Visited the outside part behind the store where they host the $2 items. After going through the items in the blaring heat, I was ready to go look at the inside items. There was a large man w/ a beard guarding the door who overheard me ask my partner if we can enter through the opened back door and he said the only people he was allowing into the store through the back were those who were planning to pay for one of the items they were selling outside. He said everyone else has to go all the way around to through the front. After enduring the heat and being denied access through the back door due to us not having an item we wanted to purchase yet was incredibly frustrating. Its a shame because we had a large box of clothes we were planning to donate. Decided to leave and donate it elsewhere. The staff/ownership need to be more wary that their customers shopping in the back in the texas heat should not be made to walk all around the shopping complex to enter the inside portion just because they dont have an item in hand to purchase yet. This was my first experience in the community and left a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be in a hurry to return anytime soon.
They get restocked every day, have a good selection and prices. The staff is very nice. No changing rooms. They have a 48 hr return policy for store credit. Books are 1 to 2$. They dont have a separate section for below small size and some of their clothes are also disordered based on size, so dont forget to check other sections too.
An employee harassed my family and me for a very stupid reason. We came to check this place out for the first time, parked behind the building with no cars beside us. We had an okay time in the store and then headed back to the car when we noticed a car very close to ours. Leaving us no room to open our doors. We wondered how he got out of his car.. None of us got our car, so we didnt hit it and decided to just pull out and then get in. As our driver was getting in, a man seemingly heading into the back door of the building yelled, You better not hit my car; you obviously dont know how to park. He then started cussing us out, saying rude things, and just staring at us and pulling us out. He was ~54 with black cross earrings and some little black boots. He was extremely rude.Edit: I inspected my car door and noticed a scratch on the side that he was parked on. I bought this car a week ago.
Ronnie & Jeremy were great, once I got to the back I was in and out. They also both were super kind & had great energy. The only drawback was my wait time, I waited about 2 1/2 hours—however once Ronnie noticed he took care of me immediately. My advice would be for visitors to make appointments prior to going to avoid a long wait.
“I recently had the pleasure of getting my blood tested by Jeremy, and I must say it was one of the most comfortable experiences I’ve had in a medical setting. From the moment I walked in, Jeremy greeted me with a warm smile and a reassuring demeanor that immediately put me at ease. What impressed me the most was Jeremy’s skill in performing the blood test. He was incredibly gentle and precise, making the entire process virtually pain-free. His technique was flawless, and I barely felt a thing throughout the entire procedure. Not only that, but Jeremy was also extremely efficient, completing the test in record time without sacrificing the quality of his work. Moreover, Jeremy’s professionalism was evident in every aspect of his service. He took the time to explain each step of the process, ensuring that I felt comfortable and informed throughout. His attention to detail and commitment to patient care truly set him apart.Overall, I cannot recommend Jeremy highly enough for anyone in need of blood testing services. Thanks to his expertise and compassionate approach, what could have been a stressful experience turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. Thank you, Jeremy, for your outstanding service!”
A small thrift store with a variety of items at reasonable discounted prices. You can easy find it from the streets but limited parking is available. Supporting this store helps supports various causes dealing with HIV and other problems of today. Enjoy.
First and foremost AWESOME AWESOME store. Ive shopped here for years. The new staff members exceeded my expectations. I spoke with Alaric ,Vinny, Micelle, and Cyrol during my time in the store. They were all very helpful and working as a team in different areas. Its was pretty busy for a Sunday and they just had a spunk about them. I watched them help each other out effortlessly. Clothing items were great bargains and quality. Down side was a lot of the bigger pieces in furniture section were pricey!!! Yikes. On a positive note staff was great environment was magnificent. The team there is 1000% a Winning Team.
Simply love this place. Staff always remembers you and greets you with a smile. My only small complaint was the sale this past Saturday. Great prices. But EVERYTHING was on the concrete in the parking lot. The text message said everything was 2.00. They should have stated only clothes.A bit disappointed. Hopefully this will get better next time!
Vinny is an absolute angel. One of the most genuine souls Ive met in a very long time!! He has a plethora of knowledge and is always willing yo help no matter how big or small the task is!!
The BEST, and I mean the BEST thrift store around! Whenever I go I always find a few items that are must-haves. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
This place was fine. Its small & has a lot more mens clothing than womens, but that doesnt matter to me because I shop both. Im only docking 2 stars because the employees werent friendly or welcoming at all, especially the cashier. Im not in a rush to visit again, which is a shame, because I love supporting my community.
