My first daughter celebrated her 11th birthday last week and she wouldn’t be here with the Tulsa Fertility Center and Dr. McKinney. Dr. McKinney never gave up hope on helping me achieve my fertility goals ❤️ We have had several close friends also use other providers in this same office and all had great reviews.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Dr. McKinney and her staff are amazing. They really took the time to listen to my husband and I and really just guide us through every step. We were never pressured into anything. They became like second family and we are forever grateful for them because we got our miracle girl♥️Give Alex or Dr. McKinney a call and I promise you they will take great care of you and your family.
No one wants to go to a fertility clinic. I know I never would have thought my husband and I would be years into trying to have a baby without much hope in sight. However, my impression of Dr. McKinney is that she is passionate and knowledgeable about her work, she cares about her patients, and she wants to help in whatever the best way is for those patients. She makes a not great situation about as good as it can be.We had previously gone to another fertility clinic in Tulsa and had a pretty good experience with everyone there except the R.E. After a devastating appointment of our concerns being brushed aside and basically told that we had no hope without IVF, it took me about 6 months to dust that off and be willing to try again with a second opinion. I called Tulsa Fertility Clinic and got in within a couple of weeks. It was night and day.The staff here are wonderful- and that includes Dr. McKinney. She answered all of our questions, took the full hour (plus a little) to talk with us and shared several options that did include IVF, but it wasnt the only thing.I have done a LOT of research and read a lot of papers covering studies in the field during the last few years of dealing with infertility/recurrent loss, and Dr. McKinney was familiar with all of them and was able to explain everything way better than I could understand it with my lack of medical training. I have tried this with other doctors and its often a great way to find out who is keeping up with current research. Dr. McKinney is.Her suggestions came with good reasons and gave us room for input. She knows what she is doing and I cannot wait to continue down the path we are on with her help. Maybe it will result in having children or maybe it wont, but at least were finally giving it a good shot with a great R.E. I seriously cannot recommend her enough.I dont want to discount any of the negative reviews on here by my review. I think it is easy to be overwhelmed in the first appointment- especially before you have bloodwork done and your own results to look at with the doctor. I also think we all have different ways of looking at things and communicating. Perhaps Dr. McKinneys style of communication isnt for everyone. But for my husband and I, she is perfect and I feel like I am in good hands. If youre on the fence, I would recommend you give her a try and go have a consultation with her. Its expensive out of pocket, but better to have a consultation and see if TFC is for you or if you need to try somewhere else rather than potentially pass over a good thing because it wasnt right for someone else. And the lesson I have learned is dont be afraid to go for a second opinion if you dont feel like its a great fit. Choosing an RE is a big decision, so dont take it lightly or base it off of internet reviews.
Most importantly, we have a 2.5 month old daughter from our time at TFC…we are so grateful. Our experience was great, especially when we started the egg retrieval cycle. I feel like we really got all of the attention and support we needed. Dr. McKinney once told me she was “a dog with a bone” which is exactly the kind of commitment you want from your doctor when you are going through this process. I would recommend TFC and we will definitely be back!
Everyone’s experience is going to be different based on their personalities and diagnosis. My husband and I had a great experience here. We had done 3 failed IUIs with my OB and decided it was time for IVF. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s expensive everywhere if insurance doesn’t cover it, which most don’t. I have PCOS and my husband had morphology issues. We had a seamless cycle, 19 eggs, genetic testing and ended with one perfect embryo. Thankfully he stuck and we had a healthy pregnancy. Being communicative, asking for exactly what you need and being understanding of the magic and skill that goes into IVF and you’ll be successful here!
They were really nice.. however.. they charged my husbands insurance just for him SITTING in the room with me.. and I just got a bill for almost $5,000 for bloodwork that they ordered. I feel like if the bloodwork that they were ordering was going to be that expensive it should have been discussed with me first to make sure that was something that I could afford. I have NEVER in my life seen bloodwork cost $5,000.
My husband and I tried for a year to get pregnant without any luck. Going to a fertility center was beyond stressful, but Dr. McKinney and her team made me feel so much more relaxed and confident in the process. Dr. McKinney is very knowledgable, kind, empathetic, and just plain wonderful. I specifically appreciated that she gave me facts while always letting my husband and I decide the best next step based on our situation. All the other staff (Dana, Katy, Yesi) were also incredible and warm-- making me feel supported throughout our journey. Very happy to say that Im in my second trimester and we have a little girl on the way thanks to Tulsa Fertility Center!
