After having a very disempowering experience giving birth in a hospital with my first born, I decided I wanted to do things VERY differently with my second.Twin Cities Birth Center came highly recommended and I was not disappointed.I cannot say enough good things about the entire facility. The staff is phenomenal… every single midwife, nurse and even the front desk are so kind, supportive and great at what they do.My birth experience this time was empowering, powerful, and beautiful.I would go here again in a heartbeat. And if you are wondering if you can handle a natural birth… yes you CAN!I would do a water birth over the epidural any time. Also highly recommend getting a doula!Thank you for everything Twin Cities Birth Center!
When I became pregnant at the end of 2023, I went to a few prenatal appointments at a regular hospital OB setting. Although all of the staff I encountered seemed great, I didn’t feel called to deliver my baby in a hospital. The TCBC was recommended to me by a friend who was going between choosing a birth center and a home birth, and she said she really liked what she knew about TCBC so I decided to book a tour. From that tour moving forward, I felt like TCBC was the right place for me to give birth because I immediately felt heard regarding my wishes for prenatal, labor and delivery, and I felt a sense of peace and calm that I did not experience in the hospital setting. The entire prenatal experience was so enjoyable at TCBC and I always felt like the education and preparation given was very helpful and they were also always so helpful when it came to any additional questions I had.My labor and delivery was FAST and my baby ended up having shoulder dystocia after I was able to deliver her up to her head in the birthing tub. I knew ahead of time, based on the resources they provide, that they were equipped and trained to handle some “OB emergencies” such as this and I am so so thankful for how the team handled my baby’s shoulder dystocia. In a situation that could’ve been hectic and scary, I felt guided, coached, and well taken care of, as well as feeling like my baby was handled with the utmost love and care (as well as my partner, who that was probably kind of scary for). Long story short, it never felt like an emergency. If you are wanting an unmedicated, personalized approach to labor and delivery (and prenatal/postnatal care), I highly recommend TCBC.
How do I describe the love I have for this place? If I were to describe it in a few words, I would describe TCBC as: Welcoming, Safe, Loving, Empowering, Nurturing, Calm and Uplifting.I happened to find myself reading these reviews and saw a one-star review about how a woman didn’t feel safe and felt like the midwife team didn’t transfer her to the hospital in a timely manner. I am very sorry that she feels that way and felt inclined to write her story on these reviews. Since seeing that, I feel like I need to share my story!I have had 2 births at TCBC (2021 and 2023). My prenatal care was hands down the best care I’ve ever received. I went to an OB at a clinic for the first 20 weeks with my first pregnancy and transferring my care to the birth center was the best decision ever! I felt like my voice can be heard here and my wishes and opinions surrounding labor & delivery were supported. When I had my second baby in August 2023, I did end up needing to be transferred to United by ambulance after delivery due to bleeding. The midwives acted fast and stayed calm during the whole process! I never felt worried or that they weren’t handling things for my best interest. My midwife rode in the ambulance with me and advocated for me while at the hospital. Although transfers are rare, they do happen. It was out of my control and I will still will continue to go back to the birth center for my future pregnancies.Thank you to everyone at TCBC for loving and caring for every woman who walks in the door. Nobody could ever receive the same support somewhere else!
I cannot say enough good things about my experiences with Health Foundations! The midwives and the staff have been so kind supportive and caring from the time we walked in the doors for the first time in 2015. Looking back I cannot imagine having my babies anywhere else. I love that they have such an emphasis on educating moms (both first time moms and veterans) about the birthing process and what to expect throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery AND new life with the beautiful person that you bring home. This is something that we truly value in my family and are so grateful to have found here.We also hired our doula through the doula internship program they have available. It was so nice to build a birth team of people that we all there to help and support us in this incredible life changing event. We had such a great connection with her that we had her again for our second birth as well. Our birth experience was a little different between our two kids. With our oldest, Ronin, we went into labor the day after his original due date. Spent the day tracking the contractions at home and went into the birth center once they were strong enough. We were able to have a water birth and have no interventions or pain killers. Looking back it is so empowering! With our second things did not go as smoothly. Our little one went up to 42 weeks and 1 day, despite chiropractic, acupuncture, Cooks catheter, herbal induction, and every position exercise. While we ended up having to go to the hospital for our little miss Opal to be born I was SO GRATEFUL to have our midwife, Catherine, and our doula there through the whole process. After seeing both sides of the process I am so grateful for the education PRIOR to the OMG THIS BABY IS COMING OUT AND YOU WANT ME NOT TO PUSH! part of her labor. Thanks to Catherines calm demeanor and sure thinking we were still able to have Opal vaginally after what they thought was a surprise breach situation (she was chin up not chin down- nose first). As I said, I cannot say enough good things about this birth center and highly recommend Health Foundations to every expecting mom that I know!
