Shoutout to this clinic! In many ways have they made me feel comfortable and safe with my overall health. From someone who is barely knowing about fertility, ovulation, etc. The overall communication, responses time, and visits are overall amazing. Ms.Vee has been very patient and attentive to my goal/needs. Front office ladies are polite and help me with any questions I have to ask. If you’re looking for a lady doctor I would recommend this place hands down.
The office is extremely disorganized, leading to long waits both on the phone and for in-person appointments. I had to repeatedly call the doctor for a follow-up on an ultrasound they had for over a week, all while I was in pain and anxiously awaiting results. If you can get in touch with a doctor, they are nice. However, I would suggest saving yourself the frustration and choosing a healthcare provider who values your time, is well-organized, and is attentive to your needs.
Dr. Martha Schmitz is nice, but the office is not very organized. Every time I’ve come in I wait close to an hour to be seen, and once they called on my way to my appointment to reschedule later that day. I ended up taking a half day to make that time work and I still waited 50 minutes after my appointment time. They don’t seem to be very considerate of patient’s time, and this has happened on multiple occasions.
I love this clinic! They are super helpful and quick to book you an appointment. Dr. Vi is the best and walked me through every step of the appointment.
Charged a $50 fee for missing a nurse visit to receive a shot. May not seem like much, but to some people, like me, it is. My mother is undergoing chemotherapy and it has been a struggle to balance work and helping her, so it slipped my mind. I delayed paying it a few days until I was paid, and they charged my card. If you show up on time to your appointments, you usually have to wait 30+ minutes to be seen as well.
I went there in the past. I am post menopausal and wanted to find out about hormone replacement. When I called to make an appointment, I gave them my health insurance info and they said I was covered. The day I went to my appointment, at first it was highly difficult to even find the office. Once in the exam room and the OBGYN came in, I instantly felt uncomfortable. She has a bit of an aggressive personality, did not seem concerned about the cramping pain I was in, the exam was a bit rough.Ive had 4 kids, and Ive had many pelvic exams in the past, and this one was a nightmare to me.They did blood work and told me to come back for the results. So, as much as I did not want to go back there, I went in for the blood results appointment. She was planning to prescribe compounded hormone replacement and decided to tell me to go to a particular pharmacy that she liked. But that one is around an hour away from me, not to mention the traffic. I told her it was too far and asked about any other pharmacies that are closer to me. She instantly got defensive saying I would save money, that it was cheaper. I said it was too far, I might get lost, then she went into an area of conversation that i wasnt expecting saying to me--- do you feel lost all the time? are you lost in your mind?, things like that. I felt shocked and more uncomfortable. After getting home I looked into pharmacies closer to me and found a couple. Then her office called saying I owed them $600, that my 2 visits were not covered by my insurance. I ended up reporting her to my insurance.I will never return there.
Great visit and plan on staying while living in austin! they are so kind and helpful. great attitudes and want what’s best for their patients!
*note, this experience was in 2022, but given the way the country has gone since then I felt it important for other Austin women like me to see this and stay awayWill not return. Long wait and a very judgmental doctor who told me I would “change my mind” about not wanting kids someday. Very invalidating and disappointing to be spoken to like a child when I’m a 30 year old woman. It’s the 21st century, women can make their own choices about their body and this is highly inappropriate behavior for a medical “professional”. Get real.
What a wonderful clinic! Firstly this place is clearly marked. Parking is easy. And I had no problems finding the office which was a relief in and of itself. I was seen 3 minutes after I checked in. NP Howard is one of the most kind doctors I’ve had the pleasure of seeing. Her bedside manner is unmatched. She really and truly cares and takes her time during the appointment. She made me feel comfortable and was so efficient. This isn’t the most fun appointment but NP Howard was quick and very communicative. Highly recommend checking her out for your wellness needs!
Horrible experience. After waiting for over an hour for my scheduled appointment, I asked the receptionist if she knew how much longer I would be expected to wait. She said the doctor was about to go into a procedure and guessed it would be at least another 30 minutes. No one even communicated or apologized for the delay after I was left waiting over an hour after my appointment time. Ended up leaving, will not be returning.
