel lucky for such a supportive team, and for an office that was always easy to contact and get an appointment with (even sameDay).Would definitely recommend!
We LOVE our SGF team at Annapolis! Colleen has been such a support, always answering questions and returning calls quickly, and never making me feel silly for the questions I had. Getting prescriptions refilled was always quick and easy, and Colleen reviewed all options to help me identify what would work best for me and my family. She felt like a 3rd partner in this process throughout which is such a relief going through this process! The reason for 4 stars is that 3 years ago when my wife was going through IUI and then IVF, the whole clinic felt so much more personal (everyone knew our names and knew what we were in for, etc without us even saying anything). It seems the practice has gotten a bit larger and while some staff for sure still know is all the things (love my bloodwork girlies too!!). It just felt slightly less personal, but still Fantastic care nonetheless!
I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with my nurse Colleen Abell at SGF Annapolis. From the very beginning of my fertility journey, Colleen has been an incredible source of support and guidance. Her attentiveness and genuine care have truly made a world of difference during what can be an overwhelming process.Colleen consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that I feel informed, comfortable, and heard. She is always quick to respond to any concerns or questions I have, providing clear explanations and compassionate reassurance. Her dedication to her patients is evident in everything she does, and her warmth has brought a sense of calm and confidence to my fertility journey.I am deeply grateful to have Colleen by my side during this time. She is a true asset to the team at SGF Annapolis, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be under her care.
Janet and Courtney were fantastic with lab draws and being the familiar faces that I saw every day when arriving at the clinic. They are extremely patient and made a connection with me on each visit to Shady Grove. My experience has been positively impacted by both of these ladies.
Working with Shady Grove to conceive made a difficult time in my life so much better. They are attentive, considerate, thoughtful, knowledgeable, communicative and caring. Dr Chasen is amazing to work with and I felt like we were in the best hands from day one. I would recommend this practice to anyone I know experiencing infertility.
Dr. Chason has been amazing! She has gone above And beyond to ensure I felt comfortable and safe throughout the entire process! Also, Karen R from the Columbia branch was working at the Annapolis location and she was wonderful! She went above and beyond to help me and made me smile both times I have checked out with her !!!
Fertility treatment can be the biggest rollercoaster to ever experience, but having Dr.Chason and her team brought so much ease. From day 1 to day of graduation I was treated with so much love, care and support. My nurse Allyson was the best, I had a sonotech name hope once tell me I am in good hands with having Allyson as my nurse and she was not lying. The Annapolis location is my favorite location! I will truly miss Dr.Chason and her team.
Dr. Chason and her team provided excellent care as we navigated trying to conceive again after recurrent pregnancy loss. They walked us through extensive testing, developed a treatment plan to help sustain pregnancy, and provided thorough oversight during my first trimester. Fertility treatment can certainly be an overwhelming process, but each staff member was compassionate, patient, and incredibly encouraging. My husband and I are so appreciative of SGF and would highly recommend!
I was one of the first patients Friday morning when it was discovered that many of the SG systems were down due to the global outage. Courtney, Brittany, and Hope were AMAZING in finding work-arounds to get my monitoring appointment complete in a timely manner so that I could still get to work on time. What could have been a terrible appointment was saved by their excellent bedside manner!!
The Annapolis SGF team is the best! As soon as I walk in, Chrystal at the front desk knows me by name and I am checked in within seconds! The staff is quick and efficient and always makes me feel welcomed. I highly recommend this office! Thanks so much for your continuous care.
Karen R. from the Columbia office was at the Annapolis office today and it was so great to see her as always! She always has a smile and a warm welcoming demeanor. It definitely helps you feel at ease. One of the best staff members that SGF has!
Overall a wonderful experience, my husband and I felt taken care of and were kept up to date on all care and procedures. Shady Grove and Dr. Healy really helped us reach our goals of starting a family of our own and we couldnt be happier.
My experience here with the medical team has been great,I haven’t really much talk with the Dr. cos the nurses and ladies upfront (sweet medical assistant Karen R )has been very personable and understanding of what we going thru especially if I am running late to my appt cos am coming from school. Katie rn, Karen R and the lab ladies have all been great. Thanks for all you do.
