I went to Dr. Fogelson after a failed surgery (by a different surgeon) 8 months prior, and was met with incredible bedside understanding, and even more incredible results. After suffering from extensive endometriosis, I felt miserable and absent from my own life, with so little hope after the previous failed surgery. Dr. Fogelson was so easy to talk to while still communicating some hard truths about my condition. He really understands the burden this disease carries, and I felt so heard after being brushed aside by previous healthcare providers. My surgery was quickly scheduled, and quickly executed. The entire staff I came into contact with were an absolute joy, and did everything they could to make my experience as comfortable as possible. I felt relief from my endometriosis about 2-3 months post op, and I’ve never looked back. I feel as I imagine the average person feels: minor period pains that can be easily solved with a Tylenol. After the surgery, I was recommended pelvic floor PT Dr. Nari Clemons, who built on the amazing surgical results produced by Dr. Fogelson, and helped me heal in a way to ensure the risk of pain returning was minimal. Using a mixed approach of technical deep tissue work and visceral work, Nari was able to achieve exceptional and long lasting results, and I remain pain free and amazing by her healing skills.Dr. Fogelson and his team are experts and miracle workers, and I cannot express in words how grateful I am to them. I have my life back, and I have myself back.
There arent enough words to describe how amazing and wonderful Dr. Fogelson and his team are. I had been suffering for nearly a decade and in one appointment Dr. Fogelson diagnosed the issue and I was scheduled for surgery. I had an absolute dream recovery after surgery and I know that it is because of Dr. Fogelsons superior surgical skills. He listened to me and helped me every step of the way. His office and surgical staff are also top notch, especially Lacey and Kari who went above and beyond for me. If I could give all of them ten stars I would. Your surgeon matters and you will be in the absolute best hands with Dr. Fogelson. I cannot recommend him enough!
After suffering from chronic gut issues for over a decade, I finally found a pelvic floor PT, Dr. Nari Clemons, who identified endometriosis is what I was likely experiencing and she referred me to Dr. Fogelson. I didn’t have the typical endo symptoms so it took a big leap of faith to undergo the laparoscopy but I’m so glad I did. Dr. Fogelson is an amazing surgeon both because of his excision skills but also his bedside manner - which we know can be hard to find in a surgeon. Dr. Fogelson got me on the path to healing and I firmly believe my work with Dr. Nari Clemons helped me maintain surgical outcomes over two years later. She has extensive knowledge about endometriosis and offers a unique but extremely effective treatment protocol through her highly technical visceral massage, manual skills and lifestyle recommendations. I highly recommend this team if you are suspicious of endometriosis.
I am so very thankful for the exceptional care and knowledge of Dr. Mohling! After a failed surgery with my general Obgyn 6 months before I was more miserable than ever. I saw 7 other doctors locally for consultations and realized they were unable to truly help me. At that point I started to look for a specialist even if I had to travel. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Mohling through both icarebetter and Nancy’s nook. After reading about her I felt confident that she was the kind of surgeon I needed. When I met her via a zoom consultation I knew she was the doctor for me and it was further confirmed when I met her in person a few days later. Upon meeting her in person, her caring and kind personality put me at ease instantly. She performed the most thorough medical history and physical exam I had ever received, including performing an ultrasound on me herself. She ordered an MRI for further surgery planning. Everything confirmed stage 4 endometriosis with bowel involvement. From this point it took sometime to schedule surgery as her services were in high demand and let me tell you for good reason. My surgery ended up being 8hrs but thanks to her meticulous care, skill and multidisciplinary team she was able to remove this disease that had ravaged my body and had left me in severe daily pain. I am 6 weeks out from my surgery and feel like a new person. I am no longer living in constant pain (have not had to take any pain meds since my first week post surgery, before surgery I was living on ibuprofen and Tylenol just to function a little). I am so very thankful for Dr. Mohling, she was an answer to prayers. She is one of the most caring, down to earth, wonderful doctors you could ever meet. She truly wants to help you feel better and she has the advanced training and experience to do so. Her care was well worth the wait and travel!
I recently had the privilege to see Dr. Mohling, and I couldn’t recommend her enough. If you are looking for the type of care that almost doesnt exist, you need to see her. Every surgical technique and pathological finding was directly correlated to my symptoms. It’s only been a week, and I can tell she improved my quality of life forever.Dr. Mohling is a very accomplished professional and has developed extensive knowledge about the disease and exceptional surgical skills. She is also empathetic and very kind. I will never forget she stayed with me while I went to sleep and that I needed minimal pain management because of her unique anesthesia technique.I probably had the most comprehensive exam of my life at her office. Even when we met over Zoom for a complimentary consultation to discuss my case, she reserved time for me and treated me like a person. She listened to my story and reviewed my record in detail.Lacey was spectacular; she went above and beyond and was proactive and ingenious to make sure my surgery didn’t get canceled for reasons outside their control. Everything was so simple. I think we spoke a couple of times, and she handled everything else and booked all my appointments in advance.Thank you for changing my life.