My appointment didn’t happen. I waited an hour, a nurse came into my appointment without knocking 3x, I had to move rooms because they just placed me in one so I wasn’t in the waiting room, I couldn’t see the doctor for my first appointment, and then I ended up leaving due to the discomfort. all around a waste of time and uncomfortable
Had an appointment 6/19/23 at the appointment Dr. Martha Schmitz decided to try to tell me I need natural remedies to help with my back pain (I have scoliosis and disc issues). She is an OB, not a back/pain specialist (which I was already seeing. Fast forward, 6 months later, I need a refill for my birth control, so I message her and she apparently has to record of me ever coming into the office. I then sent her a screenshot of the medication that she prescribed me (it said her name and the address on the screenshot) and she proceeds to tell me that I need another appointment. With it not being a year, my insurance would change for the appointment. It is not my fault that they do not have me in the system, when in fact, I did go.I do not recommend, I wasnt going to go back after my appointment and I will for sure not go back now.
Had to make an urgent appointment shortly after my move to Austin and picked this clinic based on location and availability. Long story short - no regrets here! Dr. Schmitz and the whole team are attentive, caring, and my appointment DID NOT FEEL RUSHED. Dr. Schmitz also took the time to locate, suggest, and thoroughly explain affordable care options. I’m pleased to have found a great team that I feel comfortable being cared after. Give them a go!
If you are someone who has a lot of anxiety and need communication on what’s going on with not only billing information but pregnancy updates. When you come to the doctors office you trust that your doctor will tell you if she or he has any concerns right? Apparently during my ultrasound today my doctor mentioned she had some concerns with my labs but now that she sees the ultrasound she’s so glad there were no more concerns. I had my labs done several weeks ago if there was a concern this should have been brought to my attention yet all her info in my chart states it’s all fine. My first appointment was a cash patient as my insurance was not active yet. They charged me $250 at the beginning then by the end of the appointment I was waived out and told to have a good day. 2 days before Christmas they charge my card $525 no phone call regarding a bill only calls stating my labs were ready. So please make sure to use the patient portal because that’s how they communicate and there is no option to that. I got one invoice through there. When I called I was extremely upset. As I was left broke. I’m not someone who just has that extra. When I called I was then told they would refund me $300 but sure enough they only refunded me $250. I called in after about a week and a half to ask what the training for this was. The front desk person then read me the notes in the chart stating they had put a hold on that because I was to callBack and make payment arrangements. This is when I started to get angry the manager I spoke with originally was on vacation and wouldn’t be back for a week. After waiting for the week the manager did not call back so I had to be the patient that calls again to get this fixed. After explaining how I was not understanding why these holds were being put on my card I was told she discounted the balance as a courtesy but she could take that off and cancel my appointment if I would like. Even those all of these mistakes were on the office and not the patient I have yet to receive an apology at the very least. The doctor was not compassionate at all and in fact made me so uncomfortable I couldn’t event look at her directly I felt of conscious because this office gaslighted me. They ONLY reason I stayed for this one was because I wanted to make sure my baby was healthy before finding someone else. I have never in my life written a review but this office is not to be trusted. And the doctor will not have your back she will make you feel small if you have a complaint. I don’t recommend anyone who needs or wants that happy warm feeling or a trustworthy staff or doctor especially if you have anxiety already.
Both the nurse taking my statistics and history, and the nurse practitioner listened and interacted with courtesy and attention. I felt welcome and assured of their expert competency.Barbara Howard was informative and receptive to my concerns. She was completely professional and gentle.I will never have my “womanly” care from another provider! I am so thankful to have found an office that treats a person as an individual instead of just another task for the day.THANK YOU!!!
I want to preface by saying in my many years of life I have never felt the need to write a review... until I came across this place. This is probably the most unprofessional establishment I have ever been in. I made an appointment. Then got an email saying it was canceled. I called to find out they had staff issues. So I said okay and rescheduled. This happened twice.... I finally got an appointment confirmed after about 4 weeks of back and forth from the office canceling. They sent me an email the day before my appointment asking me to confirm. I confirmed via email the appointment. The day of the appointment was an ice storm... so I drive 30 minutes there ( after NO ONE answered the phone when I tried to call and confirm their office was open). Once I got there, to my surprise, they were open. Immediately the lady at the front desk starts complaining she has to work the front desk for the day. I thought it was a bit tacky but hoped the doctor would be more professional. Two minutes after checking in, the rude lady at the front desk tells me because I did not respond to a text message they had to cancel my appointment for the day.... EVEN though I had confirmed via email and heard NO information that I had to respond to a magical text message to avoid cancelation. Additionally, HAD SOMEONE told me that, I absolutely would have responded. Then she had the nerve to mention that the roads were bad for staff. Yeah and IMAGINE someone who is a sick patient traveling and paying YOU having to take those same roads. Common courtesy is at the very least to call the patient ahead of time to cancel.I am in awe at how completely unprofessional and frankly how much of a joke the place is. Even going into the office the office looked unclean and run down. I will consider it a blessing that they canceled so unprofessionally. BEWARE and I wouldnt waste my time with this place. There are better places in Austin that treat their patients with more courtesy.PS - Check their Yelp reviews. They are much more accurate.
