The process felt painless ! My care team was so kind, I think my only not pleasant interaction was with the short /cold anesthesiologist . But it was fine considering horror stories I’ve heard from other clinics. But other than that everyone was so warm, answered all my questions before I went down rabbit holes and even supported me through an issue with an Alto delivery.I felt like they genuinely cared about my well-being.
I’ve been working with Stanford Fertility since 2017 (2017 to 2023) where my now late husband and I were fortunately able to conceive two children under Dr. Nakajima and team’s care.2017/2018 IVF Journey:Our family building journey began in 2017, when my late husband and I were referred to us by our oncologist. We had plans to bank my husband’s sperm before he underwent chemotherapy. Based on both our medical history, tests, sperm analysis, Dr. Nakajima recommended IVF for our situation. At the time, I was 38 years old and worked for a company that had basic medical coverage and minimal fertility coverage.I met with a financial counselor that reviewed my medical and fertility coverage and advised me on how many IVF cycles I was covered for which was 3 cycles. She didn’t mention the costs for fertility medications and I was only really covered for 1 cycle. Billing was a nightmare and I was constantly getting calls from Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital to pay my bills while I was still trying to resolve some billing mishaps. We opted for genetic testing to avoid passing on a gene that caused my husband’s cancer. When we met with the genetic counselor a couple months later, she did not know beforehand about what genetic testing we needed which delayed the start of my IVF cycles by approximately 6 months as genetic testing probes needed to be developed to screen the embryos. The delay was frustrating.Aside from the financial and billing issues, Dr. Nakajima’s team did a great job laying out our next steps, what injections I should take and when, monitoring appointments needed before egg retrieval, Day 1 thru 5 embryo development updates. Once we got a euploid embryo, Dr. Nakajima advised what procedures I should do to maximize my chances of a successful embryo transfer and implantation. This resulted in my son who is now 5 years old.2022/2024Journey:My husband passed away while I was pregnant with my first child. I still had my husband’s sperm stored at Stanford and I decided to try IVF again in 2021 at the age of 41. Due to my advanced age I thought that going to a different clinic (NOVA IVF) would increase my chances. I did two cycles out of pocket that did not yield a good embryo. I gave up.In 2022, I joined a company with excellent fertility benefits so I decided to go back to Dr. Nakajima. He put me on a different IVF protocol based on my latest fertility testing results, my age, and history. My billing experience was so much better and the new genetic counselor was a lot friendlier. Same as before, the team informed me of next steps, what meds to order and when to take them. I made sure to prepare myself mentally that my chances were very slim to have a euploid embryo at my age of 43. First cycle did not yield a good embryo. Second cycle, I got a message on a Saturday from the genetics counselor about my results which I thought was odd for a Saturday, but was great because I was anxiously waiting for some news. Success! I got a euploid embryo and I transferred a few months later when I was ready. Napping on me now is my 7 week old daughter.Dr. Nakajima and team has helped me fulfill my family building goals and dreams. I consider myself very lucky. Throughout the whole process I knew my chances were slim considering my advance age, and I already prepared myself to hear bad news at each step since IVF you have limited control of the outcome.Dr. Nakajima, thank you so much and it was great working with you and all the cheerful nurses at my monitoring appointments, egg retrieval procedures.
5 stars because I cant give a 10! The care team at Stanford Fertility Center is simply amazing! From my first consultation to my last appointment, they provided me with top-notch care and support throughout my entire journey.Dr. Sokalska and her team were incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate. They took the time to explain every step of the process to me and made sure I understood what to expect. They also answered all of my questions and addressed any concerns I had along the way. What impressed me most about their care team at was their personalized approach to my care. They treated me as an individual and tailored my treatment plan to my specific needs. They were always available to offer guidance and support, and I felt like they genuinely cared about my well-being.I cannot express my gratitude enough for the amazing care I received. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They are truly the best in the business!