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Fogelson! I suffered 10 years from an Abdominal Endometrioma that came from a caesarean section. After 3 surgeries with 3 different in network surgeons, I still experienced excruciating pain before , during , and after cycles that affected my quality of life! I researched and found Dr. Fogelson years ago as being an expert in everything endometriosis and decided to make the trip from Virginia to Portland, Oregon in February 2023. I am proud to say the surgery was successful and I am pain free! I truly feel like a new person. Dr. Fogelson is such a lifesaver, very knowledgable , caring, incredible bedside manner, etc. I can’t thank him enough for making my 10 year problem go completely away!
I flew across the country and paid out of pocket to see Dr. Fogelson. It was worth every penny. I am one of those unique cases that did not see a lot of improvement initially in the first 1-2 years post excision, but I can now say after 3-4 years that my life has changed largely because of my surgery with Dr. Fogelson. I am doing better than I could have ever imagined. I don’t even need Tylenol to manage my pain and I can live a more full life because of it. Not everyone experiences healing and improvement on the same timeline, but my endometrial excision surgery with Dr. Fogelson was so well worth it.
I would recommend Dr. Fogelson to anyone needing answers and havent found them with other doctors. I suffered for years and it was him who changed my life for the better.
I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Fogelson and his team to anyone who has endometriosis, adenomysois, or pelvic pain. He is my third endometriosis surgeon, and the only one I would return to if I need another surgery. He somehow manages to approach this incredibly complicated disease with both confidence and humility. He knows exactly what he’s capable of, and when he needs to bring in a second surgeon for areas outside of his expertise. I think I had a fairly complicated case, but it was just another day at the office for Dr. Fogelson, and I mean that in the best way possible. Thank you Dr. Fogelson for dedicating your career to endometriosis, I am really grateful for you.Milissa, the office manager, really fought to get my surgery scheduled when my in network hospitals weren’t scheduling elective surgeries. She was very patient with all the calls I made to the office when I was so desperate. Thank you, Milissa, for working so hard, you really made a difference for me!For patients, I would suggest watching all the video messages he has on his website before your appointment, especially the ones about why he is out of network and how to tell your story to your doctor so you can optimize your appointment time and get a sense for his personality. He is very honest and straightforward and while I think these are the exact traits you want in your surgeon, I also think it’s helpful to get a sense of that beforehand. My heart goes out to you if you’re seeking an endometriosis surgeon, it’s a devastating disease, but I think you’ve come to the right place.
Overall, a 10/10 experience. I’m so, so grateful for Dr. Fogelson. He listens. He‘s knowledgeable about all things pelvic (endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, you name it). He follows up and never leaves you hanging. Best of all, he can perform often complex surgeries that are required to remove Endometriosis at its root.Dr. Fogelson never once doubted my symptoms, questioned my story or pain. Conversing with him was/is SO refreshing after being brushed aside by SO many doctors and nurses over the years.I had endometriosis excision surgery in his Portland office September 2018. Dr. Fogelson and his team removed endometrioma from both ovaries, lesions and adhesions that were on my bladder, rectum, outside of my uterus, and... gosh, you-name-it. In the end he diagnosed me as having endo 2-3. It was a 3.5 hour surgery I was *terrified* to undergo, especially since my last surgery was an absolute nightmare in so many ways. But looking back I really was in the best, most capable hands. And now I feel a lot better.Honest talk - I still have some pain, but the *significant* reduction in my pain levels has been worth it (I started IVF meds shortly after my excision which has “undone” some of the work Dr. Fogelson did due to the high doses of estrogen).I’m 39 and struggled with symptoms from Endometriosis for 25 years. It’s an enigmatic disease that kept me from enjoying my life and made it hard to work. Lack of energy, torturous periods, deep stabbing pain while eliminating. These were the hallmarks of my life. Now I work the entire day without collapsing into a heap when I get home. There is joy in my life again.Having a high-caliber pelvic surgeon like him in Portland and the Pacific NW is a game-changer. If you are experiencing *anything* in the pelvic region I would just urge you to go see him. There are few doctors as knowledgeable as him in the entire country.Dr. Fogelson was genuinely concerned for my comfort and long-term outcome. In fact, I now see him as my regular GYN because he really knows his stuff! I have no doubt he will treat you the same. Were there any downfalls? A few tiny things. I found billing to be a bit confusing, but to be fair his office was transitioning into a new system right when I became a patient. Dr. Fogelson can be quite matter-of-fact when delivering certain bits of information that can be hard to digest. I guess I prefer things sugar coated? For me, when he said my ovaries might be too diseased to be able to become pregnant without an egg donor, I was upset for weeks. He also said that IVF drugs would likely make my endo symptoms worse. Those were hard to hear but I needed to hear them. Another thing, if you have a light stomach you might consider not reviewing your photo/video footage post-surgery. Mine was gruesome. But truly, my comments aren’t true downfalls as much as observations. He and his office staff are truly wonderful (thank you, Milissa)!!!P.S. if you haven’t discovered Nancy’s Nook on FaceBook, check out all the resources there, including a list of vetted surgeons like Dr. Fogelson.UPDATE: Any residual pain I had after surgery with Dr. Fogelson COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED when I started seeing Nari Clemons at Portland Pelvic Therapy — she has magic hands. Do look her up. Worth every dime. Oh, and Dr. Fogelson was right about me needing to work with an egg donor to conceive a child. We welcomed a baby in 2021.