I have been a patient here for a year and absolutely love it! They are always very attentive and on schedule. I am pregnant with my first baby now and the experience so far is definitely 5 stars!Update: I had my son and although his birth didn’t go as planned, I ended up having a c-section, Dr. Schmitz was wonderful throughout all of it. Soon after I was admitted for my scheduled induction, she called my room directly to check on me and let me know what would be happening until she arrived. Once she was there she personally checked on us multiple times. When the birthing plan suddenly changed and a c-section was needed, she did an amazing job keeping me calm and at ease.
Ms. Barbara is doing the Lord’s work out here. She is efficient and compassionate. I always feel comfortable with her during an otherwise uncomfortable exam. She makes sure your health and needs are met. Ms. Barbara is an excellent practitioner!
GREAT: Dr. Schmitz and Ms. Howard are attentive, knowledgable, and caring providers. I have been with them for over two years and love my experience with them as practitioners.COULD BE BETTER: The patient history system has changed a few times since Ive been with Austin Spring Womens Health, which has been a little frustrating. Ive had to re-fill out my patient history multiple times and have had my appointments lost. I am seen consistently about 45 minutes past my scheduled appointment time-be prepared to wait!
Dr. Schmitz is wonderful. She took time to read my chart and went over my whole health history. She treated me like a person, not like a problem that needs to be fixed. She answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns fully. Super knowledgeable, kind, informative and professional; I can’t ask fir a better doctor. Her office staff is friendly and prompt and professional. All staff wore masks and didn’t shift them while doing direct patient care. The office is clean, not cluttered, social distance is easy to maintain. Parking lot was open and building is beautiful with lots of greenery. The whole experience was top notch.
Ms. Howard was amazing! She really took the time to talk to me and address my questions and concerns. She was professional, attentive and very calming. She made my experience there very nice. I will definitely be back and will request her!
Terrible. Bad experience with Dr Martha Schmitz and front desk staff. First off, the front desk woman was being rude and confused because as she said my insurance was not “one of the more popular companies”. I had checked with my insurance and the visit was supposed to be covered with a $15 copay. Since the clueless front desk people were so “confused”, I ended up being billed $250 for my one annual exam visit. Then during my doctors visit, Dr Martha Schmitz spent most of her time with me lecturing me about my weight/eating habits and marijuana use. I did not schedule a therapy appointment so I’m not sure why those were the most talked about subjects. And she was rough and careless during the Pap smear. Stay away, go to Austin Regional Clinic.
Mrs. Howard was very nice, knowledgeable & took her time with me. She showed me the proper way to do a self breast exam & didnt make me feel rushed. Shes the first PA to ever ask when my granny was diagnosed with breast cancer. No doctor has ever asked me that, in fact Ive always been told that since it was my dads mom I didnt have to worry about best cancer. That really made me heard & cared for.
Dr. Schmitz is the best doctor Ive ever had the pleasure of visiting. She always shows shes listening, and she really cares a lot about her patients. Even the communications with office staff are great, because you can do everything through the portal and dont have to have any phone calls if you dont want to.
Expensive Practice, Limited Care, Patient NeglectMy first pregnancy. I do not recommend this place for first time mamas or anyone who values their time or anyone who doesn’t want to feel like just a number and a dollar sign. I’ve never experienced such an unusual practice. I initially chose Austin Springs Women’s Health because of the good reviews for Dr. Martha Schmitz. It’s not the most high-tech facility but I kinda liked the mom and pop feel to it…at first. This is my first pregnancy which comes with a lot of questions and anxieties. At first, Ms. Howard and the staff seemed to be very thorough. I really liked that they offered a lot of testing and seemed to be very proactive. As my pregnancy progressed their staff started to drop like flies (now I know why)…my files, test results, insurance claims and much more got lost in translation and each appointment felt like the very first one. Attached with one big price tag! Not to mention I had to wait to see someone for at least an hour after my schedule appointments and spent at least 2hrs there for a 10 min/rushed visit from Dr Schmitz who didn’t seem to even remember a single thing about me or my pregnancy. I had to answer the same questions over and over and constantly advocate for myself in ways I shouldn’t have. Dr. Schmidt was overbooked and tired and honestly out of it most of the time. Even if she was being carried by her team… her team was blunt and rude and very adamant about payment which made the experience even more sour. I did a transfer of care at 36 weeks pregnant because I was so over the way I was being treated. Wish I would have made that switch way sooner.