Stay far far far away. You will lose money, hope and any eggs you have!Switch to other clinics. Do not consider treatment here.Personal Story: I had the worst experience here where my REI Dr. Aghajanova said I have premature ovarian failure and suggested I consider getting donor eggs at age 28 because the protocol she put me on yielded no blasts (and only retrieved 1 oocyte) even though I had 11 good size follicles on the day of egg retrieval. She never adjusted the medication dosages during the stim cycle and she never took the time to meet me in person and was late to all of our virtual appointments. She also never ordered any procedures like doing an HSG, hysteroscopy or endometrial biopsy. Nothing. And if youre not new to IVF, you will understand how big of a red flag all of this is. Also, for background context, my AMH was slightly low and FSH and the rest of the hormones were ideal so suggesting donor eggs at age 28 is beyond stupid. Especially after doing only one embryo cycle.Luckily for me, I went to CCRM in Menlo Park and had success with them and am very grateful for the doctor who actually took the time to study my case, meet me in person and do all the necessary testing and adjust my medication dosages during the stim cycle that yielded top quality 5-day blasts :)
WorstPhone doesnt connect at all.Even after the call was connected, I was treated in a dishonest manner.I was asked to take an insurance photo for the reservation and sent it, but there was no reply and I was left alone.Insurance card photos are very personal information. But why dont you just leave me alone and make a reservation?
The worst experience ever. Keep away from this facitility. You will be waiting for hours to reach customer service even in case of emergency. They will never give proper info even if u reached them after lot of waiting. For my first appointment , the nurse called me 10 mins before appointment and asked to fill the questionnaire or the appointment will be cancelled. I waited for this appointment for more than a month. This is the most pathetic medical system i have ever seen.
Cryopreservation/Egg freezing review:My care team:Anna Sokalska, MD,Lusine Aghajanova, MD,Clemens M. Ortner, MDRNs:Samantha L,Angelina N,Sandeep B,Emily MPros:- January 2023: video consultation was great, informative- labs were super fast and can be done in the same location- appointment times were delayed only twice and a max of 15 minutes (which is awesome. I’ve had to wait for 30+ min for other hospitals for other visits)- once I started, I used the MyChart to message my care team for issues/questions/concerns, I always had a response or a call back within 12 hours on business days. I had a sinus infection so I was wondering if any of my antibiotics would interfere with my treatment plan and they sent it over to an MD who confirmed it would not- ample live video sessions, education materials and documentation for injections but alto fertility video is the best resource- offered psychological counseling if we wanted- someone on the care team spoke to me at least once a day via mychart (I also sent many questions)- retrieval day! Nurses and doctors all came and explained the entire process and their role. I was extremely confident and comfortable in their care. Everyone was so warm and caring. The egg freezing process was intimidating but the team made it so positive that I would do it again.- entire surgery is documented in care notes after visit, along with the vitals, anesthesia monitoring and timeline of each event from admit to discharge.Cons:- when my care plan was created, a nurse said someone will call me to over it but no one called me. I sent a message on mychart and someone called me within an hour to review.- Stanford and CVS somehow ordered a ton of extra medication that I now have to discard with no reimbursement. Stanford said CVS should’ve double checked and CVS said they read me all the medication so it’s my fault that I didn’t request it to be removed. They read me 11 prescription items and I had no idea what each of them were and the dosage so I just said yes to everything so please check. Stanford and CVS don’t pay for the medication, we do. So it’s our responsibility to check that they don’t send us too many…I would recommend.
I was concerned going in based on the reviews, but Dr. Strug and his team have been wonderful so far. Going through infertility treatment is never easy, but the medical care me and my husband have received is superb. My questions are addressed promptly, they give very thorough explanations of everything, and the entire team is very empathetic, which is the most important part for me. Nurse Tiffany is just beyond, she really has a gift to connect with patients and offer comfort. I guess everyone’s experience is different, but I would say definitely give it a try, to us it has been worth it.
Horrible experience. I did two rounds of egg freezing here. The outcoming is horrible, as 31 years old. I went to another facility the outcome was much better. You will never get chance talk with doctor unless you said you want do another cycle with them. Otherwise you will only be able to talk with the nurse. The result I got is getting worse and worse without know what is the reason. They just want to use much as they can from your insurance and pay out of your own pocket. Patients concerns are not be addressed well. Do not waste money here, the most important is the outcome is terrible. Look at the reviews here. Most have bad experiences and bad outcomes.
