Dr. Brackett has been my PCP for nearly 20yrs now. Despite a few glitches ( not specific to him or Fenway) Ive received good empathetic care. Never experienced any problems with appointments as many seem to report. The care team has been very responsive to refill requests which for me has been problematic elsewhere! Overall, I can highly recommend Dr. Brackett and Fenway.
There is a great deal of positive things to say. The medical adherence team led by Jimmy Kamel, Cat, and Mariah have been there thru my ups and downs. Its been pivotal in my self-esteem and dealing with PTSD. The behaviorial team has been amazing from the receptions Iris and Diana, who are welcoming and warm to Rebecca and Ray, who only have my best interest. Finally, I couldnt ask for a kinder, more compassionate Dr in Alessandro Cavalare. The pharmacy staff are fantastic. Esp Tyler, who takes the time to know you and care.
Tldr; no consistency. they’re amazing when it’s done right but inconveniences happen most of the time.I’ve been a patient for 5 years now. Great if you get in and can have consistent doctors. There is consistent communication with the medical staff when using MyChart, but psych just doesn’t respond to anything. Also, i understand that the therapy demand to therapist ratio isn’t great but there’s no effort to giving outsourcing options, only a 24hr crisis therapist on their behavioral health line.Phlebotomy is a major hit or miss. I’ve had a phlebotomist really mess up my hand and i had to go to urgent care. I still use them because I need assurance of a trans friendly provider though. I do leave if it’s an obviously new phlebotomist due to my discomfort.I lucked out and got an amazing optometrist, highly recommend Alisha Musau if you’re able to ask. She was great with all my questions and she was very thorough.Don’t bother with their eyeglasses shop. The guy who did the pupillary distance was very judgy over the fact I was getting insurance covered glasses and laughed at me when I asked about the other glasses along the walls as well as lens options. Just unnecessary.
Sad that Dr Boswell was forced to leave. He was the BEST DOCTOR for both myself and my partner. No comparison. Only frustration the past seven years trying to find a new doctor with the skillset and knowledge related to HIV treatment --especially for long-term survivors. MISS HIS EXPERTISE every day --so does my health!!!!!!!!!
I have seen Jimmy Kamel NP and his team since 2019. Jimmy & his team such as the nurses Cat & Mariah are so sweet, helpful, communicative and down to earth. They treat me like an equal which is rare these days. they have helped me immensely. My family & i moved to arkansas for a year and it made me realize how great my providers were and are at fenway and it was one of the deciding factors of us moving back here. 💖i also have seen Dr. Viloria for OB since i found out i was pregnant in 2022 with my second son. she performed my csection as well as the one to have my daughter this past february! she has the best personality, vibrant, kind, (i always leave the office in a better mood after my appts) she works hard and is consistent and thorough with my care. she is incredible but i just learned she is leaving fenway health.💖 she will be sadly missed.🥺 what a loss. but it definitely needs to be said that her team of nurses and admin staff are also amazing. Jasmin was such a great nurse to me when i was pregnant and i really felt like shecared. they are all very prompt at getting back to me via mychart and have great communication skills. To those struggling to get through via phone.. i try not to call unless it’s really important because it can be very hard to get through which i totally understand. a lot of people don’t realize how many calls large doctors offices receive. so i find it best to message them on mychart and i always get a quick response! you can do almost anything from the new portal. very user friendly (i’m not just saying this!)thank you fenway staff for everything you do!
Horrible. Im deadnamed constantly, despite having had my name legally changed. They have the funcitonality to change it in the EHR system (They told me) but its Fenway Healthys policy that it doesnt get changed until we go through insurance, which is a barrier to getting things done quickly efficiently and safely. Additionally, Dr. Adelstein clearly and egregiously violated HIPPA on a telehealth call; i reported it to the health center and the doctor still works there, ackowledged that it happened but said she had her earphones in so it didnt matter, despite someone being visible in the background of her call and that person being able to hear what she was saying. Apparently she had a screen protector on so he couldnt see me but thats frankly not good enough. At all.
This is a terrible place. I was very sick a few days ago and from the symptoms I thought it might be an STI, so I decided to go to the walk-in clinic. I live in the south shore and I wanted to go to Fenway Health because as a gay man I have experienced prejudice and judgment for my sexuality in the area I am in at the doctor’s office. I knew walk in hours for the STI clinic ended at 4pm and having to drive over an hour I left so I would get there before 3pm. I got there at 2:45pm, over an hour before the clinic closed at 4. The first woman I saw sent me to the desk to check in, I went to the desk and the man at the desk said, “sorry but you’re too late”. I pointed out that it is 2:45 and the hours on the website say 4pm. He said, “yeah but we have 5 people waiting already so we can’t see you.” I explained to him I was feeling very ill and drove over an hour to specifically come to Fenway to avoid the discrimination I faced in the past as a gay man and he rolled his eyes and said come back tomorrow. I told him I purposely made sure I would get there well before 4pm and it isn’t easy for me to just come back tomorrow and I felt so sick I asked if there was an urgent care and he said “I don’t know” which seemed odd to me since he works there. He asked the woman and she said no. At that point I was so frustrated with his rude and dismissive attitude I said thanks and left. I thought Fenway was supposed to be a welcoming and compassionate place for members of the LGBTQ community but my experience there was anything but, which is particularly sad because when I lived in Boston years ago I came here frequently and it was much better. After I left I had to drive home which took almost 2 hours in traffic and went to an urgent care and received compassionate and competent care. I will never go to Fenway Health again and all my gay friends I told about my experience said they stopped going there a while ago because they’re so rude and incompetent. Wish I knew that before I drove all the way there while feeling so sick to find out the hard way that Fenway Health has become so awful.
I had six primary care doctors at Fenway Health during my ten years as a patient. I had been waiting to see my primary doctor since January 2022. The appointment was scheduled for May, and he canceled at the last-minute email: “Call our office to reschedule.” During my ten years of care, all my providers were White, except for a Spanish-speaking social worker for two years, and it was because I had to write to the Board of Directors. I felt underrepresented, and doctors pathologized some cultural aspects of my heritage, or I had to explain them often to be understood. I believed that I needed to receive care at Fenway Health because of my sexual orientation, and no other place would treat me decently, but the current times made me realize that’s inaccurate.
Ive been a patient for 22 years. Back then Fenway was a lifeline and a beacon for those of us in the LGBTQ community. They had a 5star staff and the doctors were incredible. But today it is so bad I sometimes question the competence of those treating me. I will say that my doctor there now is amazing and always listens and addresses my concerns but everyone else seems to be out to lunch. They make mistakes, repeatedly. And today I went for a dental cleaning and when I went to schedule my 6 month cleaning I was told they were already booked for 6 month cleanings and that the next available was 11 months out. I said that was bizarre that I couldnt get a 6 month cleaning scheduled since that is pretty much standard practice to avoid issues with your teeth. And the response I got was If you know of any dental hygienists looking for work to let them know that theyre hiring. I took the appointment but I am going to look for another dental provider.
Ive gone twice and both times I was seen almost immediately. Everyone I saw was nice and knowledgeable. I recommend Sarah Larsen and Jason Latsky.
I’ve been going to Fenway since I was 16 I’m 36 now I’m still going there. They have the best doctors
I have been a patient at Fenway health for over 11 years. Hormones replacement therapy primary care and pain management. Since then I have been switched to 4 doctors.. I was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in my spine. Constant slipped discs(3) numerous MRI and X-rays. Chiropractor. Physical therapy. I was prescribed pain medication over a year ago and on it on a daily basis to help with the chronic pain. Never go a day without pain. Explained to my doctor on a scar of 1-10 I’m always a constant 8. My doctor doctor pillay left 3 weeks ago. My prescription was supposed to be filled on the 30th. She left the 28th. So I told the hospital I’m putting it in early because one I’m out and two she’s leaving and I wanna make sure I get my medication. Was told I’d be fine. We’ll… on the 30th my medication was removed. Told my new doctor I needed the medication because I can’t sleep I’m in pain I’m nauseous from the pain daily. Was told by his nurse I need testing done and approvals now so I was CUT OFF COLD TURKEY. Have been going through withdrawals never contacted once. I am leaving this hospital due to the constant neglect. Misdiagnosis and sheer unprofessionalism my quality of life has diminished with the pinched nerves. Severe pain in my back ..depression. Numbness in my right arm daily. I can’t sleep at night. Can’t have sex. The back pain causes messed up urinary issues. And yet no help … I have completely lost hope due to the negligence of this firm
All I will say is always check your explanation of benefits and what they bill you. They seem to be overcharging and it’s all good if your insurance covers it but if not, be ready for a sticker shock!
I usually go to the South End location and never had a problem. Came to Fenway for immunization with an appointment. I had to wait more than an hour just to be called. They put in a room and the nurse left me there for another 30 min. Is not ok to play with people’s time like that. What’s the point of scheduling an appointment?Just want to clarify that the person at the front desk was very helpful
What is going on at this place? I’ve had at least 5 different PCPs in the past few years. I just got assigned a new one and a couple weeks later received a message that he’s leaving. I hadn’t even seen him yet. This place is an absolute disaster.
