The staff didn’t do Anything to help people. Just let you sign the paperwork, didn’t help you in the real life. Don’t follow up patient‘s situation, don’t responsible for their work. Like how can you get the insurance or get other services, I am more professional than them. They really don’t know anything. And the staff likes talking about patients situation in the back. Too terrible…… Importantly, the case managers are too hypocritical, asking that what you need? Then, how. Just asking? Did it help in practice? Of course not.
Nice facility and so many essential services (healthcare, health insurance, food assistance, and so many more). I am so grateful this place exists. I would feel so lost here in NYC without them. Dr. Sison is so kind and patient and attentive. Ive honestly liked every doctor Ive had here. I have, on occasion, had to follow up on referrals and things of that nature, but its not that big of a deal and the staff are always willing to help if you just call. This place has also helped a lot of my friends get health insurance, SNAP, and STI testing and treatment. Really an amazing place.
This clinic has been my lifeline for trans care and general care since I moved to the city part time, and then full time. Only complaint is sometimes when they call its an immediate hangup from their side.
I’ve been coming to this place almost 3 years or more and it’s getting to the point to be complete disappointment of staff, doctors and reception people too.Let’s start with Dr. Theodore Miller which never get on time to appointment. The Average waiting time is between 30-55 min to get a consultation in 5 min of his time; sometimes the doctor forgets the appointment or his own schedule and he goes to lunch and I have to either wait extra 1-2 hours after lunch or rescheduled the appointment.Receptionist likes to talk and laughing about patience’s status or experiences with them, which is not appropriate being on the 1st floor.
8/10 times coming here, the front staff was rude upon entering. For a facility that is supposed to be providing a friendly environment and safe space for not only lgtbq but anyone who comes here — I do NOT feel safe, or welcomed at all by the staff that works here.On top of that, most times when I call the clinic, it is nearly almost impossible to get someone on the phone. I get directed to voicemail multiple, multiple, multiiipllleeeeeeee times when it’s 3pm on a Tuesday when I’ve been calling since 12pmbut their clinic hours are opened till 5:30pm… make it make sense. And when I finally get to speak with someone, they’re not very helpful and give attitude. The two doctors that I’ve had so far here are also very poor at communicating and I honestly am just very disappointed in the level of care APICHA provides for the community.Pharmacy/pharmacists are great. They’re always friendly and has actually helped me get through to upstairs clinic several times because I could not.
Dr. Sison went on vacation and nurse theodore miller was filling in. My prescriber missed his appointment with me and I needed an emergency refill for my SSRI while I was trying to get in touch with my prescriber to find out why he missed my appointment.Theodores response was that because the meds were not in my charts and there was an autocorrect, that I should keep trying to get in touch with my prescriber and that he was not going to send a partial refill.Theodore Miller knowingly caused SSRI withdrawal.
If you have another option for medical care, choose it.I arrived on time to an empty waiting room. The PA and MD spent 15 mins ***in front of me in the waiting area*** chit-chatting with front desk personnel, before taking me in. My feedback, about this and other things, got push back. The doctor seems to have uncontrolled ADD, gets lost researching a component of one issue and neglects to address other issues. Get a clue folks, patient feedback isnt a personal attack, its an opportunity to improve. After drawing M.D.s attention to a screening test for which I was overdue, they said they would order it. Afterwards I could see it in the visit notes but I didnt hear anything for 12 weeks. When I received a call saying it was scheduled I asked for the scheduling info to be repeated but the staff person declined to repeat themselves and said it would be in the email theyd send. Days go by. I call. Im told the info was emailed. I ask for it to be re-sent. Nothing.I receive a call from the facility performing the test, they indicate insurance declined coverage. I speak with the insurance and they hadnt received info thats needed for a determination. I speak to APICHA and send them the info, but insurance never receives it. Despite two times telling me they transmitted the info the insurance never received it. Worse, the M.D. made errors in the type of test ordered. Even with the missing info., it wouldnt be approved. I informed the M.D. as to the difference between my previous tests and the test he ordered. The communication was acknowledged and that was the last time I heard from APICHA.
This clinic is awful. Unfortunately if you are transgender there are not many places that specialize in comprehensive trans care, but even then this place is a nightmare to get anything done in. It seems like there is no consistency, follow-up, or any way to keep everyone in the loop. I made an appointment which was confirmed at a certain date and time, I even received a text confirmation, I live in Staten Island and I have agoraphobia so its not easy for me to get to Manhattan. I show up at my appointment time and they tell me my appointment doesnt exist. I show them the text confirmation. They dont care. That is one of many, many examples of such experiences. For instance they lost my blood work to send over to my surgeon THREE times resulting in my having to postpone my entire surgery. I ended up just getting my blood drawn at quest.I get told Im going to be sent a referral and months later I call in to see what happened and they forgot about it. . .seriously get more budgeting or something to get your act together it is insane!! The only positive experience I have had with them is that their trans team is on point with getting your surgery letters written within a reasonable time. Everything else is trash.