Barbara Howard was wonderful! I was having some issues that were hard to figure out but she never gave up and truly cared about finding an answer. She was also very responsive to messages I sent her via the patient portal. Would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Staff at the front are always kind and helpful.Dr. Barbara Howard is a saint! She put my copper IUD in and was so encouraging and calming through the insertion. I’ve been in the office 4 times now and have had great experiences every time.
I was a patient here for two years, I will never return. First I was told that my Pap smear was “lost” and the staff tried to tell me I “must have forgotten or gotten confused”, I did not forget my pap. Women do not forget this unpleasant visit. After that I was SHAMED by both doctors and the nurse practitioner, and was not able to receive the antibiotics I needed until I came back for a $60 lecture due to the co pay.
I personally love Barbara and Dr. Schmitz and the lady that draws my labs is great. Unfortunately, I haven’t had very great encounters with the front desk. They seem to be unpleasant and lack a bit of customer service skills, in person and over the phone, if you can get ahold of anyone they put you on hold and you can hear people talking. Not so pleasant..
I just started going to Dr. Schmitz and Barb earlier this year for an IUD consultation and Im so glad I did! Ive had a multitude of health problems since and they have shown the utmost care as I was in and out of the hospital for months. My name was on alert in their system so they knew every time I was being admitted to the ER. Dr. Schmitz would personally call me and she helped me so much with advice while I was in the hospital as well as my follow up care. In person, they are amazing. You can tell they truly care for their patients and they have a great bedside manner. I actually had FUN during my pap with Barb! Also, I want to give a shout out to Maritza, who held my hand during a recent procedure. :) In short, I dont think I could recommend an OBGYN practice more than this one.
Dr. Schmitz is a very down to earth, kind and considerate doctor. We spoke at length about my questions and she was helpful and unrushed. I really love her nurse practioner, Barb, too! I highly recommend this practice.
I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Schmitz and Ms. Howard at Austin Springs. They give the most compassionate, patient centered care Ive ever experienced.Dr. Schmitz did a successful version for my breech baby 6 years ago and has since been just the warmest, kindest provider. When I was going to have my 3rd IUD inserted, I let Ms. Howard know that the previous two times had been pretty traumatic (those happened at other practices), and she listened so carefully and approached me and the procedure with such tenderness and compassion. In fact, the insertion was NOT at all painful, which I never thought could be the case.Everyone deserves this level of care. A huge thanks to the Austin Springs office for showing how healthcare can and should be delivered.
Great medical office, wonderful and warm experience from start to finish. I appreciate Ms. Barbara Howard for taking time to go over the process clearly and treatment options. She combined such personal touches and care for me with outstanding quality of medical care. I highly recommend becoming her patient!
Dr. Schmitz has always made me feel important and not just another number in her office waiting to be seen. Her plate is always full but she never fails to ask at the end of each visit..... do you have any other questions or concerns we need to address? Love her and very thankful for her and her entire team.
Dr. Schmitz is amazing! It took me 3 years to find her after my previous gynecologist retired after seeing her for 23 years. She is caring, takes her time with her patients, very thorough. The office staff, including the phlebotomist, are so nice and helpful. She reminds me so much of my last gynecologist that I loved and I’m happy to say I’ve found my forever gynecologist... until she retires on me. Do yourself a favor and go make her your gynecologist.
I LOVE Ms. Howard and her team , I have been going to this office for a little over a year and can finally say I have found my home OB/GYN office. I refuse to see anybody else but Ms. Howard she has definitely changed my perspective on going to the OB/GYN because the other nurse practitioners I’ve seen at other offices did not provide me the comfort Ms Howard has. She is well spoken, informative and has a warm nice personality. I definitely would recommend to get your care at austin springs women’s health.