Such a good cause and mission. I love this little shop & what it stands for 🎗️
So happy we found this gem! We found some GREAT buys and proceeds going to a meaningful cause makes it that much sweeter! The customer service was top notch! We can’t wait to visit again!! Such a Cute spot!!
Overall, I love this brand and the employees are great. Their window displays are always beautiful as well.I just wish they were a little more clear and up front about their pick up policy. For example, many of the apartments and condo buildings in the surrounding area are 3 floors, without elevators. You also have to be donating at least 2 large items for them to come pick up.
I have been here plenty of times. Always felt welcome and valued. What a very helpful location free testing is provided along with positive vibes and if you have some concerns DJ my services counselor is very informative. Put your health first and visit this location and why not thrift or donate to continue the community service.
Greatest place for fun finds and unique gifts. Best of all, $ goes to an urgent cause. Cannot thank you enough for the amazing work do for EVERYONE!
This is a great second hand store in Oak Lawn. They have a small but varied selection of housewares, appliances, furniture and clothing/shoes/accessories.The employees are friendly and the store is very clean and organized, tagged according to color, with different colors on sale each week.Notes:Men section has more selection than women. They pick up furniture donations. They do NOT deliver furniture, but recommend a moving vendor for deliveries.97 cents of every dollar goes to AIDS research and a free clinic for the community.
AHF located in Out of the Closet is a gem. Youve got a group of people there that have real heart for what they do. Diego was professional and kind and I could tell he really cares about what hes doing for the community. This is a resource I would recommend to anyone - plus, you can run into some really good finds while checking out the thrift store that benefits this service. Thank you for what you do!
I love their support overall, but their pick-up donation was of the worst services Ive ever experienced. They were four hours late to our appointment, very aggressive in tone, and immediately left without a word after they had learned that my apartment is on the 4th floor (though the pick-up truck was on the 2nd floor, so not against their policy). We were willing to assist the crew with their work, but their employees were immediately uncooperative. It felt as if they were looking for ways to get out of the work. Our furniture that needed moving were less than 30 lbs. Its sad because we really wanted to give away our furniture to people who needed it, but couldnt fit a few things in our car.
Out Of The Closet is one of my go-to places when Im unsure what I want, but I still want to browse. The price is right, and its for a good cause. Heres a picture of the shelves where you can find lots of quality things and stuff!
First time here, just went through my closet and sorted through all the things that I haven’t worn in a good minute that I wanted to donate to somewhere. Easy donation process, helpful friendly staff, and lovely environment…plus they’re doing amazing work that I want to stand behind.1000% will be my go to donation spot! Worth the 45 minute drive from my neck of the woods!Thank you so much for being such an incredible place! I appreciate y’all!
I love this store and it is one of the best consignments that I shop at constantly. I have an eye for nice things and weekly they receive donations and granted not every donation will be of interest to me but every now and then I stop in when I think the inventory has been recycled with stocked with new items. Definitely worth checking out and and their prices are affordable. I also admire their pricing structure when they will be discounted if they are not moved within a certain timeframe giving you additional savings. Last the staff at the counter and store clerks are all pleasant and have a willingness to assist approach to all their consumers.
Great little shop and its all for a great cause. Joey was sooooo sweet!
Called today to arrange a pickup, a very nice queen size sofa sleeper and a large hair on hide ottoman. Pickup guy said it would have to be at least three pieces, really they refuse quality merchandise, go in and experience it for yourself. I wouldn’t donate what in the store I’d throw it in the trash. Salvation Army is coming in two weeks!
Every single time I go here I always find a plethora of treasures!! I always find great clothes that is to my liking every single time.Regardless of what you came here to shop for, you will find other things that capture your attention and bam!!! another great find. I love this place and simply cannot see myself going to any other place.Great staff, lots of different styles to choose from, has something for everybody!!! Knick knacks galore!!!You will not be disappointed!!!!
I have been in this facility many times and always bought something because I want to help and support my community but I always see only used trash for sale so I decided to donate some better stuff when I moved and was in for a surprise! I tried to donate some brand new items that had never been opened that consisted of things like James Dean stand ups and gay pride flags to only be turned away! I was told they did not want it and to take it to Genius down the street. I am very shocked! I will never support this place again!