Dr. Fogelson and his practice have completely changed my quality of life for the best. My journey seeking relief from pelvic pain was long and included temporary relief from a previous laparoscopic endo removal and myomectomy. When that relief was gone, I sought Dr. Fogelson based on reviews and I’m happy to say it was one of the BEST decisions I’ve made in my LIFE! Very transparent, knowledge, and overall a simply phenomenal doctor.
I am now three-months post-op from my surgery with Dr Nicholas Fogelson This will be a long review, but in brief, I can’t recommend Dr Fogelson and his team highly enough! To provide a bit of background, I had years of pain, seemingly unconnected symptoms and tests, and years of feeling let down and dismissed by doctors who didnt have the combination of the right knowledge, skills, patience, time, and interest to help. After two failed surgeries (one with a general gyn and one by an endometriosis expert), I was desperate for help and didnt know where to turn. For several reasons, including his experience in neuropelveology, I chose to contact Dr Fogelson to get his opinion. I started with his free consult; his assistant, Milissa, booked me in quickly, and Dr Fogelson was very generous with his time and expertise. From the very beginning, what I appreciated most about Dr Fogelson was that he seemed really interested, as if he was actually curious about what was going on himself and wanted to understand and solve the puzzle, as well as help me. He explained what he could and was honest about what he couldn’t. Even when he wasn’t certain about the cause of some of my symptoms, he believed me, and he helped me believe myself.Dr Fogelson said he would do all he could to help, and he went above and beyond to get as much information as he could, then he helped me make the most informed choice possible. Milissa also did an amazing job booking me in for appointments and surgery to fit with the time difference and my travel plans, and she and Dr Fogelson were patient with my many emails, always providing thoughtful answers to my many questions. In spite of all of the time that Dr Fogelson had put into helping me, I never felt pressured to go ahead with surgery. I knew he had my best interests at heart, and I felt in control. On the day of surgery, all the staff at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital were kind and thorough, and Dr Fogelson continued to help me feel as comfortable as possible.Unlike my previous experiences of general anaesthesia, I woke up and came around quickly and easily. I didn’t feel sick or sleepy, and I was able to get up and use the toilet almost immediately without any trouble. Dr Fogelson had spoken with my husband and explained everything in detail (including calling to update him halfway through the operation). And, even though my surgery was much longer than planned (because Dr Fogelson was able to find and treat far more endometriosis and adhesions than expected), I was cleared to leave soon after waking up. I was so relieved, but the quality and kindness of the post-op care also made such a differenceI cannot describe the relief I felt to hear what Dr Fogelson had found and fixed AND to be able to leave the hospital the same day and to feel as well as I did. I couldn’t walk very far, and laughing and coughing hurt, but overall, I already felt better than I had before surgery. I spent a few days recovering at a hotel with my husband and my mom, who had travelled with me, and it felt more like a vacation than a recovery from major surgery. In spite of how well I felt, a few questions came up, and I was able to text or call Dr Fogelson and got immediate replies.Recovery from major surgery is certainly not smooth and linear, but at every step, I have been amazed at how much better I feel and how much smoother this recovery has been than the last one. This time, the trajectory of progress is 100% clear, in spite of the bumps along the way. I have also been so thankful that I can easily contact Dr Fogelson with any questions that come up, and he is always quick to respond with thoughtful and considered answers or more questions to be sure he gives the best possible advice. At three months post-op, I am back to most of my usual activities, and I am excited about the future. I can’t thank Dr Fogelson and his team enough for that.If you have endometriosis or suspect you might, I don’t think there could be anyone better to help.