Ms. Howard was extremely thorough and personable during my visit. I felt that she gave me her full attention and I did not feel rushed (like I often have at other doctors offices). I was able to get an appointment quickly and I am really happy that I found Austin Springs!
She is the best Doctor ever. She is like my second mother because she has taken very good care of me and delivered each of my three kiddos. Not only that she caught my moms breast cancer in time . Yes it takes time to see her but if you want quality care then it’s a price worth waiting for !!
I genuinely love Austin Springs Women’s Health. My first time here was last year as a recent transplant to Austin. I felt at home and comfortable immediately during my exam with Ms. Barb, and she asked questions about my health in a more kind and understanding way than I had ever experienced. There is a warmth and genuine air of caring at ASWH, and I am so thankful to have happened upon this office!
Love seeing NP Barbara Howard! She makes every appointment a breeze and has such a warm and welcoming personality! Im usually in and out with not much of a wait time & i like using the patient portal.
Dr Schmitz and NP. Barbara have been so supportive and patient with these first time parents. The office staff is always so kind and we never wait long. Love the patient portal too. Excellent place!
Ms. Howard was fantastic. She has an amazing bedside manner, made me feel seen, heard and addressed all my questions and then some. She brought up things I didnt even think to ask, and we thoroughly discussed everything. I didnt feel rushed or swept under the rug. I look forward to coming back next year for my annual!
Miss Barbara Howard, was met my expectations. She is a reliable Provider. I love this woman. She squeezed me in during my hectic schedule. Look a suitable space for yearly appointment. She is very kind to talk to, I am very comfortable talking to her. This office is just not an office. This a family who taking well care of thier patients. Highy recommended. Thank you Miss Howard. I really appreciated you.
NP Barbara Howard was so warm and respectful. I have never been so comforted during a women’s wellness exam before. I feel better about taking better care of my health and I am inspired by her diligent work ethic. NP Barbara Howard is a true GEM. The front office staff was nice and respectful too.I encourage more to schedule their women’s wellness exam at Austin Springs Women’s health and to be seen by NP Barbara Howard.
I am having my first pregnancy and this was all a new experience for me. The worst experience I have ever had anywhere! The office is located in south Austin but only deliver way north 30 plus minutes away. Doctor Martha S, she never really took the time out to get to know me Or form a relationship with me. She made me feel very uncomfortable. The first day she met me she asked me why I wasnt on birth control and I told her I thought I couldnt get pregnant and she said well you can very rudely and laughed at me. She made me feel ashamed of being a young mom. I would sit in the waiting room for a hour after my appointment was scheduled only to go in for 10-15 minutes, and the front desk ladies are very rude and unprofessional. I couldnt set up a payment plan right away because I am young and just lost my job due to Covid. They told me they were going to send my bill to the debt collector and mess up my credit because I wasnt able to give them any money. As soon as I informed the doctor about my changing of insurance she had no interest in continuing my care. She sent a lady in to have me sign papers to set up a payment plan and suggested I switched doctors right away. This makes me believe its really all about money for this doctors office, the doctors and staff are very rude. They embarrassed me in the waiting room and made me cry. After this experience I chose to switch doctors, I tried to go in and get my medical records and the front desk lady tried to pull me aside and said I still had a fee so I couldnt get my records for my new doctor office. I had my mother call after leaving very upset and then suddenly they called and offered to give me my records for a 20$ payment out of no where. Absolutely the worst obgyn you could choose for care. As soon as I went to my new doctor I felt 100% more comfortable and felt the difference in care. I definitely recommend doing research before choosing ur doctor and look around. I really wish I wouldnt of waisted half of my pregnancy in such a horrible environment.
LOVE seeing NP Barbara! She listens, she is warm, caring, kind and very professional.Pd: Not that matters, but wish the office decor would be more bright and inviting....and warm. The current art is dark and doesnt seem to fit with health and well-being.....just a thought.