Been waiting for a month just for a simple referral. I don’t know how they stay in business do yourself a favor and find another health care center
I got the worst and harsh experience with the people in this clinic actually who are for customers service. They seem to be super arrogant and rude while talking regarding appointment or any information they seem always in rush and never be in compassionate tone. Even they demonstrate their annoying tone with their expression like hang up on the face. I would never recommend anybody to go to them
Discriminates against trans people. My wife tried to get medical care here and was refused and told that she couldn’t until she completed a “transgender orientation session” even though she’s been on hormones for years and wasn’t seeking anything related to transgender care. If yall care about your clients whatsoever you wouldn’t do weird and pointless things like this, that prevent people from receiving medical care. Seems really messed up to discriminate like that, and I have never heard of another place doing anything similar to this. I really hope you have updated your policy and that you aren’t singling out trans people for no reason anymore.
This is a community clinic and not a private clinic. As such the client experience is not over the top perfect like one would find in a private clinic. However, for a community clinic, this place is 10 stars. Efficient, clean, expert staff and kind front desk administrators. I have insurance and can afford a private clinic, but I still go here because I prefer a clinic that understands my needs. I love Apicha!!
RUN from here THEY CANT KEEP MANAGER, DOCTORS, Nurses OR Employees I been coming here for almost 5 years its disturbing how they spend all this money to fix the building up but every time i come i have a new doctor they always make you have an appointment to still make you wait they gotten worse when I Mean Run From here RUN !!! Iesha and monae thankyou appreciate you guys today ! Update 9/6/2024 years later her I am today waiting over an hour after seeing the doctor for blood work. Every time I come here its a wait it dont even be crowed they
Awful clinic overall. Long hold times, I saw two providers who were subpar to hell. As a TGNB individual who is on hormones I did not feel heard or safe under Sabina’s care. One time my testosterone levels were low because I missed a few doses and she tried to raise me from .5– ANYONE that’s been on hormones for a while would know that’s not the answer. She could’ve gotten me seriously sick or killed. Apicha I get everyone is burnt out and understaffed but doesn’t mean let your patients fall under the ringer. Id have to beg for refills, wait for 10+ min hold times just for people to give me attitude for no reason. It took 3 people being rude before I complained. When I told Sabina I was leaving they kicked me out the system 1-2 months later without telling me and when I try to access my records no one answers the phone of course. I waited a long time just for the call to disconnect. This place can lick the hairiest crevice of my 🍑 because clearly they don’t care.
I HAD AN STD THEY POSTED MY RESULTS AND A WEEK PASSED WITH NOBODY CALLING ME NOR TEXTING ME ON THE PORTAL SUCH A SHAME.. I COULD GIVE MANY PEOPLE THIS STD WITHOUT EVEN NOTICING..I just called them to ask them why they wouldn’t call me because that’s what they usually do and they said they texted me on the portal (LIE) they didn’t.I BEEN A PATIENT FOR OVER 8 years and this never happened before ( but in the last 2 years this place been getting WORST AND WORST)It is a nightmare to even go there, and it makes me sad that is basically the only place where I can get my stuff done, but you have to be on their back to make sure everything is done on time ( this wasn’t like this before) I’m very disappointed with the whole team. I almost lost my surgery date because my results weren’t sent to my surgeon on time I had to go there a day before and spend the whole afternoon making sure they’d send them.SHAME ON YOU APICHA TEAM.
Last year I needed them to write me a letter so insurance would pay for my surgery. They wrote the letter but the date had to be within 30 days of surgery. I asked if they could send the exact same letter but change the date so insurance would accept it. I called every week for 2 months saying You already wrote the letters. Please just send it again with todays date. Theyd send one but not the other, they sent me the original letter with the incorrect date again, one time they sent me a letter with the correct date but it was for the wrong kind of surgery. I almost lost my appointment for the surgery. I got lucky and got a new insurance provider 5 days before surgery that accepted the original letters. I got the surgery I needed, woke up, and checked my phone to see an email from Apicha - it had my requested letter attached and once again...it was the wrong letter. The final straw for me today though was the phone number for their pharmacy is disconnected so you can’t call to schedule delivery. I just spent 28 minutes on hold with their operator to get transferred to the someone for my prescription I was hung up on.There are great staff there who care a lot, but the clinic is overbooked and underfunded. They have sliding scale so Id recommend it if you can’t afford anywhere else.
In my last 4 appointments the doctor has been 30 min- 1 hour late. I called to tell them this next timer I might be 10 min late and they said if I’m being 15 min late the practitioner can reserve right to cancel. I have waited a whole hour for appointments with no apology and terrible terrible front desk customer service. If on my next visit the doctor is equally tactless and the staff are rude, I’m truly taking my services to a totally different clinic. This clinic has been in decline for the last three years and the stellar service that I one knew after ten years of being here Is completely gone.