STAY AWAY!! My husband and I went to this clinic and they will push IVF on you because that’s where they get their money. Before they even ran many tests on us or did ultrasounds, we had to sit through an hour long “consult” that was really just an IVF pitch with Dr. McKinney. When we told her we wanted to try different options first, she finally let us do a medicated cycle and we had to travel there 7 times in the month for monitoring (we live 2 hours away) because she wouldn’t just prescribe fertility meds, even though we were ok with the risk of multiples.I also kept asking if they could call us to go over my husband’s semen analysis. They had cleared him for the medicated cycle, but I noticed some numbers were lower. They refused to give us his results over the phone and said we would have to come in and make another appointment (it took months of me asking and they weren’t concerned about his numbers, but still wanted us to have another consult because more money). Here’s the real kicker, they did a lot of ultrasounds on me to track follicles and they also looked at my HSG test results. They said I had cysts and fluid in my tube, so I might need a tube removed…. Well I finally found an AMAZING OB who did one ultrasound, said I have endometriosis and did the laparoscopic surgery. Turns out I had stage 4 endometriosis!! How did Tulsa Clinic not catch that when this new OB saw it within 1 minute of an ultrasound?! My new OB took his time during surgery and cleaned out almost all of the endometriosis and reattached my tubes to my ovaries. Nothing was wrong with my actual tubes and I didn’t need one removed at all.Summary: this clinic just wants your money and a quick, easy “fix”. Had I stayed with them, I would have lost a tube, been pushed into IVF and had high changes of miscarriages with the severity of my endometriosis. Oh, not to mention, my endometriosis surgery with my new OB was the same price as one medicated cycle with Tulsa. My new OB just prescribes the fertility medication, which cost me $10.Thanks to my new OB and absolutely no thanks to this horrible clinic, my husband and I now have a very good chance of conceiving naturally.
We visited this clinic and one in KC before starting our IVF journey. We loved Dr McKinney and her team right from the start. I’ve now done two egg retrievals and one transfer with her. We are pregnant! Her entire team is so kind and has WONDERFUL communication and response times. I can’t recommend them enough!
At 37 I had and emergency hysterectomy, at 40 I went to my OBGYN and spoke to him about possible egg retrieval. After a series of tests and other tasks were completed he cleared me and referred me to the Tulsa fertility center.Met up with Dr. McKinney without ever running any tests or even attempting to retrieve an egg she looked at my file and told me I was too old and to give up and to possibly try an egg donor. To this day Im still being told by two separate OBGYNs that Im still producing eggs and my hormone levels are fine. I also currently know three women 40 plus years of age who are currently pregnant.
This place is beyond a clown show. Starting from the rude black woman at the front desk, to the office manager, to the medical and physician staff. Rude. Unhelpful. They charge you $274 for a visit fee, sit you in a room for 30 minutes with no direction. Finally when you see someone it’s a 5-7 minute chat with no emotion or care. My wife and I feel like they could care less. What an extraordinary collection of incompetence and soullessness. Horrible horrible horrible.
My wife and I, had such a wonderful experience at the Tulsa Fertility Clinic! Dr. McKinney, Nichole, and Jennifer are very knowledgeable, intelligent, and compassionate. We are currently pregnant and so thankful our experience has been so positive through this difficult journey. They are the best! ❤️Update: we have two beautiful healthy baby boys. Each by IVF and by Dr. McKinney! She is the absolute best. I can’t thank her enough for everything she’s done to make this family complete.
Dr McKinney was such a blessing to my husband and I. After struggling to get pregnant for a year, Dr. McKinney gave us several options to help start our family. We ended up doing 6 IUI’s and 5 rounds of IVF, and 3 FET’s to get our miracle baby (needless to say we got to know Dr. McKinney and her staff very well- 2+ years of treatment). We were a tough case, but never once did Dr. McKinney give up on us. She helped navigate our specific situation, provided treatment options that were catered to us, and even came in on a weekend to make sure our IVF cycle was on track. We felt they Dr. McKinney did an excellent job of spending time with us at each appointment, explaining things in detail and providing realistic options for treatment. Additionally, once we knew our case was particularly tricky, Dr. McKinney took as many precautions as possible to make sure we had the best outcomes. Thank you to Dr. McKinney for allowing us to have our son! Also, I should mention Dr. McKinney’s staff, Katy, was wonderful. She made sure we felt supported and answered all of our questions promptly. Additionally, Kari helped us navigate insurance and financing issues- to her we are forever grateful!
My husband and I had an amazing experience at TFC. The entire staff went above and beyond with helping us on our journey. I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with our precious baby. I could not recommend Dr. McKinney and her staff enough!
We used Tulsa fertility clinic for Fertility treatments last year. We’re very blessed it worked the first time and I expect to deliver a healthy baby end of this month! Doctor McKinney is great! Very knowledgeable and caring. I honestly wish she was able to deliver me and follow me my entire pregnancy. However, her staff was a lot to deal with and were kind of stressful. I would get different answers from them sometimes so I tried to email and put things in writing I could refer too. I wouldn’t just call and ask questions because I might not get the correct answer or get any answer at all. From what I have been told by others going through fertility treatments they struggled with the same type of issues. Doctors were great but getting through to them or dealing with staff could be stressful nightmare. I think they just have so many clients it’s hard to kept up with and unless your high risk your more on the back burner. My advice is when you see the doctor bring your questions and write them down so it’s straight from her mouth and always message your concerns or questions in portal chart. Don’t just call and ask to speak with staff or nurse. Also, they didn’t seem to look at my chart as much and would ask me the same questions every time like what medications I was on even though I answered that every week and it never changed. Overall, it worked for us even though it is hard to go through and we’re very thankful for doctor McKinney’s care and treatment through process!