Update: after researching, I learned that the practice of withholding lab results and requiring a follow up appt to access lab results is a violation of the 21st Century Cures Act and qualifies as information blocking per legal definition. A Dr is only allowed to withhold lab results if the results could lead the patient to self harm. Not applicable in my case.Beyond frustrated with this clinic. Their policy is to refuse a patient access to their blood work results if anything is flagged as abnormal until the patient has a follow up appointment with a provider to discuss (which can take over a week to schedule and yes, is an extra charge).I didnt know this the first time it happened, I just got a call saying the Dr would like to schedule a follow up to discuss my results. They couldnt answer any further questions, just left me to panic for days and think it was something really serious. It was just low vitamin D and another known condition I had already discussed with Dr in medical history. Seriously? The second time this happened, I said no thank you Id like to review my blood work first then decide if I would Iike to discuss further with the Dr. They refused to release my results (again, for a service I had already been billed for) and cited their policy.First of all, this is a borderline HIPAA violation (update: it is illegal per Cures Act), patients are entitled to their medical records and I shouldnt have to formally request a release of my full medical record just to see the results of blood work I paid for. Second, both times this happened, the providers didnt have anything of value to say in the appt and had not even reviewed my results prior. Complete waste of everyones time. The funniest part is, after requiring me to do follow up bloodwork before prescribing treatment, now they would like me to instead see a PCP and will not prescribe treatment. What was the point of the follow up blood work and required consults? Just cash grabs?Additionally, they do not offer the Mirena IUD, only a different brand thats not yet approved for 7 years. The Dr was surprised when I asked what their pain management protocol for IUD insertion is, also not a good sign.Update to address a couple points in the response:- I was never informed my results were not life-threatening despite begging for any information on the results the first time, since my bloodwork panel was more comprehensive then. I was told the office staff doesnt have access to my medical records and cant answer any questions. The second time I was also not informed but I knew which tests were run.- Re: required follow up appt: This reminded me, I forgot to mention the provider was over 30 minutes late for both of my required follow up telehealth appointments because they are so overbooked.- Results were NOT posted at the time of follow up appointment, for my most recent follow up on 6/22 my results werent even posted in the patient portal until 7/6, a full two weeks later.- Re. IUDs: I was informed in Jan 2022 by Dr Schmitz that Mirena was not offered. If things have changed since then, great! For pain management, local anesthetic is still so minimal compared to what men get for vasectomies. Do better! IUD insertions are PAINFUL. (Note: I have not had an IUD insertion done at this office, but also dont plan to get my next one done here based on their stated pain management protocol.)- And one more thing that comes to mind, Ive had to follow up multiple times with this office on mischarges and billing errors. Double check what youre being charged for.- On a positive note, they were fully compliant when I later formally requested (with signed paperwork) my full medical record including all lab work.I dont have negative things to say about the providers themselves, mostly just the office policies. If I had to guess, Id say theyre overbooked, understaffed and badly managed.
Dr Schmitz and Barbara Howard helped me through the entire pregnancy and delivery. She is very professional and experienced. She was able to explain what to do and what not. I had gestational diabetes so she had me with specific doctor to have it under control and regularly check. During my labor, she was very calm and effective for the situation. I had my baby about 15 mins during pushing part. She stayed to 10pm in the hospital to help me deliver my baby. I don’t know if I can get it through without her there. The only improvement I think is that the office waiting time is very long since she is very popular. And staff has slow response of billing receipt, prescription, and any other paper request and communication.I would recommend this doctor for your pregnancy.
I have been a patient of Dr. Schmitz for almost 18 years. She is warm and personable. I never feel rushed. I especially like that her care for me as a gyn patient is just as attentive as it was when I was receiving ob care.
I have been a patient of South Austin OBGYN for many years now and have always found my experiences to be very satisfying. Dr. Scmitz as well as Barbara Howard and their staff always take the time to answer all my questions and go the extra mile to be sure all my needs are met. I highly recommend this doctor to any woman out there who feels like they may need someone to treat them with respect, dignity and love.
Dr. Schmitz saved my life. I interviewed 8 surgeons to get my fibroids removed and chose her for the following reasons. She listens and spends as much time as needed in every visit. She respected my wish to keep my uterus and worked very hard in surgery to make sure that happened (6 hour surgery, over a pound of fibroids removed.) She respects integration with alternative and holistic methods, never pushes, bullies or demeans if I want to try something natural first. She is literally the best set of surgical hands in all of Texas. I was sent to her by a very well respected midwife who assured me the only one in town who can do that is Martha. Her bedside manner, gentleness, humor and accessible personality is so loving and attentive; the total opposite of the 7 other men I interviewed. I would not trust my reproductive system (or my daughters!) to anyone but her.
Both the doctor and nurse practitioner are great, but be prepared to wait an hour past your appointment time to finally get out of the waiting room. After several appointments in the last month, it has been frustratingly consistent in the 1 hour behind timeline, even early in the morning appointments.