Just the absolute worst most disrespectful care I’ve received from a clinic. I saw today that I was charged $50 for an appointment with someone in their Psych department. They came in during the end of my appointment with my new PCP, for about 5 minutes, telling me to do breathing exercises for my anxiety and making assumptions about the things I already do to take care of my mental health. My interactions with their psych department only got worse after that, leading up to a boiling point where my partner had to yell on the phone at an incredibly rude staff member who was dehumanizing towards me. I’ve already called to complain about what happened, it was received and (I think) taken seriously, so I haven’t been contacted by their psych department again, but I straight up don’t recommend going here for a myriad of reasons. I ultimately just can’t believe I was charged $50 as a poor person for someone to come in for five minutes, write depression down in my notes, tell me to do breathing exercises, and still not even add me to the waitlist for therapy. My new PCP left the clinic, so I have no reason to be going back at all. I see Apicha has a lot of bad reviews, and I hope they take these concerns seriously and restructure themselves with more racial sensitivity training.
I have been calling for weeks trying to see someone to refill my prescription of PrEP, and it has been impossible to get any help. Thank goodness this is a preventative medication. I couldn’t imagine the consequences if I had such difficulty refilling a prescription that I needed to function daily.
I literally do not know how this place is still open they have gotten away with medical neglect for far too long. Every trans person I know who was a patient when the pandemic started was basically forcefully detransitioned- they didn’t take calls or fill hormones for MONTHS in 2020. I literally called everyday for months with no response. I stopped taking hormones after 2 years because Apicha couldn’t even be bothered to pick up their phones to tell patients they were having issues. They even read another patients results to me one time, and when I insisted they were reading someone else’s chart they insulted me until they realized I was right. I’ve even interviewed to work here and they were nasty to me, acting condescending and telling me if I care about LGBT activism this isn’t the place to work. I cannot stress enough- do not go here!!!!
This is a great clinic for gender affirming care. I was able to get an appointment in a New York minute the staff was amazing and kind felt welcome and no judgment but support. It’s great you get your blood taken in the office and not a another lab with is great .
Firstly I’d like to say I’m grateful I found this clinic because they are helpful professional and have a live phone operator when you call but only after guessing which options to choose from when trying to contact them because no one answers when you call we have to choose which is confusing as the choices aren’t clear or non existent but I’m grateful to speak to a human being nonetheless. However phone operators assure you’ll meet with doctors when truth is you need to meet with a social worker to get assessed first then forwarded to a doctor elsewhere which isn’t told to clients and should be other than that they’re great.Dr Sismon is the best doctor he’s attentive knowledgeable outgoing personable and makes you feel comfortable and explains everything in detail which is greatly appreciated I recommend him.Their offices are clean but never have hot water and clients only receive metro cards when meeting with doctors so make sure to schedule seeing anyone else the same day you see your doctor or be prepared to walk home.June their social worker in my experience is great quick and no nonsense but gets annoyed quickly. She gave me an assessment of questions but wasn’t listening when I asked for various things until after explaining I don’t have time to keep meeting with her every week month or the other and when she asked what my hiv medication was I informed her I took 13+ & didn’t know them off hand and she said “it’s usually just one pill” in a judge mental way which made me feel guilty or wrong for taking so many medications so I pointed out that I not only had HIV but have AIDS too and added thankfully my medications keep me alive but she didn’t say anything or apologize. She called my health insurance on speaker phone to ask them if she and her colleague could write support letters instead of doctors because that’s how she did things and was told what I had already informed her. Then I spoke with Christina another social worker but through video chat who was pleasant outgoing and just great but she too encouraged me to settle for two letters when I need 4 from three providers. So my advice is for anyone employed to help people especially in an HIV clinic where we’re fighting for our lives as patients to listen to us as we get ostracized in life and ignored when all we need is common courtesy respect and deserve to deal with professionals.Staff should be trained not to assume or be rude so hope my experience is not repeated by others as most clients just take it but I don’t as I’ve been an advocate for decades on tv in Washington DC etc not only for myself but for homeless HIV positive addicted mentally ill and LGBT etc. I wish everyone knew this rule of sticking to being professional while being employed working with patients battling a life long incurable disease.I am happy Apicha is not a part of the terrible Mount Sinai clan who misgenders humiliates and belittles trans patients and never supply human beings to answer questions or help with scheduling.I appreciate Apicha’s automated appointment reminders they’re very helpful and staff to me have all been professional yes even front desk gals regardless of reviews and other staff even if we don’t speak they’re professional and I appreciate that because I try my best in being so myself.I know everyone has a different experience so I try to keep an open mind but at the end of the day it’s a legal business establishment and we both clients and staff should be professional as we’re supposed to be civilized coexisting in NYC the most fabulous city in the world. I fully recommend this clinic as I see more positive then negative in my experiences thus far. Perhaps later when I have only positive experiences I could change my star review to more and would be open to volunteer with this establishment as I believe we could benefit from each other and look forward to our lengthy partnership.NOTE to Apicha: there’s no need for me to call your manager as I simply shared my experience thus far hopefully you’ll take note.
If you want proper medical care this is not a place , but if you want place to hang and chit chat yes it will work , inexperienced clueless staff , not everyone
Is there only one doctor that works here? The pharmacy is good, but for anything else you’re gonna have to wait at least 2 weeks. I’ve always had to wait at least 30 minutes when on time, but if you’re 10 minutes late the doctor Cabot see you, and you gotta schedule 2 weeks later. Front desk is lowkey apathetic and unbothered. I’ve had 3 different pcps. I think there’s a culture that discourages doctors from staying? Trying to find an alternative, would not recommend.