Do not work here. You will not be paid for your OT, your managers and coworkers will not keep your privacy and tell you every line in the book so that you won’t quit and continue being abused by patients and staff alike.Nepotism hires and unprofessional patient care under the guise of “we’re doing our best for YOU as patients”It is not worth the mental stress and emotionally energy to be seen here - your best bet is to get what you need for gender affirming care, and then get out. There are a HANDFUL, of providers who make Fenway great, but they are drowned out by the majority.Managers, hire ups, COO, CEO etc, do not have an interest in listening to the patient public when it comes to concerns, nor their own staff. For your own sake, stay away and find an LGBTQ provider in Boston elsewherePersonal experience as an employee, I was never paid 10 hours of OT by the time I left, because it had been conveniently “corrected” prior to my leaving. Don’t trust your bosses not to change your hours worked behind your back, because they will.
Physician myself and unable to get a semi urgent appointment scheduled. Scheduling an appointment back in Switzerland for better access to care.
Theres simply no reason that it takes nearly a year to be alerted that a co-pay was not in fact paid - for an appointment where a professional was both rude and more than an hour late. Disappointed as a former member of volunteer fundraising leadership. Im sorry to anyone I ever asked for money to benefit this organization.
I had a physical scheduled for 12 months. On a Tuesday morning, arrived 30 minutes early like they request. I waited 30 minutes for my appointment to start and just when I thought I’d be called in, the receptionist informed me that my doctor was actually telehealth that day and I could do a telehealth appointment or reschedule. I elected to reschedule for Friday morning of the same week. Friday comes around, I receive the reminder email 45 minutes before my appointment starts. I arrive at Fenway health and as I walk in I get a phone call that my appointment was canceled. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOUR PERSONAL TIME AND CLEARLY DONT KNOW HOW TO MANAGE A SCHEDULE.
Ive always felt respected and listened to by my healthcare provider - until I came to Fenway Health. Ive had 4 different PCPs at the 1340 Boylston location in the last 2 years. Ive never once authorized a switch. I have never seen the same PCP more than twice.I went to Fenway to change the route of administration for one of my medications, as I was experiencing unwanted side affects from my topical medication. I saw 4 different providers (4 different co-pays) to change my dosing method. The marker used to test the effectiveness of my treatment prior to the change was ~650 on a scale of 250-1100. After changing the route of administration, despite expressing my concern to my providers, my test came back at 84 on a scale of 250-1100.I have been experiencing extreme symptoms due to the crash in my levels. Ive attempted to reach my care team for 4 consecutive days with no result. I finally reached a member of the nursing team, who asked me to AGAIN have a telehealth with my provider for ANOTHER COPAY.When I raised this as a problem to my care team, they suggested an increase to my dose of ~20%. I expressed that I didnt feel like this was enough. The provider said this was all she could do.While Im not a medical provider, I understand that a patients experience should carry weight when making a clinical decision at a healthcare organization. My life has been uprooted by the changes made by the Fenway Health care team. It was a horrible experience and I recommend that Fenway Health be avoided by anyone seeking quality care.EDIT: After asking them to send my prescriptions to another pharmacy, confirmed over the phone, I drove 40 minutes to the new pharmacy, only for the new pharmacy to not have my medications. Fenway closed and now I’m sitting here unsure what to do. Fenway Health is the most disappointing healthcare provider I’ve ever experienced.
James Lunderville was assigned to be my therapist last summer. On our first meeting, I asked him a series of questions, hoping to get informed answers, for which I could use to guage whether he was qualified to address my needs. After sharing my experience with him, and asking how therapy could help me , he responded callously, we dont fix people. Thankfully, we were meeting on zoom, otherwise I may have spit in his face. His lack of empathy, insight, and competence was truly an illuminating moment. It made me realize that its inept therapists like him, who cause those seeking help to go at it alone, and shy away from seeking treatment.
I am sharing this review only with regards to Dr Mitra. I saw her a few times while she was working on Boylston Street at Fenway. Then she transferred to BETH ISRAEL DEACONESS. MY FINAL VISIT WITH HER WAS AUGUST OF 2023. SHE CONTINUOUSLY TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD ME ON A CERTAIN MEDICINE AND IT DIDNT WORK OUT AND SHE TOOK ME OFF 2 WEEKS LATER. I was confused because I have heard of this medicine but I know for a fact I was never ever on itI TOLD HER I WAS NEVER ON THAT MEDICINE AND SHE KEPT GASLIGHTING ME TELLING ME YES I WAS. SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE APPOINTMENTI TOLD HER THAT SHE MUST BE CONFUSING ME WITH SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE I WAS NEVER ON THE MEDICATION LISINOPRIL EVER.. she replied yes you were.SHE ONLY TRIED TO CALL ME BACK in September 2023 NOT TO APOLOGIZE BUT ONLY BECAUSE I TOLD MY PRIMARY CARE AT FENWAY ABOUT THE INTERACTION with her. I WILL NEVER EVER SEE HER AGAINBY THE WAY I hung up on her when she did call me in september.SHE CALLS OUT SICK A LOT.If I could have given her zero Stars I would have shes a disgrace and a gas lighter and she has no idea what patients are on what medicine. ALSO IN THE WAITING AREA BEFORE I WENT INTO THE OFFICE WITH HER SHE ASKED ME IF I HAD HAD A PROCEDURE DONE. WITH OTHER PEOPLE AROUND.
If you’re looking for care where they don’t actually provide it, this is the hospital for you. I’ve tried countless times to get my medication with little to no help or care about the situation. My hormone levels have been all over the place since they’ve made it impossible to take my medication on a consistent schedule.
If you’re trans, don’t even bother coming here. I’ve been coming here for years & never had a problem. In recent years it’s been hell. I have issues getting refills, my pharmacist calls and calls with no answer and no returned call about refills. i’ve called dozens of times, left messages, never receiving a call back. i haven’t spoken to my doctor directly in over 2 years. I have not had blood work done to test my t levels in 2 years. They accidentally raised my dose recently, when i called to correct them, they insisted i was wrong and they were right (my pharmacist confirmed it was raised). They are inconsistent and unreliable. I have messaged them countless times about the dosage being raised per the instructions despite not having blood work done in years, they read the messages but ignore my concerns & do not respond. I have had to buy supplies out of pocket because of their inconsistency with refills & as far as getting hormone refills, it’s next to impossible. it took them 3 months to finally refill a prescription after i called about 20 times due to a testosterone shortage and my pharmacist only having a different type available. i never speak to my medical team & can not recall the last time i did. i am still experiencing major issues as far as hot flashes, mood swings, break outs because my hormones are a mess. they have not raised my dose once in 3 years & have absolutely no idea what my levels look like because they never order blood work. my pharmacist quite literally seems to care more about me than my doctor does & has even asked me themselves to try going somewhere else because this places lack of communication is that atrocious, with me and with mypharmacy. with that being said, if you are transgender or looking into hormone therapy, DO NOT go here. i am actively looking for a new doctor because the level of unprofessionalism, potential danger & inconsistency is ridiculous.
I was a patient at Fenway for 7 years, mostly with the same PCP who was AMAZING. However over the last several years, the organization and accessibility of Fenway has CRATERED. Its impossible to get an appointment with any urgency, they are struggling through another system change which has them scrambling to try and talk efficiently to each other, let alone other providers, and there is absolutely no way of communicating with your provider unless you send a message through their portal which they may or may not reply to in 48-109209 hours.I eventually had to get out of there, because it was raising my blood pressure every time I had to deal with them. Its unfortunate because they have great providers, but the administration there is PAINFULLY INEPT.
I can see why my PCP left this practice. Since he left, it has been impossible to even get a basic yearly physical.I called in March to schedule a physical. Despite being a patient of Fenway Heeslth, I didnt have a PCP so no appointment could be made. I was assured that new physicians would be on boarded in the next 6 to 8 weeks and that they would be taking on new patients. I was told that Fenway would reach out. Its September and obviously nothing can of it.Switched to One Medical. Much better service and they have a technology platform that works.
Long time primary care patient whos stunned at how far this place has fallen. Ive not had a physical in three years; in the last year I was able to book a physical two separate times--but each appointment was canceled by Fenway Health just beforehand, with no explanation given. Im hopeful that under new leadership the organization will rebound.
This place has really gone down hill in the last few years. My PCP has changed at least once a year due to such a high turnover. Its impossible to even get an appointment here in person with anyone, never mind your actual PCP. They keep you waiting for upwards of an hour for appointments and lab work.Theres also a lack of professionalism with communication. Ive left multiple messages that just never get returned, despite how important they are. My last appointment here was with yet again a new provider I have never met. He misdiagnosed me and wrote me a prescription that I did not need. He ran in and out of the room as fast as he could, which gave me the impression he wasnt really even listening to me.Ive also had interactions here with providers who were extremely judgmental and dismissive, which is just a code of ethics issue and inexcusable. In short, I would not recommend this facility to anyone. I am switching to another office after being a patient here for the last 5 years.
I am desperately looking to replace my primary care. Ive been going to Fenway Health for over 10 years. It is impossible to get through to my provider and when I do he doesnt help at all with the issues I have. YOu send an email through MyChart to my doctor, someone responds that they have received the email and will get it to the doctor, then most times that will be the end of the email thread, with no response from the doctor. Or you will get a response from a nurse, that does NOTHING to help resolve the situation. Terrible terrible terrible. ESPECIALLY when you have an issue that you need medical assistance with. They should not be able to see any patients if they are unwilling or unable to assist.