I’ve been working with Shady Grove for almost a year now and cannot recommend them enough. Dr. Chason is amazing! Her bedside manner is 10/10. She is always incredibly understanding, informative, and just super nice in general. My nurse, Kelly, was also great. She was very responsive and understanding of all my anxious questions. In dealing with something as difficult as infertility, it was nice to have so many great people assisting me throughout the process.
Overall, our experience with Shady Grove was amazing. At the start, we were nervous after hearing other couples’ journeys through IVF. We selected Shady Grove after our consultation with Dr. Mottla and our RN Dana Poldmae. Dr. Mottla was incredibly thoughtful in walking us through the process and making us feel at ease. He was patient in answering all of our 1000 questions! Dana provided detailed calendars and responded to all our ad hoc questions. Overall the team was very warm and empathetic and we felt well supported.
Please excuse the spelling of names. The ultrasound tech Meleesa was full of energy and encouraged me to talk to a nurse which I appreciate. Cezanne did a wonderful job explaining the next steps and relieving any anxiety.
So happy with my experience at Shady Grove Annapolis. Dr. Chason is wonderful and not only addressed our needs from a medical perspective, but was also sensitive to the emotional hardships we’ve been through on our journey with recurrent pregnancy loss. The office staff is efficient and was able to accommodate me wherever I was in my cycle, I never felt like anything was delayed or on hold due to Shady Grove - they schedule around the needs of the patient and make things work. An IVF clinic is not a place any of us want to find ourselves, but Shady Grove Annapolis is one of the good ones! We graduated today and feel incredibly grateful for Dr. Chason, our nurse Michaela, and the entire nursing team who helped us get to this point.
Karen R. always brings a smile to my face whenever she’s at the Annapolis office! She is friendly and caring.
Karen R. Made me smile!! She typically works at the Columbia office but what a blessing it was to see her today!
My husband and I went to Shady Grove Towson location when I was 27 and was diagnosed with PCOS. The experience at that location was great, although we did not move forward at that time the information and experience had been pleasant. We ended up getting pregnant using other methods a few years after that experience. Now at 33 years old, the reason I am giving 2 stars.I am a current patient at the Shady Grove Annapolis location for only 3 months now and it has been the most stressful thing imaginable. The doctor that I seen was great, he was very informative and personable. After asking the Dr. the cost of IVF/IUI, he said he was unsure and looked up my insurance. After looking up my insurance the dr said I was covered 80 percent for IVF and the remaining balance would be paid out of pocket. I got test done for the next few weeks and the doctor said he was unsure why I was not able to conceive, he found nothing wrong, not even PCOS. A few more weeks went by and I heard nothing from the office, I called for days and weeks and they do not answer the phone. I have never dealt with a dr office who just never answered the phone besides shady grove. Finally when I spoke with staff in the office they seem like ppl who worked at McDonald’s instead of Shady Grove. They just kind of rush you through the process, nothing is personable. I don’t need them to be my therapist but you are working at a facility where people are struggling with starting a family. Anywho… if you are looking for a place where communication is key this is not the place.Last but not lease.Financial: After the dr informed us that IVF was covered 80 percent by my insurance, once we decided to start the process we were informed by the financial department that IVF was not covered at all and that it would be $15000. Financials should be something shared at front for all patients, but then it gets better. So after we were told the price we decided to try the IUI first since the dr could not find a reason I was not getting pregnant I for sure thought IUI would work. So after deciding to do IUI I spoke with the finance department so I can know the exact cost and not be surprised. The finance staff Felicia contacted me on 10/13 @8am, after speaking with her she informed me my insurance did not cover IVF after the dr ensured me on the first visit that my insurance covered 80 percent, I have no idea where that number came from. Felicia informed me on this call that my insurance covers 100 percent of IUI. Last week 10/23 I spoke with the nurse and wanted to move forward with the IUI, the nurse sent one of the medications to my pharmacy which I paid for. The nurse states after everything is cleared through my insurance I should begin in November. So after paying for all the medication and out of pocket for all the exams and ultra sounds that needed to get done it was pointless for shady grove. I received an email from Felicia on 10/24/23 and she informed me that my insurance did not cover it at all and it would cost $1995, excluding any medication. After questioning the 100% quote that she just gave me two weeks ago, she said that’s because your insurance change “which was not true”. I am actually still a patient with SG but this experience has been off putting. I am willing to pay any other place to perform the IUI besides shady grove.BTW: this was not at all about finance, my husband and I have great jobs that can afford each treatment. I did not feel comfortable putting my fertility in the hands of ppl who I felt did not care about the patients. All of that to say, if you are looking for a more transactional experience then shady grove Annapolis may be it for you. If you are looking for a more personable, communicative experience, please look elsewhere.