I was nervous going into the Well Women’s examination but was met by the cheerful kindness of Ms. Barbara Howard! She helped answer my questions and walked me through some of the things I was more nervous about. I definitely felt taken care of here and will recommend to family and friends.
Dr.S and NP Barbara are the best! They make feel like they care and want me to get better. Sometimes doctors can make you feel like a check from the insurance but not there which is why I travel 45 miles just to be treated by them.
Barbara is the best! She is very professional, makes you feel comfortable and explains everything she’s going to do before she does it and again while she does it. She’s very easy to talk to and ask questions. I highly recommend her to anyone!
Dr Schmitz is a wonderful doctor, very knowledgeable and warm. All of the staff I’ve interacted with at Austin Springs are very on the ball, helpful and friendly. Makes a world of difference to a somewhat anxious lady like myself. Thanks y’all!
We love Dr. Schmitz. She helped us bring our almost two years old fortune of a son into being and shes helping us now through an unfortunate pregnancy outcome. We couldnt be more thankful to her and her staff.
My mother came in as a New Patient , Dr. Schmitz made her feel comfortable and welcome to the doctors office. She explained everything to us thoroughly during our visit. We recommend anybody to this office for OBGYN care!!
When I called to set an appointment I informed the receptionist that I did not have insurance, and asked if they accepted care credit as a form of payment. I was told they did. I waited a week for my appointment, filled out all the paperwork in advance, but was unable to upload a copy of a current ID because mine was expired. I drove 45 minutes from Elgin to the appointment with cash and my care credit card. When I got there they refused both as payment; though I specifically stated when I booked the appt that’s how I would be paying. I transferred some money around and paid the fee ($240) on my debit card so that I could be seen as it was urgent. After paying, the receptionist asked for my ID and I pulled out the expired one. She then told me they could not see me; even though I already paid. I took the day off work, got a sitter for my 18 month old, drove 45 minutes to Austin; to be refused for a multitude of reasons that were not told to me by phone.Aside from excluding the fact they don’t take cash, misleading me to believe they take care credit, they had every opportunity to call about the paperwork and inform me the ID portion must be completed before the appointment but didn’t. The receptionist was cold, unhelpful, and unapologetic. This is one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a clinic, and now the limited funds I have are tied up in a “pending transaction” while I wait for my refund. You shouldn’t accept payment prior to identification if that is required for the appointment and you should absolutely inform clients you take neither cash or care credit. This speaks volumes in regards to the type of clients they prefer.
Just don’t. The NP IS LOVELY the doc I wouldn’t let touch me with a 10 foot pole after my experience. I have a laundry list as to why I’m so let down with this “practice” but the worst would be a mis-dosage of a medication that was supposed to help me through a miscarriage. The kicker was I was then told by the doctor that it was MY FAULT for not listening to the VERBAL instructions during the appointment. I’m sorry doc but you wrote the script, I’m your patient dealing with a lot of different things going through my head and a million different bits of information flying at me. I’m going to follow what was on the bottle from your instructions-not my fault but thanks for trying. Upon realizing the error I basically get an “oopsie did I do that?” Spent an entire day feeling like trash after emotionally preparing myself for something that’s just not pleasant to begin with and that was ultimately unsuccessful due to a “typo causing a delay in your progress”.Beyond this: my first prenatal exam was spent 99% of the time discussingmy family’s history of cancer that I’m fully aware of and managing and have already given this office before this appointment. What a fun start to a pregnancy. Left in tears and should ran for the hills after that. The receptionist told me my pregnancy test was negative then said it was positive. I know a receptionist is a receptionist but more training on giving test results would really do wonders.I’m super easy to please and give places the benefit of the doubt. I’ve worked in many medical offices as front office and back office and I know everyone is human. But this place is a dumpster fire. Again NP was delightful the few times I worked with her on other issues but I’d definitely opt to move on. Womens health care deserves far more pride and dignity than what I revived here.
Dr. Schmitz seemed to know her stuff, but I arrived late, so it was my fault that I was stuck there so long. It didnt help matters that my memory is fried & I couldnt recall when Id last had a mammogram. But the staff seems friendly and caring.