I will never come back to this clinic or recommend it to anyone I know. Im not typically one to leave negative reviews, but my experience with Stanford REI was so abysmal that I feel its my duty to warn others. Warning: This review is long to provide the full breadth of my experience with this clinic so far.Tl;dr:The care we received onsite was fine, but setting up an appointment, billing, and ongoing communication has been a nightmare, leaving me and my husband aghast and responsible for a surprise bill for thousands of dollars we didnt know wed have to pay.Long version:I should have paid attention to the low ratings for this clinic, but I was referred here by my primary care doctor and trusted the Stanford name. The red flags started almost immediately, during the appointment-making process.I was told to call in on the first day of my period to set up appointments for blood draws, etc. which were time-sensitive and have to happen on certain days of your cycle. I did exactly as requested, was assured that they would follow up to schedule the appointments, but never heard back.I called in, after waiting a few days, to check what was going on because I didnt want to have to wait another month or more for my next period if we missed the window. To add onto the frustration and lack of trust, the person I spoke to to set up the appointments seemed not to know what I needed to come in for, and I had to repeatedly remind her of things I was told by the doctor, including whether or not I had to be fasting for certain blood tests, which days each blood draw was supposed to happen on, etc. As a patient who does not have medical training or expertise, I do not expect to have to catch these details and explain to the clinic what procedures they want to do and what the requirements are. Who knows what would have happened if I didnt catch these details, and what things I didnt catch because I didnt know?I thought my troubles were over after I went to the appointment (side note: the phlebotomist did a great job drawing my blood!), but unfortunately, that was only the beginning. The clinic had never quoted me the cost of the labs and ultrasound I had done, and I assumed that meant it would be covered by insurance, since at every other healthcare provider, I receive a quote in advance for any amount I need to pay out of pocket. That was not the case here. I was hit with a bill of ~$9000 (still over $5000 after a Stanford self-pay discount) for the blood work and ultrasound, which insurance would not cover, NOT because of the actual work that was done, but because it was done at a fertility clinic. I could have had these tests done and covered by insurance at my regular non-Stanford gynecologist, but I didnt know, and now theres nothing I can do about it. Ive tried appealing insurance and they have rejected my appeal. For an extra cherry on top, my insurance says theyve negotiated a discount with Stanford for the bill, but Stanford still charged me more than insurance says I should pay, and no one at Stanford has responded to my messages asking about this for two weeks now. In the meantime, Ive had to pay the bill anyway, to avoid being penalized for it being overdue. It has now been 5 months since I started trying to fix this situation, and I feel helpless and ignored by both Stanford and my insurance.Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this clinic.
As a current IVF patient I feel obligated to warn others regarding the poor level of patient care and follow-up my husband and I have received. We’ve been patients for the last two years pursuing IVF treatment. ** know that I also work in the healthcare field and I’m in a patient facing role. And that the actual staff are really nice but clearly over worked and understaffedExpect to be your own biggest advocate, which means:—If you’re not like me ( aka: someone who works in health care, who works with insurance companies, and understands the jargon). Then be advised that you will need to be the one who is constantly between the clinic and your insurance to ensure things are up to date (treatment plans, pre authorizations etc.)- Poor patient care looks like little to zero follow-up. You need to call ,email and call again for any information / updates that are time sensitive . (Note this is a theme you’ll see in other reviews too)-I had to track my own cycle and was told I would get a call back and never did called. At one point I didn’t have my period, pushed for an appointment only to be asked why I hadn’t informed the team earlier when I had called a month & weeks prior- Client care coordinators will not proactively manage your treatment plan. You will need to remain in contact with your insurance to ensure that your treatment plan is received. This can ultimately affect your out of pocket/ up front costs-Generalized care is at their core what you really receive (individualized care is NOT their approach). For example:- I was left with additional infertility medications. Which left us with $1000’s of dollars of medication I ultimately won’t/ didn’t use.- We we’re never informed of what would happen if plan A doesn’t work. We were left with no plan b, or c.
Ive been with your practice for over 6 months, but only went through one very unsuccessful round of IUI. This level of inefficiency makes me lose faith that I can get a coordinated and timely service needed. Ive rarely gotten any specialized treatment for my case and also done countless of meaningless blood test work with no real diagnostic or meaning. I doubt continuing with your practice will result in anything meaningful except spending more time and money.Run away from this place, all they care about is billing insurance and no one is there to ensure the scheduling or anything.
Dr Nakajima was great. Very knowledgeable doctor, answered all our questions, very details explained the process, all possible outcomes and plans b, c in case plan A wont work. The only downside is the quality of customer support. I had to be proactive in my questions and call rather then wait for an online answer. Overall great experience! Will definitely recommend!
Dr. Sokalska and her entire team were extremely incompetent to say the least. She was never available to speak with, and we usually ended up talking to a “back-up” doctor. All their communication is done via mychart (message service they have), which leads to miscommunication and delays. Her instructions were usually incomplete, and late. I missed several cycles because either she didn’t put a plan together on time, or because her or her staff sent incomplete prescriptions to the pharmacy or without a signature. After going through many cycles and becoming familiar with the procedure, we became aware of many mistakes and had to stay on top of the program in order to make things happen. From our perspective, the entire goal of the clinic is to drain your insurance, and then make you pay even more out of pocket for a mediocre service. Even basic ultrasound techniques were lacking. Learn from my mistake. Review their statistics on the CDC website. They are below average in all categories. And now we know why. Their goal does not seem to be to efficiently help the clients create a family. Don’t be tricked by the prestige of the Stanford name. Save yourself the frustration, time (which is precious), and money and go someplace else.