Devastating to see such an incredible institution fail so quickly. From appointments canceled only minutes prior to start time, rude, dismissive providers who dont listen to patient concerns, are 60+ minutes late to appointments, clearly dont take any time to read charts, and then push medications that are clearly out of the scope of care to the organization straight out lying to patients regarding communication of providers leaving, it is all a mess. After 7 years and countless hours personally and professionally hyping up and supporting Fenway, I no longer can in good conscience seek medical care there.
They couldnt mail a Christmas card to their mother, let alone handle the complexity of paperwork for a medical center. Every single claim they send to the wrong place. Random insurers that I never suggested, in the end for every visit, expect 5 hours in admin to deal with the absolute clusterf**k their admin staff cause by their inability to deal with paperwork. Medical practitioners seem competent, but seriously, plan to take 1 day off work to manage paperwork for every time you see them as this is what their back office black hole causes.
If you can actually see a provider, they seem really empathetic and knowledgeable. Their scheduling department is horrendous though. Appointments are cancelled without any apology, after you had to make them 3-4 months in advance. Dont bother trying to make an appointment with anyone for mental health services. They rarely pick up the phone and dont call back. Finally had an appointment today just to find out they double booked the therapist and the other patient got to have the appointment as mine was somehow in the system, but not really?! The lady at the reception was very kind, but when youre already down and in need of mental health treatment, and then they make it hard to make the appointment in the first place, make you wait for 3 months, and then dont even keep the appointment, that is just a slap in the face. Will look for treatment elsewhere. What a mess.
My son was being seen here. They were great at the beginning but it’s been over 2 months that he has no T. He has tried everything and still no help. They are under staffed and the people that work there, a lot are burnt out. The phone is busy all the time or if you write them an e-mail, it’s at least a couple days before anyone answers back. My son’s Primary Care Dr. ended up leaving to another hospital bc she was seeing an outrageous amount of patients in a daily basis. This is not right! Can someone change this or do something about it? I was happy that we were in this state but now I’m not so sure anymore. We are a military family. My husband was in the Navy for 20 years. My dad was in the Air Force for 25 years. I’m just appalled that my son is currently suffering mentally y physically.
Dr Mary Ruth Nagel (dentist) is the best dentist I’ve ever met. She is so kind, calming and approachable. She knows how to make a very uncomfortable appointment (I dislike the dentist), comfortable. I highly recommend her!!!
The visits were okay on the medical side, but there were several issues with billing and prescriptions:1. I was offered free flu vaccine by the doctor (Dr. Alonso) and he assured me that there wouldnt be a co-payment. Later, I was billed for the vaccine. It took many phone calls and effort to sort this out. The phone service is very poor, long waiting times, people not competent and connect you to someone else. Dr. Alonso was nice, but later left to another health care provider in Boston.2. I called and specifically requested an appointment for preventive medicine as it is offered in my plan, but was booked differently. After the appointment, I received invoices although the preventive medicine is covered by my plan.3. Optometry Department: The visit was friendly. I was examined by a final year student. She wrote a prescription for contact lenses, but it was unclear to me, that these are only good for a certain brand. I had told the student that I wear different brands. Later, I could not get any of my other brands with the prescription. I called them and they refused to change the prescription for free because it was more than 90 days later. (I only need the contact lenses rarely for athletic activities). I complained and asked to speak to a doctor, which was refused. I then asked to talk to a supervisor, and was promised a call back, but they never called back. When I mentioned that I would not return as a patient because of their poor service, the guy just hung up the phone.
Complete breakdown in care. This organization receives special funding to treat LGBTQ people, and for many services they are the only safe option for trans patients. I’m not sure who in admin is pocketing that money, because it’s clearly not being invested in appropriate staffing levels. Nothing functions here. i have to ask for every little thing multiple times, and the communication is terrible. I was waitlisted for a mental health intake for 9 months, only to learn that I will wait about 7 more to actually get a therapist. You are holding your trans patients hostage, knowing that we can’t safely go elsewhere, and it’s disgusting.
Requested my medical record when I switched doctors- found two diagnoses for disorders that were never discussed. Have called patient advocate and my old team and no one has called me back, it has been several weeks.Edited: can whoever replied connect me with someone at Fenway who’s able to discuss my chart with me? Or is this a survey that will not result in any forward motion for me directly?
I do not know how they can call themselves healthcare providers since I have been unable to schedule any appointments in months. They say it is because of a change to Epic, but that is no excuse for making health care inaccessible. The leadership should be ashamed for the violation of trust between the patients and providers. I will be finding new health care providers and cannot in good conscious recommend anyone seek services here.
Fenway health is a failing health organization and could not recommend it any less. I started going in 2019 and was elated to inform others about Fenway and how helpful they were. In recent months, I’ve been unable to contact anyone to get an appointment, there’s regular turnover with my medical staff, and the overall patient experience has gotten progressively worse. To add, the staff turnover results in lost information, poor relationships with new PCP staff, and a level of care that is subpar to what I’d expect for my primary medical care location. I had a great relationship with my previous doctor, and now I feel that I can’t properly approach my doctor with issues without facing condescension and dismissive attitudes towards medical problems I’d like to address. The people who staff the phones are unhelpful, and I can’t blame them as they are probably stretched thin with frustrated patients in the same boat as me. Healthcare is already difficult in the U.S. and I’d expect a lot better from an organization that markets itself as a progressive, low barrier, healthcare organization when I have faced nothing but barriers trying to access care.Additionally, there is a severe lack of accountability within Fenway, you can’t continue to blame poor care on what is the most convenient issue to blame at the time. Every time I call, it’s “we have long wait times due to _____” and you can fill in the blank with COVID, Monkeypox, the EPIC transition, etc. The only standard of care that Fenway has established is long wait times, and the message is useless if this is a continual issue.I’ve already filled out the Fenway feedback form with my complaints, but don’t have any faith it will be properly addressed, so I wanted to share my experience here.
I used to be a big fan of Fenway Health, but lately the place has turned into a total disaster. Impossible to get through on their phone system to make an appointment or even to confirm an appointment. They changed their entire online/phone system for confirming appointments to the point that my appointments started getting canceled, because the voicemail they leave does not enable you to use the push button response as you would on a live call. My doctor left early this year and I was assigned another doctor, but now THAT doctor has also left the practice, leaving me with no doctor twice in the last 6 months. I am diligently searching for new doctors outside Fenway Health and as soon as I do, I will never do business with this operation again, nor would I ever recommend them to anyone. And thats coming from someone who used to be a devoted customer. Do yourself a favor and do NOT NOT NOT do business with Fenway Health.
Went with my fiance today to his annual physical. His first time seeing dr.elsesser since his dr left the practice. Dr. Elsesser is a absolute JOKE. My fiance has been going there for years and this man seem to have known nothing about his medical history. He came in playing on his phone and only looked up to say hi. Meanwhile swearing while talking to us. This is the most unprofessional thing ive ever seen or heard from a medical professional. My fiance is also upset by the lack of care he received and any time he tryed to talk this dr talked over him. Now my fiance is looking into finding a new pcp and office entirely.Edit to add! The original post is all above this made 8 months ago, my now husband got labs done with them and Dr. Elsesser is still just as ignorant as before. He messaged through mychart and stated all labs are normal, me working in medicine i could tell right then and there the labs were not normal. Messaging back and forth with Dr.Elsesser and basically arguing with him that the labs are in fact NOT NORMAL. Finally he insist on him coming in a for a appointment to “discuss our concerns” meanwhile its a 45 minute drive just one way for us. My husband booked a telehealth appointment and one of the first things the dr says is your labs arent normal we need to up your doses. I am baffled at the lack of care and how money hungry this dr is that he wouldn’t just admit the labs werent normal, made my husband book a appointment to then tell us its not normal. How long would my husband had been on the wrong doses for if i wasnt there to actually inform him otherwise? Moral of the story is this place is terrible and would never recommend to another person, make sure you always check your own labs over and dont just think its normal because the dr said so. Still in the hunt for a new pcp and office.
I have been a patient at Fenway Health since February 2016 receiving care for medical, dental, and behavioral health. I am more than content with the services provided to me although lately there is a strain on employees and turnaround times have increased. It appears that Fenway is experiencing the same staffing issues that every industry is facing right now. I commend them for their commitment to delivering care amongst all new challenges.
I decided to transfer my care to Fenway after having a bad experience with another practice in Boston, and Im so glad I did! I had my first check-up appointment with Dr. Williams this week, and everyone I interacted with during my visit was kind and capable and made me feel at ease. Dr. Williams is extremely knowledgeable and also took the time to really listen to my concerns and explain what they observed and why they would recommend certain tests or medications. I felt like I had the ability to make informed decisions, rather than just being rushed through and given a prescription or a lab order without any discussion about it, which has always been my experience with other doctors in the past. I highly recommend this practice!
Appointments get cancelled without notifying you, and it takes forever to schedule one.If I want to schedule an appointment its at least 10 weeks away, Id probably be better or hospitalized before I actually get to sea a doctor about my problem...And it happened multiple times now that a week or two before the appointment they just decide to cancel it, which brings you to the back of the line 10 weeks out. This last time without even telling me, the appointment is just no longer there, no phone call and no digital message either.