We chose TCBC for the pregnancy and birth of our first child and could not be more happy that we did. Longer appointment times allowed us to ask all of our first-time parent questions and feel confident that we were making the best informed choices for our family. We were able to meet each of the midwives during prenatal visits so they were all familiar faces when it came time for labor and birth. The labor and birth process was incredible. I felt supported, heard, and confident that they knew my birth plan and would do what they could to facilitate it. I felt safe the whole way through labor and was able to deliver our baby in the water birth tub which was what I had hoped for. The birth suites themselves are spacious, homey, and calm. My husband and our families whom we shared pictures with were blown away by how serene the birth space looked. For postpartum care, we were able to stay a few hours to be checked-up on, and then went home that same night. Sleeping in our own bed after laboring all day was absolutely perfect and such a gift. Lastly, having 24/7 access to be able to call the midwives and speak directly to a provider was so reassuring and we were able to meet with a lactation consultant multiple times in the first weeks to make sure that we were confident in our plan to feed our baby.Overall, I cannot recommend the care here enough. They have informational tours that I would recommend anyone take just to talk about your health history, whether a birth center is the right fit for you, and what care at a birth center looks like compared to a hospital.
I can’t say enough good things about the birth center and their staff! From touring, to all prenatal care, to delivery, to postpartum, the service and care provided has been nothing short of 5 star. Ashley is amazing at her job, is so helpful and kind, and very organized! Katy in billing is also very organized, helpful and kind. Taylor is a fantastic nurse, incredibly knowledgeable, helpful and kind. All the midwives were superb. The whole staff truly prioritizes informed consent and patient care. I never felt rushed at appointments and always felt very heard. They always gave great explanations of care being offered so that we could make the best choice for our family. I never knew labor could be such a wonderful experience until I delivered here. The nurses, midwives, and students were all so encouraging and empowering. I truly felt I could trust my body to bring this baby earth side. I highly recommend the birth center!!
I was so pleased with the quality of care at TCBC. They took care of me at all milestones of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. I am so thankful for their compassion, expertise, and outlook on providing natural and holistic attention to me and my baby. All of the midwives were exceptional, and really seemed invested in getting to know me and my ideal birth experience. When my son arrived, I was never in doubt that I was in good hands. Although the entire care team was exceptional, Marta, Jessica, and Taylor in particular were the best providers I could have asked for. Although this was my first birth at TCBC, it was my second birth center-style birth; the difference between this one and my last one was significant. I strongly recommend TCBC (and their doula internship program!) to any mamas-to-be.
I absolutely loved my experience at TCBC. From my prenatal care to labor and delivery to postpartum and women’s health care, they practice evidence based medicine and truly educate the patient about the options and respect your preferences. The facility is amazing and so cozy, feels as close to home as you can get without actually being your house. My providers instilled absolute confidence in them and myself. I felt prepared for not only the delivery, but also postpartum, thanks to their prenatal classes (I find this is a rarity among my other mama friends who delivered elsewhere!). The team is easy to get a hold of and delivers patient/centered care in the midst of turbulent times. As a first time mom, they cheered me on through every stage and made me feel very known. I can’t wait to go back!
I had all three of my babies at Twin Cities Birth Center, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else! It is such a welcoming and calm environment, and the people there are amazing! I felt so comfortable with my care during pregnancy, during labor/delivery, after baby came, and for my annual exams. Everyone is so welcoming, and I knew I could put my trust in the midwives/nurses/staff for the health and safety of my babies and me. I highly recommend Twin Cities Birth Center!