I have completely cleaned out and updated my entire wardrobe from this place...I assumed it would be stocked with junk but how wrong was I!! I have also bought knickknacks and silverware here to update my new home...Will never spend money at Macys again...haha... Nearly all the laundered, clean, bright colored shirts are $5 and the pants are less than $10...How has this place stayed open since 1990?? I will tell you why....Every business should model themselves after this establishment...Thank-you for building a fortress in Dallas. Having said that, the staff are knowledgeable angels and I love the helpful employees at the HIV clinic inside!
Youve got A/C, organized racks, friendly cashiers, and a good cause! I had good success shopping here for the first time this past weekend. I ended up getting a professional dress and a comfy top for $6.75! Its a relatively small store, but definitely delivered. You cannot beat those prices. HIGHLY recommended.
I had such a great time here! im a regular thrift addict and though this place is a bit small, the pricing is great and the tag sales are really nice (esp on sundays). found some fun t-shirts and button-ups! the staff was very helpful and friendly, and i love that my money was supporting a honorable cause. definitely check this place out and support good people and good causes!!
Had a good experience. Prices were good, quality also good.
I was greeted as soon as I walked in and the guy that greeted me was very upbeat, seemed like he was genuinely happy. I felt very comfortable being there. Had some interesting items and good cheap prices. The shop is small so if youre looking for anything in particular, you may not find it. But as with all thrift shops, just come back later and they will have new things. I was greeted again as I left. I think I would definitely go back there. The only thing is, if it doesnt have a price tag, you cant buy it.
Very reasonably priced second hand store. Lots of good quality mens clothing (I think more mens clothing than womens even!).I didnt know who the staff members were (not all were wearing name tags or aprons), but when they came near theyd all ask if I needed help. This happened quite often, which was a nice change from the usual 2nd hand stores where the only person you usually find is the cashier.Downstairs had an active testing area where people could come in for free HIV testing. Upstairs had what I believe was a pharmacy. It is nice to see the profits go back into helping the community.Only negative was the parking - its a fairly active street and there werent many spots available on the street. There may be others in the neighborhood but I didnt get a chance to drive around to see as I was lucky enough to get a spot up the block.
I always take time out to share pleasurable shopping experiences however, today was not one of those experiences. The cashier, Taylor, appeared annoyed. I asked questions about a GPS system located behind the counter. It was taped closed. I asked about refund or exchange. He said no refunds. Im okay with that however, if im going to buy second hand electronics i need to at least see what is in the box and make sure it turns on. I asked him if he could open the box. He agreed begrudgingly. He whipped around got scissors and opened the box. I asked if i could use a power card to see if it powers up. He stated We would not sell it if it did not turn on. I said okay and told my son to go get my cord from my car. Gps systems use cigarette lighter plugs. I stepped over to the side used my cord and portable power box. It powered on. I told him I was ready to check out. He entered the prices and told me the total. I told him i have a membership number. He pecked the number then gave me my total. Im not sure what the issue was . Ive never received this type of customer service from this establishment. Had this been my only experience I would not return.Taylor should probably do an emotional check in before interacting with the public.
Staff is always friendly and responsive. Great selection and well organized racks. You can find brand names that are gently used and some NWT. The price is reasonable and they donate a significant amount of the proceeds. I believe it’s 97cents/$1.
If you want some decent second-hand clothes of all varieties, glassware, mugs, plates, shot glasses, cooking implements and utensils, obscure books and games, furniture odds and ends, or other random goodies all at very cheap prices, this is the place for you. Their inventory is always changing, as well, so it is worth revisiting often. Also, they provide free HIV testing as well as guidance for other STD tests and treatments, at no cost. Very friendly environment. This place is a staple of cedar springs in the oak lawn neighborhood and if you purchase anything, your money will go a long way in helping the community stay healthy, safe, and well-dressed!
Been going here for about a year now! beautiful store, kind staff, definitely the typa place you would go in just to get some serotonin.also! the way the proceeds are used to help others is all the more reason to visit :)
Staff always seems upbeat, the selection is both fantastic and well-priced, and I always leave happy with my purchases. Probably my favorite thrift store in the area and Im thrilled it all goes to a good cause. I do think the CD selection could be better but its certainly not the worst!
This place is amazing!!! You feel more like you are in a boutique and someone waved a wand so all the prices would be amazing!!! I have never had sooo many pants to pick from and things in my size in a thrift store/trade in store since I got to be a curvy girl. I literally turned myself into a clothes rack if great stuff cuz I kept finding one thing after another!! So awesome that they have changing rooms which is a major bonus for a thrift store. I thought they were going to be taking all my money with the amount of stuff I got but they had stuff half off and even a dollar!!! I made out with a literal laundry load of day to night work wear for only $32!!! The staff were very nice as well as patient with me because Im like a grabbing machine when Im shopping. The store was really clean and well laid out. I just wished that I had time to look into their home goods since I saw that they just sold a waffle iron. I would definitely say, this place is a must even for the thrift store nay sayers!!!