Dr. Fogelson and his entire team are amazing. I had a complicated case needing urgent surgery and they went above and beyond to help me. They really care about their patients and are dedicated to helping them. My pain and symptoms have improved drastically since surgery. I am forever grateful to them!
Dr. Fogelson ia a true advocate of womens right to bodily autonomy, willing to sterilize regardless of marital status, ANY age, kids or no kids. He gave me my life back when I was experiencing crippling endometriosis symptoms and sterilized me at the same time :)If youre passing out on the floor of your bathroom from pain and nausea or can feel your ovary with every step you take, give him a call, Im glad I did!
I saw Dr. Fogelson for the removal of abdominal wall endometriosis in March. He was professional and to the point about the surgery, it’s benefits and potential complications. The operating room staff actually wiped tears from my eyes before the surgery and offered me a bedside manner that was bar none. The Legacy staff was the most empathetic professionals I’ve ever seen (I used to work in an E.R. and I’ve seen a lot of jaded healthcare workers). I’m thankful that Dr. Fogelson had the confidence to tackle my case because I’d been told by other surgeons that they wouldn’t recommend removing the A.W.E. The removal has quite literally changed my life. I have some nerve pain now, but it’s nothing compared to the deep, gnawing pain the endo tumor gave me. I’m smiling more, less tired, and feel way better pain wise than I have in years. Thank you Dr. Fogelson, staff, and Legacy Health for what you do! I hope you continue to pioneer the pathway for endometriosis treatment!
Dr. Fogelson is great! After having progressive pelvic pain for a while that was getting worse earlier this year and my local obgyn not helping at all... I found Dr Fogelson through Nancys Nook. I live in rural Nevada, and it was worth every penny and time traveling to get the quality of help that he provides. From the first time I reached out to his office, to the time of surgery... was about 6 months. He was amazing and extremely knowledgeable. I especially respected the fact that he set clear and realistic expectations for me. If you think or know you have endometriosis and are looking for the right doctor/surgeon, reach out to Northwest Endometriosis now! You absolutely will not regret it.
I had very crippling endometriosis pain and working with Dr Fogelson and his team 4 years ago was a fantastic experience. I still experience some endo discomfort but it is DRAMATICALLY reduced from what I used to experience prior to my surgery, and it can be managed with pelvic floor physical therapy. My quality of life is much better and I’m so grateful that I could work with Dr. Fogelson!
I returned to Dr. Fogelson again after 10 months of extreme pelvic pain that, again, my local providers either couldn’t or wouldn’t help me with. Almost three years ago I found him after years of searching—I had what turned out to be a profound case of surgical abdominal adhesions that shredded my reproductive organs, nearly obstructed my bowels, & had encased major nerves. Due to the excessive nature of adhesions, we were concerned that they had reformed. On August 17, he went back in & discovered a few adhesions squeezing my bowels, but more importantly he found & took out two rare complications of the hysterectomy & adhesiolysis he previously performed: ovarian remnant syndrome & an ovarian torsion. Both were likely the culprits of most of my pain & both were surrounded by bleeding cysts. Dr Fogelson said he “hardly did anything “ compared to last time & is confident this surgery will be the last. I was so scared I would have to keep having a clean out every few years, but clearly his advanced surgical techniques are wildly successful!! Dr. Fogelson is so incredibly humble, kind, funny, generous & compassionate—No one else will ever touch my belly, if it ever needs to happen. He helped me without question when no one else would, and just like last time, I got to him just before disaster struck. Dr. Fogelson is truly my guardian angel & I highly recommend him for all complex female pelvic issues. I promise that he won’t let you down!
Prior to surgery with Dr. Fogelson, my life was miserable. I was in constant pain, couldnt exercise, had trouble sleeping, couldnt sit without pain, and was taking high doses of nerve pain meds. I had tried physical therapy, chiropractors, acupuncture, massage, steroid injections- pretty much everything. Dr. Fogelson gave me my life back! He performed surgery and was the first doctor in 3 years to actually give me a diagnosis for my pain. I am his biggest fan! Would highly recommend him to anyone experiencing nerve pain.
I would 100% recommend calling Dr. Fogelson if you think you might have endometriosis, some other source of pelvic pain, or are unsatisfied with your current care for these conditions. He offers generous free case reviews and is very kind with his time and expertise. Ive had many horrible experiences, including well over a decade of being ignored and misdiagnosed), plus multiple bad surgeries. I am 33 years old, and Dr. Fogelson is the first doctor since I was 19 years old and began seeking help to hear me, know what to do, and provide the right care.Dr. Fogelsons surgery has changed my life. This was absolutely the most positive medical experience I’ve ever had. I don’t know if I will need further endometriosis treatment, but if I do, I will not be going to anyone else!