Had our birth here on 2023 and couldnt have asked for better care. Very peaceful environment overall. The tub they have is massive and you could just float if needed, this seemed to help me alot in labor. Prenatal care was great as well, we discussed that I wanted a hands off labor and I was so happy to not be poked and prodded every 30mins like they do in hospital. Small complication with bleeding but that was taken care of well and we got to go home. Thank you for being available to those that dont want to be in hospital 🙏
I have nothing but great things to say about Health Foundations. Im 37 weeks pregnant, so I havent yet delivered there, but my care up until this point has been great. They really make me feel respected and valued and cared for and all the midwives and nurses are amazing. I probably interact with Ashley at the front desk the most. She is always super friendly in a genuine way but at the same time professional. I always look forward to going in and saying hello to her and she makes booking appointments and taking payments so simple. Katie in billing has also been super helpful and the time shes taken to help me understand costs and my insurance has been unexpectedly effective. I dont think Id get that level of help elsewhere. Any time Ive emailed with questions from can I take this protein powder to anything more serious, Ive gotten responses quickly from their nurses. Ive had to page a midwife one time on a weekend and received a call back within 2-3 minutes. I have so much confidence in my labor and delivery with them and feel confident in myself and empowered because of my experience so far.
Ive had 2 of my 3 births at Health Foundations and both were wonderful. The staff is fantastic: well trained and personable. During the prenatal visits the midwives really take time to address any questions or concerns in a way that I did not experience with the OB from my first birth, who I liked but our visits were so short. During labor, I found them to be very skilled and a caring presence. And the birth center facilities are lovely. I highly recommend Health Foundations to support you during pregnancy, labor and beyond!
Could not recommend TCBC (health foundations) enough! My son Riggins was born there in March & my husband and I still rave about our experience. We are forever thankful for a place that informs and educates but doesn’t force, and believes in our bodies natural ability to bring our baby into this world. During labor I had the best cheerleaders in my midwives & nurses! They recommended position changes when I was feeling stuck and I felt immense peace in their presence. When all of our post baby visits were done and I said goodbye I felt like I just left some of my newest and dearest friends in the staff there!
I loved their required classes before giving birth, daddies are encouraged to join. Was able to have a natural birth here and loved my experience. I gave birth and then snuggled my baby in a calm, dimly lit room on a real bed. Im hoping to birth my second child here, using the tub, if I have time. They had us leave within 4 hours after giving birth, which made sense. They love babies and support moms throughout pregnancy. They offer resources to help prepare us for postpartum as well as breastfeeding. They have a $50 doula option as well for birth. I had a doula show up the night of and during birth and was more helpful than I imagined. Love love love.
I started getting care here during my first pregnancy in 2020. The team of nurses is incredible. Every time I called the nurse line someone had comforting advice and multiple solutions to my query. The midwives took a genuine interest in me as a person. They listened to my preferences and never made me feel uncomfortable about the choices I made. They always made sure I was well informed and all my questions were answered to my satisfaction. Every midwife that I met with had READ MY CHART which prevented me from having to repeat myself over and over (especially about some sensitive topics, like they all knew who my dog was). I could talk about anything and receive support. They believe in care of the whole woman; if she is growing a baby her health will direct the babys. Their lactation consultant Jayme Jo is the reason I have had a successful breastfeeding journey. She always had multiple tips and tricks to help me get beyond any hurdle I came upon. If you are in need of support I HIGHLY RECOMMEND reaching out. She is wonderful. My most recent birth in June of 2022 was nothing short of magical and I have to give props to the amazing team at TCBC. They listened and responded to my needs. The tub was ever bit as amazing as I imagined and I was able to bring my baby earth-siade in the water as planned. I felt safe and supported throughout my entire labor and immediate postpartum period. I am sad that I am done having babies since they are all so lovely and I have really developed relationships with several of the nurses and midwives. I will continue to get care here for years to come.
I can’t recommend Health Foundations enough. All the staff here are beyond helpful. As first time parents, my husband and I, were very hesitant to not birth at a hospital. After meeting with the staff, we felt at ease and very comfortable moving forward. The care that we received was beyond amazing. We felt like they truly cared to meet every one of our needs and wishes. They took the time to listen to what we wanted and made us feel like family. I can’t wait to have another empowering birth at Health Foundations!