Prices are way tooooo high.Christmas decors are extremely expensive.Everything is triple the price.Higher than Target or Wal-Mart..Do not shop at this store...👇
Stopped by here after shopping local thrift stores and was incredibly surprised. This location is a thrift store with a great staff, amazing prices and specials and selection. However, what I learned upon my first visit is that it is a lot more.Out of the Closet provides free HIV/STD testing and has an onsite pharmacy open to the public along with a small clinic. The vest majority of the proceeds go to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.I had zero knowledge of this thrift store prior to my first visit and left very happy that it exists! Will certainly be my first stop for future thrift-store purchases.
This is a thrift store, so you know what youre getting from that perspective. The prices are fantastic, and there is a good selection of clothing (also some furniture, books, music, movies, etc.), and they recently expanded into the space next door that used to be a spin class facility. Really glad to see them being successful and growing. Of course, the most important aspect to Out of the Closet is their dedication and support of the GLBT community, especially in regard to those living with HIV/AIDS. Not only to they donate proceeds to the cause, but they also have an in-store pharmacy and offer HIV testing.
Tried to donate a few large items but had a horrible experience with the man that came by. Do not recommend donating any items to this place.
People are friendly, helpful and the services offered here are absolutely amazing. Great cause if you need to donate clothes or anything for that matter. Great prices and good quality items. LOVE THIS PLACE.
I love knowing that my donations help offset the costs of expensive medications. Both the thrift store and pharmacy are well run. Plus, the store is a real life treasure hunt. Recently paid $10 for an almost new shirt that I know cost $150 retail.
Im slightly confused on what donated items are for sale. I recently inquired about some lamps that were in a window display and was informed the display guy wouldnt sell them until another set came through that he liked. Being in retail management for almost 20 years, I was dumbfounded as to what kind of business they are running. I then discovered said display guy had been holding onto these lamps for over a year! Im confused why the manager would refuse to take money from a customer who is willing to buy, rather than have his display guy work with whats in the store to create a window display. Mind you, i have donated to this location multiple times since their doors opened (including the day i asked about these lamps) Free is Free.. .. sell what you have donated to your store, and dont hold onto something and turn customers away.
Im very very disappointed with the price I was sold a item . I bought a airtower 1 Blackburn and got home and looked the price of it up to see what kind of deal that I had got ,but found out that I paid $24 for it and thats what it cost new. I call and talk with the manager ask him a few questions about how do the come up with the pricing for items and he was very disrespectful with me on the phone. Didnt look to be treated like that ,but guess I know who Im dealing with now. I want all other customers to be eyeful on prices there
They actually have shoes for bigger feet! Vans, converse all the thrift gold finds. One of my favorite shops in Dallas just because they really have good yet selective inventory. They don’t just throw everything on a hanger but they aren’t a boutique either. Love it.
This is the only place I donate any clothes or home items I no longer need. All profits go to HIV Aids research and help others in our community pay for medications they can not afford. Its also a great shop to find items that you might also otherwise want to buy.
Very very bad ! I came with some friends and we were treated really badly . We were asked to leave after one of us did not have our passports because he was visiting from Russia. he is 30. We went to the store across the street skivis and when we came back with IDs the bald guy in the store screamed at us . Skivis is better and more friendly
Very cool thrift stores thats very clean and friendly staff. I also like that they have a pharmacy and free STD clinic located in the store, most definitely a one stop shop. I love how they sorry the community.
What a groovy thrift store! Always fun vibes, people are friendly and some cool and unique finds! It also has resources for std testing in the thrift store so a one stop shop for some folks! 💜
Donated a nice leather sofa and two chairs, the morons they set to collect it almost destroyed my front door, by ramming the furniture through, instead of guiding it correctly, um, you know, the way it was brought in!!! Fist and last time donating anything to these clowns. This donation will cost me around $300!!!
Tristan and Michael are the bestttt!!!! Love love love them! So sweet, first time there and everything was perfect. Told me about the sale, chatted with them and laughed all the time there! Devastatingly honest opinion, yet delivered in a friendly way! Lol!
Another great find. They just expanded...lots of second-hand used and new clothing and homewares. I purchased a couple of suits there (Ralph Lauren and Boss) that were too cheap to pass up! Large mens selection, friendly staff, and a good cause.