If I could give this organization less than one star, I would. This is the most unprofessional organization I have ever had the displeasure of working for. The director of operations, Devika Patel, constantly belittles employees and makes them feel subhuman for the smallest of mistakes. She is blatantly antisemitic to Jewish employees--denying them time off for the High Holy Days. I was forced to work on Rosh Hashanah and had to come in early AND stay late to make up for missing a day for Yom Kippur; after which, I was told that we do not do make up time by Devika. Devika routinely will ask employees to set a meeting with her to discuss performance and will then skip the meeting (without rescheduling) and will blame the employee for not showing up. Director of support services, Timothy Au, is--at best--incompetent and at worst unethical. Timothy routinely will ask entry-level employees to de-escalate situations in which Timothy--as a social worker--is far more qualified to de-escalate. As an employee, you will be asked to complete tasks with little-to-no training and without support from management. For healthcare worker appreciation week, employees were given $25 DoorDash gift cards and were told if the cards were not used by the end of the week that they would need to be returned. If you enjoy being micromanaged and called stupid, this is the place for you!
Awful. There aren’t many care clinics for trans people so I came here after having a terrible experience at another clinic. This place is just as bad. I had some blood work done and the nurse was not skilled at taking blood at all. Attached are pictures of my arm after the blood draw. It was a big blood bubble. Also, my care doctor here isn’t helpful, and frequently dismisses my concerns.Update: I have been dealing with some health issues for a while and returned with my blood work only to be laughed at and have my concerns dismissed. Dr. Ishita Sheth should find another career - she is a terrible doctor. If you’re not going to listen to your patients, don’t practice medicine.
I respect my the schedule of my appointment that i made with them that why i always come on time and hoping to finish early, but lately, all my appointments are almost 45mins to 1 hour late!!! Its so annoying cause i also have other things to do and they never respect other people’s time!! Ive been going here for years but if this happens all the time, will look for other providers!! Hope they do something about this problem with scheduling appointments and making it on time!!
Wow, Im SHOCKED at all the bad reviews. Complaints about the front desk and staff. Ive been treated kindly and with respect from day one. Im a single dad and one time when I was getting blood drawn the ladies at the front desk on the first floor took my daughter and watched her for me. I now have a new doctor but before this clinic I went to another community clinic and I learned to deal with the change of doctors, I always wish them well and thank them for their care. I will miss Dr. Hafiz Maje, he was always kind and explained things thoroughly and encouraged that I ask questions if I was confused. Now I look forward to my new doctor and if she leaves one day, I will do the same thing. Life is about adapting to change, doctors are humans with lives of their own, theyre not our parents. Im ftm and whenever I need a refill it gets done in a timely manner, I know to give them a heads up in advance since they are busy and Im not their only patient. Ive never had to wait a very long time to see my doctor. I recommend this clinic to anyone who is an adult who is of sound mind and not a soft millennial/genZer that cries about every little thing, oh no, you looked at me funny, Im going to cry about it and leave a bad review. GoH. They do their jobs, and a damn good job if you ask me, having to deal with these softies must be hard.**Disclaimer: Im not talking about ALL millennials & gen Z, Im a millennial and know plenty of thick skinned gen Z**
My PCP got changed roughly 6 (!!!) times in 3 years I was seeing them. I constantly wait for 2 hours for my appointments. The nurses can be nice, however wither new of careless and as a professionals are close to zero.
I used to like APICHA, but their staff is about as helpful as a puffer coat in July. Save yourself the headache. Your calls will go unanswered. The front staff has 2 brain cells that alternate between off and standby.
After being a patient here for over two years, I’ve finally given up with Apicha. Not only did your office fail to contact me for 8 months during the pandemic, I wasn’t even aware my doctor had left until I called to ask if I was still a patient since the office had not contact me in so long. Then your office failed to have a doctor or nurse call me when I was diagnosed with an STD via the patient portal. I shouldn’t have had to call the office all day long just for a nurse to read someone else’s chart and tell me it’s mine while I begged him to listen to me as I told him he wasn’t reading the correct results. Not to mention that when my doctor did eventually call me she was just mad at me for being upset that the office had failed to contact me all day to explain my diagnosis. You are playing with peoples lives and health and it’s not cute. If you want competent transgender and sexual wellness healthcare, DO NOT GO HERE. The office is so disorganized and the doctors are constantly leaving since they failed to unionize in 2018.
When I first started going here everyone was super nice and helpful and very queer, which meant a great deal to me. However over the past two years they have messed up soooo many things its absolutely ludicrous. Some issues Ive had include cancelling my appointments without my request (or notifying me that they did so), forgetting I was in the lobby waiting for my appt, throwing away/losing my applications for insurance, spelling my name wrong messing up my prescriptions, not actually updating my new address and then still updating it with wrong information. Its so unprofessional. Youd think a doctors office would take inputting contact info and names seriously.