The atmosphere at Health Foundations was so much more loving than a standard clinic. The midwifes gave me the confidence I needed and educated me about the entire pregnancy process. My experience with Health Foundations overall was something I will never forget. I am incredibly grateful for everyone that had a hand in helping me during my pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care. I am so very proud of my journey with Health Foundations and would recommend to anyone wanting a natural birth.
My entire experience at Health Foundations was amazing!I was so scared to become pregnant- so many unknowns. I had no idea what to expect through my journey and while in labor. The midwives and birth classes gave me and my husband all the information we needed to feel in charge of our birth plan. They encouraged me to learn all of my options, gave me detailed information on the spot with pros and cons to every decision (unbiased), encouraged healthy eating, and we truly could not have asked for a better place for our child to be born.My labor was absolutely wonderful! It was even better than my ideal birth plan and the trust I had in the team allowed me to feel safe and supported. Amy and the team guided me through my labor, through my first hours of motherhood, and through my 6 weeks postpartum. I am eternally grateful for there love and support through my journey and would only wish this upon any other family. We also have used Lindsay Deeb as our pediatrician who does well baby visits at Health Foundations and at her clinic Dakota Pediatrics and we highly recommend her!
If you are looking for a Birth Center in the Twin Cities, this one has to be the best. My third baby was born here and his birth was one of the best experiences of my life. A beautiful, undisturbed and fully supported water birth. The care I received both during pregnancy and postpartum were great. They accepted my family with open arms when we moved to their care at 34 weeks pregnant. We love the entire staff and as a Birth Doula I have attended various births here as well. I have always had the utmost respect for the Midwives & nurses and love all the support, knowledge and understanding they bring to the table. Fast forward to a few years later and the Midwives closely walked with me through miscarriage; providing me endless support and empathy with phone calls and appointments. They gave me such a great support system. I really cannot recommend Health Foundations enough.
I cant say enough positive things about Health Foundations. I have had all three of my births here. The care I received was amazing. It was always family centered and tailored for my individual pregnancy and birth. The prenatal visits with the midwives were focused on anything from health and nutrition and education to helping me find solutions to other parenting issues. I always had time to talk about the things that were important. I was never just another patient. When it came time for my births, the support I received was indescribable. They know birth and honor woman and their choices. Hands down this is the place to have your baby. Your life will never be the same! The care doesnt stop when you go home. The postpartum care is also above and beyond what you might expect. More postpartum visits and 24 hour support for breastfeeding with familiar faces.I would not consider any other place to have my babies.
Beautiful facility, caring staff. I drove over 40 miles for each of my appointments because I felt that this would be best place to support me during my unmedicated birth. Unfortunately my baby had other plans and came so quickly, we didnt have time to get to the birth center. They were great about getting my information to the hospital nearest me, and were there for all our follow ups. Such great experiences at all my appointments with each midwife, nurse, and staff member. Almost makes me want to have another baby, so I can birth there like I wanted!
I had our first child there and have gone for my IUD removal and insertion the past year. This place offers outstanding care, even if you’re not pregnant. The midwives and staff are considerate, empathic, skilled and make you feel at ease. I LOVE going back to see them. I live an hour away and go out of my way to come here for my health needs, than anywhere else. They also have a great chiropractor in house. I haven’t been to the acupuncturist or pediatrician, but I doubt they’re anything but excellent.I can’t wait to attend one of their Thursday mom classes. They make the journey of motherhood easier to transition to, with all the support they give. And you can tell they truly care about their patients; you’re not just another mom & baby to push through. They remember you by name, love receiving photos, and encourage you to stop by!
I had a great experience with Health Foundations with my surrogate pregnancy and birth. They were super attentive to my needs and also the parents needs. My labor ended up being very fast and was an accidental home birth (whoops!) but Rachel the midwife got there quickly at 2 AM and talked me and my husband through it all on the phone before she got there. Would recommend health foundations to anyone!
I gave birth here in September 2022 and had almost all my prenatal care here as well. I cannot say enough good things about the friendly, gentle spirit of the midwives and staff; the empowering birth experience in such a tranquil, supportive setting; and the high-quality, evidence-based, consent-focused care throughout pregnancy and labor. I really appreciated the doula internship program and took advantage of the low-cost doula services through that. 100% recommend TCBC to any moms looking for an unmedicated birth and truly personalized prenatal care experience - I plan to come here again with future pregnancies!