I loved the staff for the most part. Dr. McKinney was super sweet. My biggest issues were that I was passing tests with flying colors, and my husband was not. Despite all this, they still chose to focus all their efforts on me, while telling my husband there was nothing they could do for him. In many cases, this may be true, but it still felt like a cop-out. My other issue is that when my husband and I went in for an IUI, we were told that our insurance didnt cover the procedures, so we had to pay out of pocket. We were only able to afford one cycle because of this, but then almost 3 years later we get a phone call saying we were getting a refund. They had lied to us, told us insurance didnt cover anything, then billed to insurance anyway and waited almost 3 years to let us know. if we had known at the time that insurance would cover most of our out of pocket expenses, we would have been able to pay for more cycles, rather than feeling like there was nothing we could do because we couldnt afford the out of pocket expenses.
Dr. Mckinney provided my wife and I with the best care during our journey. Our options were explained clearly and the emotional support of every staff member was so appreciated. We now have a confirmed pregnancy and cannot wait to share our greatest gift with them. Our nurse, Jennifer, was very compassionate and kind. We truly could not have asked for better care. Thank you, Tulsa Fertility Center.
My husband and I had the most amazing experience at Tulsa Fertility Center. Dr. Mckinney and the nurses gave us the best care and made us feel so comfortable in such a hard time in our lives. While we were so excited to reach the point of graduation, we were sad to leave the people who helped us get there. We are so thankful for the time we had there!
TFC seemed like our second home for a year and a half and we couldn’t of chosen a better place to help us fight the hardest battle of our lifetime. Dr McKinney and her amazing staff will always hold a special place in our hearts. They were thorough, kind, honest and dedicated to finding the process we needed to win the infertility fight. They made us feel like family not just another couple walking through their doors. Everyone at Tulsa Fertility was welcoming, loving and supportive the entire time. We didn’t have one bad experience and they literally bent over backwards to make a hard situation bearable. We wished we would have talked to Dr McKinney sooner in our fight, that’s our only regret. I recommended TFC full heartily!
Everyone at the clinic is nice and understanding. We got pregnant within 2 cycles of trying! Couldnt have done it without Dr. McKinney and her nurses! I love Dana and Katie, theyre the nicest and funniest!
Dr. McKinney and her staff are the sweetest and most helpful! She always has the best attitude and they are always amazing about answering any questions we had so quickly. She helped us become pregnant with our twins and we could not recommend her or Tulsa Fertility Center more!
I am sad to leave a negative review here since Dr.Mckinney was highly recommended to me. I initially had a very mediocre experience. Nothing great but nothing terrible until doing IVF and being blown off about my condition deteriorating after retrieval. I have tried to rationalize any reason why I was not taken seriously or why she kept mentioning how she had not had a patient hospitalized in 14 years. Apologetically, I had to be the first in that time frame and because I was not taken seriously by her and the nurses at hillcrest I nearly died after they discharged me with sepsis. I will say that the one appointment I had with Dr.Prough was the only time I felt safe and respected through the process. I have transferred my embryos to another facility. I hope Dr.McKinney can reflect on her negligence and learn from it so that this does not happen again. Regardless of how often people are hospitalized it is important to keep each and every person as an individual to achieve the highest quality of care. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.
I would NOT recommend this facility for any help with infertility. My husband and I went there for answers and we received nothing but a sales pitch. I urge you to do your research on fertility centers, as we regret not doing so thoroughly enough. You would think the doctors and staff would be empathetic knowing you’re having a hard time with conception. Nope! We never once felt like anyone truly cared for our situation. Dr. McKinney about got us with her little spill about her battles with infertility but don’t let that fool you. Again, it’s nothing but a sales pitch, pushing IVF, mainly. You pay upfront and they bill you again later. Lots of money wasted and still no answers to show from it! Please learn from our mistake and do your own research. Most of these reviews speak for themselves. We would NOT recommend the Tulsa Fertility Center to anyone!
I cannot recommend Dr. McKinney and the staff at TFC enough! She was amazing throughout our entire experience in trying to conceive. We did 4 rounds of IUI prior to moving on to IVF, never feeling pressured to do anything. I’ll never forget her calling us and talking to us for over an hour about some disappointing results so we didn’t have to drive the 2 hours to Tulsa and back. She was so kind, caring, and relatable during our entire process. We are so incredibly thankful to her, Nichole, and Jennifer (who held my hand during my transfer...if that’s not caring, I don’t know what is) for all they did to help us. Not only did they help us get pregnant with our first miracle after several attempts, they helped us get pregnant with our second miracle 2 years later in our first cycle. The office runs like a well oiled machine. They have perfected how they run cycles. I always knew what to expect thanks to all of the details they take care of. I was always able to get in and out quickly (which was important because it was a 4 hour round trip) but never felt rushed. I think of them all as friends and they will always have a huge, very special place in our hearts for all they did to give us a family. I was actually sad to be dismissed back to my OB the last time because it meant we wouldn’t see them anymore. Definitely go see Dr. McKinney if you’re struggling with infertility for the best chances to grow your family.
My husband and I cannot speak more highly of Tulsa Fertility Center. We worked with Dr. Shauna McKinney through two rounds of IVF, and with each step in the process, we felt supported, educated, and encouraged. Dr. McKinney was patient in explaining medical jargon and procedures. She was also warm with human connection. For us, that science-meets-humanity was exactly what we were looking for and exactly what we needed. I recommend Dr. McKinney and TFC with the highest of praise.
