Dear AHF team,I hope this message finds you well.First of all, I would like to say thank you for having such a helpful and supportive organization for the society that is in need. Your team is amazing in helping me to get tested.Meanwhile, I would like to share my unpleasant experience today. I tested gonorrhea positive so I went to the Cedar Springs clinic to receive treatment. I am a full-time worker thus I went there during my lunch break. I verified on the phone and the staff said receiving the treatment shouldnt take long as there are fewer patients and I did get ticket 3 for receiving treatment. I thought it wouldnt take long because at least I am the third person. However, it took one hour and a half for the doctor to see me since I knew the second person had gone in and I was checking my watch all the time to hope that I could be done during my lunch hour. Its good for a doctor to check a patient carefully but an hour and a half is too long and insufficient considering other patients in the queue. Compared to the Help Center, they only need 15 mins to give an injection then patients are all set and good to go.When I actually saw the doctor today at 12:30 noon, I didnt remember his name, sorry I am not a native English speaker. I believe there was only one male doctor working today at the Cedar Springs clinic. I guess he is pretty young and a bit chubby. He was wearing his mask all the time which created a distance to the patients. It is understandable if he is scared of COVID-19 but the Help Center doctor never wore a mask but with a big smile instead. He asked, Are you gonorrhea positive? and I replied, Yes. His tone was impatient. Then, he asked do you have insurance? I said yes. He gave me a blamed look and asked why are you here? He added this place is only for those who cannot afford it. He is right but he shouldnt judge too fast especially when he is working for sensitive and vulnerable communities. I cant imagine how he would communicate with those patients who tested HIV positive. He should be aware that with this non-profit organization background, his job is not only giving physical treatment but also caring for patients mentally. I explained to him that I am new to the US and just got a new job. From the job, I got insurance and I dont have a primary doctor yet. I even told him I was more comfortable seeing a doctor here. Though he started making me uncomfortable, I asked if I still got the treatment today. He said yes then he asked me to lie down on my back for the treatment.I did as he told me. When he was preparing for the injection, I untied my pants button, lifted my shirt, and moved my pants down a bit so that I could get ready for the injection. Thats how we do back in my country. It only showed my left-side upper butt a bit. I dont see it as an inappropriate action. All of a sudden, he said dont expose yourself until I ask you to. I felt humiliated and discouraged to continue my treatment. I just told him I wanted to go to the toilet then I left the clinic. I would say he is immature and unprofessional when dealing with my case at least. I hope AHF can give more professional communication training especially when dealing with vulnerable patients. Thank you.