I can not rave enough to others about our experience with Health foundations!! LOVE THEM! The quality of care we received only seemed to increase for us as we went through pre-natal care, birth/delivery, & postpartum visits. Every visit, both my husband and I, felt important, listened to, and spent good time to answer our questions well & thoroughly without feeling like a number! The midwifes and staff are all very caring, personable, kind & gentle. We loved the homey atmosphere that made us feel comfortable, but was also very professional. As first time pregnancy & parents, we felt very well equipped with the knowledge and education we received from our classes there, and with many resources available to us. You are well informed a head of time of the complications that could arise, and the processes and procedures that will be taken should those things happen, so you arent caught off guard by these things in the middle of birth. You put together your own personalized birth plan.We greatly appreciate & were drawn to Health Foundations for their philosophy to birth... that womens bodies are designed to give birth & they approach is as little intervention to that natural process as possible. Because of this they have a very low emergency transfer rate.My birth team was amazing(Amy, Monica, & Jen)!, and my birth story was a wonderful peaceful experience for me. Throughout my delivery I felt so supported, encouraged and empowered every step of the way to successfully birth my baby naturally. Everyone on my team had a very calming presence, and there was never a point where they communicated to me in a fear filled or anxious way. And there were definitely points of concern, which in a normal hospital setting intervention would have taken place, but because of their experience and knowledge that didnt need to happen! They are are so good at what they do, and do it in such a peaceful but confident way. You can tell they love what they do =)I was surrounded by my team(midwives, doulas, & husband) until the very end, and i felt they had a wonderful balance of taking care of me(physically & mentally), but allowing me to birth how my body needed, coupled with gentle & instructed coaching when needed.Out little one also sees Lindsey Deeb, the pediatrician there. She is also so wonderful, personable & respectful of our decisions. All in all my experience there was everything I hoped!(Sign of relieve!) We will definitely we be going back for future pregnancies and other care there!
I wish I could give a 10 star rating! Everyone at Health Foundations invested in our care and well-being, not just the midwives. The labor experience was nothing short of phenomenal, the team, top notch. I ended up with an emergency near the end of labor that they handled with urgency but complete calmness. I trust them completely and left feeling empowered, beautiful, and strong. Health Foundations feels like family and I would recommend them a hundred times over for pregnancy and well-woman care!
I was at Health Foundations for the birth of two of my children and the experience there is beyond compare. The time that the nurses and midwives invest in patients builds such a strong relationship and establishes trust. As a patient, I felt known, I felt valued, and I felt like I had a team of people cheering for my health, the health of my baby, and a healthy birth experience. Appointments never felt rushed. Any questions or concerns were promptly addressed (even during non-business hours). I love Health Foundations so much that we joked about having another baby just for the experience of being in their care again. I cannot recommend Health Foundations highly enough!
Our experience at Health Foundations was incredible. I didnt realize birth could be as beautiful and enjoyable as it was! I gave birth to our first child at Health Foundations a couple months ago, and the care we received from the beginning of my pregnancy to the end (and beyond) was unlike anything Id experienced in other healthcare settings. All of the staff, nurses, and midwives were extremely kind, genuine, professional, and knowledgable. I was so grateful for the way they always made my husband and I feel like we could ask every question we had and wanted to make sure we were well-informed. They were available whenever we had questions both during pregnancy and into postpartum. We felt truly cared for. I am already looking forward to (eventually) having another baby at HF!
I wish that every pregnant mother could receive the level of care that I received at Health Foundations Birth Center. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to the owners, midwives, nurses, receptionists and birth assistants that work there. Every single person showed compassion and genuine affection towards me and my family. I hope more freestanding birth centers will follow in Health Foundations footsteps. I only wish that more states would allow such centers to operate. The intimate environment makes for a nice compromise between hospital birth and a more traditional home birth.
I had my first child in a hospital and wanted a different experience for my second. I had my first appointment at HF at 10 weeks, and delivered on my due date. Throughout, I felt incredibly supported and listened to. I was able to have a peaceful, gentle labor and delivered my son in a waterbirth, which is definitely what I would choose again. My son had feeding difficulties and the nurse called every day to offer advice and support, and I also attended the weekly breastfeeding/moms group. I ultimately ended up pumping because he couldn’t nurse, but that’s okay. I loved everything about my experience with HF!