My husband and I are forever grateful for Dr. Mottla and the entire staff at Shady Grove Fertility for helping us welcome a beautiful, healthy, baby boy into this world! We felt like we were in the best possible hands from the start. Our bundle of joy wouldn’t be here without their help. I went to many locations during my time with Shady Grove and always had a positive experience. We highly recommend Dr. Mottla and Shady Grove!
The people here are amazing at taking care of you, Michaela is a wonderful care manager and Karen R. always takes care of us at the checkout desk.
I have been a patient with Shady Grove since 2020. I have enjoyed working with Dr. McKeeby & his clinical team. I found the practice to run very smoothly and the staff has always been very friendly. It doesnt matter who I see at each appointment, everyone is extremely respectful and hoping for a successful outcome. I would highly recommend this practice!
Amazed at the incompetency of this organization. Literally every person weve worked with other than the doctors has been a nightmare. If youre going through insurance, go somewhere else. This place is preying on people in a stressful situation. If you can get someone to talk to you they arent capable of handling simple tasks like sending a prescription in. Save your money, go somewhere else and good luck with what youre going through!
The staff, from the front desk to the nurse practitioners and doctors, are some of the most amazing people I’ve had the pleasure to work with. They are genuinely happy to help you and support you through what is a very challenging process. They make each office visit welcoming and comfortable. It’s been an absolutely pleasure working with every member of the Shady Grove team!
I spent thousand of dollars here did 2 rounds of ivf and one FET had a major miscarriage, never even got a call or a sorry for your loss. After the last time I begged for more testing and time to heal they said they had done everything possible. Or at least thats what they claimed on my insurance. I switched to a doctor in Delaware Dirm and after going over all my paperwork from sgf they found multiple lies. They had claimed they did a hysteroscopy but they had never done one. Dirm found that my uterus was misshapen and had polyps which could be causing the reoccurring loss and are removing them. Sgf just kept telling me it mustve been a bad embryo, 3 times?? I went through so much loss so much heart break and so much time and money wasted and sgf never listened when I raised concerns that maybe it was a me issue and not an embryo issue. Now I finally have answers im not on my 3rd round of ivf with dirm they changed my meds we got 40+ follicles which is more then we ever got out of 2 ivf cycles with sgf, oh and dirm doesnt charge thousands for genetic testing they charge a couple hundred per embryo at my new doctors so we will finally have all the right answers and able to afford it now with dirm. If you can switch doctors please switch. I felt like they were pumping me full of hormones draining me and my insurance all for money and were not actually caring about my health and what needed to be done.
Karen R. at the Annapolis office was absolutely phenomenal, took the time to address our concerns and went above and beyond to get things coordinated for us!
The Shady Grove Fertility office in Annapolis provided fantastic service. The staff is attentive, efficient, and compassionate. I highly recommend this office to anyone looking to grow their family.
We’ve been going to shady grove since pre pandemic. The staff is friendly and helpful. When we lost our second baby at 9 weeks not only were they respectful and wonderful but they cared about my well being. They reached out the next day and they continued to follow up which was wonderful. The facility is always clean. When Covid restrictions hit it was different but not bad. Staff were still friendly just farther away. They did their best to continue the same level of care through an unforeseen obstacle and I believe they surpassed expectations.
