This was a horrible experience. The tag fell off the shorts when I tried them on over the shorts I was wearing, because they have no fitting room. The tag fell off as I was trying them on and I handed both shorts and tag to cashier and told him what happened and he wouldn’t sell me the shorts. What the? Out of the closet should get FITTING ROOMS or better tagging. then and I wouldn’t have to try them on over my shorts! Do not go here. Not worth your time.
Walter is Amazing I found out about the free.HIV, testing and thought Id give a shot.He made me feel so comfortable.I was a little nervous and he eased my anxiety. He made me feel better and I came out negative..walter is doing an amazing job saving lives and if youre ever in or in this area come show them some love cause they deserve it .. shout out to everyone else the shop is organized and unbeatable prices
Its always nice coming to the Out of the Closet store. Great clothes at great prices and even furniture. Its always an adventure seeing what other stuff they have, as what they sell is based on donations. Its also a great site to get tested for HIV. Its free and you often get a free gift with your results. Also, great music is always playing thanks to the super nice staff! All-around great store.
Two stars only because I like the hours of operations for donations and it was easy and quick but also only two stars because the person taking donations was un-personable, seemed like they didn’t want to be there or want to accept donations. It’s understandable for having rules of what items can be donated, but don’t snarl in a turn off-ish way. A simple thank you but we can’t accept this will suffice plus a thank you for donating the items that were accepted should be culture if you want people to choose you when wanting to donate.
Not sure who’s the manger here but you should tell your employees not to assume because someone’s black they don’t speak Spanish because I knew everything they were saying and they were talking horribly about me and my friends in spanish. Not sure their names but it was two males, not a good look for your establishment.
The Long Beach location pulled a bad move. I found a $5 bracelet that they put out today 12/3 that was a carved bone bracelet with elephants. I gave it to the cash register person to hold, he liked it stating he would buy it and started showing other employees the bracelete. Later that employees comes to me and says they are not going to sell it because they say its ivory....its not. I spoke with the managers who stated they needed to tested it, I asked them to test it then she said she didnt have the equipment. I then asked them how do they know it ivory? She stated she didnt know. I told them that was a bad move....I deal in Antiques its not even a old piece and definitely not ivory, just a nice carved piece of plastic. I feel had the cashier register guy not blab and show it to other employees I would of gotten a piece that DID have some Silver. Caution when dealing with the LB location. Why put something out if you dont have the equipment to test. Lets see if the reach out to me at Andees Vintage, Antiques in Bellflower to make this right, I can be reached at the 8887 #.
Although I didn’t purchase anything from the clothing portion, I went and got tested. Matthew was amazing! Very knowledgeable and charming. And the market is great as I did purchase some items while getting tested. 10 out of 10 top tier place!
Hello AHF,Every time I have been to Out of the Closet Hollywood, I am treated rudely and disrespectfully by staff in the clothing store. This has been pretty consistent for over a year. I also visit the West Hollywood location and have never had an unpleasant experience there.
My Son and I were there Saturday and their employee Anthony was such a delightful person to come across! As he was stocking the store he was very helpful and happy to do so! The store was very organized and tidy. With great employees like Anthony Out Of The Closet will continue to remain in business for many years to come! Customer care is always important, and as consumers we have many options on where to buy our merchandise and other goods. Personally I enjoy the entire experience of shopping where I feel that the store has employees who are helpful and friendly. Anthony is one of those types of employees who is an asset to their company. Out Of The Closet is a great place to shop and find a great deal on items you may not find elsewhere!😁👍
No fitting rooms. Rude cashiers. I’m not spending $15 on jeans that I can’t put on.Ridiculously overpriced. A chintzy skirt from Shein for $10? No thanks. Purse with scratches all over it for $17? Bye. Going back to Salvation Army.
Ive been multiple times, both to donate and to shop and Im done. The staff is consistently rude (the guy taking donations didnt like what I brought and cursed at me) and I always leave in a bad mood 😡The selection of items is usually fun but the prices tend to be high, theres no fitting room, and the return policy is pathetic-- you can ONLY exchange what you bought for another item of the same price (NO refunds, NO store credit) and it has to be at the SAME store (not one of the many OOTC locations in LA) and the window in which to do so is VERY small. Ridiculous.Ill be doing my thrift store shopping at Goodwill from now on.
Love the mission, love the store, love the selection, love the prices. I dont live out here, but if I did, this would be a regular stop. Got a Blu-ray, a DVD, an awesome CD, and a LaserDisc for $7. Absolutely rockin.Love you guys!