This place was great pre-pandemic but is an absolute disaster now. The professional staff are excellent but the medical care is very poor. In just my personal experience, Drs. Often miscommunicate or don’t at all. They often misdiagnose or fail to diagnose common problems. The OBGYN department specifically is terrible especially the NPs. That being said the optometry department staff and medical professionals are knowledgeable and kind.Just in my last visit alone the Dr. failed to put in orders to the lab downstairs three separate times and as a result asked me to keep revisiting the floor I was initially seen on to tell the staff that the doctor had failed to place the order she required for my care. I also was in the waiting room with a patient experiencing a severe allergic reaction and the dr refused to see him because he was 10 mins late from traffic on 93. In addition when I walked into the phlebotomy room there was blood on the floor I’m very sure the chair wasn’t sanitized and, like I said earlier, I was told to communicate to the dr on her behalf three separate times because her phone was broken. The place felt more like a butcher shop than a medical office.
I started going to Fenway Health in 2018 with Dr. Mitra as my PCP. Had a really great experience until COVID where it has gone completely downhill. Impossible to schedule an appt in a reasonable timeframe. Had to go to urgent care when I had a UTI because no one was able to see me. Now my PCP has left. I tried scheduling an appt with dermatology and they only have one dermatologist now and the earliest appt was January for existing patients. Ridiculous.
To see a doctor takes months. Then when you see them they only spend minutes with you and they seem very rushed, distant and they run in and out of the office. Messages take weeks to answer. I tried to make an appointment in march and they asked me does the end of July work for me. They did put me with another doctor but a physical should probably last more than a few minutes. I am leaving.
I am a patient of Dr. Albanos and he has been wonderful, as well as his nurse Sylvia. As someone who has recently relocated to Boston, underwhelming customer service is sort of the norm around here. For urgent visits, I appreciated that other providers at Fenway saw me on a short notice if Dr. Albano was unavailable. Girls at the lab have always been kind. I just suggest staying on top of any administrative requests you have.
I used to recommend Fenway Health to anyone in the LGBTQ+ community who was looking for medical care. The care has rapidly gone down hill with covid really making a declining rock bottom smack in care for the clients.Issues range from:Friends being removed from medications and having to fight to get the medicine back.No staff ever getting back on referrals, medication refills, and more.Even a staff member misgendering someone who was clearly not a certain gender. Not telling people of canceled appointments.Disgusting.I’ll will be sure to recommend many other places over this one at this point. The reputation damage is done, it’ll take years to clean it up even if they started today and worked hard. Find care else where.
Have gone here for years but it gets worse every time. Throwing in the towel. Incredibly disorganized staff. The doctors must be unhappy too as they keep leaving. Getting your Rx refilled is impossible. They do not have the correct information saved no matter how many times you update them. When you get a person on the phone they will continually redirect you or just throw you back in the queue. Most of the time you are on hold for hours. Save yourself the hassle!
Great service upstairs but they really need to not outsource their lab. Having to go back downstairs to the lobby with a bag of samples and wait another 30 minutes in a hallway with 10 other people after my appointment to have my blood drawn and give them my samples was not ideal.
Never seen a medical facility driven so hard into the ground so fast. A few years ago it was fantastic. Easy to get appointments, they were always on time, very responsive and caring. Now it takes months to get an appointment. If it’s Zoom, you’re lucky if the doctor even shows up. If it’s in person, you’re lucky to spend less than an hour in the waiting room.
I want to like Fenway, because the world needs a place that stands for queer and gender non-conforming health. But my experience was that when my health really hit the fan, Fenway was not there for me. In a sudden and severe health crisis, I first left messages with staff and didnt hear back. I eventually spoke with providers who dissuaded me from seeking help. I was told it was anxiety. I had to push really hard to get a referral to a specialist, to mark that referral as urgent, and to apply for the accommodations that I needed in my life.Earlier, I had also been dissuaded from seeking help for pneumonia, when I had been told by staff that my reported symptoms were probably just pain from a cough, and for a bad UTI, when I was told by staff that the pain wouldnt have been where I said it was. Both times, I was delayed from getting care which I eventually got at Urgent Care.I want to like Fenway, but if they are serious about their commitment to gender justice, then they are going to have to address the problem that in healthcare, certain voices (male, white) are listened to, and certain voices (womens, people of color) are not. Fenway should be at the vanguard of addressing justice in healthcare, not way behind.
Really awful care. Its great that Fenway offers non-judgmental, inclusive care to the LGBTQIA+ community, but that care doesnt mean anything given that its so hard to access healthcare providers there. Hold times and the IVR make it difficult to get an actual person on the phone, once you get someone on the phone they are not knowledgable of how to assist, simple appointments need to be scheduled months in advance, to name a few pain points. Fenway always bills my health insurance, even asking them not to bill my health insurance for care covered by mass health, and errors have been made for critical medication refills. All in all Fenway really makes me question....does this healthcare provider actually care about their patients or are we just a number?
Ive been waiting for a refill on my meds for nearly a month and my doctor wont answer me. Ive never received worse care, I feel as though fenway health could not care less about me receiving the care I need.
Had 3 of my PCPs quit in the span of about 18 months, prescriptions taking forever to process, it seems to have really fallen down in the last few years.
Today I was scheduled for an eye exam in the optometry department. I paid a $50 co payment as my insurance requires. I was expecting a full eye exam just to make sure everything was going good. I decided to bring up an issue about my eyes being sensitive to light, and perhaps have them sign a document for me. I was given no more then three test and was told I would need to seek out a specialist because they didn’t have the proper “equipment” to test my sensitivity. So I was still expecting my full eye exam but was told my appointment was booked as a eye concern (The light sensitivity) rather then a routine eye exam. The doctor was very forgiving and stated I wouldn’t need to pay another co payment and would reschedule me for a full exam. But why would they book me for that type of appointment when they don’t even have the “equipment” to test anything? They could’ve saved me a lot of time and hassle.
Ridiculous that they do not answer the phone OR call back. Do better as a health facility. I was unable to reach anybody over the phone.
Fenway health provides decent care, however be warned that if you don’t use their services for a period of time, they will consider you a new patient and if they aren’t accepting new patients, you are left without a PCP. No way around it.
All their other services are great but their psychiatry department has rescheduled me 3 times in 1 month after I waited 4 months(!!!) for my original appointment. And every time its last minute and they act surprised that Im tired of being rescheduled, medication is important and waiting over 8 months to change it isnt something people can do especially when they were originally told the waitlist is 4 months. Genuinely so let down.
Fenway Health has some great services for the community it serves and the providers, the majority of the time, have been outstanding. There was only one provider that I had a terrible experience with. Why I rate this place 3 stars is because it is nearly impossible to get a hold of a provider, nursing staff, or even the secretarys desk for something as simple as paperwork. A patient has to go through the call center and then wait for a call back from someone in the providers office. You could literally spend all day waiting for this call back and if you miss the call there is no way to directly call them back. This is a broken system and delays important, simple documentation necessities and communications. I work as a nurse in an ICU and its much easier to connect to the ICU than it is to talk to anyone relevant to your care at Fenway health. Why?
I have not yet had anything to complain about. Attentive doctors who listen to your concerns and dont just ignore them. They have a complete pharmacy with really great technicians. They have optical and dental services. They have a great mix of older doctors with good experience and younger doctors with the latest training. If I can see my primary care physician I try to, but Im never disappointed by the other doctors Ive seen. They are super friendly and welcoming to the LGBTQIA+ community. My insurance gives me a lower copay if Im there, so I wish they would expand to have ultrasounds and other radiology available since Im already getting almost all of my care there. (one time I needed some imaging and had to go to Brookline, which was fine but for an organization of their size, I was a little surprised they couldnt do it in-house).
Ive been coming here for the past 4-5 years and in the beginning it was great, little minor things but recently, this past year the service from the front desk is terrible. It takes about an hour to even get ahold of someone to make the appointment over the phone. I was 10th in line for a call back, they called me back and I was still on hold for another 30 minutes.... I just gave up and looking for another Medical Practice. The make appointment online option does not even work. The NP Lauren Wasley I see is amazing otherwise. I would not recommend this place to anyone I know.
Being an international student, getting medical help isnt straightforward or easy. I didnt have a PCP for almost 2.5 years and wasnt aware of the term until I was required to see a doctor due to certain health issues. I prefer doctors who take the time to understand their patients concerns before winding up their appointment, most of them are impatient. After two appointments with Dr. Alonzo, I elected him as my PCP just because of how comfortable he made me feel. He is always thorough with his investigation and puts your mind at ease.
SO many people recommended me this place, but honestly... Im disappointed. my doctor said I would get testosterone in a month and Ive been waiting almost FIVE months and I havent even gotten my first prescription yet. Ive also called multiple times to say I havent gotten my t and they said they would fix it right away and weeks later... still nothing. Its partially my pharmacys fault too... because they cant give out 60 packs of testosterone because its above the legal limit. Doctor is extremely unprofessional. doesnt get back to me about anything, and told me parental guardianship didnt matter when it did. If you have doctor Ocampo... just switch because he does NOT get back to you.
I stopped going to fenway after my own awful experiences with their disorganized admin team. I assumed after a couple years it would be better, but apparently not. My partner was supposed to have an intake appointment today, got there and was informed their appointment had been canceled but the staff had forgot to let them know. Just wow. I cant believe how bad the staff is there. It boggles the mind how this place is still open.