So far my experience has been great. I saw Rebecca Chason who was patient and friendly and I didn’t feel any judgement for my choice to be a single mom. Also Miko at the front desk was very helpful and patient with me. She made sure I had my financial coordinators information. Very pleased
Im tired of not being able to get a hold of anyone at the Annapolis or Rockville locations. The staff is helpful, but only if you can get a hold of them. I have to go through a phone tree and navigate through the options, half of which tell me to go somewhere else and then disconnect. Best case scenario, the phone rings for a few minutes and I have to leave a voicemail. Im spending thousands and thousands of dollars and I cant even talk to a human being.
This has been such an unpleasant experience for me and my wife. It takes several calls just to get someone to answer the phone. I asked multiple times at the 1st appointment how much everything would cost but they acted like a car salesman around the topic. After pressing they said our insurance covered 80% but still wouldnt give me a number. We had multiple tests and appointments that were paid out of pocket while we were assured the finance department would be in touch. When they finally called it was to say that the ivf treatment plan we decided on and were doing the tests for was not covered at all but that iui was 100% covered. We agreed to go that route and got the medication out of pocket while we waited the approval they said would take a couple of weeks. Yesterday we received an email from them that iui is not covered at all. They just throw out numbers to get you hooked and we were dumb enough to trust them and go with it. It was a waste of time and money. I wanted the price upfront to determine if we move forward now or if I had more saving to do. There were alot more issues but those were the main issues. Now that I have a general pricing we will find somewhere else to spend our money.
We had a great experience at Shady Grove. Dr. Mottla was always kind and caring. Jen Lavy was our dedicated nurse and she was always available for my millions of questions. We had trouble with our online pharmacy at one point and were about to run out of medication over the weekend. Shady Grove gave us a week supply at no charge, early one Saturday morning. Everyone at the office was always happy. When we graduated, the whole staff shared in our excitement.
Staff is awesome. From Front Desk up to Dr. Mottla are amazing.
I have nothing but glowing things to say about Shady Grove and specifically this Annapolis office! I found the office staff to be friendly and welcoming, the TVs had regular local morning news but honestly I played on my phone like everyone else while I waited so it doesn’t really matter, the nurses were so caring, and the morning rush is so efficient without making you feel like a number.I was impressed every morning I went in for bloodwork and the ultrasound with how they cycled through the dozens of women, but I never felt personally rushed just efficient. And since no one wants to hang out at a doctors office all that long it’s super appreciated.I also found all the nurses to be very caring and personable. They use your name, chat with you while taking your blood or doing the ultrasound, genuinely want to help and see you be successful. My nurse, Jen, was so sweet even when she had to call and give me bad news. And I felt the happiness when she finally had good news! The entire office shared our excitement when our fourth cycle of IUI worked! We had Dr. Chason and she was right on point with her treatment plans. She made adjustments based on how the previous cycle went and on cycle 4 we got pregnant, but if we hadn’t we’d already discussed what other options we had for the next couple cycles before moving to IVF. (To be clear, my insurance covers a certain number of IUI attempts before going to IVF)As my husband and I look at having a second baby we feel confident and comfortable heading back to Shady Grove in Annapolis to expand our family. The feeling of love in that office makes a difficult, emotional situation feel a little less lonely. I highly, highly recommend this office to anyone struggling with infertility.
Mixed feelings about Shady Grove.Pros: we had a successful ivf experience with Dr. McKeeby. We liked Dr. McKeeby and appreciated his experience and knowledge. We also saw Dr. Mottla a couple times and hes very compassionate. We liked our nurse, Ann. The staff who draw blood and do the ultrasounds are great. The front desk staff are hit or miss.Cons: they are quick to ask for money and the billing department deserves ZERO stars; they are awful. Office visits were more stressful than necessary because the Annapolis office insists on keeping the waiting room TVs on news stations at high volume and patients arent allowed to change the channel. Listening to political nonsense while waiting for a stressful appointment is not a good combo. Would be much better with just soft music or something neutral like a cooking show.