I tried calling them 4 times in the past week on different days to schedule an appointment. The first 2 times I was told that the new patient coordinator is out of office and busy and will give me a call back but I didnt receive a call back. Then I called them again and left a detailed voicemail and didnt get a call back for 2 days.
We feel fortunate to have had the care of Dr Sokalskas team. Dr Sokalska has always been very caring, informative, and responsive, and has helped guide us through a normally stressful process. Her team has also been very caring and supportive; for example, Devinder and Cristina have kept us informed and have explained every step of the journey. They have gone the extra mile to help us get medications in time. Recently after a complication arose with the pharmacy we did not know what to do. Cristina voluntarily reached out to the parties involved, helped walk us through a difficult situation, and resolved what seemed to be an intractable problem. We really appreciate the support and compassion of Dr Sokalska, Devinder, Cristina, Sindi and the rest of our team at Stanford IVF.
This is the worst place to go if you have good insurance they will do everything they can to use as much of your insurance up as they can. They have issues with their billing department and after them trying to collect payment from us and us refusing bc our insurance covers everything then the insurance claim suddenly resolves. This has happened to us every cycle for a year. We got pregnant on our own and instead of calling us on our second Beta test to let us know we were more than likely going to be having a miscarriage they just sent the results via my chart then did not have anyone available to answer the phone for two hours to explain what was going on. I miacarried two days later. Our insurance only allows for us to see this spacfic clinic I wish they knew how bad they were. If you have any options please save yourself the heart ache.Update: if I could do zero I would I got pregnant on my own and went in for Betas my first two were taken in a 48 hour time and did not double. Got the call to expect a miscarriage and to go off of progesterone. I went off of progesterone and went in a week later my numbers had doubled around 70 hours and then went in again for my fourth betas and it doubled again around 70 hours. The doctor didnt take time before righting my pregnancy off and it almost cost me my pregnancy im now seeing a new obgyn who is also very disappointed in the care Stanford provided. Im glad I got a second opinion on before I went to long without progesterone and lost my pregnancy.
Please look at the reviews at yelp. I wish I had done that before stepping into this facility. They carry Standford brand name but they are in the business of making money. Dr. Nakajima used all my insurance fertility money with no positive result. They did unnecessary lab works that my insurance didn’t cover it. They did my monitoring ultrasound so late that when they realized the cycle was not good, I used all my medication which cost my insurance $12000. I wish I had chosen another facility.
We went to Dr. Baker from Stanford fertility center. I have a condition called PCOS, and getting pregnant naturally for me is impossible. After seeing a number of doctors, no one was able to help us conceive. Stanford fertility was awesome. Dr. Baker is a great Doctor Who listens and tries to accommodate a plan that works best for you. I am rating this on the dr. and not the administrative staff and billing. I do agree that the billing and administration needs some attention. Ive had to call them a number of times just to fix billing issues. Additionally, there are a lot of people without fertility health coverage, Stanford being that they are a big hospital, should figure out a better way of providing low cost coverage and lower price fertility medication. I know many couples give up on the dream of having a child, simply due to the fees and cost associated with treatment. We were fortunate enough to have our miracle baby and cannot thank Stanford fertility, specifically Dr. Baker enough.
Avoid this place. I know at least two couples who tried this place with no results, switched to another provider, and immediately got positive results. The doctors are nice and the staff are friendly, they just dont get results. Perhaps its their protocol or the lab, but it just doesnt work.
I wish I knew before starting my process here that the team and the doctors are so incompetent. Not sure how this is still running and have an affiliation from Stanford. If you need a team who really cares for you and your time, do not come here.
We have been helped to have our two healthy and beautiful children here. Very experienced and professional staff. Easy to reach, responsive and nice online platform to message, etc. I highly recommend them to help have children.
Tried to call in to make an appointment but nobody ever answered the call. Have tried for weeks. Do they have a front desk?
Excellent staff and doctors. I want to specially mention Dr Meera Shah who was very supportive and because of her I am Pregnant again. Thx a lot Stanford and Meera.
Poor internal coordination and wrong information given to patients!Stay away from here.
Look at the Yelp reviews and save yourself a lot of time and frustration.
Great doctors and facility
The medical expertise is exceptional.