I cannot say enough great things about the team at TFC. That is what you get, an entire team working towards your success. I have been through the highs and lows of infertility and they were there for me every step of the way. I am saddened to read negative comments about this place. The journey of infertility is dark and hard, but that should never be mistaken with the efforts of the medical team here. Dr. McKinney and her staff are incredible people. Our son is almost 3 and we are now expecting twins. Dont lose hope and dont be afraid to give Tulsa Fertility Clinic a try.
My husband and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about tulsa fertility. From our first visit we felt cared for and understood. They answered all our questions and made sure we had all the information we needed. After doing the testing Dr asked us to do. She wanted to do iui after she seen two of my levels go down. We ended up with a surprised pregnancy 1 month after seeing her. We let them know and they were so excited for us. We highly recommend a visit.
Dr. Mckinney, Nichole, Jennifer, Patty, and the entire staff at Tulsa Fertility Center are amazing. We could not have asked for a better experience after receiving news no couple wants to hear. Dr. Mckinney cares deeply about the outcome for your family. She and her staff are always professional, sacrifice things in their personal lives to ensure you always receive the best care, and never give up hope for your future family. They want what you want and it is very obvious in the way they treat you. Dr. Mckinney listened to us and never made us feel pressured to do something we didnt feel comfortable doing. She is honest and up front with everything regarding your care. She never gave up hope and was willing to try new things to give us a better chance for success. Nichole and Jennifer are available to answer any questions you have and get back to you in a timely manner. Over the past year and through 3 rounds of IVF they have become like family. From the day we walked in the door we felt welcome and comfortable and knew this is the best place we could be for the future of our family. My husband and I cant say enough positive things about Dr. Mckinney and the entire staff at TFC. If you are looking for a place to grow your family, Tulsa Fertility Center is by far the best place to do that.
Dr. Shauna McKinney at the staff at TFC have been amazing through my process with them. I met Dr. McKinney in September and just had an abdominal myomectomy on December 17th. She walked me through the entire process and gave me a real education on my options so I could choose with as much information as possible. The nursing staff as very friendly to me and I have never had a negative encounter. TFC notifies you that you are to use the Patient Portal for most communications and they also communicate the charges due. I knew in advance how much I would need to pay when I came in for pre-op. I was also given information on how much would be covered from insurance vs. how much is an anticipated out of pocket expense. I would definitely recommentd Dr. McKinney and staff at TFC.
Hi, I have had the pleasure of having Dr. McKinney and her staff assist my spouse and I through IVF. We live hours away from the office and Dr. McKinney and her staff has worked with us. I could not say enough positive things about this Doctors office. Dr. McKinney is so very caring and made sure we understood everything that was going to happen. They take the time to walk you through everything and they never get impatient. I would refer any relatives or friends or even people I do not know to give this office a try. Thanks to them we have a healthy beautiful girl, she is our world. This would not have been possible without Dr. McKinney and her wonderful staff.
I have read some of these reviews and am totally taken back. TFC has been nothing short of amazing! EVERY single person in this office has gone above and beyond to help us with everything weve needed. Dr. McKinney has been super informative and made us 100% confident that we were in the best hands. If I could go to this clinic for everything, I would! I had to see Dr. Prough in one of my visits and he was just as friendly, funny and informative. The nursing staff, financial staff, donor program staff and phlebotomy staff are all wonderful! I would ABSOLUTELY, a million times over, recommend this clinic for any of your fertility needs...
My husband and I came here in hopes of getting some answers and doing a treatment that worked for us. After one full cycle of treatment, we are expecting! Dr. McKinney and her team were always incredibly supportive, answered questions, and gave us hope. We recommend TFC to anyone looking to expand their family!
We were told a year ago in February that my husband was infertile due to his liver disease And he was shooting blanks. They want to do more tests for 800$ each with BCBS insurance to clarify..10 months later we found out we were pregnant.I would not trust their testings cause all they are is all about money... Now were 21 weeks unexpectedly pregnant with a baby girl. That was concieve naturally with no help.
I did not plan to share a review on Tulsa Fertility Center and Dr. Shauna McKinney, since it has been over two years and my wife is now successful with Dr. Amols. But I think sharing our experience may help many people in a similar situation. The results with Dr. Shauna McKinney: 22 eggs were retrieved, and only 10 were mature, 1 egg was successfully fertilized, and genetic testing showed the only fertized egg was bad. No transfer was performed as there was no embryos. My wife had a severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) and it was an ordeal to suffer through an extended period of time. This result was highly abnormal. For comparison, we had been with three doctors, and the other two were Dr. Batres and Dr. Amols. With Dr. Batres, we had 20 eggs successfully retrieved and 18 were successfully fertilized, and 10 survived into blastocysts. With Dr. Amols, we had 33 eggs retrieved, 28 fertilized, 14 survived into blastocysts. And there was no OHSS with either of these doctors. In retrospect, it became obvious that the failure with Dr. McKinney was more due to her negligience. She canceled a very critical ultrasound appointment before egg retrieval instead of asking other doctors to do it because she had a personal business. Throughout the process, she didnt make any changes to the doses of the medicine, where both of other doctors had adjusted the medicine for at least once based on the ultrasound results. In summary, I would recommend anyone who care about the results and the well being of their partner to stay away from Dr. McKinney. She is just a horrible person, and of course, an incompetent and irresponsible doctor, who does not seem to understand the impact of their actions on the lives of her patients.