Final straw negative experience. This provider has severely lost its mission and effectiveness in the last 2 years. Very sad as it once was a great service to the community. Not sure if its chances in management or policy but service has gone to zero in the last two years.
I had an excellent experience with Fenway Health. The entire staff was so kind, compassionate, and educated. This was my best experience with a doctor probably ever.
Save your time & money and go elsewhere! after being passed around from provider to provider for the past two years i am looking for a new pcp. its impossible to get ahold of anyone at fenway in a timely manner. I had abnormal xray results in november -- i was sent a message but there is nothing about this in my chart. i was asked to find a pt, but my condition is complicated and i was not told what part of my body or what condition to request help with. at the end of february i went in for bloodwork. after about two weeks quest got back to me -- abnormal results. no one reached out to me to discuss this and no one put it in my chart for three months. when someone finally sent me a message, they gave a halfhearted apology and said my labs had been lost in the shuffle. on two separate occasions i have been scheduled at the south end location and no one has mentioned to me that i need to go to south end instead of boylston st, the only facility i have ever attended an appointment at. because of this i have wasted money on transport and missed important and urgent appointments. i had a provider attempt to break continuity of care and tell me to find a psychiatrist while i was waitlisted with several psychiatrists. every provider i have seen at fenway seems completely overwhelmed and unable to muster any care for the patient in front of them. there is a high level of competence for trans related issues but seemingly little for any other topic. at this point i would genuinely rather give a compassionate but uninformed provider a trans 101 lesson than work with the people here. its a shame because the idea and intentions are so good.
Im only giving 3 stars because I have a good pcp and dentist. Lab workers seem short staff call centers are rude. Nurses/anyone other than your main care provider can careless what you going through or dealing with. Very condescending tone when they speaking to you just poor staffing and customer service and the Portal they barley get back to you and never address then issues promptly. Theres always a weeks out to address something that needs immediate attention.
I went to the dental facility at Fenway Health and had the most easy and helpful experience. Dentistry isnt always fun and can be a little uncomfortable, but the team always made sure I was feeling good.Melanie, the dental hygienist was on TOP OF IT. I think its really important to give the why behind everything and she really informed me about dental health and how we could reach my goals for my mouth. She made it seem so easy and I have been able to keep up with a more rigorous dental routine that is easy.Shout out to Melanie! I had to request to be with her each time.
So far, my doctor and his staff have been incredible. Fenway loses stars for the awful, awful call center system. It’s infuriating. I’ve needed to get ahold of my team twice now for time sensitive questions and the first time I had to bully my way through the poor call center reps objections just to speak to a nurse. The second time I was unable to get through and I’m now waiting on a “call back” that will hopefully arrive in time to let me know whether I need to start my 1.5 hour drive to Boston or not 🙄 whatever you’re saving by structuring things this way is not worth the stress it puts on your patients.
I really would like to like Fenway, but they are so disorganized all the the time. I waited months for an optometry appointment with someone who specializes in my condition and who could follow up after my eye surgery, and Fenway waited until just days before my appointment to tell me they don’t accept Cigna. (Which…who doesn’t accept Cigna??) Now I have to wait for months again somewhere else with a super outdated prescription. I gave my insurance information when I made the appointment, so it’s just so frustrating to not have anyone mention they don’t take it.But the doctor I was seeing, Dr. Lewis, is incredible and I really like her.
Best trans friendly clinic I have ever been to. Be aware that visits are a little sparse, and primary care is heavily booked in advance. Mental health services has a 3 month wait. Comes with a pharmacy downstairs with good insurance support and a blood test area for getting blood drawn.
I tested positive COVID-19, so I called the office about Paxlovid. The only response that I got was my pharmacy calling me about the side effects of the medication after the Dr. sent them the prescription. I NEVER GOT A CALL FROM A NURSE OR DOCTOR TO DISCUSS MY SYMPTOMS. It would seem it is time to switch practices.
Ive always had great experiences with dental care here. My dental hygienist Melanie is always extremely thorough and takes the time to explain what they are looking for and what I can do to improve my oral health. Im also really impressed with the dental offices COVID precautions. Each working area is sealed off with an air filter in each room. I felt very comfortable returning to the dentist after not going since the COVID pandemic started.
I have been a patient at Fenway for more than two years. They are clearly stretched for resources which brings their standard of care way down. Refill requests take WEEKS even though their automated system assures they will be handled with a few days. If you want therapy, youre looking at at least a year and a half wait.I have a thyroid disease and they were absolutely terrible about it - they kept raising my dose until I was having heart palpitations and could barely function (I was on 150 mcg daily as a 140 lb human which is insane). Took multiple requests to get a referral to an endocrinologist (who is great and has me on 125 mcg daily with all my bloodwork in range) and pleading with them to lower my dose, which they never did.I will be finding care elsewhere as I am really just sick of the poor care at Fenway all around. Having my pronouns respected is no longer the only requirement for my medical care, thankfully.
Fenway health is quickly deteriorating. Its nearly impossible to get in contact with your care team, messages online go unanswered, wait times on the phone are extremely long and often unproductive when answered. There is a high staff turnover rate with pcp changing once a year. They seem to be in completely over their heads and are borderline nonfunctional at this point.
Seeing your doctor will take forever here. Why take on patients if your so busy and its six months in advance to book an appointment. Made an appointment for a physical several months prior. I called on day of to confirm, since I hadnt gotten any message on their part. Was told it was cancelled. I was NOT notified! They have both my email and my phone number. I live 40 miles away. Can you imagine driving all the way in and paying for parking. Never mind arranging my plans around it. Good I called. I did NOT even get a were sorry for the inconvenience.Rescheduling will be another 6 month out. Are you kidding me.... this place is going down the tubes. No wonder my previous doctor left.
Fenway was the main place I was told about for hormone therapy. Needless to say, Im beyond dissapointed. At first Julian Dormitzer and her team were wonderful, but as the months went by, the level of care went way downhill. Its a constant wild goosechase to get my medication refilled to the point where I often have to go weeks before they bother to contact my pharmacy. To my fellow trans people, steer clear, its not worth your time.
For administration part, it is really terrible. Here is my personal experience. After examination, they can not handle my problem and provided me referrals. So it is common sense to ask for the X-ray to help in future diagnosis.I visited on Saturday and filled an application form for my record.I called on Monday, they said they didnt see my application and it will be ready next day.I called next day, another staff said they needed 1 to 2 weeks to process. After waiting for 2 weeks, I still didnt see that.I called them again and another guy said there is no record request at all on my profile....I called/visited them 4 times for just an x-ray for more than 2 weeks without getting nothing. Please remember I am in pain and waiting for this record to visit another doctor but found out they didnt process my request at all!!!
My doctor is at Fenway Heath and I love how Queer friendly, trans friendly, and knowledgeable they are at Fenway Health. I feel comfortable being open about my health needs as well as being open about my body. The building is nice and clean without feeling impersonal and sterile like a hospital, and there is a pharmacy and a Quest Diagnostics right in the building so you can get everything you need done at one place.
I have called every single day for the last week due to needing a loan prescription for my depression medication to hold me over until my next medicine doctor appointment later this month. The first time I called, they said they would send the OK to my pharmacy, only for them to not do that at all, but to also not even write a record that I even called requesting them to call my pharmacy. The next day my mother called for me, this time she got a hold of my nurse who said they had lost my release form stating that I gave permission for my mother to speak on my behalf, and that she would need to have my present in the room for them to talk to her. They said theyd be in all day and that we could call again whenever, so they left it there. Later, when we called back and requested to talk to that nurse again, the lady we were speaking to refused to transfer us to them, and then proceeded to straight up lie to us, saying that the OK from my doctor had already been sent to the pharmacy and that the prescription was ready for pick-up. She was completely unfriendly in the call and treated us as if we were a nuisance for calling for a situation as detrimental to my mental stability as possible. None of this would be a problem, but keep in mind I have been off of my medication for A MONTH. Im giving them until Tuesday to cooperate and do what theyre supposed to be doing before I admit myself to a crisis center. Horrible. If it were up to me, I would not be using this hospital as my primary anymore after the bullsh*t theyve put me through in the last week. By god, I wish I wasnt transgender so that I wouldnt have to go here.Unrelated, but Ive been going here for the last few years and every single time I go for an appointment, Im told Im getting a new primary care physician because theyre being ~transferred~ elsewhere. Do not get attached to your doctor, keep them at a distance, because you will only see them maybe twice before youre given a new doctor.EDIT: Guess who never called in my depression medication for me? These guys! I literally had to call and speak directly to my medicine doctor at my therapy office and beg to give me enough meds to hold me over until my appointment with her. Never trust Fenway with your life, theyre good for nothing but providing you HRT. They dont care about you. The receptionists will tell you anything you want to hear so you get out of their hair.
Just awful. Financial department doesn’t respond to emails. Made a virtual appointment and never received a call…..doctors always late. Made appointment with the doctor months in advance, the front desk waited until the last minute to call and tell me that doctor quit, and the new appointment is now several months wait AGAIN! Weird and unprofessional with zero customer service facility. Will never come back!