Unfortunately, Shady Grove was unable to help me get pregnant, so I will have to go elsewhere. However, I realize that my case was well beyond their control, and I dont fault them for it.This was my first time going to such a large clinic, and often times I felt more like a name on a screen than an actual patient. They see so many people it is impossible for you to get any kind of personable service (outside my nurse Allyson who is amazing). Dr. Chason was my RE, and while I appreciated her insight and bluntness about our probability of success, I never saw her unless I specifically made a consult with her.My main issue and reason for my rating came from working with other staff. Rarely would I get the same answer from the front desk when trying to make appointments. I got CD1 on a Saturday the cycle I was supposed to schedule my HSG, and I was told they dont schedule them on the weekend. That wasnt what I had asked. When I called again and got a different staff I was able to schedule it for the following Wednesday. Another instance I was double booked and tried to cancel one of the appoinments but instead BOTH were cancelled and I almost missed my monitoring appointment. There was another instance where a lack of communication almost made me miss an IUI because they had me down as timed intercourse. I had to really fight to get it straightened out because I was misunderstood. With my HSG I expressed I as concerned it was gong to be painful and the staff completely dismissed my concerns. When I had my first IUI, it was really painful and the NP just laughed and said that means Im where Im supposed to be! IUIS are NOT meant to be painful, and the second and third were much better when an actual RE did them.Shady Grove is the Cadillac of fertility clinics, so if you are paying out of pocket like we were I suggest you go somewhere else. Luckily we were able to get a military discount, but they are prohibitively expensive if you dont have any type of fertility coverage. I was expecting the OOP price for a IUI to be 1000 but it was 1800 BEFORE the discount. Ive wasted thousands of dollars and have nothing to show for it.
Shady Grove has been amazing to me. Dr Mottla is a sweet heart and truly cares about his patients (do not see Dr. Mckeeby hes a jerk). Dana is an amazing nurse and always keeps me updated on what is going on. The front desk is very helpful and are always there to answer your questions. I got pregnant on my first IVF cycle. I am very happy with shady grove Annapolis and I would recommend Dr Mottla to anyone struggling with infertility. Hes a bit harder to get in with but it is very much worth the wait.
Karen R. is lovely to work with and always brings a smile to my face!
My case is so complicated and there are so many people involved. However, my nurse at Shadygrove has been so comforting and helpful in explaining things to me and trying to work with me. It’s going to be a long road but Dr. Chason is doing every test she can to make sure we have all the answers so we can do the right treatment the first time. Although I hate for it to drag out, it could save me a ton of grief later on.
This review is for all of Shady Grove, not just the Annapolis office. They are huge machine and know that they are the only option for fertility treatment for much of their coverage area. We felt like cogs on an assembly line for much of our journey. They made some errors (which we caught and were able to correct) but ultimately they did their job and we have a baby. They know that their clients will do anything to have a child and so they dont have to worry about individualized care or customer service.
I wouldn’t be a mom of almost 2 kids without Dr.Mottla and RN Sarah T. They walked us through ever step of the process with one retrieval and two successful 1st FETs. Dr. Mottla is the most kind and pleasant Dr to work with during such a challenging process. Even while he was on vacation he was still supporting his patients. Sarah helps with all the questions and makes sure you have all the information. Patient care and concerns is their top priority. My family is forever grateful for Dr. Mottla, Sarah, SGF as a whole, and the rest of the Annapolis and Rockville teams.
So far, so good. Im in my first IVF cycle with SGF and the staff are all really warm and friendly. I do think they push a bit much for unnecessary tests and I will cite that the front desk doesnt upload medical records that Ive had faxed from other practices. I recommend patients be their own advocate when it comes to fertility - this clinic is very professionally run, but they seem to treat everyone the same vs the approach of a reproductive immunologist, adjusting protocol according to other factors. Overall positive recommendation.