I spoke to someone on the phone about a walk in covid-19 booster shot. I explained to them that I had received the J&J vaccine and I asked if I could come in for a booster shot first thing in the morning, they said I would only need to bring my vaccine card. When I arrived the next morning the lady at the front desk told me that I needed a letter of recommendation from my doctor stating I had a preexisting condition and recommending a booster shot, even though the CDC guidelines specifically state that anyone who received the J&J vaccine at least two months ago and is over 18 is eligible to receive a booster dose. When I asked to see this rule in writing (because its not mentioned on the website or was mentioned to me on the phone) or speak with a supervisor the lady flatly refused. It is extremely inconsiderate considering people take time off work to get their vaccine, and the fact that this clinic is not following CDC guidelines about administering the vaccine raises other concerns about where else they may be cutting corners. Stay far away from this place.
I am patience here for 1 years and a half and I am very satisfied with their services, the Dr always answered my questions and take cares my health perfectly, the receptionists and staff are very friendly, the case workers always remind me my appointments, they helped me with my migration, with my name change, with finding apartment to live, with the nutrition, I am receiving a food voucher every month, they also take care my mental health, sexual education, with the dentist, they take care for my all my needs, I love Apicha.
Changed doctors and appointments without letting me know. Final draw today: waited an hour before being told I cant be seen and that Id have to reschedule because of an emergency by the doctor. This is a good example of when an entity becomes too big to take care of their patients/clients properly. Disorder and disappointment with each appointment ever made. APICHA: hire more staff, pay them better to stay on - grow but dont loose that customer focus people expect.
I have been a patient here for many years but this place has gone worse to the worst since my best primary care MD left , and my primary care providers has changed 3 times in 2 years already because they all left Apicha which is very annoying. Not sure what’s going on in Apicha. Whoever they assigned me now as My new Primary care provider is terrible!Every time I have a new provider I have to go through the whole history of what’s going on with my care n treatment.I seriously think that this organization does not Concern about the health care quality they provide anymore. Not to even mention that it is hard to find somebody to Schedule and reschedule your appointment and prescription need. Front desk is always busy n when asked to leave a messages nobody ever returned my call when I left message and they are rude n impatient and stupid
Im so disappointed in this place. My partner is a trans woman and she has been going here for a while. In recent months, she has been misgendered, not been able to get a hold of someone, and even was so triggered from her last call (extremely rude and was told to calm down when she expressed frustration) had me call on her behalf. The person answering the phone did not even understand the concept of a dead name...I had to explain it to them. I dont know what person at the top is making decisions but this is a good way to cause harm when you are employing an answering service that has clearly had less than zero training in the basic needs of interacting with the trans community. We will be looking elsewhere for her needs going forward.
I had a pretty difficult experience with the office and wont be returning.they changed my doctor 2 times without giving me any type of notice. they also wrongly billed my services which resulted in my insurances charging me large sums. i realized this when i started getting bills for these mistakes.i reached out to the staff on several occasions with little to no response. i also went in person and there was no follow-through for nearly two months. in the end the problem was resolved but it took very long and left a bitter taste. i will not be returning.
This place has no idea what its mission is and its leadership team seems more interested in $$$ than care. Avoid.
The staff have an attitude. Its not just the doctors. The phlebotomists and the front desk staff seem like they were trained to be rude by the doctors. They would also benefit from receiving sensitivity training since they have staff who do not use the correct pronoun even after you correct them.
Terrible service, never think of going here. I am sorry, to be able to see my PCP is like wanting to make an appointment with the president. Terrible staff. The staff are always like they want to leave. Also if you dont have an appointment they dont listen to you.
Ive been going here for years, my experiences with all the staff except the front desk have been great. The front desk however is a fricking nightmare, theyre rude, they never answer the phone, and are rarely helpful. Im all for everyone getting a dollar but sometimes your job needs to be replaced by an ipad so you can be freed to pursue your true passion.
I’m am currently a patient at this clinic and seriously contemplating never going back. I had a very bad experience with a Dr. Dennis Karalyn. She spoke down to me and violated my hippa rights. I filed a complaint and waited over 2 months with no response. So I took it upon myself to meet with the manager who is supposed to be in charge of patient complaints and was told a whole lot of excuses. I pleaded my case to the manager Miss Connie and after everything was said and done she told me eventually she would talk to the doctor about the problem. This clinic obviously does not care about their patients and our concern and it’s very disappointing and disheartening this clinic isn’t great please don’t waste your time.