Dr. Shanti Mohling, Lacey her assistant in office, and the Good Samaritan Hospital team were absolutely amazing. Dr. Mohling is so patient, detailed, and above all, the sweetest surgeon I have ever met. From the first initial call I had with her, you can sense her level of interest and care she has for her patients. As for Lacey, she is with you every step of the way, is the most helpful, and facilitates things for surgery as far as scheduling and document preparation. I travelled to receive Excision surgery, and with this care team, I would do it over again. I am beyond grateful for them, thank you Dr. Mohling! 2 weeks out from surgery and I feel so well!
Im only about a month post surgery with Dr. Fogelson but I already feel so amazing. I had previous surgeries for endometriosis including a hysterectomy a year ago. I can tell this time is different. Rigth after surgery it felt like an instant relief. I have suffered since I was a teenager. I am now 32. For the first time in my life I am pain free. I feel like my depression and anxiety is instantly gone. I have never known life with out pain and the constant ache of cramps. I am so thankful for Dr. Fogelson and his team. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me life back. You truly are an angel. I will be sending many others your way.
I recently was treated by Dr. Fogelson for stage 4 endometriosis. He has far exceeded my expectations. He was the first doctor to take my symptoms seriously. I have been living with this for many years and was always told to take birth control and I would feel better. He took his time to explain everything and I tend to be anxious person so this meant a lot to me. Days after my surgery I had concerns and he was prompt in getting back to me and made me feel like I was never wasting his time. I would recommend him to anyone who is dealing with pelvic issues. I’m still in the early stages of healing but I feel confident that he has made my life better.
In September 2018 I saw Dr. Fogelson for a laparoscopic excision of endometriosis. The results of the surgery have been nothing less than life-changing.The surgery was the culmination of more than 20 years of pain that was so intense I would sometimes faint, and would even end up in the emergency room a few times each year. Gradually, the number of days I would spend in agony tied to a heating pad on the couch increased from just a few each month to a point where every day was marked by some degree of inhibiting pain. During the last 10 years I have seen at least a dozen medical practitioners seeking a diagnosis, and trying a multitude of treatment options, including an initial laparoscopic surgery to cauterize endometrial tissue (not performed by Dr. Fogelson), which granted me only 6 weeks of pain relief.Having read extensively about the disease, I realized that my experience with this surgery was not atypical. Many women not only spend years trying to get a diagnosis, but end up returning again and again for surgery when the pain inevitably returns. Feeling like too much of my life had already been sacrificed to this disease, and frustrated with the quality of care available to me, I began searching for alternatives. From our first interaction, Dr. Fogelson treated me with respect. I felt that my health and my understanding of my condition and options were his priority. Emails were always answered quickly, and phone calls always answered or returned. In contrast with nearly every other doctor I have seen, I never felt like our conversations were mere routine. He drew insightful connections between what I said and my medical record, questioned my assumptions, and saw further than others had. He earned my total confidence before we even met.Through the exam, surgery, and recovery, I felt like Dr. Fogelson took the role of champion against not only this disease, but against hospital management, too. Whatever stood in the way of my healing he made his problem to fix. Now, every day is better than any day before surgery. I’ll never be able to thank him enough.
I had a surgery with Dr. Fogelson about two years back, and he was an incredible doctor throughout the entire process!I went because I had a lot of pains and awful periods that were paired with migraines and back pains to name a few!Dr. Fogelson was very kind and was helpful before, during and after the surgery and never left me hanging! I truly appreciated the thorough work he put in and I would recommend him to anyone who is nervous or worried about surgery! This is the place to go for great care for women with endometriosis and other gynecologic surgical conditions, they wont let you down!