This has always been a favorite place to shop. I love a good treasure hunt and the proceeds go to AIDS research and helping AIDS patients get medicine they otherwise couldnt afford. They also offer free HIV testing. However, the manager ( grey hair and middle aged , didnt catch his name), is very snarky and not very well versed in the art of customer service. There was an item marked with 2 prices, he refused to sell it at the lower price...( the difference was less than $2, I was spending close to $50) It wasnt even the fact that he refused, it was how he went about it. This kind of rude treatment could cost the charity much more than the $2 he was quibbling about in terms of my future business. Food for thought for the upper management.
I actually love this place, especially because its so discreet and it helps you maintain your anonymity. You could easily be going there just to do some shopping for some Thrift Shop clothing, or you can go there and get rapid testing. The rapid testing is completely discreet, and no one will even see you when you disappear off of the floor to go and get it done. Obviously, rapid testing is nothing to be ashamed of and everyone should do it, but some people just are and if you are one of those people, fear no more.I went in, got my testing done, and I was out of there in less than 10 minutes.
I prefer this location over the one by my house in Weho! I feel as though the prices are pretty good and the items are always unique and pretty. This is the only thrift store I go to
Good Finds here are VERY hit & Miss, you really need to know your prices because they are often incredibly overpriced (my last visit they had a used IKEA storage box that was priced three times the price IKEA sells it new) The real negative of this location is the staff which are REALLY rude and clearly dont enjoy working there. When Im on the fence about buying something here I actually factor in how much I really want to have to deal with staff at the register because being rung up here always leaves me in a bad mood because they are so difficult to deal with.
I was sad to see the hardware/garden store go but was excited to see Out of The Closet coming. This one feels differently, management appears oblivious and staff runs it like a big box store. Here’s an example, they haggled with a client over pricing, there was 2 price tags, $6 and $8 on a book. They had to go to the back to ask “management” then came back and said it was $8. This is a nonprofit serving the community, what a sham!
Fair prices for its location as far as the thrifting part. I havent been tested but I witnessed interaction between staff & people coming in, it was very comfortable & a non judgemental encounter. They looked happy to be there.
First time visit, interesting mix of second hand merchandise. The prices were high for me, and a few of the clothing items looked as if they were just worn. Didnt purchase anything, just looked.
Great thrift shop. Some of the money spent here is gon be donated to community with HIV/AIDs. (If my memory is correct)Many clothes here are cheap, having wide variety of it.
This supports a major political powerhouse. The Foundation actually makes a ton of money in their pharmacies and use it NOT to fund medical research but to push political agendas that make no sense. Condom use in the porn industry is not the issue here. Nor are there rampant HIV infections occurring here anyway. Just do your research and decide if you want your support here.
Out of the Closet is AHFs thrift store. As such, an AHF Pharmacy is attached and is part of the overall experience. The thrift store itself is fairly large at this location. They have a wide variety of previously used merchandise on display to include a wide range of clothing items to furniture. If you have ever been to a Goodwill thrift store then you will find Out of the Closet to be very similar. They are always on the lookout for more donations so if you have used clothes that no longer fit or furniture that no longer fits in your homes motife, then bring them on by and donate to a good cause. Ninety six cents of every dollar spent at their stores goes directly into the care of people with HIV. AHF never turns away anyone because they do not have an ability to pay for health services and you can feel good about donating to an organization with such a noble cause.
Loved it!!! such a warm, welcoming store 🌈 excellent bargain on three delightful items- my new favourite clothing that i own! Cowboy boots AND a plaid kilt??? I’m about to square dance whilst playing bagpipes 🤠 thank you!! 🏳️🌈:)
My favorite location and my favorite guy Walter! Hes the best
Accepting donations at back entrance with kind helpful greeter at 4905 Hollywood Blvd at Edgemont. Have to say the last couple times they have turned away items that the Goodwill down the street at 4575 Hollywood Blvd was happy to accept. For furniture or unused paint and home supplies bring it Habitat For Humanity on La Brea.
Love this store very polite and friendly employees the grand opening day was a success the caterers had the most amazing food and the lady D.J. was the best kept the beats flowing seamless and Santa photos were the perk of the day
Walked in; walked out. Had nothing. Gone here several times in hopes to find something. Nope. I will stick to the Long Beach one. I go in hopes I will find this great dress or shoes. Im sure Im stereotyping but Im looking for like drag gueen clothes. The glamorous bling. Beautiful stage dresses, bags, shoes. Its hard to find clothes that fit a 6 foot tall woman. I guess Im looking in the wrong place.I would have given more stars but no one was even there to greet us or ask if we needed help. She was playing with the music on her phone.
Saw many name brand clothing and shoes(got some brand new platform vans for 12$) so most things are about 8.00 up they do have a section of 1$ items ..Very cleaned up it seemed and had some good furniture pieces
Nothing special, it’s nothing like Goodwill, but overall is ok.