Literally the best. Inclusive and understanding. I came for the dentist and had such a stellar experience, Ill move most of my other care to them. They cover general health, dentistry, optometry, behavioral health, and they even have a pharmacy on the base floor, so its really a one-stop shop. Great for lgbt+ community. Another benefit is that, in a lot of cases, theyll work out payment plans for those gaps in your insurance coverage, so you can always be taken care of. I tell all my friends to switch to them! :)
A very welcoming, inclusive, and professional office. I have received excellent and compassionate care here since 2010, when my previous Dr. retired. Office staff, medical assistants, nurse practitioners, and my doc, all on the same page. Recommended without reservation.
After 5 years, I have to write this. The physicians are great, the service is not. If you go here, just know you will have to call in your Rx several times before it gets filled. My wait for an appointment with my PCP is around 2 months. The customer care is an answering machine. Unfortunately, this is the only LGBTQ clinic I know of. Let me know if you know of another, Id go there.
I have been coming here since 2014, I must say every time I revisit the facilities things get worse. I had a doctor who over prescribed medications, I have been misdiagnosed several times by different doctors over the years. Calling them is a hassle, they usually give you the run around. The on call nurses arent too helpful but apparently are available 24/7. I am switching my PCP and will be withdrawing from their services. I urge anyone to go elsewhere for PCP.At this point hey are only good for getting PreP and STI screens
I am really happy with Dr. Fantos in psychiatry. He tends to listen to my needs and concerns and adjust my medications accordingly
This is the worst experience ever! Worst PCP ever!1. Not responsible for patient at all! Even though You call them many time for 2 weeks, you won’t get any response!2. I even doubt the doctor is professional! A simple exam, 2 doctors there have opposite opinions. Not sure how they get their MD degree. I don’t want to hear their debate, I only want to have professional pcp who can help me.3. If you want to make an appointment to see your pcp, wait for 2 months please.
I love everything about Fenway Health. The doctors are so compassionate and dedicated. Dr. Meera Subramaniam in the Dental office is exceptional. I had a big problem with a front tooth and she went way beyond the level of typical care to ensure that my needs were met. So thoughtful and professional. Ive never like dentists much, but she has changed my mind - so great!
Pros:Love the centerThey started Prep for me and the person who tested me came down with me to get a primary careFlexible about appointmentsCons:I haven’t seen my dr in monthsDr is ALWAYS booked for the next 3 monthsCome in for your appointment “oh you’re dr called off no one called you” when actually the Put you on the books for someone else?????? That I don’t even know.Needless to say after going here for years I will be looking elsewhere they are just too busy to care.
Love Fenway Health. The doctors, the pharmacy, staff on the phone as well as at the desk are all very compassionate and caring. We have had great success with this location and with a social worker from other location. We drive up from the Cape because they can accommodate my child and take my insurance. Glad it worked out that way. We gave had 2 totally different doctors. Both great in different ways. Only thing we watch is Red Sox schedule so we don’t plan visits when they are playing. We try to park on the street but if not parking garage right around the corner.
Fenway Healths Dental services are fantastic. Yes, I book my Saturday morning dental cleanings WELL in advance with Melanie. She is highly skilled at dental hygiene and spends time discussing the importance of personalized dental care, prevention and treatments.Top Docs at Fenway Health Dental, IMHO, are Dr. Cadre and Dr. Thomas.
I was a patient here over a year and never once actually met my doctor of record James Baker MD. All my care was handled by Helena Turner NP. I sincerely feel she was actively obstructing my transition to female. This place is so swamped with patients who think its their only choice appointments take 4-7 weeks to get. Try Mass General Hospital instead!
Literally the BestAfter years of going with other doctors and clinics, I found a home with Fenway health. I use them for primary care, optometry, and dentistry, and they are available for more specialties than that. All staff Ive dealt with, from doctors to nurses, tech to receptionists, have been friendly, helpful, and professional. Really, they hire and foster the best staff.I can only give Fenway five stars, but they deserve six.
I’ve been with Fenway for many years. I was at the Sidney Borum for about 10 after which I switched to FH. I’ve read a couple reviews from people complaining that you have to wait for months to get an appointment and that it takes a long wait before you see anyone- various complaints which are all valid for those individuals. But for myself and my experience, I have been committed to FH to care for my fairly complex health issues and they’ve seldom let me down (if that can even be considered for the circumstance). I’ve never had to wait months to see anyone, they have always had someone I can come in to see either same-day or the next. And since all the doctors work closely with one another, if I see someone other than my primary team, I don’t worry about whether pertinent information will make it to my doctors. Having eye and dental (and mental health if that’s needed) all in the same place is awesome! And if you need an x-ray, no worries! They have a radiology floor! The offer an extensive list of groups and other services like acupuncture for wellness and detox. They are very knowledgeable and very sincere and have always made me feel completely confident that I’m being given the best care. With their link to Beth Israel Deaconess, referrals to outside specialists are smooth and simple. All notes are viewable going both ways- lab work, imaging, discharge notes- no running back and forth to get records and no missed information from a specialist visit! The pharmacy downstairs makes filling any prescription insanely easy and the staff are super friendly and helpful. I can’t say it enough- Fenway Health pulled me back from the brink of death. I went from being on hospice care to regaining a big portion of my health back. I am so confident in the Fenway that I’ve transferred my son’s care to FH so he can experience doctors that genuinely care about each of their patients. 5 out of 5 stars! On a scale of 1-10, FH is an 11! The best place to go whether you part of the LGBTQ community or not!
Horrific. My family member came in today with an urgent medical issue and was treated with nothing but disrespect by the person at the front desk. Extremely disheartened snd disappointed to hear that a medical establishment would treat their patients like this. I am horrified by her experience.
Fenway health customer service has drastically declined. If you have a question be sure to block out 2 hours of your day because that is how long you will be on hold for to have a question answered. I have had them a few years and my PCP has changed 3 times due to the high turnover rate. I am currently on the waiting list for a new PCP and hopefully will not have to have Fenway for much longer.
A few years ago I move to Boston and my friend recommended going here because she had been going on for years. Overall my experience here is good. The the desk workers scene genuine as well as the doctors and dentists that Ive seen. My only complaint is the ridiculous prices on some of their procedures that arent covered by MassHealth. But to be fair that is a nationwide problem and not just this Hospital. Overall their service is good I just fear when and if I have to pay for a procedure out of pocket.
Do yourself a favor and visit a medical center with competent staff. I had to change PCPs after my work changed insurers. At the first visit the MD did the laziest physical I have ever had, akin to just looking me up and down. We speak about my poor mental health, and she assures me she is on my side, and will immediately send through my prescriptions. A month passes, and CVS have nothing from her. My husband has to commincate with her on their health portal, and she clearly forgot. She then asks him to provide my prescriptions (and doses) because apparently it isnt policy to take records during consultation. No further prescriptions were ever put through. I will be writing to the medical board to seek advice on this medical health professional
Ive been approved for a bone scan and have called and emailed many times in the last month or so, since the doctor approved it! Given my number and email a few times. Your new system is awful!
I really loved Fenway about 4-5 years ago when staff really cared about YOU, the patient. Now its much more business and factory like. Address these issues come back later and you have another question? Schedule another appointment? I just feel like I am a number, which is sad because that was never how this place used to operate.
Pros: Modern health care facility with in-house x-ray, lab work, testing, dental, vision - all in one building. Doctors and physician assistants and nurses are professional and show a willingness to help. Convenient location if youre close to the Fenway area.Cons: Appointment and billing staff can be challenging to work with. Phone hold times can be very long.
My endo has forgotten to request lab work for me several months in a row, and I had a weird experience where I felt super gatekept the first time I went there (they denied me gender affirming care due to my living situation at the time) the only reason I went with them is because there is no trans healthcare on cape cod. If you are on the mainland I encourage you to find somewhere else for trans healthcare.
Inattentive, inaccessible, uninvested, and willing to put you at risk due to gaps in care and monitoring created by the aforementioned qualities of the care that they provide.
If you need to book, change or cancel an appointment dont bother. no-one knows how to do their job and all the people operating calls have no idea how to direct your call. I was on the phone for over 30 minutes simply trying to reschedule an appointment. I was transferred to over 8 different people who all told me they couldnt reschedule my appointment. Overall waste of time, would not recommend unless you enjoy hearing hold music.
The doctors and nurses are good when you can get in touch with the nursing staff isn’t enjoyable to work with at all. They are rude and make you feel illiterate when you keep calling after they fail to send your pharmacy the perception you needed a week ago.
I have been a member of Fenway for decades. I am sorry to say that except for exceptional doctors the Fenway system seems very broken. I know we are in Covid but the experiences on line are pretty non existent from getting my meds to reaching out to my doctor. I hope you have an IT team working on your site because it is awful. I only remain a patient because of my doctor.Michael Beshara
Fenway Health has given me the best treatment than any other provider Ive had in the past. Theyre caring, professional, resourceful, and willing to help. The in-person support they give is a great asset to creating a positive, welcoming, personal, and healthy environment.