My wife came to get a blood test at this place. tired nurse tired of life. Look what she did with her two hands. This nurse couldnt even take a blood test. No apologies, she just sent her to another clinic 🥶
My review has nothing to do with the doctor since I didn’t even get to see one.The receptionist told me I can’t see the doctor because I didn’t do the paperwork online before arriving. I had taken time off from work, driven to the destination and they wouldn’t see me. I asked if I could just fill out the forms in the office. He said no even though the doctor is right there. He didn’t call me to inform me the rule. It’s quite disrespectful to patients who drove all the way there in a 97 degree hot day. I can’t imagine they truly care about their patients given this incident.
Today when I book my first appointment, I was told I need a consultation. Okay, so I want to know how much is the consultation charge. The clerk answering my phone wont tell me anymore information other than yes we will bill you for a consultation and we will send a bill to your insurance and if they dont pay, they will send the bill to you, you need to call your insurance. Okay if I call I need an amount they will bill, $100, $200 or $300? I have a high deductible plan like most insurances do, I want to make the best use of my visit, small copy is okay, but I not paying a crazy amount getting nothing done for just a consultation visit. I asked her if she could call my insurance providing the type of charge for this consultation (a regular visit vs annual visit? ) and give me an estimate amount of my copay before my appointment, but she refused. Well then I wont come for a unforseen/uncertain bill for just a consultation. I only tried this place because its closer to work, but now I will still drive 20 miles back to my original OB (AAOBGYN), they were a lot nicer, and never charged me any consultation since I went to them in 2015. Good way to lose a business.
Dr. Martha Schmitz is such a wonderful human being and a great professional. She is understanding, she cares, she listen, she made feel with great confidence in her. Will not change her for nobody else.
Dr. Schmitz was very thorough and answered all my questions. As a first time patient, I felt very welcomed and all staff were eager to guide/direct me through the whole process. I could feel all are there for the patient!
Dr. Schmitz and her staff were referred to me by my general practitioner. LOVED everyone - staff and doctor. Dr. Schmitz is frankly one of the kindest people - doctor or otherwise - I have met in a long time.
Dr. Schmitt is great! She is professional and knowledgeable as well as funny and lighthearted. I felt comfortable with her and look forward to having her help me with my health and wellness.
I, was satisfied with my office visit and the one on one conference with Dr. Schmidz very personal and Im looking forward to the next step to getting my self back to full recovery, of my medical problem. Thanking Dr. Schimtz and her staff for the wonderful care.
I have seen Mrs. Howard and Dr. Schmitz for over a decade now. They are extremely knowledgeable in their field. I live and work north of Austin now and have tried other obgyn offices and none of them have been as good and knowledgeable as Howard and Schmitz. Even though I have to travel longer to see them I will continue!
Love going here! Everyone in the office is friendly and helpful! Dr. Martha Schmitz and Barbara Howard, WHNP-BC are both very qualified and a pleasure to talk to. So glad I found a great place like this. I definitely recommend it to all you ladies out there!
Dr. Howard is great! She knows how to make you feel comfortable and helped me a lot when I was in a transition period where I did not have insurance
Dr. Barbara was absolutely amazing! She walked me through the entire procedure and addressed ALL of my concerns in a professional and respectful manner, which is unfortunately difficult to find. I’m so happy to have found this place.
The first time I came here, had to wait over an hour to get seen for a scheduled appointment. They said “we’re waiting for more rooms to open up, the dr will see you once a room is available”. Currently, I’ve been trying to get ahold of anyone at this clinic and I’ve left 2 messages and have not gotten a call back or been able to reach anyone. Now I have to look for another OBGYN because this one doesn’t answer or return calls.
I felt very safe with their Covid protocol. The staff are very friendly, ran on time.DR Schmitz is professional and warm. I will continue to use their office.
As usual, Ms. Howard was polite and informative. Shes very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about sensitive topics. Shes an asset to the practice.

Dr.Schmitz was very nice and she made me feel comfortable talking with her. The staff was kind and professional also.
AWFUL.I made an appointment for 1. I was told to arrive 20 minutes early which I did. No one was in the office. The assistants showed up at 1, took my information and told me to wait. 45 minutes after 1, I asked what the delay was. Apparently they were “waiting for the doctor to arrive”. No heads up, no apologies for the delay, nothing. I got up and left at 2.
Dr. Schmitz is always concerned about your well being- not just health but your world as a whole. I have been seeing her for over 20 years now and wouldnt go anywhere else.
Dr. Schmitz is wonderful. Only met her a short while ago but she immediately took action and was most professional.