Im very happy that I found Dr Nicholas Fogelson and his patient advocate Milissa through Nancys Nook Endometriosis Education on Facebook. I suffered for years with excruciatingly painful periods, spotting, painful sex, GI issues, unexplained infertility, constant low-grade nerve pain, and a complete lack of energy. Begging my other medical providers to diagnose all my issues got me nowhere.I self-referred to Dr Fogelson. Milissa helped me navigate getting my records to their office when my other provider (Dr Renee Goodreau at Mt Hood Womens Health) refused to transfer them for his review. In the 1.5 hour consult, Dr Fogelson validated and pinpointed my pain and told me the likelihood I had endometriosis was high. He found a painful cyst on my left ovary that my former GYN had missed on two ultrasounds (!), and brought up a factor I hadnt thought of: adenomyosis. He also sent me for six weeks of pelvic floor PT before and after surgery.Surgery at the Pearl SurgiCenter was a pinnacle experience. The nurses gave fantastic trauma-informed care, much appreciated because it was my first surgery and a lot was on the line physically and emotionally for me. Everyone from the anesthesiologist to the OR technicians to Dr Fogelsons assist with the surgery (Dr Rosenfield of the Pearl Womens Center) were at the top of their game and really listened to me and the family I brought with me.Dr Fogelson removed the ovarian cyst and excised endometriosis from around my bladder and a few other spots inside my pelvic cavity and freed my bowel from where it was adhered to my right pelvic sidewall. He also thoroughly checked my diaphragm and liver for signs of endo. All of the tissue he sent to pathology tested positive for endometriosis.Within 1.5 weeks I could tell the endometriosis was gone. The nerve pain in my pelvic cavity and right shoulder evaporated. I was able to sleep on my left side again without pain and pressure. My foot drop is gone. The first three cycles after surgery were quite painful but I expected this as everything was still in the acute phase of healing. Im six months out of surgery now, and I no longer suffer 5 days of pain around my period. My naturopathic doctor was able to treat my thyroid dysfunction with the inflammation from the endometriosis gone and my energy has returned.I still have pain from what I suspect is adenomyosis, but its confined to the first day of my cycle and its well-controlled by 1500mg of NSAIDs. Before I was taking 3000mg for four days a month around my period. At my four month post-surgery exam, Dr Fogelson identified and cauterized cervical ectropion which stopped my spotting completely. Words cant express how happy I am to finally have resolution for so many of my concerns.Once my husband and I are done having children, Ill return to Dr Fogelson for a hysterectomy to completely eradicate my pain. Having options and top-notch care is liberating. I didnt realize how bad the ignorance and gaslighting that endometriosis patients experience in the medical community was until I found a competent provider and came out the other side of it.If youre on the fence about excision surgery with this expert, you have my assurance that it is the best thing you will ever do if you suffer from endometriosis. Dont waste your time with general practice surgeons or OB-GYNs who will torture you and render you infertile with unnecessary techniques like ablation, oophorectomy and hysterectomy to treat a disease that makes its own estrogen. Portland is lucky to have him.Update: Im now almost 20 weeks pregnant with my first child. I was told to abstain from trying to conceive for a month after surgery, and know from research it can take 1-3 months for cycles to normalize after the ovaries are handled. Dr Fogelson said to give it six months, and if I wasnt pregnant in that time he would refer me to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I was pregnant within four months of being cleared to try again. Before surgery, we had been trying for 2 years without success.
Dr. Fogelson is an outstanding surgeon. He and his Patient Care Coordinator Milissa were excellent communicators. They answered all of my questions thoroughly, made me feel like I would be well taken care of, and most importantly, they listened to me. The surgery center they used was top notch. I would highly recommend Dr. Fogelson for anyone seeking treatment for endometriosis or other related issues. I did a lot of research about different excision surgeons and flew to Portland from California to see Dr. Fogelson due to his impressive reputation . . . it was worth the flight.
Dr. Fogelson is an absolute gem and breath of fresh air. He is one of the most brilliant, kind and compassionate physicians I have encountered. He performed excision surgery on me in March of 2018. I had done a lot of research before picking a surgeon to help me. I travelled from the East Coast to see him. The process was so easy from the very beginning up until now. I say up until now because he is still there from me when I have questions or need advice. His surgical skill, knowledge and education are substantial. I appreciate so much that he dedicates his practice to helping and advocating for women with issues that may have been swept under the rug or ignored by others. Thank you Dr. Fogelson for being an amazing physician!
Every woman who has learned to keep her own research folder, who knows the lonely feeling of pulling herself off another exam table with no answers to show for it, who has reconciled herself to a life of pain, deserves at least once to have a doctor actually advocate for her health. We were dumbstruck by our first meeting with Dr. Fogelson. Instead of the usual tired manner of physicians, we were faced with this inquisitive energy. Where we were used to receiving morose sympathies, he spoke in confident hope of helping. After so many years of self-advocacy, how can we express the feeling when a doctor placed our health problem on his shoulders as though it were his purpose, the point of his vocation, to find help for us? And to him it comes naturally. From the first, Dr. Fogelson stepped into the role of our champion. With inspiration he dug into my wife’s decade-thick file. He picks up his phone on the second ring to answer our concerns. He took time out during an international conference to call her for an update. When the hospital reneged on their promise to bill us on a sliding scale, Dr. Fogelson engaged his own lawyer to crusade on our behalf. As I write, he is storing my wife’s uterus just so we can together scorn the villain face to face before its destruction. He has a quality that speaks more eloquently than any review to reassure a patient that the best is being done for her. I don’t know if this is common among world-class surgeons, but it is a quality that goes beyond both skill and compassion. Fogelson is a nerdy fighter pilot, clearly enjoying putting his expertise to use (in debrief, he described the surgery as “fun”). He is also a proactive caregiver and tenacious problem-solver. He gives clear answers. Does anyone suffering endometriosis have a glut of clear answers? My wife has been pain-free for six months. Before seeing Dr. Fogelson, she was confined to a low chair for the majority of the day, nearly every day.For once, you should experience the relief that comes with someone else taking up your battle. I recommend you seek help from a surgeon who deserves your trust. His number is on this page.