We went through nearly a year of treatments, all together. Several rounds of IUI, and IVF in the end. TFC was amazing, and especially Dr. McKinney helped me through some of my darkest moments of uncertainty in the fight for biological children. She was never negative, and never discouraged me from pursuing motherhood, even though we had no idea why nothing was working. Until it did. I have this memory of the day of our transfer, seeing a picture of boy/girl twins, in her office. We were discussing our 8 remaining embryo-babies” in the moments before transfer, seeing that picture of twins, I started crying, got goosebumps, all the things. Twins, in my mind, were for the “lucky ones” - not couples like us. I was waiting on a miracle, and a half an hour later, our babies were transferred. 8 weeks later we saw two heartbeats on ultrasound. We had our miracles. All thanks to Dr. McKinney and TFC. We will be forever grateful. 🙏🏻
My experience with TFC specifically Dr.Shauna and her staff has always been nothing short of amazing and I don’t say that lightly. I had experienced a tremendous multiple - loss pregnancy prior to seeing her and the care and comfort and expert medical care I was given was exactly the combination of care and love I needed. I recommend her to anyone I know that is having struggles with TTC. I wish I could give a million stars to this review but even that would fall short on the appreciation of what this amazing Dr and her staff do each and every day. The whole team there at TFC is incredible. If your thinking of reaching out please consider her and her team as I truly believe they are the best.
Reading all the reviews, I’m taken aback by the hostile and negative comments. Particularly those saying the clinic pushes IVF. This is an infertility clinic. The majority of people likely will have improved odds of pregnancy with IVF. We were told from the get go our chances would be better with IVF but we could try IUI first if we preferred. We did. After 3 IUI cycles and no baby, we were pregnant with our first IVF cycle. Dr Prough is extremely intelligent and empathetic. He sat and cried with me on numerous occasions. He shared in our highs and lows. I cannot recommend this clinic enough and hope people listen to the good reviews and take the bad ones with a grain of salt.
In the event you are considering IVF, please avoid this clinic at all costs! We had been trying to get pregnant unsuccessfully for about 15 months when we contacted Tulsa Fertility (we went to them largely because they were the closest option to us — we live in Northwest Arkansas). Throughout the entire process we were A) treated poorly by the majority of the staff, B) fed difficult-to-follow medical jargon by Dr. Prough, and C) pushed strongly in the direction of IVF, which in hindsight was not the proper recommendation for us (I feel it highly likely that this clinic’s business model is to suggest IVF to every patient who walks through the door, trying to maximize revenue with a $20k procedure that many of the patients don’t even need). Below are some bullet points regarding our experience:- Nearly every staff member was difficult to deal with. About 24 hours prior to our consultation with the doctor, we received a phone call from a nurse, stating that we had to reschedule the appointment because we didn’t complete some blood work that they never told us we needed to complete, and that wasn’t actually required for our consultation. After about an hour spent on the phone trying to explain our situation to various incompetent employees, I finally reached a supervisor who allowed us to keep our appointment. I did not, however, get that hour of my life back.- I would give Dr. Prough about 4 out of 5 stars when it comes to knowledge regarding infertility, and 0 out of 5 stars when it comes to understandably relaying any of that knowledge to the layperson. I don’t know if he is intentionally trying to confuse his patients in an effort to seem smarter, but he certainly doesn’t seem to enjoy going out of his way to make sure anyone in the room understands him. He also seems trigger-happy when it comes to IVF. Though my wife and I have gotten pregnant naturally on two separate occasions, he diagnosed me as effectively “infertile” due to a low morphology score which, as we found out at a separate clinic, isn’t even particularly low. These people make an obscene amount of money off of IVF treatment (and the price they quoted us was significantly higher than the national average), and it seems like they are suggesting IVF to patients who may not necessarily need it, just so they can make a little extra cash.- Finally, the vast majority of the staff at this clinic does not seem particularly fond of the male gender. Though I attended every appointment with my wife, I began to question my physical existence while in this office. Multiple staff members would enter the triage room where we were seated, greet my wife, ask her to follow them, and leave me wondering whether A) they legitimately had something they needed to talk with my wife about alone, or B) like George Bailey from It’s a Wonderful Life, I had slipped into some separate dimension where I could be neither seen nor heard. If you’ve lasted to this point in the review, I applaud you for your perseverance, and beg you with every fiber of my soul to strongly consider every other possible option before entering this clinic. You can do much, much better. Finally, I almost forgot, but when I asked one of the nurses what their IVF success rate is, her reply was “I think Dr. Prough said it was about 60%.” After doing my own research, it turns out their success rate is closer to 40%, while the national average is around 55%. If you are considering IVF, please do a google search for “IVF success rates in [whatever state you live in]”. This gives you a great, objective sense for your chances of conceiving with the help of that clinic.