We had a wonderful experience at Health Foundations, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for personalized care throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and post-partum. Everyone from the midwives to the nurses to the front-desk staff were wonderful, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain and give options. Our baby (currently 6 months old) is wonderfully healthy and thriving, and we believe that our health care at Health Foundations has much to do with that!
At Health Foundations, you will receive top notch care from loving and supportive midwives, nurses, and staff. The space is absolutely gorgeous, and you will feel like your family is #1 at each and every appointment (and especially at the birth!). I delivered two of my three babies at Health Foundations and would have another one JUST to deliver there again! (Dont tell my husband that though. He thinks 3 girls is plenty enough. :)) If you havent scheduled a tour yet, do so TODAY!!
I started coming to Health Foundations when I was 16 weeks. I ended up having to have my son at United with the OB from Health Foundations, Dr Hartung, who was absolutely amazing. Though I was not able to have my son the way we planned due to health complications that required a hospital I would not change a thing. The support I received from Health Foundations was amazing. The midwives are knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate.Plus it always smells amazing in the center and it is close to Bread and Chocolate . I will absolutely go there again if I have another child. I know that no matter what whether I can have my next child there , or If I need to go to United again with Dr. Hartung, I will get the best care there is to get.
This place was simply amazing every step of my pregnancy! They treat you with respect and are so helpful from day 1. I had my baby there last night and the midwife and nurse were more helpful than my Doula! They went above and beyond at every appointment to the day I gave birth to be helpful, considerate, respectful, full of knowledge, and caring. Perfect combination of doing things naturally and medically neccisary or highly recommended but they will let you call the shots on what you feel is best for you and your baby! I simply loved my experience here!
After having our first child in a local hospital, we decided that our next child would be born in a different setting so we started looking for a midwife. We found Amy at Health Foundations and met her when we were pregnant with our 2nd child. We loved her and the whole experience from that first meeting. Each visit with a midwife at Health Foundations is a wonderful experience. They truly care about you as a person and are very knowledgeable on the whole pregnancy and birthing process. They take time to answer your questions and are always there when you need. The staff cares about each client, and it shows each time you walk in for an appointment. Amy and her staff respect your choices as a mom from the beginning to the end of your pregnancy. We have had two children with Amy in the comfort of our home. We would be honored to be under her care again if we ever are blessed with another child. If you are in the process of finding a midwife, Health Foundations is a great choice!
I’ve had 3 babies with health foundations, one with a hospital transfer where we brought the midwife with. She singlehandedly kept me out of a c section even though the nurse and other doctors were pushing for it. Baby was born healthy, it just took a long time. There isn’t a single thing I would change about the process. They’ve gotten better every pregnancy and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Even though my partner couldn’t come to my appointments due to COVID I can honestly say I felt calm and supported by the midwives and didn’t feel like he was “missing”. When it came time for baby to come other than the masks nothing changed. 10/10 would recommend without even a hint of hesitation. When we did hypnobabies everyone in the room used the language.Working with the women of health foundations has been an amazing experience all around, we live 45 minutes away and I will be commuting for my well woman visits.
We had a beautiful prenatal, delivery and postpartum experience at Health Foundations. My sons delivery was warm and compassionate - attended by two calm and loving midwives and a very knowledgeable nurse. We were all very happy with how everything went!
I highly suggest this birthing center if you are trying to avoid the hospital surroundings while also not wanting to give birth at home. They are well worth it, in my opinion. The only thing I had trouble with was that I chose outright to formula feed and there werent any staff with much knowledge, and it did make me feel a little left out when every conversation about feeding in classes was focused on a single way to feed. The staff did try to accommodate my choice after I explained it to them and requested they be more informed so they can answer my questions. My son was born on his due date 100% healthy and perfect. I had no complications at all, and wasnt worried because the hospitals they partner with (and have you register at just in case) are so close, and prepared for you. I honestly couldnt have asked for a better experience for the birth of my son and am planning on coming back for my next in a few years!
We birthed our first child at Health Foundations in 2014. The wonderful care and support we received during my pregnancy was inconceivably better than that of the Allina OB we transferred from. All of our decisions were not only honored but also supported. I had an incredibly empowering experience. I truly could not have dreamed up a better support team for our first baby!