Update #1 (Visit: 1/19/22):I am more than grateful that I am still under the care of the folks here. Words cannot properly express it.Other than being able to rely on them to take care of me as a transgender person, I can rely on them to take care of me as one who is autoimmune compromised (taking all precautions, offering scheduled testing and providing in-depth information), fill my prescriptions and promptly contact me when I reach out to them via phone or Healow with questions concerning my health. I highly recommend Apicha. They also have a fully functional location in Jackson Heights (Queens) as well.Sending all of you at Apicha love and wishing all current/prospective patients good health!I have nothing but praise for this clinic.Original (revised) review:Today was my last appointment for the year.I have been going to Apicha for a little over 5 years to begin HRT.Ive seen Apicha at its best and its worst and at this time, I truly believe they have a solid team now.No matter which provider Ive seen, they have kept in mind that I have had to work with my companys FMLA company and travel from quite a distance and have Chronic Pain, so they have always done all they can to accommodate me from the very beginning in that regard. Also, I am very grateful that you are still a clinic. Thanks to Apicha, I will finally be getting Gender Confirmation Surgery next week.Hopefully I can continue to depend on you once I have the strength to work with you closer on getting certain markers changed. There are still a few crabapples there, but in general I see a lot of great, hardworking folks and I personally send my thanks to the desk staff, pharmacists, nurses, PAs, therapists, pharmacists, and providers (especially my current one) for actually fighting for me and being the allies I dont have at home.New year, new me? Or perhaps, new year, truer me.Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!Namaste.
Based on all previous experiences Ive had, Apicha is definitely among the best if not the best. Overall, really great customer service from my experience so far, and great doctors. Easy referrals without having to beg for them and overall fairly queer-friendly
As a transgender patient who has been going here for over a year, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this clinic. They have helped me with insurance, medication, gender confirmation letters, referrals, and everything else you can think of. They truly care here. I actually look forward to going to their pharmacy, where they know my name, and have helped me with the medications I need, even if Im having issues with my insurance.
Ive yet to have a bad experience with particular providers here. Everyone seems very nice and professional for the most part. HOWEVER, there have been multiple times where providers have been behind schedule, And Ive been left in the waiting room for hours after my scheduled appointment times with no communication from anyone. I would be more tolerant if someone would just take half a second to let me know theyre running late or whatever the case may be.There was also one other incident in the pharmacy where I was picking up a prescription, and instead of quietly asking me if my prescription was correct or even just showing me the bag, they yelled exactly what I was picking up across the room to confirm. Not only is that highly disrespectful, its also a blatant breach of confidentiality. So all in all, Ive had a relatively okay experience here, with the exception of those couple things. Overall, I would probably recommend it in general, but I would definitely make a point to mention those things.
Switching from here as soon as I can. This place is highly disorganized and the most difficult to contact, voicemail works half the time and when it does they dont call you back.Staff is really nice though, only reason for 2 stars.
As a transgender person, I went to Apicha thinking they would make my life easier, and for the FIRST visit, it did. But since then, I have been transferred to 3 doctors, my refills are never filled in a timely manner, I cannot get a call back no matter how many messages I leave, and no one seems to be able to talk to each other in a 4 story building. Hurt and frustrated with the run around. Karalyn Dennis has had my passport paperwork on her desk for over a week requiring ONLY her signature, but apparently she is too busy for her patients.
Awful, awful, awful service. I came here to get PrEP. The doctor was condescending, rude, and let me know that he was about to quit his job. He let me know that I most likely would not be able to get Descovy with my insurance. He didn’t even try to fill out a prior authorization with my insurance. The result? I didn’t get PrEP.No one here cares about patients. Seriously the least caring and least helpful health clinic I’ve ever visited.
Don’t go there ever as a walk in and if you’re not a client of this clinic.Just got off from here and didn’t even stay to see the doctor because the nurse was so rude and obviously had some attitude. Although I’m in horrible pain right now but I just left and I’m still in shock of how bad service are.You go to the clinic and expect to receive a help and nice treatment but reality just kicked me so bad.And I actually was thinking to become their client but after what I just experienced I will never go back there again.Save your time
I was excited when I saw this going in as I thought it was an urgent care facility, seeing as there is a fantastic community health center less than a block away. Today when a friend was in need of medical attention a couple days after a car accident, I suggested this place and walked her over. After being told she could only see a nurse (which she was fine with), filling out paperwork, then being told that the doctor would be available in 1 1/2 hours, they finally decided to inform her that if she didnt plan on making the doctor her PCP they would not see her. So she got to walk down to Chambers with bruised ribs, after sitting at Apicha for over an hour, having all her vitals taken and being seen by a nurse. Im extremely unimpressed. If you need a community health center, go to Charles B. Wang, if you want to be seen for a same-day visit, just go to the urgent care at 87 Chambers. Apparently they just send you there anyway.
The staff at the front desk were courteous, the doctors, however, treated me horribly. Dr. Ian Tang was my physician. He did NOT listen to me and told me I was going to die because I didnt feel comfortable taking a medication that I had a bad reaction to when I took it in the past. The social worker (Adrian Costello) was no help either. He seemed nice during my visit with him but once I received my medical records so that I can look for another provider because Dr. Tang made me feel so uncomfortable, I read Mr. Costellos report about me, and he lied on his report about what was said during my visit with him. This place has caused me nothing but aggravation, stress, anger and anxiety. I really thought they would help me but they did the complete opposite. Horrible, smh.