My advice for people seeking fertility treatment in the Tulsa area: go somewhere else. We worked with Dr. McKinney for over a year, and throughout the entire process, were provided nothing but incomplete information and frustration. To be clear, this review and our experience would be the same regardless of the outcome. We did not get pregnant after 2 cycles of IVF, but I’ve been planning to write this review regardless of the outcome.I am very surprised at the number of positive reviews for TFC because our experience was mostly frustrating. We had started IUI cycles before we moved to Oklahoma, and our initial impression of TFC was very positive due to their organized process. Unfortunately, that process is not flexible for those who have already undergone treatments elsewhere. Problems with starting their treatment after starting at another clinic was the beginning of our tiresome journey, and I wish we had moved to a different clinic when these problems first arose. At our initial visit, we were instructed to complete our lab work and then we’d be able to schedule our treatment. After not hearing back for two weeks, the nurse asked me to schedule a follow-up visit, which we had been told we didn’t need to do. In addition, I was assured that all of our previous records had been received, but in this two-week-later communication, was told that in fact, not all of the records were received. TFC was missing my most recent pap smear and my boyfriend’s test results. You would think that it would be simple for one professional to be in contact with another to ensure that all these records had been received. Instead, I wasn’t notified until two weeks after-the-fact, after being told that everything had been received, that they were missing my Pap smear result. In all, it took 6 weeks and at least 10-20 phone calls on my part to get that last little bit of information transferred, which of course, delayed our treatment for two months. It’s entirely possible that these were my last fertile months; my bloodwork afterward showed a decreased hormone level.Like many of the reviews indicate, the staff seems very nice, but they are fairly insensitive. I underwent many IUIs and two IVFs without any significant pain, so I’m not a wimp. However, there was one procedure after which I experienced such extreme cramping, I had tears in my eyes and could barely stand up. I hobbled out of my exam room and asked if they had any Tylenol or Advil, and not one person looked up from their computer or offered to help me up front. We underwent several IUIs, a cancelled IVF, and a failed IVF before Dr. McKinney happened to mention that in addition to advanced maternal age and low AMH (which was normal before the two-month delay we experienced after starting with TFC), we also had a problem on the male side. His test results indicated that he was on the very low end of the range for a particular number (but in the “normal” range according to the report we have), and we were never told that it was a problem until our post-failed-IVF appointment. Dr. McKinney couldn’t believe that she never mentioned it, and just stated, “Well, that’s why we were doing ICSI,” but did not express any sympathy as to why were upset that we weren’t told specifically prior to that point. Our final IVF cycle failed, and instead of getting a phone call (which they indicate you will receive if it fails), I found out on the portal. Logging into the portal expecting good news (since we didn’t get a phone call), and seeing a blank egg report with the words “no viable embryos” was just beyond words. The only good thing about having completed our cycles with TFC is that we don’t have to deal with them anymore. If we decide to continue treatment, we will travel outside of Oklahoma.
If I could leave a negative star I would! I was using Tulsa Fertility Center to monitor the first two appointments in an IVF cycle. I was using a Fertility clinic with much better results and 30% cheaper. The front office staff was very rude on my first visit. I was met with attitude and eye rolls every time I asked a question. The staff seemed very cold and uncaring when I asked questions. I waited 45 mins past my appointment time for a 60 second ultrasound. I asked the doctor if everything looked good she proceeded to lie and say it did. When my nurse from the clinic called I was told that I had cyst and was upset that I was not told when I asked. Upon my second appointment. I was met with the same attitude at the front desk. I waited well over an hour past my appointment in the room without anyone checking in on me or letting me know why there was a delay. Fertility and IVF a very stressful time for everyone involved. I do not know if I was treated differently because I wasnt pouring thousand of dollars into this clinic. Or if they are like this for everyone! But my advice if your spending this kind of money go somewhere where you will be treated with respect during this stressful and sensitive time. I will never ever recommend this place to anyone. Youve saved this long save an extra 6 months and travel out of state for fertility treatment.
Dr. McKinney, Katy, Dana, and the rest of the staff at Tulsa Fertility were exceptional. We could not be more happy with the care that we received and the attention that we were given. Highly recommend!
Dr. Prough and his staff are the best in providing care and service to their patients. We are so blessed to have gone through the IVF process here. During the process we had a few scares and were seen same day and within hours of messaging on their portal. Dr. Prough is amazing and has such a kind heart. He went through all the emotions with us and gave us piece of mind throughout the process. He even recommended an amazing OBGYN (Dr. Elizabeth Harris) that continued our care.We are forever grateful and blessed to have had him as our doctor. Thank you Dr. Prough and staff.
I did not have a good experience with Tulsa Fertility Center. I have PCOS as well as stage 4 endometriosis. By the time I saw Dr. McKinney, I had had surgery for the endo and had been on clomid for over 18 months with no success. We had been trying to conceive for around 4 years. When I did see Dr. McKinney, she had not reviewed my charts sent from my previous doctor. We were charged $100 co-pay- $50 a piece for my husband and for myself because they said that we were considered two patients because it takes the egg and the sperm. All they did was take a history, which they had, get my weight, and take my blood pressure. This was frustrating because we knew that my husband had no issues. He had already had testing done and they had the results. She recommended an ovarian assessment test and that we go with IUI. She did not want to do another laparoscopic procedure even though it had been 2 years since my original surgery. She said that she was sure that there was no blockage in my tubes. I decided to get a second opinion. I saw a doctor that had reviewed my history, gave me a full physical, including a pap and an ultrasound, and only charged us our usual $35 co-pay. As it turns out, clomid is like steroids for my disease. Both of my tubes were completely blocked. IUI would have be a HUGE WASTE of money and would NEVER have worked because my tubes were blocked. I was recommended to have surgery for the endo, following with 3 months of lupron and then try a round of IVF. I am currently pregnant with twins. Dr. Mckinneys approach was poor advise and I am glad that I found another fertility doctor in Tulsa.