If I could give NEGATIVE Numbers I would...As a blessed parent, I feel Shady Grove continues to cause nothing but grief and stress to a couple so close to my heart!!Nothing is worse than seeing family constantly endure nothing but frustration, stress, depression and feeling of neglect. Shouldnt the fertility clinic treat clients with respect and assistance in achieving the ultimate goal? Sadly all I hear is about the financial REQUIREMENTS Shady Grove demands. What does it cost to show compassion, empathy, hope and consideration??When will Shady Grove stand behind their commercialized support (as shown on TV Commercials)? My HOPE is Shady Grove will WANT to evaluate their methods of care (or lack of) and prove they are 100% invested in the treatments. PLEASE--Provide ALL couples the respect deserved and opportunity for a successful outcome
I read alot of mixed reviews before going to Shady Grove Annapolis so i wanted to leave my review..My husband and I were both treated wonderfully by all the staff at Shady Grove from the first appt to our last. Nothing about struggling TTC is fun but they really know what they are doing, we were lucky enough to conceive on our first medicated IUI. Im now 9 weeks pregnant and have officially graduated from Shady Grove, I would definitely recommend them!
My husband and I switched to Dr. Mottla and the Annapolis office after several unsuccessful IUI cycles. We are very happy with that decision because it took several more cycles before we found success. Dr. Mottla took the time to meet with us whenever we needed, thoroughly explained (and modified) our treatment plan at every step, and was compassionate during our tough times. We also received great support from the other doctors, nurses, phlebotomists, techs, and secretaries. Without their hard work and positive attitudes, we might have given up before we conceived. We can’t thank them enough and highly recommend the entire team.
If you are 40 (or even 38) and older, stay away from SGF. There are other clinics that will serve you better. I regret the time and money I spent here. Here are some of the problems with the place:- They are looking for patients that are easy wins to float their reported “stats” (e.g., younger patients)- You are subject to whoever is on shift as your provider and a lot of communication is lost between the cracks- Non-tailored IVF protocols. You need to fit into the box of the four offered.- Freedom Fertility Pharmacy costs more with SGF, compared with other clinics ($980 vs. $730 per Gonal-F pen)- Sales-like pitches to get you to use an “egg donor” if you are DOR.- SFG slots you around with birth control for their own scheduling purposesWhen I switched clinics, it was night and day, between what was done at SFG versus how it should be done.
We have used Shady Grove twice but our second time for our send child went with some issues. Basically, our first cycle had to be canceled due to complications and we had explained to Dr. Mottla that we could no longer continue as we couldnt afford to. He had offered to us to continue and only charge at 50% of their normal fees and we agreed (over the phone). When it was all said and done and time to pay the bill we were told they couldnt charge it all at 50% and only discounted two of the visits. Imagine our surprise when we learned we now had to pay twice what we were expecting - we were even told at every visit that there was no balance. Bottom line - this company is only about money and make sure you document everything from them and get everything in writing before committing.
Dr. Mottla, Sarah T, Rn, all front desk staff, and all blood work and ultrasound techs were so kind, professional, and efficient! Even in the middle of a pandemic this place ran like a well oiled machine! We are very pleased with our experience and would definitely return if needed in the future!!
ZERO Stars. This place is awful. If I can urge you to do one thing, it would be to GO ANYWHERE ELSE! Try Hopkins, try ANYWHERE but this place. My wife and I specifically chose Shady Grove after seeing that they help with LGBT family planning. We scheduled a supposedly free consultation, and have had one issue after the next since arriving at that consultation. We were only scheduling to get more information on tracking ovulation and looking into diagnostics to make sure my wife was ovulating, due to difficulties with tracking when she was ovulating. We were clear in stating that we did not necessarily want to pursue any treatments beyond the diagnostics, nor did we want any involvement with a sperm bank.Upon arriving, Dr. Mottla was very nice. You will want to note that the remainder of the staff there do not redeem the clinic as a whole, since interactions with the doctors are minimal. After meeting with the doc, we were taken into a room to discuss what happens next. Several times, inferences were made about us selecting a sperm bank (we reminded them we have not decided if we want to go that route), and scheduling testing. They explained what my wife would need to do, then glanced at me, told me I would also need to do some sort of blood work, but dont worry, thats the only thing we will need you for. Ha. You can be damn sure that they made me sign all of their paperwork for when they need me to pay the $200 bill they keep sending for their free consultation.Imagine a heterosexual couple goes in to the clinic to get help