I’m a patience in this clinic for several years, it was amazing, it was the best clinic that I’ve ever been BUT in the last months is getting worse every time, my best Dr. is not working there anymore, the other Drs. are nice but they never give any solutions as my old Dr did.97% of the workers are lbgt, I have lgbt fiends but the workers there always have bad attitude, it’s terrible, specialty the people from the front desk, I had bad experience with them several times so I’m getting tired of it, I supposed to have a solution & go to a place where I will feel better but in the last months I left that place angry, they make me angry by they terrible attitude, so I will move to an other clinic.
There is this queen, supposedly with the name of Alex, who is rude and even dares to hang up on you if he is annoyed when you call for prescription refills.Have perceived some staff and/or nurses behaving condescendingly with transgender patients, which is unfortunate for a clinic that is supposed to be specialized in transcare, apparently for some of them is just about the paycheck, no real training. Other than that, the clinic has good intentions.
Unbelievable, the worse service Ive ever had, more than bad service. do not go there if you want people who are caring and attentive. The practitioner I saw does not care, follow up, help, or put effort into her patients.
This place is all around terrible. The customer service is sub par. For a medical establishment, there is concern for the health and well-being of the clients they serve. Reception staff is usually nasty and rude and it is almost impossible to actually reach them by phone. If you are able to get treatment somewhere else, I’d suggest you do so. This place isn’t worth the headache.
My partner has had to miss T doses at least 1-2x/month for nearly all of the 7-8 months he has been relying on APICHA, all because Dr. Hafiz Maje can’t seem to set a simple calendar reminder to call in his prescription. for supposedly qualified trans health professionals, this team has proven incredibly ignorant of how much of a LITERAL LIFESAVER getting these meds on time can be. good thing Callum-Lorde has room for new patients! oh wait...
The place is very clean, very nice people. You dont wait long highly trained and professional. You automatically feel at home when you walk in there, I love it they treat you very well and are the most caring, understanding, reasonable, loving and sweet people that could ever work there . They never turn you away and always find away to make it work, one thing I love about the people who work there is that they hold a very special place in your heart. I highly recommend this place!
I would give this place 0 stars if I had to. I want to say that I was mis-informed EVERYTIME I have went to the appointments. My doctor is Dennis Karalyn and she has told me that It doesnt matter what I pay and that I will not get billed. WRONG. I DID GET BILLED. I asked her to print me where it says that and what the policy is, and she just said I am telling you this. I have felt something extremely off. I am simply not coming back because I had a very bad experience and better yet I have not felt at all comfortable there each time I have went and gave it chances. I am going to a regular PCP and it will be better off than this. Ofcorse your experience might be different, but I am saying to STAY AWAY. The place wants your money and thats it. I will not be coming back. I thought I would have a great experience here and put my trust here and BIG MISTAKE. And the portal? Nobody answers. You wont get an answer written and if they call they will set up another appointment for just a simple minute for $$$. Im done here. Also, the phlebotomists are unexperienced. I have had a problem with my blood work here and the phlebotomist without warning just jammed the needle into my hand because its hard to get blood with my veins. I go to Lab Corp on Staten Island- its simple and fast. At Apicha, it hurt EXTREMELY!I had so many problems after problems. I am finished with Apicha. It is such a let down. They had a great presentation to suck you into coming and then its a let down once you are actually in. False advertising.Do yourself a favor, and save your money. Do not come here for a thing.
Had an appointment to get some tests done and was shown to my appointment promptly and professionally. Brandon had a great personality and made me and my boyfriend feel at home. Overall great experience and definitely recommend.
Never had a bad experience. And the free delivery for medication is a life saver. Nothing can truly be perfect. But these guys are alright over here. I really can’t complain
I dont know if APICHA has multiple locations but I would not recommend this one on Broadway to any trans person. I have encountered rude staff who misgender patients and experienced extremely ignorant providers. Dont advertise yourself as offering trans healthcare if your enokoyees dont know Trans 101.
I had a really bad experience with this company. I had an interview on 1/8/21 with Devika Patel. I was supposed to hear back from them within 3 weeks. I even sent her 3 follow up emails, hoping she would reply back. But she didnt. It shows how unprofessional she is at what she does. I really dont know how she runs the organization. I doubt how their other employees will be.
I have been a patient at the Apicha CHC for over four years now and while my doctors have changed a few times over the years, I still feel that I get excellent medical service for my needs all delivered by lovely staff.
This place is awful, they blatantly discriminate against TRANS PEOPLE! I tried to make a appointment because I had a seizure, they told me that I COULD NOT EVEN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT unless I first attended their ¨TRANSGENDER ORIENTATION SESSION¨ even though I was not seeking transgender care, just a normal medical appointment!
The medical department is amazing, but the social work dept is hot garbage (All of them, everyone of them, top to bottom). Promises & then 10 steps back every time; also cry HIPPA Violation! constantly but stay in exam rooms with you. I do not think they could tell you what ADA means.Google what you need and spend the day at the library instead collecting numbers to call. You don’t need their BS when you have to face civil servants anyway. Save your strength & spend it wisely- ELSEWHERE.
Im very pleased with how quickly my needs have been taken care of at Apicha. They got me on Medicaid and food stamps, got me hormones, PrEP, and Cialis. Dr. Tang is the first doctor to listen to me about keeping my testosterone levels above zero. The intake processes can be time consuming, but Apicha is great at helping coordinate it all.