I cant say enough good things about Dr. Fogelson and his expertise with endometriosis. Ive been suffering for years and finally now Im not living in pain anymore. He performed a very extensive surgery on me and I felt very comfortable with my options, but mostly due to Dr. Fogelsons expertise. After surgery he gave me personal attention which was helpful. I highly recommend him.
Grateful for Dr. Mohling’s skill and expertise. From my phone consult, pre-op appointment, surgery, and post op she was so kind and empathic to both me and my husband. On the day of my surgery there was some snow on the ground and she was ready and willing to walk to the hospital for my procedure! Thankfully it didn’t come to that but it showed how dedicated she was to treat my pain. Since surgery, my quality of life has improved tremendously and it’s all thanks to her being a champion for those suffering from endometriosis. I hope I won’t need to use her services again in the future but it’s reassuring to know she’s there.
Dr. Mohling and staff are saints. The hospital staff at Legacy Good Samaritan are saints. I traveled from Sydney, Australia to see her & have never received such amazing care ANYWHERE else! Thank you for treating me so well and helping me get my life back. I was up & walking the next day. The pain prior was 100x worse than that of surgery pain and or hassle. I had instant relief 🥲
Since I was 15 years old I have lived in utter agony from endometriosis and fibroids. I filtered thru so many doctors that I cant even recall how many there has been! What I do remember was being de-valided, being told I was over exagerting the pains, the cramps, etc.... that I was acting out to get attention, the works. Thanks to an endometriosis support group on Facebook I was able to find the knowledge of an Endo Specialist. Thankfully, in my case, Dr. Fogelson was in my state, and a few hours drive. From the moment I emailed for a consult-thru out the entire experience of check ups, procedure, recovery and follow up, Dr. Fogelson made me feel heard, understood, validated for every ounce of how I was feeling. He didnt once make me feel awkward, or uncomfortable, this was also coming from a place where I have always felt very threatened by male physicians. Dr. Fogelson is the entire opposite. His passion for his practice Is astounding. He has chosen a wonderful staff as well, his assistant Miss Millissa always had a warm comforting presents about her, and always was glad to help! She is quick to respond to any questions, or assistance, or just friendly banter! To any woman who is out there feeling that something is wrong, and havent found the answers, Dr. Fogelson is by far my one and only recommendation!! #fogelsongang #endowarriors #findrecovery
Update: I am 4 weeks post op. I have my life back! Dr. Mohling helped me SO much with my pain. She will always be on my care team as long as she is in practice. THANK YOU!!!Dr. Mohling and her staff are beyond wonderful. Dr. Mohling was very direct and treated me like a person instead of just another surgery. I will always recommend Dr.Mohling and plan to keep her on my list of providers.
About four years ago I learned that I had advanced endometriosis. I met with many Providence doctors that either did not believe me (despite pictures) or even listen to me when I told them what all was going on with me. I did an internet search in hopes of finding someone better and that is where I was led to Dr. Fogelson. YAY!! He is the most caring and compassionate doctor I have ever met. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. Having my treatment/surgery for endometriosis was the best thing I could have ever done. I truly had no idea what all I missing out on. I did not need to suffer (for 20 years) or be in pain 3 weeks out of every month. I see him every year now for womans healthcare and could not imagine having to find another physician for my needs. He is the BEST!
Im 30, Ive had pelvic pain and some other strange symptoms since I was a pre-teen. Ive also had issues with multiple miscarriages in adulthood. Ive seen many different providers over the years. Visits always resulted in muscle relaxers, its just part of having a uterus, pain killers, when you have a baby and the pain will go away, and unhelpful mental health screenings.Dr. Mohling was the first provider to actually listen. She came up with a care plan that works for me, offered validation (making me not feel crazy like many providers do with pelvic conditions), ordered helpful interventions and a treatment plan with different options, provided wrap around care, actually determined the casue of my nearly 20 years of recurrent pain, and even advocated on my behalf with my insurance medical director. While I never write reviews, I felt I had to. If you know someone experiencing pelvic issues, even if out of network like the office was for me, trust the process and get in there! It sounds so cliche, but seriously, my only regret is that I took so long. I am so appreciative of Dr. Mohling and the practice as a whole. I cannot possibly speak any higher, nor find the words to fully express my gratitute for this practice. If I could give more stars I would.