I highly recommend Dr. McKinney and the staff at TFCInfertility sucks!!! But Dr.McKinney gave me hope. If you are looking for a great doctor that has knowledge Dr McKinney @ TFC is where you need to go. We have 4 beautiful kiddos. Thanks to Dr McKinney!
Dr. Prough is literally my favorite, I have been living with pain for 4 years from endometriosis and for the 1st time since it started I have been pain free for 2 months thanks to him, his office staff and the company of the medication that they prescribed me. This is just one step on my way to a new baby but its a step I finally got to take thanks to them. There is still a long process ahead but to be pain free is a great gift so far and I cant wait to see what is next!
We tried everything without success for over 5 years. After Dr. Blackwell and her excellent team, we now have identical twin girls!I understand everyones experience with this very personal issue is different, but you cannot find a better team of people to help you get to your end goal. The TFC staff is kind, professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. We saw Dr. B almost every time we were there. After each failed attempt of IVF, she called us personally and was over the moon with us when we were finally successful. The patient education class teaches you how to give yourself, or your partner, injections, walks you through every step of the process, and answer your many questions. I never felt anyone was irritated with me, and I called ALOT. They were patient and kind. You wont regret going here.
Luckily, we were successful in our second round of IVF here with Dr. Prough, but if I were to honestly rate the entire experience and staff I have to go with 3/5. The front desk position has fortunately changed, but during the first year of visits, the woman who worked at the front desk was brutal. I see she is mentioned several times in these reviews (I assume they are referring to the same person as I am). Not necessarily a huge deal, but I will say that the overall culture of the office was problematic. Many of the staff members were cold and unfriendly. Women and couples are so vulnerable during this time in their lives and the attitudes of the people in the clinic can make a big difference. Dr. Prough was probably the friendliest person we regularly interfaced with, actually. My other critiques would be:-the website is clunky and slow to navigate and the messaging system is strange because you cannot reply to messages. You have to create a new message to reply....very odd. Also, you dont receive email or text notifications whenever you receive a message in the portal so you have to continually login and check the website or app to see if youve received anything new. Plus, you have to click through the same pages every.single.time (re insurance changes, etc.) that you log in. Also, they should make receipts and payment history available on the website. The payment system is odd in which you just type in the amount you want to pay, but there are no invoices or details showing what exactly youre paying for.-Dr. Prough told me that there was nothing I could do to improve my chances of success in terms of diet or lifestyle changes, supplements, etc. I understand that his job is to use clinically proven data, but I do believe he could be more progressive and open-minded in recommending things that *could* help and do not have any downsides, like positive diet and lifestyle changes. I did my own research and implemented changes for several months prior to my second round of IVF and got several more eggs and clearly better quality because 2 of the 5 embryos worked and are now my two very healthy, beautiful children! The first round of IVF only resulted in two viable embryos and I quickly miscarried. I know there is no way to prove that my personal changes were the reason for the huge improvement in eggs/embryos but if I were to do it again, I would have implemented those changes prior to the first round of ($20k!) IVF and I maybe couldve saved myself from the second round of very expensive IVF. :)
While I love Dr. Mckinney, the communication from this clinic is horrible. I had called and tried to schedule my Pap smear last year, as I believed it was time, got the appointment scheduled, and showed up on the day of my appointment only to be told that it had been cancelled because it was not time for my Pap smear yet. No one had called to let me know this appointment was being cancelled, and as I was only in town for Christmas break from graduate school and trying to fit in my appointment, this was frustrating. When it finally was time for my Pap smear, I had called to set up another appointment and no one returned my call. When I called for a 2nd time, I finally told the front desk what had happened and they actually grabbed the nurse to come get on the phone and make an appointment with me that time. Once I finally went to the appointment and got my Pap smear done I waited 5 weeks and no one called to let me know the results of the Pap. I logged onto My Portal only to see there was a Request Error under my recent Pap smear results and now I have no clue if my Pap smear was adequately gathered and read at the lab or not. I am back in PA School now, out of state, and it is incredibly difficult to find another physician out of state, and still in network, who can do this. And to have to come back to another state to get my Pap smear done again is ridiculous, frustrating, and not feasible. The lack of communication from the clinic to me, the patient, honestly makes me feel unsafe. And, as someone graduating from Physician Assistant School and who has worked in healthcare her whole life, I know what good patient communication looks like and this is NOT it.
I will not go into my personal story, but I highly recommend Dr. Bundren! He diagnosed me with a uterine septum within 20 mins of reviewing my file. I have spent thousands of dollars here doing treatments without any knowledge of having a 13 mm septum (which completely split my uterus in to two separate uteruses). I had NO chance of getting pregnant. They took advantage of the fact that I was young. They also put negative comments regarding me in the notes.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. McKinney and her whole team! They cried with me when I was heartbroken and hopeless. Then we got to celebrate together when I shared the news that we are having a boy! Going to miss seeing them every week but can’t wait to keep them updated.