I gave birth to children #3(2017) #4 (2020), and #5 (2022) here. After having #1 (2012) in a hospital, I decided there had to be better choices. I had #2 (2014) in another birthcenter with Rosa O. Twin Cities Birth Center was a compromise with my husband, as I wanted to try a homebirth. If youre not yet sure about midwives and birthcenters, please read any and all of Ina Mae Gaskins books on midwifery.Looking back, Google says I stayed at the birthcenter for 4 hour, 6hrs 30 minutes, and 16 hours respectivelyFor the curious, I was 35, 38, and 40 at the time of birth. My babies were 10lbs 2oz. , 9lbs 6 oz, and 8lbs 15 oz. For reference #1 was 20 hours of labor +48 hours in the hospital, she was 8lbs 11 oz. #2 was 24 hours of labor + 4 hours in the birthcenter, he was 8lbs 11oz.The prenatal experience for a hospital based group of midwives and the birth center was comparable, i.e. same test option(s), same screenings, frequency of prenatal visits, birthcenter even offers ultrasound. The midwives are more at ease in the birthcenter during the visits and they either know you or are better about pre-reading charts. (Anyone else have a Dr. spend the appt. reading your charts?)The birthcenter experience really pulled ahead of a hospital for me during the actual births. The midwives encourage you to stay at home for early labor ( yes good idea, do not panic). When you arrive at the birthcenter, your babies heart rate is checked every half hour and yours too! Otherwise youre given free reign over your labor. I really like sitting on a birthball and leaning forward onto a card table. Then I could look into my husbands eyes during each rush of sensation. For our last baby, the midwives gave some suggestions for how to get better positions for getting good labor going. Our #3 baby came very quickly and having a birthstool to sit on helped her big old 10 lbs to come out easily. Amazing! Using gravity to help birth you baby, what crazy things will science come up with next. Our #4 had shoulder dystocia, I was So Thankful for midwives then, (Rachel high five!) they had me get into an all fours position to get her body out, and since enough seconds had passed since her head was born, they were on the phone with 9-1-1, even as I was pushing her body out. She did take a trip to Childrens NICU over concern of low oxygen in the hour after her birth. At Childrens their oximeter was more sensitive and she was perfectly fine.Baby #5, we came in a little too early, given how fast the girls were born the midwives errored on the side of caution. As it was early morning/ late night labor piddled along and we got to have lots of help with this one. The nicest was a chiropractic alignment, his head was slightly off-center, oblique lie if I remember correctly, and that really helped get him into position. Then his head could help those tired muscles get everything nice and open and he was born a couple hours later. After I told my midwife I can feel these change, were not opening up anymore, these are pushing down contraction Kayla (another high five!) had me take the stance ...like on the Captain Morgan bottle... yup, that did the trick he was born so smoothly after that. Oh and cried loudly, no repeat NICU visits for us.After the births-#3 I had some labial tearing, they stitched it well and then you just get to snuggle your sweet baby and nurse. A midwife visits you at home the next day.#4 very different, my husband carried my baby in the ambulance so after monitoring me to make sure I was OK,and feeding me all the food wed brought along, the midwives drove me to the NICU. They did show me the placenta and bag of waters as they were examining it, way cool how your body makes the perfect home for a tiny human#5, No tears! I have been very cognizant about this after a Dr. in the hospital gave me an episiotomy for #1, we had frozen chili to have as our post-birth meal, and no meal ever tastes as good as what you eat right after giving birth. Your body gives you some megadoses of happy hormonesThank you!