Dr. Shanti Mohling is hands down the best doctor I have ever met. She actively listens and takes the the time to hear her patients concerns. She was the first doctor I have ever felt took me serious in regards to my pelvic pain. She has a vast knowledge and is very open about her findings and thoughts. She really looks at her patients as a whole. Within two minutes in the exam room she pointed out my neck had some swelling and suggested I follow up with my PCP for a thyroid ultrasounds. Low and behold I have three parathyroid tumors. I hands down would would recommend Dr. Mohling to anyone who suffers from pelvic pain and looking for help/answers.
I was referred to dr. Mohling for a diagnose and connection to see how bad my endometriosis was. She did an exam and ordered an MRI. Things were good at this point. I heard very good things from their professionalism and surgical skills. The thing is I never heard back from her to discuss my MRI. I called multiple times, the most recent time the front desk person mentioned that the MRI facility didn’t tell them that the report was done and they are going to leave a note on Dr’s desk asking her to call me back to discuss my MRI that I did three MONTHS ago. Didn’t hear anything. During the 1st appointment, I alluded to her that I may not be ready for surgery right away but might be in the future. I can’t help but feel that in their eyes, I am with no value to follow up if I am not ready to get surgery right away. I also asked her to give me some referrals for a Internist for endometriosis, did not hear a thing. So I guess don’t bother them if you are not ready to jump on the operating table. Very disappointed
From enigmatic health issues to diagnosis to treatment, navigating the labyrinth of endometriosis is daunting, to say the least. It doesnt help that the entrenched medical viewpoints (and health insurance stupidity) tend to push women toward the blanket advice of get a hysterectomy.Dr. Fogelson is one of only a few in the vanguard of those who are changing the game. Thats what our research suggested before we met with him, and thats what the results suggested after surgery.Decisions surrounding endometriosis treatment are heavy. There are so many facts and opinions online that it would be hard not to feel like you were rolling the dice in a game with permanent, life-altering consequences. Indeed, you are, and of course no surgical intervention is without risk. That said, if you weigh those risks and decide to proceed, this is THE guy that will offer you your best odds of managing that risk. Not only that, but he will be an indispensable source of unbiased feedback and knowledge during your initial decision-making process.A few side notes:Great surgery costs money, and insurance coverage varies. If you havent already wrapped your mind around the importance and necessity of paying more out of pocket for a superior surgical outcome, study up on postsurgical outcomes between garden variety hysterectomies and endometriosis excision. Theres a good enough chance your initial cheap surgery will turn into more surgery down the road to consider doing it right the first time.If youre wondering why theres a cluster of fairly new reviews for this fairly young looking surgeon and whether or not you should trust your pelvic health to this man, let me put your mind at ease . Dr. Fogelson recently opened his own private practice after being part of a larger group. I would have done exactly the same thing if I were in his position for a variety of reasons that Im sure hed be happy to discuss if youre curious.Keep in mind that, in many ways, endometriosis excision is still a medical frontier. Dont expect the sort of pat diagnoses and suggested courses of treatment that one might encounter for a sinus infection or an ingrown toenail. Dr. Fogelson is refreshingly honest. Hell tell you if he doesnt know something and he wont beat around the bush about statistical probabilities. There are going to be maybes and uncertainty in this process no matter the course of action you choose. You want the guy that is upfront with you about those maybes as opposed to the OB/GYN that just wants to vacuum out your lady parts, tell you everything will be better, and send you down the road.On a final note, Dr. Fogelson is a busy guy who does a lot of surgery, but he still managed to follow up with us after surgery to an extent that weve never experienced with a health care provider. Based on our research over the past few years, Im certain he will only become busier (or as busy as he wants to be, anyway). While I dont imagine he would ever sacrifice the time and attention that a patient needs, I can easily imagine his waiting list growing, as some of the other excision specialists lists have. Thats one major argument to act sooner vs later. The other is this: the biggest regret my wife and I have is how long we waited to confirm our suspicions of endometriosis and to take the appropriate action. It was scary and, as previously stated, daunting. Our biggest triumph was finding Dr. Fogelson.
Dr. Fogelson is the kind of doctor to take the time to get to know you and your health problems. I’ve had other health issues lately with me being at the hospital that he does Surgeries at. He would try to stop in and see me and the other doctors. The other doctors working with me, said that he has been in contact with them. It the little to make you know he really cares about you.If your looking for a doctor that is going to take the time, to hear your problems out and want to make a plan with you and your family and Its constantly studying up on whats new in the field all over the world this is your doctor for you.