Why cant I give 0 stars? One is generous. Staff is rude from the moment we walked in. No greeting, no pleasantries. At the end of the appointment with the doctor, we sat there for 15 mins waiting for the nurse to come in with the lab orders. I walked out of the room and stated that I had to return to work. I was told the nurse was coming with the orders. Okay, whatever. Then I hear them mocking me in their condescending tone. Woman 1: she has to return to work. Woman 2: As do I. Woman 3: As do I. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful. On top of that, its $290 for the initial visit. Which is fine, because were done and not going back.
Dr Mckinney was my wifes Doctor and mine, She is a very nice person and very understanding lady. Her Nurse was Gail elliot was the best, I would call and she would call me back with in the hour. Please Go see Dr. Mckinney she is just wonderful! We are due Feb 28th Thanks to Dr. Mckinney!
If youre looking for an amazing fertility clinic this is it! The staff here as been nothing but amazing!! I truly believe Dr. Prough and Dr. mckinney sincerely want to get you pregnant. Everyone from the front desk, phlebotomist, lab, financial team are very friendly and go above and beyond. I highly recommend Tulsa fertility center !
Dont usually post reviews. This place has either poor communication skills or poor training. Nursing staff not friendly, they will make you pay at time of services and then also send you a bill. Not a place I would recommend to others struggling with fertility issues. Never once felt comfortable or at ease there. So frustrated that I will be going else where to finish testing and see what options I have
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING FOR IVF UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL OF YOUR PRETESTING DONE. WE LOST 7 THOUSAND TO THEM FOR NOTHING.We were told to paid the full cost for IVF treatments before a certain date to lock us into that harvest cycle but we didn’t have all of pretesting done. They bank on this because there is a non refundable 7 thousand dollar fee with IVF. So when our testing came back and we had problems, IVF was no longer an option for us so they refunded our money except they kept the 7 thousand from us even though they did nothing. They kept sending us to LabCorp for labs but Tulsa Fertility office mislabeled one of our labs and it was over a thousand dollars that was worthless. So we had to go back to have the lab redrawn. They didn’t refund us the 1 thousand dollars for their mistake but told us they would give us two vials of the progesterone to make up for the lost thousand dollars. Problem was, we never made it to get the vials and they never gave us the thousand dollars back for their lab mistake. So, we wasted 8 thousand (not to mention all the other appointment fees that nothing came from). They also would go weeks without getting back to us. One would tell us we had an appointment and the other would say no. It was so disappointing and I have told everyone I know to stay away from them. They screwed us out of 8 grand for NOTHING during the most difficult time in our lives (7 thousand fee they don’t give back even though your pretesting isn’t done, plus the 1 thousand dollar mislabeled lab test that they never refunded). This company is awful and I tell everyone to stay far away. Don’t let them screw you out of money when all you’re trying to do is have a baby.
Beware! If you are getting a consultation here (like my wife and I did) you will likely get pressured to do IVF as a first option. I get it -- that is what they do -- but I have since found out they were less than forthcoming about what our options truly were. When we took our test results to other doctors they were surprised about what advice we were given here (I have since found out the diagnosis I was given was flat out wrong, and not based on sound medical science). I firmly believe they shaded our test results in favor of IVF being the only viable option for us. We were desperate, and I know you may be as well -- but dont let them dictate what *they* think is your best option. Look at the other reviews here, you see a theme. Be informed about your options and if you get a the sales pressure, take a step back, demand your tests results and take them to other doctors for a 2nd or 3rd opinion.
PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS PLACE RIP YOU OFF!!!!!We went in for preliminary basic sperm count fertility issues and they ordered over $4,000 in husband AND wife (why wife for sperm issues) genetic blood tests, which have nothing to do with our issue. And then told us that our BCBS insurance would cover all except for $100.Its so sad that there are doctors like this in Tulsa, taking advantage of people in very difficult times.Oh and Dr. Stanley G Purgh there, is one of the most pretentious, self glorifying docs youll ever hate having to meet.
Dr. McKinney and her staff spent so much time getting to know us personally. They helped us achieve our dream Christmas Miracle.♥️
My wife and I used Tulsa Fertility Center a few months back, They were very professional and helpful. We were most thankful for the honesty and integrity they showed toward my wife and I. I have no problem extending a huge recommendation to anyone looking to use this organization.
Dr.McKinney and her entire staff are exceptional! I would and will refer them to anyone in need of fertility services.
So far so good, this is my first fertility treatment. I had a boy 6 years ago naturally. Been ttc 3 years.
Very unprofessional. Gave inaccurate information. Initial visit is portrayed as an actual beneficial meeting, so save your $290 because you will get explanations that are found on Google.
Amazing staff and super friendly, nice clean environment!
We consulted with Dr. McKinney and she is an awesome doctor. The doctor and the staff are all friendly, nice and very comforting.
If I could also leave anything less I would. Staff was not helpful and rude! I would not want my worst enemy going here. Please do your research before going here!
Horrible experience, no clear communication of what is going to happen, make you pay after every visit which was fine but then bill you for more money
The worst place ever, they just want your money no help at all, dont go there.
After Reading this reviews Ill go somewhere else....Thanks but no thanks
I am happy to have gone here
Because very nice people and repectful
With patience and perseverance you achieve your goal, nothing is perfect but the staff is professional and Dr. Prought is EXCELLENT, thanks to him I have a beautiful princess at home. Apart from this, prepare your wallet, it is not cheap.