Health foundations made my dream of a natural birth an incredibly beautiful reality! Gosh labor was a life changing and miraculous journey and I could not have done it without the amazing support of the health foundations team! A special thanks to my beautiful mid wife Rachel and birth assistant Sophie, they helped make the birth of my perfect baby boy the magical experience that it was! I knew I was in good hands they allowed me to give birth with no fear :) I strongly recommend health foundations to any woman that wants to experience the incredible reward of natural birth :)
I had 3 amazing and peaceful unmedicated births at Twin Cities Birth Center! Loved my birth experiences and wouldn’t trade them for the world. The staff including front desk, nurses, midwives and honestly everyone was amazing, friendly and really listened to what you needed and wanted. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Having no immediate family besides my husband within 4 hours driving distance, I wanted to find a place that felt like home to give birth to my baby. Health Foundations is truly that place! From the prenatal checkups all the way to thw postpartum visits, HF and the nurses, midwives, and birth assistants felt like family from day one.I was given information to make the best decisions for my family and I concerning labor and delivery.I labored overnight while my midwife guided me in exercises and my husband guided my breaths. Our baby was born in the tub with my husband holding me through every single contraction. I wasnt hooked up to any machines. I played my music and sang along. And every time I think back to the birth of my son I am happy. I gave birth how I wanted, in the environment I wanted, and with a family of practioners I know I wouldnt be able to find anywhere else.Even though Id love to move back closer to my own family, I plan on staying in Minneapolis as long as we are growing our family because I dont want to give birth anywhere besides Health Foundations!
Fantastic birth center, with amazing mid-wives! They provided excellent care for us throughout the pregnancy, and helped us have an amazing birth experience at home to cap it all off. We love Amy and all the people who work here caring for moms. Check this birth center out, we love them, and cant say enough good things about them!
The midwives, nurses and birth assistants at Health Foundations provided the best possible experience for me and my family. They truly provided the best combination of evidenced based medicine and patient centered midwifery. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Anyone looking for natural birth center for natural birthing unlike the hospital births this is the best place to go. They do not have doctors but they have well trained mid wives , doulas , nurses. My wife is half way through her pregnancy and so far we had very good experience with all the mid wives , nurses, billing department and receptionist. Health foundation accepts all medical insurances. Few insurance policy require referral from your primary health care. We were referred to this place by one of our close friends who experienced birthing at this place. They totally had a great experience. We agree to that totally and also looking forward for the last trimister. Health foundation also provides child birth classes and tailored to fit the experience of natural birthing.HF also tied up with blooma for yoga sessions once a month on first Tuesday. They also have good accupunters and chriopracters. The clinic is in Very comfortable home and makes you feel at home. Every one at this center has so much patience and very helpful. We are happy and feel right about our decision so far. My wife is much relived , stress free and enjoying the experience. We highly recommend this place for anyone planning or in the phase of pregnancy.
Health Foundations is very beautiful place with the most wonderful staff. Every time Ive gone there Im treated like family. I have nothing but good to say about the staff Ive come in contact with - Liz, Amy, Rachel, Jessica, Cassie, etc. Very sweet woman, who are all compassionate and down to earth. I love that Health Foundations offers yoga, chiropractic, and acupuncture. Dr. Amber (chiro) is also fantastic!
Had a wonderful birthing experience here. SO MUCH amazing support during pregnancy as they provisw lots of encouragement to help you prepare for labor both mentally (they were like therapists at times for me) and physically (held me accountable for healthy eating and exercising habits) and then the labor experience is fantastic.
Saved My Wife and Babys Life! During labor, my wife had a Cord Prolapse. The quick thinking of the attending midwife and the staff ensured the safe transportation of my wife to Regions Hospital for an emergency C-section. Forever grateful to Jessica and her team.
Everyone here is amazing! The quality of care is wonderful. Its not just a doctors office, its a place that has become a second home. The staff are all encouraging, knowledgeable and have become family. I cannot recommend them enough!
Both of our kids were delivered here and I cant imagine doing it any other way. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and very supportive at every step of the way. (Be sure to ask about their other postpartum events, such as visiting the Afton Apple Orchard.)
Everyone at health foundations is welcoming and compassionate, from the front desk attendant to the midwives. Ive always felt very well heard and taken care of here!
Everyone here has always gone above and beyond to answer my questions and meet my needs. They have helped me so much!
Highly recommend to expectant parents who want a personalized experience with skilled practitioners.
Though they claim to offer vbacs, it is only for those who have already had a vbac. And though it seems like a lovely place, they were unclear on their vbac policies until we had already made the drive in.
We are very exicted to have our baby here. All the staff have spectacular knowledge and patient communication. Thanks for all your services thus far!
Loved my entire experience with Health foundations. Could not have had a better pregnancy and birth.
We had our baby here, and it went great! They helped us every step of the way.
Wonderful place, wonderful staff - has both my babies there and would have a third there if I wanted more kids! :)
Had both of our beautiful Daughters here and couldnt have been happier.