Its still new. Lots of vintage items $10-20. They also sell furniture, shoes, accessories, and take donations. Its a hit and miss for many of the items. It could be neat and eccentric, or really just for your grandma type clothes or fitting.
Allbad.com at your stir today. Harrison aka the guy with the green hair absolutely couldnt be any rude unhelpful and has no clue what integrity means... We all have challenging day but come on the store not only missed out on sales but now I will no longer support the image. What some sleep GREEN HAIRED BOY You are definitely bad for buiness...
Staff is very kind. Since in Hollywood this location is pretty picked over. Theyre free hiv testing is amazing and the hired help are the nicest people in the world
The donation times aren’t on their automated answering message. Donations close 30 minutes before the store closes. Add the donation times to your automated answering message.
I was surprised to find Cole Haan wingtip shoes barely worn for 30.00 and Polo button down shirts for like 15.00. Such a nice store with awesome deals.
Its going to be a fun store to shop at but its hit or miss on certain days you go and you can find several items while other times you come and cant find a single thing I find the same problem at out of the closet as I do with most used clothing stores is that theres not merchandise well its not packaged well and its difficult to find what youre looking for having said all that its still a very inexpensive way to purchase clothing
For some reason they always have a good book collection here and theyre cheap. I just recently found an amazing book with great story. It was called letter to my papi chulo. I dont usually go for the erotica stories but wow this one blew me away figuratively speaking. The raunchy aspects of modern Hispanic love entices your senses. They challenge of being from a rival gang from North hollywood and east los angeles. And this couple could only have sex thru letters.
Nice mens suits, CDs and free HIV Test
I went in for an hiv test and I was rlly nervious cuz it had been awhile but the Lady was very nice and helped calm me down. The test was quick
Extremely rude!!! Retraining of the entire staff in the art of customer service is needed ASAP. Deplorable attitudes despite the fact that they operate on donations. Save yourself a headache and shop elsewhere. Not worth the hassle.
Amazing place. Great finds. Seriously take your time and go through the racks you might find a dozen old navy and then come uo on a 400 peice.
Love the things this place does for the community! Came here for HIV testing and it was an easy breeze. Its phenomenal that they give easy access to people who need resources
The employees at Out of the Closet are always cordial. They have work to do. You can’t expect to be waited on. You can’t be privileged all the time!
Its a nice store but the selection is slime. Prices were right. But nothing for the big and tall guy.
I thought they just closed their sunset location but turns out they just moved into a much nicer place! Looks awesome! I love shopping here.
U r right about where the money goesAsk about the old spaghetti factory high rise building they built only 3 b slapped w/no occupancy permit since they basically just kept the entrance as preservation. Lol now its there empty.
No dressing rooms:Someone stole my wallet while I was trying in pants and looked away for a moment.I won’t be back here.
Decent priced thrift store for a great cause and they also have services to help people with free Sti testing!
Nice thrift shop for the alternative lifestyle people choose to lead. I find it weird, however, that they offer free HIV tests inside as well
Everyone was pretty cool. They seem a Lil shy for some reason but the pharmacy people are cool as hell
Collection of resale items and clothes is anemic. But they always have good tunes on the speaker system and the staff is courteous and friendly.
This place is awesome! Such a great store and ample parking. I will definitely be visiting again.
Great people. Great selections. Great cause. Thanks. Jeff Carter. 9/1/21
If you dont mind searching, theres a lot here - especially around Halloween. A nice selection if youre putting together a costume.
Rapid free no wait HIV and syphilis testing. Didnt shop but looked like good selection.
I wish I could try on the items before I purchase… so weird to not have any changing rooms
Found china I collect. The clerk wrapped them very carefully without my even asking.
Really nice staff. They got cool items and ok prices.
Lots of stuff marked at a higher price than it was originally sold for, from the cheapest retailers. No customer bathroom.
Friendly staff. Good selection and great prices!
Too expensive not enuff variety of items. I have watched them discard items to the trash even though these items can be sold.
Smaller than expected for clothing section but had an interesting mix of womens clothes.
Staff is always nice and I can usually find something that I need at a great price
Friendly, a real gem, mostly small, petite sizes, 12 to 4, but hey, cheap
I bought some really cute outfits there for a really great price.
Too expensive! Customer service sucks. Just ok place.
If you are looking for extravagant articles or just useful stuff, a good place to visit in Hollywood.
Not a lot of selection and they have a lot of memorabilia and they KNOW what its worth
I leave empty handed from this out of the closet, but I do find something its very good.
Okay place. Definitely could use a bigger store
Great prices excellent condition social distancing
Nice shoe selection be safe get tested
Cool selection of clothes and some times some gems
This has become a greedy charity.
No trying on. No returns. Dollar racks.
Dirty. Disorganized. Over priced donations
Nice staff clean and inexpensive