For a good cause! They had their testing upstairs in secluded area.I went to thrift shop around and actually came out with a couple things w hardly any wear on them— picture frames/glass wear.
Not always a great selection of stuff, but definitely better prices then most Dallas thrift stores. Great furniture deals as they have half price furniture a lot. Very friendly staff.
I like the idea of the place and was able to find a possible Halloween costume. I was a little underwhelmed by the selection. Hopefully, we can get more people to donate to this awesome cause and create an even more awesome store.
I love thrift stores this is literally the best of the best great selection on mens clothes ( you know its hard to find good mens clothes at thrift stores ) the clothes selection is great and at very affordable prices they have also a great selection of other stuff decorations house stuff furniture dvds and more and i love the clinic inside and the free condoms and the employees are always smiling and very nice and helpful again its hard to find a perfect thrift store but this one is
I just love going to Out of the Closet! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, theres always great finds and most importantly, every purchase benefits a wonderful cause. What else could you ask for?
A genuine thrift shop. Not like Buffalo Exchange or Platos Closet. This place is priced accordingly. They also offer free HIV/std testing which is awesome given the location.
Great staff, awesome sales, and good merchandise. Ive been several times and have had a great experience every time!
I live in the area, this place is clean with friendly staff. I have found good things there. Would like to see more furniture there.
I always come home with good buys from here, but I swear they’d sell LOTS more if they’d sort the clothes by SIZE. Tossed salad is great, just not when it comes to displaying retail clothes.
I make sure I take care of my body. I will send a mfer here fast to go get tested 😆. I love the place though 💯💪🏾💙
A great place to donate items. They bring a truck to take your items if enough items and the driver and the helper were very friendly. Plus this organization helps the community.
Very friendly atmosphere, very professional and they represent a great cause. Highly recommend if you want to get checked out. Its better to know than to wonder.
So happy to have found this place!! It’s clean and organized, the staff is absolutely wonderful and the profits go back into the community for an excellent worthy cause.
Thought this place was great until my money was stolen during the 40 seconds it took for me to retrieve my phone. Was the last customer, doors were locked. Just me & 3 employees.
Very nice staff free hiv testing also AMAZING PRICES!!! You have to come and visit. its the best I promise .
Lovely thrift shop with excellent frontline staff for HIV prevention.
This store inspires me to by myself. What a great experience and the guy behind the counter was good looking and really nice
Great friendly and clean. Lab tech was a bit rude and short when drawing my blood maybe she was having a bad day but all and all great establishment
This place is amazing. They offer free testing and all of the store proceeds go to a great cause. I love it!
Parking sucks but very cute place ! Love the environment and the people, it was a cultural reset fromSomeone that comes from a small republican town 🙄
Love this place we always finds stuff we don’t need but get just in case we do, love the people who work there and it’s always clean and all, for deals go there they always have them.
Its the place to be...to go too for Second hand merchandise at a great price...Very reasonable prices from name brand clothing and name brand shoesTo furniture...
Love this place, not just for the clothes but for the work they do for the LGBTQ COMMUNITY,
Staff is always friendly and I usually can find a decent bargain or 10... So glad the funds go back into the community!
This store is great! Everything about it from the staff to the inventory they have on the shelf. Prices really great!
I love the way they treat people there and they very cheap and the things that I got I got a big deal out of it thank you out of the closet
Everyone was really friendly and nice. The music choice A1, and they have amazing merchandise! 😆😆👍
Great selection, no sales assistant hovering over you, yet attentive if needed. Friendly sales assistant.
Great place you can get great bargains get your HIV test and help the cause all in one place.
Loved it! Good selection, great stuff. Social commitment completes it

The people here are SO helpful and friendly. Was in and out in 15 minutes and felt so satisfied when I left. Thank you!!
Always a great selection of consignment items available, and very friendly staff.
Great clothing at awesome prices. Friendly staff and neat store.
I felt like I was bothering them with simple questions. Did not get a good vibe.
Lots of clothing items in good conditions. Absolutely love this store!
Great selection of items at a reasonable price. All going to a good cause.

They were quick and nice

Awesome place!!
The store is no longer the same, it is poorly arranged, the place feels dirty,Before I had a different manager, and he had very good taste in making the store lookThe mannequins had beautiful clothes and the decoration of the furniture showed off lamps and anything else that was on display.
Good store to get second-hand items at very good prices... Clothing, footwear, decoration and more...!