I love the doctors, nurses, etc but is the lab a part of Fenway or a 3rd party contractor? I get that we all have to have a little fun even at work but I came in for a quick lab with 3 people in front of me and a 15 minutes wait—which turned into nearly an hour. It wasn’t that long of a wait because they were busy but because they decided that right in the middle of a bunch of people coming in would be the time to clean, and it wasn’t that they were cleaning to lower the risk of Covid—they were organizing and laughing and moving vases around. One lady was actually doing her job. They put me and others at risk of Covid by keeping us unnecessarily long in close quarters when we could have all been a quick in and out. The bathroom wasn’t even clean! I can appreciate it’s hard to care about anything right now but I have to work nonstop 8-8 with kids every day. I unexpectedly had a school cancel so got to finally come in and get my labs done YAY— and I thought I might actually even get to eat before my last student. WRONG. Because a 15 minute lab (so the screen said) turned into nearly an hour for no reason. Everyone else is great tho and kudos to that one woman doing her job.
Their new episodic therapy platform is awful. Not only was I not informed of it before spending six months on a wait list. But I was also not informed it was bi weekly and I couldnt have a set appointment time every week. I had to take whatever was available on an appointment by appointment basis. Seriously, what kind of nonsense is this ?
It really is too bad Fenway still hasnt still improved their customer service. After leaving a few years ago after several issues with customer service, billing and a condesending doctor I recently returned as I followed my Dr here. After six attempts of getting ahold of the nurses line and/or her voice mail I was disconnected four times and transferred to the wrong department twice. This took a total of forty-five minutes. Today I called, reached someone eight minutes later and was transferred to again be disconnected. I finally was able to leave a message with the nurses department informing them that I will not be returning to Fenway Health. I will make sure to let everyone I know how difficult it is to deal with Fenway Health.
Probably the rudest call I’ve ever been apart of. I called Fenway health looking to get tested forCovid because they were listed on the site. I was told that I couldn’t get tested because I wasn’t a patient very abruptly. I said that it wasn’t listed on the site that that was a rule, and he said I’m looking at the site and it is and then hung up. This was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had in healthcare. For reference, here is their listing in mass.gov’s website. It’s one thing to only take patients, but you can have genera decency when doing that and treat people with respect.
They say bigger doesnt mean better.....Theyre right. Fenway was a 5 star place when they were small but no longer. A pretty building with nothing inside. I gave them one star because no star wasnt an option. My provider retired so I decided to give Fenway a try. Bad move on my part. Another bad move on my part was choosing Christopher Alonzo as a PCP. I called and e-mailed for a year about my PCP, with no results. DO NOT choose Christopher Alonzo for your PCP unless you want a rude one that doesnt care about you. DO NOT choose Fenway unless you expect the least from a healthcare facility.
I’m a trans dude and i’ve never felt more comfortable at a doctors than I did here and their trans health program is really cool
I remember walking in and being disregarded as a TWOC. Ive tried to connect to their transgender health coordinator and havent received any response. Maybe im having a different experience on the count of my race and perceived class. Seem to have a strong preference to cater to a more affluent community. Their entire management team is all one race and the board is the same and maybe 2 people of color are present. After being there for hours no white staff greeted me with kindness and acceptance and patients of color were visible. Im guessing this isnt a clinic for TWOC and poor folks. Sad all these resources not available to those mostly impacted.
Terrible communication with patients- healthcare team waited 3 months to send me information they told me they would email me after my first meeting. After my appointment they did not properly send my medication forms to my insurance company and they waited another three months to respond to my messages about this. Six months later they have only responded once and have ghosted me again. Still do not have my medication.
Do yourself a huge favor and go someplace else your life may depend on it! “Doctors” here enjoy not refilling important medications for patients. This place is a disgrace!
Fenway Health and Jimmy Kamel NP have given me a sound foundation from which to recover from multiple ailments. I receive a level of care that is indescribable. I have a provider that is available, invested and interested. I can honestly say Jimmy has saved my life. I cannot thank Fenway Health enough, from the bottom of my heart thank you.
I called to ask for help scheduling a physical. They were booked everyday for 3 months after the call date (which is understandable). But, when I asked for help finding an alternative care center in the area, the woman on the phone simply said there was nothing she could do then hung up.Terrible customer service.
It is typically slow and time consuming to speak with a nurse or your doctor. I was on hold for 26 minutes today then my call was placed into voicemail. The web portal is out dated technology and slow to respond. I wish them success in resolving their internal challenges.
I’ve been a patient at Fenway Health since 2012 and I’ve had nothing but an amazing experience. I want to shoutout Ms. Teri Duarte for being her. Straightforward and most of all loving! Any time I see her, even if it’s just in passing, Ms. Teri has been nothing short of a blessing to me. Thank you so much for all that you do! I’ve stayed at Fenway because of Ms. Teri. Me. Teri if you ever see this, you are a breath of fresh air!
The place and doctors are is great, the people who answer the is awful, they transfer you when you are not even done explaining, and because they dont heard they usually transfer you to the wrong extension.Update: I changed my review to 5 starts because they contact me to know more about the issue. I appreciate that they care about customer satisfaction.
My dentist dr Ajisa Liti is amazing !!!in my thirty six years of life she has be the most gentle, effective, informative dentist with the BEST BED SIDE MANNER A DENTIST HAS EVER DISPLAYED !!!! I am so thankful to her and this dental office !!!
I have the best care team here and they take excellent care of my spouse too. It’s not easy to be in healthcare right now but I appreciate the very attentive and caring team I have here.
Becoming more disgruntled every time I walk through the doors.I have a bunch of gripes and dislikes with Fenway health , Im very quickly losing all respect for Fenway Dental and its employees. But I must say Fenway eye time and time again has done whatever they can to keep glasses on my eyes.Thank you for that.
Grief and CompetenceFenway follows malfunctioning recipes for transgender care. Not enough knowledge on their end to correct what goes wrong. They need to learn to listen to patients and to learn from others. And Fenway doctors have yet to learn the difference between GRIEF and ANGER. They always misidentify negative emotions as anger, when in reality the majority of their patients are grieving from intolerance due to gay, lesbian, transgender minority status with the exception of those who look great and function well. Grief is a very big deal and causes people to act out, complain, etc. Fenway needs to become more emotionally intelligent!
The quality of care as decreased over the years. In an effort to serve more people they are overwhelmed and can’t keep up with simple tasks. They sent an order for a breast exam to their pharmacy. This was a huge mistake.
They stated there with six callers ahead of me but their refill coordinator line lets you only stay on hold for just 15 mins then puts you automatically into voicemail even when it told me I had only 1 call ahead. Very incompetent system now.
I been going to fenway dental for a year know and I always see dr.tyler know he is the greatest dr why cause he has gone above and beyond for me I had an issue with a dental office about ten years ago and they took out about 14 teeth out of me at that time but that dr ripped them out and I was in bad shape and I never went back to dentist untill I met DR.tyler and his assistant Roberta they both have done greatness and cause of dr.tyler I know have no issues with dentist as long as dr.tylervis there Ill be going there. Thank you dr.tyler for everything and my new smile of course. I wouldnt have this smile if it wasnt for dr.tyler. 😁😁😁
I cant say enough good things about Fenway Health. Modern facility, patient-centered care, and compassionate and professional staff. I receive primary care here. One challenge is that, while close to the Green Line at Kenmore or Fenway, when youre sick that can be a really long walk! (And now that I no longer live in Boston but drive in for work-- parking is hard to come by/expensive). However, I still consider it worth it to continue getting my care here because of the high quality of care and experience. I love the online portal where you can refill medication/email your provider or team nurse!
Horrible communication and Incompetent service. Took me 18 phone calls over a period of 48 hours to schedule an appointment that ultimately they canceled and were unable to figure out referral to different facility. You will be passed around to different departments where no one has any authority to do anything. Do not recommend.
I am disgusted and appalled by the severe lack of professionalism here! The staff is disheveled, no one had any clue what was going on, and the doctors were cold and judgmental. Its been 2 months and Im still waiting for someone to reply to an email. If I could give it zero stars I would.
Beautiful and very-clean facility. Very kind staff, doctors, and physician assistants. Very easy to schedule appointments, even last minute, even on Saturday! I chose FH because I worked nearby for four years.
Great clinic founded with emphasis on serving the LGBTQ community. Ive been a patient at Fenway going back 45 years when they were in the basement at New Edgerly Road & Haviland Street; they only had two examining rooms! Its been great to share their journey as theyve grown into the mature community medical facility they are today. They provide a large range of services with facilities on Boylston Street in the Fenway and at Berkeley St & Columbus Avenue in the South End. Oh, and they have onsite pharmacies at both locations featuring low prices for generics; they offer free delivery within certain boundaries. In case youre wondering, they serve all folks, not just LGBTQ.
Julie Thompson provided me with a great experience; personable and knowledgeable. I never dread coming to Fenway Health or asking any questions I might have. The staff is very friendly.
Have had multiple ailments/sicknesses completely mismanaged by the Sidney Borum and Fenway Health. Last straw was when they mismanaged a UTI and made me take four rounds of antibiotics that ended up being unnecessary just because they wanted to save money, and put me on a antibiotic with an FDA warning to use sparingly due to its dangerous side effects as a first round treatment. Got a serious side effect (tendonitis) and though the FDA warning said to stop the antibiotic at once, the doctors didnt believe me and made me stay on it for two more days, and my tendon ruptured. Pretty much completely screwed up my Achilles tendon for life thanks to this doctors ego.