All good staff, doctors... But!!! I have always waiting(( and Im talking about waiting not 20 min, its usually hour or even two(( Even if I have an appointment for certain time. So its always difficult to plan your day when you have an appointment at Apicha. Thats why 4*
An absolute joke. i waited for 40m after my appointment time and they couldn’t tell me when i would be seen; not even a hint of apology. i walked out and am looking for another provider.
Wonderful staff who are kind and caring. Great health / community center which is very inclusive for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community. A place where I feel safe and welcomed.
Great staff and doctors, but bad organization! The waiting time for scheduling an appointment can be 2 months! And when you get there with your scheduled appointment, you’ve got to wait around 1 hr.
Sarah is so warm and helpful. Truly on of the nicest people working at Apicha.
I wish I could give them 5 stars because my doctor is very nice and very understanding, she has a heart of gold, but is just at the entrance where I get attitudes, like if I had a bad day, sometimes I dont want to deal with the front desk , but thats sometimes and some poor communication over the phone, besides that this place is recommended and everyone makes you feel welcome, and its clean, the pharmacy and pharmacists are amazing with positive attitudes and they answer your questions.
Ive had them lose my blood work and dispose of a urine sample in the trash in front of me. Never again.
The staff here are helpful. Kevin is very friendly and patient when explain things to me. The wait time is a bit long. like in total 30 min even when I made an appointment.
Mental health specialist Kristina is amazing! Very comfortable environment kind and respectful staff!! Highly recommend this health center!!
Worst customer service , rude front desk when answering the phone , i always wait minimum of 1 hour even i have an appointment, not a lot of care providers, will transfer somewhere . Been a client for 5 years , but this gotten bad and bad .
On Jan.6.2022 one of the worker openly said my business in front of the staff status and scream out and said take ur Meds I will not refer no one to this place the lady allowed him to disrespect me openly and then didnt say nothing to the gentleman but I tell u Carmen is a come back to him fr.
Didn’t have to wait long for an appointment, and they were super helpful with getting hormones started. Only positive feedback for Apicha !
Dealing with extreme transgender discrimination from your answering service....your service has gone downhill. When I have the chance, I’m switching to another clinic.Never want to be talked to lien that again by an answering service.
Everyone is so kind and sweet and helpful. They understand how people feel anxious about going to the doctor and care for everyone... I’m very happy to have them as a health resource.
Superb healthcare navigation, top-notch doctors, nurses with exceptional Peer Specialists. To add, an incredibly multilingual staff!
Thank goodness for community centers like these that serve the people ♥️ big thank you to the doctors that do what they do, here, you are appreciated so much.
This place is the best....the best people you ever met...everyone is so positive and friendly and super helpful about any and everything...not just about medical...about anything...its like having your own personal team....been a patient/client for years...highly recommended
Been going here for primary care for the past couple of years. Everyone here is super friendly and attentive! Highly recommended, especially for people who identify as QTIPOC
Was nervous about getting the vaccine The young lady who who gave me my vaccine her name was Najah .She answered all my concerns about the vaccine . I’m glad i did it!
I have been going to Apicha for years I love me some Susan she’s very helpful with overall health
My private doctor is at this place , and they are wonderful at this place , I love it and I recommend everyone here ,especially the LGBT community
If you don’t like your job, quit. Don’t give me an attitude on the phone when I wasn’t giving you an attitude. Rude.
To me this place is very nice. Everyone is nice there. And this place reached out to help me when I got nothing when I first moved to America
Great place to wait an hour for a five minute appointment, have your time disrespected, and it’s getting worse
As a trans man this is the first medical center thats really made me feel respected.
Great fast services great doctors dr Suzanne is the best pcp
They failed to continue two critical medications, both simply for clerical negligence.
Doesn’t communicate with patients at all, take over a week to simply refill medications
Always behind schedule. Poorly managed.
Love going there, So polite and respectful. Always feels welcoming whenever I go
Bad service they took your time, so unprofessional they’re not following your appointment/schedule.
This facility is the worst facility no one should be Go there I have been changing four doctors within the past three months this is not a good place to go for your help
Great place to feel at home. Everyone nice and friendly. Genuine people and care.
Great medical team, doctors, nurses, pharmacy and customer service are the best.
Lack of doctors, appointment availability really really limited, hire more staff
Understaffed lots of testing confusion little help with trans care
I love this place, great service and awesome doctors.
Worst bedside manner and customer service Ive ever experienced in my life just do not go
All staff members are absolutely awesome and very helpful.
Super unhelpful reception today.
The place is awesome. Amazing staff.
Dr. Miller is the best!
Very bay
Most efficient with an emphasis on service
Really bad service.
Good service.
CovidVax ?
I have already been a client of this clinic for more than 6 years. Every time the service gets worse and worse. You may have to wait a long time for an appointment. I think its time to change clinics. Today I spent a little less than 2 hours in the clinic for tests and examination by a doctor.
Excellent work team, super good attention, cordiality, excellent Doctors.
Excellent service