because the husband found out he was sterile. Would you EVER tell him dont worry, thats the only thing we need you for, or would you be sensitive to the fact that it must be hard enough for him to be coming in, feeling powerless about not being able to have a baby with his wife, and that OF COURSE we need you too? Because I am pretty sure that, at some point, he is going to be needed to parent the child he is asking for help in making. Being told I wasnt needed was one of the most insensitive, ignorant, discriminating situations I have ever encountered. And now back to the what to do next part of the consultation. They do not customize anything to the patients needs. If that were the case, they would not have repeatedly pushed for us to decide on a sperm bank. They would have actually made notes about our custom plan, instead of telling my wife we as a couple need (oh wait, maybe they do need me for something else) to see their social worker to make sure we are both prepared for dealing with creating a child through a sperm bank (there it is again, still never committed to using a sperm bank, yet you want us to check another box and bill our insurance for another service/co-pay).After that experience, my wife and I vowed we would, at all costs, go anywhere but this place for anything other than the diagnostics which were already ordered. And thankfully, the diagnostics showed EVERYTHING IS FINE. If we had let them continue to bully us into unnecessary steps, imagine how much larger our bill could have been for NO REASON AT ALL!!!The only thing this place wants to do is make money, as the only protocol they push is the one which will make them the most money, the fastest. I have seen used car dealers with more tact in their approach--how sad that this place is supposed to be a medical practice. The only thing I am sorry about is that we ever trusted them to be sensitive to LGBT families (it is clearly just another marketing scheme for them to make MORE MONEY).P.S. They claim military discounts, but I can assure you that they didnt offer one for the $170 consultation bill they have been harassing us with.
They didnt seem to want to address what I made my appointment for, but instead pushed and pushed for treatments. It came off to me as their main concern was making money off of me, but not addressing my issues. I couldnt get out of there fast enough. They have really left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not be returning... Cant wait to see the bill.
Shady Grove says they wish to help... including with financial assistance. There are many of us out there who are not rich but are looking for help in starting a family. All Shady Grove cares about is money,.. not helping families grow as they claim . It has destroyed my hope of receiving help for my infertility and crashed my dreams of growing my family.
Underwhelmed. Just felt like you’re on an assembly line the whole time. I never actually met my doctor or saw him on video chat. It seemed they didn’t have enough time for your specific needs or focusing on you individually. Nice staff but just Ehh
I love this office! The staff is friendly and I’m usually seen very quickly. Dr. Chason and my nurse Sarah have been amazing through this process. I highly recommend!
Thank you Dr. Motlla, SGF staff, and mainly nurse Allyson for taking care of me! We are awaiting our baby girl. Thanks for all you do :-)
My husband and I worked with Dr. Chason and she was wonderful every step of the way. I highly recommend working with her!
Go to Europe and save $10000. this place and all other ivf in the US is an assembly line scam. $300/visit just to sit in the office and gain little info from their rude staff. your dollars are a vote in the economy. all medical here is a scam. spend it where ppl care.
By far the worst to deal with very unprofessional and lack communication.Everything since day one with me and my wife has been notified to us last minute.
The woman 07/29/2022 at 3:00 PM that assisted me by phone in the front desk is rude, without any empathy, and she didnt help me with what I was asking for.
Belcher Pavillion third floor!
Very caring, friendly, peaceful
On Saturday September 28th I was in for blood work and experienced a very different process than I have during the week. On this day in particular I expressed to the nurse that my hand is the best place for my draws at which time I was told she was going to have another nurse who “works in the NICU” handle my draw. The second nurse took me in a room and did not seem happy that I stated my hands are a preference as my arm veins tend to blow out. She proceeded to look at each hand multiple times, each arm multiple times, the tops of both feet multiple times and then decided the back side of my wrist was where she was comfortable going. I asked this nurse to talk to me during the process as I have a history of fainting (this did not occur). After my blood draw I began to feel nauseous due to the length of time it took to determine a spot within 7 areas that she was comfortable with. Based on being told this nurse works in the NICU this experience was extremely concerning and time consuming for everyone involved.I have to add that Courtney and Jen have both been successful in blood draws in both hands MULTIPLE times over the last 5 months. They are both absolutely amazing at their jobs while being extremely pleasant during the process.