I have had good experiences with the doctors and staff at fenway. However, if you do not live in Boston then they arent able to assist you in finding literally anything. I have tried to ask for assistance in finding trans resources outside of the boston area but still within massachusetts and they have failed me time and time again, even if I’m simply asking for therapists. When it comes to finding mental health professionals they fall extremely short of actually helping if you do not live in the Boston area. Hopefully in the future this will not be an issue but seriously dont tell me that there is no one who can help me outside of Boston when there are definitely trans resources in Massachusetts that do not revolve around the city. I’ve had to do a lot of research on my own because of incompetent staff who would not help me or outright told me there was no one they could find. Thanks a lot.
Ive never even imagined being so comfortable in a medical setting before; I am so unimaginably thankful Fenway Health exists. AWESOME dental, vision, and health visits. Its truly the little things that matter, thanks to everyone who keeps it up!!
The best medical facility in Boston, specializing in the LGBT community. The best professionals in a beautiful state of the art facility with amazingly friendly and welcoming staff. 110% yes!
Ive been calling for over 3 hours to get an appointment, and each time my call is answered it gets dropped and no one calls me back and no one will help transfer my call. Im not cutting the line I just keep getting pushed to the back... and i dont need the generic copy/paste response... i need a phone call
I am a real person using my mothers name. When I came here after suffering from a concussion, I remember the Doctor calling in to check on me and the physician assistant telling her that I was OK. I was seen by a PA. I have no problem with that, except that obviously I was not OK. It has been over a year I am a patient of Dr. Cantú at the Cantú Concussion Center in Concord.I have post concussion syndrome. I was not referred by anyone from Fenway Health to a concussion clinic or related. I dont understand the point of having a primary care physician in my case. I have 24/7 ringing in the ear among other complications. Not two concussions are alike. The Cantú Concussion Clinic has a grant and part of it is to educate hospitals or people like Fenway Health.I hope PA and others at Fenway can call them and have someone lecture them on the matter. Jessica at the Cantú Center is one of the provider educators. My life is not the same. I could feel my brain shaking while I was riding the train back and forth during my medical appointments. I dont want too many space explaining. But I just hope Fenway owe to their mistakes and please get advice on concussions from the people that knows. For example, Jessica from the Cantú Center could explain what we go through from the medical community, the stories are all alike. As for me, I am in debt paying to get better. If I was giving the right advice I could have prevented my post concussion syndrome. Please Fenway, Doctors🙏.I never thought this would happened to me in Boston, the sports city. I trusted the opinion of the health providers. When it comes to concussion, even if there was no lost of consciousness, you health providers have to take it seriously and please get educated. What you know is very little. Thank you.My life is not the same. I just hope and pray I get better and the tinnitus as well goes away and made a full recovery. Thanks 🙏✌️🌈
Their doctors and dentist are awesome at what they do,I havent had any issues at all their.I recommend checking them out if your looking for a small hospital to go too.Their is no Ambulance area for it though besides the front door area.
They will not give me the information about my husbands proxy. I have called at least 10 times and so have the social workers at the hospital to get the information. I will be filing a compaint with the state. Unacceptable.
In todays fast paced world there is a health center where personal attention can be found. The Fenway Community Health Center is that place. I became a patient there 20 years ago. My physical and mental health care needs are met completely. Its a sincere caring environment. The Fenway CHC is a health clinic that feels like visiting friends. Even though they have grown, due to the care and special needs of patients, it is a small intamate clinic. If one needs hospital care, they work closely with Beth Israel Hospital. I personally go to MGH for my hospital care. They are supportive of that and they do not mind working through extra paper work.I have shared my deepest private situations in the clinic and in the mental health clinic. The Fenway CHC believe in the body mind connection. I have never been judged at the Fenway CHC.The support eastern medicine mixed with western medicine, if that is what you want. I cant give the Fenway CHC anything less than excellent care.
They care about insurance and money that it, not their patients. Not a clinic, just some greedy people for money
Amazing health facility!Ive been coming to Fenway for a long time and I always receive great care here! The entire staff is so kind and they know what they are doing. Thanks a lot!
Exceptional staff, very welcoming of diversity, very inclusive and friendly environment. Definitely an LGBTQIA+ safe space. Gender neutral bathrooms are available here!
Best health care services ever, its a one stop for all services; Health, Dental and Vision. And if they are unable to provide the service needed they will find you the right person to help you.
I had a lot of dental work done here in the last year, was great experience with Dr. Jaya Chhabra.
Very satisfied!! Drs very nice, professional, knowledgeable, attentive, kind, always available, patient, speak to you not at you, keeps a good watch regarding your needs and health--HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Ive been going to the Fenway since the mid 90s ! still have a couple of the same providers they have a full pharmacy, eye care, dental, prenatal mens health ,geriatrics even radiology which is off the BIDMC networkBUT you go for yourself.
Incredible staff is inclusive and caring. Never go to Harvard Vanguard, only go here. Take it from a student... if you want nice people, go here.
So here I am waiting an hour after I arrived, because they tell you to arrive 20 minutes before your appointment... there’s a sign on the table in the lobby for healthcare open enrollment... for 2017... and a sign next to it about notifying the front desk if it is 10 minutes after your appointment... if you need to put this sign up in your lobby, then you already have a problem.
This is by far the best doctors office Ive had they have gone out there way in numerous ways to accumdate my needs there M.A.T program has saved my life truly a great doctors office I highly recommend
I went to pick up my new eyeglasses...wow, what a difference in my eyesight! Cant thank the staff enough for helping me (and the glasses, themselves, are pretty sharp looking!
Indeed Very helpful, responsive professional team and do attend with care to all patient needs. Keep up the good work ✍️
Most open minded and understanding staff, still awkward of course but the nicest people, and I highly recommend. They are prepared to listen.
Worst service. Been trying to get my prescription fillers for over 2 months. They seem to not have any idea what is going on. I do not recommend them.
One stop shopping for all your healthcare needs, dental, optical, lab (Quest Diagnostics), pharmacy. Its a nonprofit, community-based organization, a true Boston trailblazer, especially with focus on LGBT community.
Recently remodeled lobby with a more welcoming atmosphere; its now possible to find out what floor you need to go to before heading up the elevator 😜
Whether or not your referral department is short-staffed, attitude about having to do your job is not needed, especially when it takes 36 hours to call me back about an urgent matter.
Best care I ever had, my partner and I are patients there for about 5 years now, as well as a couple of friends.
Such nice people everytime I go in or chat with someone on the phone. Ive been going there now almost a year and theyve helped me with so much. I cant thank them enough 🙏🏼😊
Bad admin staff, good providers, loooong waits for an intake appointment. Good all-in-one Healthcare for queer folks who can wait for it.
Phenomenal and life changing positive experience, inclusive and knowledgeable of gender identity and all providers I’ve engaged with have been amazing.
The company does amazing things for its clients but they treat their employees horribly and there’s nowhere to park there just overall very cruel to their employees and it’s incredible to watch when you see how nice they are to their clients it’s like night and day.
This facility has the most pleasant staff, I feel extremely comfortable at this clinic! Highly recommend!
Fenway staff is the most happiest people I have ever met they are caring and supportive and always put their patients first
Best healthcare available. If you prefer not being treated like a number, please go to the Fenway.
For first time in my life I can honestly say that I love my healthcare provider and really feel heard and supported.
One of the receptionists was so mean I ended up crying once I got back to the car
Very nice location, but pretty busy as well. Hyper modern, and specializing in LGBT clients but open to all.
The absolute best healthcare offered to LBGT people in the state of Massachusetts and quite possibly the country.
The Ansin Building on Boylston is a very modern and stylish building. The staff and environment are both always welcoming and kind.
Get rid of the manager in the dental department. The morale there is going down the drain daily and Human Resources knows this as well.
This agency does remarkable work for the LGBTQ community in Boston and all over the nation. So glad it exists.
All staff very friendly and helpful. Dr. Multani is amazing. Well, high recommended
Really unhappy with the service I have received here. Specifically trying to get treatment and testing for a covid infection.
Incredible staff, but administratively overworked and error-prone. Constant delays, missed messages, and incorrect information.
This is basically Beth Israel with a focus on the needs of LGBT. But a location for a wide range of medical services for anyone.
Great service from the doctors, nurses, and all staff. Appreciate everything they do!
The front desk at dentist office was very horrible, she was on her personal phone the whole time I was there she wasn’t even check me in to my appointment
Fenway is a special place. I am thankful for the doctors, staff and pharmacy. I highly recommend it.
They have good doctors here very clean place a lot of information if you need help or advice.
Worst place I ever called, they kept transferring my calls without doing anything productive. Do not call them, its a nightmare for you.
Their front desk don’t answer calls. I tried to call in to reschedule my appointment but no one answered.
Great healthcare for our community... really helpful for setting up MassHealth for you..
I’ve been a patient here since 2006 and am thoroughly satisfied
AWFUL! They must get paid per extraction. Thats their answer for EVERYTHING, extraction!!! Bunch of quacks!!!!!
So-So administration and sketchy Medical Services. Great view of Fenway MLB 🥎
I am happy with the healthcare you can receive here in general
Never go to Fenway on a Friday. Everyone is already checked out and ready to leave....
Age discriminatory healthcare.Do not recommend.
Its a great place for LBGTQIA, race sensitivity and community ready.
Fantastic. They do so much to try to help you get what you need!
Amazing team, wonderful customer service, exceptional doctors who care
Would recommend it for anyone. They are great and keep getting better.
