Dr. Barron and his support staff are wonderful. I never feel rushed; he listens and takes his time answering questions and addressing concerns. I spent 20+ years looking for a diagnosis, and I was so demoralized. During my first visit, we spent over 30 minutes just talking before he did an exam. After so many years of being pushed through appointments, this was such a relief. I still get teary thinking about it. He performed my excision surgery in October 2020. While I was in recovery, he went over his findings so thoroughly with my husband. His follow-up care was so thoughtful and supportive. I will never be able to thank him enough. I recommend him to everyone, particularly those living with endometriosis.
Two weeks post total hysterectomy and feeling so good about my decision to go to Dr. Barron. Called to schedule appointment in July, was in the office for my first visit/consultation in August (he spent an hour with me, btw), and was on the operating table just a month later in September! I had adenomyosis and fibroids, and I am amazed how much better I feel already. Cant wait to see how I feel once I am completely healed! Also, I cant believe how tiny my scars are?! He only made 3 incisions, one in belly button and two in lower abdomen. The belly button looks totally untouched and the two in my lower abdomen are already virtually invisible. But even if the scars wouldve been larger or more pronounced they are so low on my abdomen that they would be completely hidden by a bikini. Unreal. In short, Dr. Barron is awesome :)
Dr. Barron is an excellent doctor and a great person. He is very good at what he does. Absolutely caring and carefully explains everything. Rarely I find a doctor in USA that will be very communicative and responds quickly to your calls and needs
Dr Barron was nothing less than amazing . After being brushed off and essentially ignored for 13/14 years , all of my questions were finally answered and after one appointment with an exam my laparoscopic excision surgery for endometriosis was scheduled & preformed this past Wednesday. The relief from being both seen & heard is something that is so hard to explain unless you have been in the situation yourself. I can’t say enough nice things regarding my experiences with Dr Barron and his team.
I am a new patient of Dr. Barron. He and his entire staff were very welcoming and professional. I felt comfortable with everyone there. Dr. Barron addressed my concerns by explaining what I needed to know. I highly recommend him and his staff.
I chose Dr Barron because of my daughter-in-law’s experience w him. She had a condition in which she was his patient for years. She absolutely loved him. He is very professional, yet a very compassionate & caring person. My experience was great. Dr Barron & the entire team showed compassion, caring & professionalism.
Healthcare is just not good where I live, & Ive never had my concerns taken seriously or listened to. Ive never felt that my life or quality of life was important to anyone. Dr. Baron & his Staff make me feel like I matter & that they genuinely care. Thank you for that. I am afraid to hope for good things, but Im trying to. I finally have good Doctors to make that possible.
Reviewing my second visit here. Dr. Barron and his staff are the best! He is medically advanced in thought, action, and outcomes. And he is so patient and thoughtful in listening and asking questions, as well as informing. He is professional and educated in my specific medical needs and willing to take all the time I need for overall health and education. His office staff and his nurses are kind and considerate, and so friendly. They are elite!
I am extremely grateful to Dr Barron and his staff for the care they provided me as I was referred to him to complete my second surgery due to complications from endometriosis. During each appointment leading up to surgery, Dr Barron took time to listen and answered all my questions, and explained in detail the surgery and recovery. Surgery went really well and I attribute that to the thoroughness of Dr Barron and his surgical staff. My recovery has gone really well!! I’m truly grateful to Dr Barron and highly recommend him!!
When encountering exceptional individuals, it is essential to recognize their excellence. In the field of medicine, Peggy Wilis stands out as the first female practitioner who truly listened to me and made me feel heard. She dedicated sufficient time to understand my concerns, diligently working to identify the root cause and develop an effective treatment plan. Her impressive knowledge and dedication are valuable assets to this practice.
I cant say enough about my experience with Dr Barron. I was suffering for over a decade, and every doctor I saw seemed content to send me on my way with just a diagnosis, as if knowing I had adenomyosis would somehow make it bearable. After bleeding for 3 weeks straight, and suffering with terrible pelvic pain, I had had enough. A good friend of mine who is as medically complicated as I am highly recommended Dr Barron, as he had done her life-changing hysterectomy and endometriosis excision.I was able to get my hysterectomy scheduled lightning fast, and at 7 weeks post op, I can already say it has been life-changing for me, too. Dr Barron was really thorough, as endometriosis is often found alongside adenomyosis. He left no stone unturned looking for it during my robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery, and thankfully, none was found, but he did find and excise a little pocket of abnormal tissue that has apparently unlocked the gateway to relief for me. I had set my expectations low, only hoping to regain those few days a month that I was in excruciating pain, but this has given me every day back, full stop.I drove two and a half hours to see Dr Barron, and Im so glad I did. As I said, Im medically complicated, so I cant trust just anyone with my care. Dr Barron took my unique concerns seriously AND laughed at my jokes, which is a winning combination. Furthermore, his whole crew was so compassionate and personable with me, and I never felt like a hassle or rushed out the door. After the decade plus of continuous heath problems Ive had, I never dared to hope I could feel as good as I do today, or that I could actually trust a doctor. Its changed my outlook on life, assuring me that not everything you worry about is going to go badly; sometimes things CAN get better.
I met Dr. Barron and his staff for my first in person visit feeling anxious and apprehensive (as I do with any Dr. visit). Lynda has a naturally reassuring disposition and immediately helped put me at ease. Dr. Barron was extremely professional, informative and kind. You can tell that Dr. Barron and his staff genuinely care about their patients. They take their time listening to concerns and do a really good job at articulating any findings and the treatment plan moving forward. I will be recommending them to friends.
I am so thankful I found Dr. Barron’s office. He listened and answered all of my questions and went above and beyond to explain my condition. I would highly recommend him to others.
Post op day 2 from one of the best surgeries I have ever had. Dr. Barron is the best. He is not only an incredibly gifted surgeon but he is also a caring physician. He is a huge asset to the Charlottesville Community. I drove from two hours away to have my surgery with Dr. Barron. It was the best decision I could have made. I am myself a physician. I will be recommending him to all of patients. I know he will take good care of them. The team at Martha Jefferson where he does the surgeries was also top notch.
Dr Barron is so kind, compassionate and really took the time to listen to me. I even drove five hours for my surgery!
I love Dr. Barron have had pelvic pain for several years and he’s the first one to actually take an initiative in helping me! I did end up having endometriosis! I know I have a lot of anxiety over it and he still always has patience and listens to me! I 1000% recommend!
The place was nice, receptionist was verry sweet...at least the second one was.Dr. Barron seemed awful concerned about helping me...at the beginning...then drops you when you needed him the most! His nurse Lynda is a horrible person!!The amount of care from her is something I wish better for a dog!! Really need to make changes to this place! I do not recommend to anyone!
Dr. Barron is probably the most thorough doctor Ive ever seen. He is calm and patient, and from my first appointment forward, Ive always felt that I have his full attention when speaking to him. I have been very comfortable asking for his professional opinion and trusting it. Appointments have gone smoothly, and I appreciate how promptly he or his nurse return my phone calls. He really has gone above and beyond for my medical situation, and I would recommend to any of my friends and family to schedule an appointment with him if needed.
Scheduling is a breeze - reception staff is very sweet. The nurses and doctors are kind and caring! Great place, will continue to be a patient!
Dr. Barron performed a supracervical hysterectomy on me. All went well with the procedure. No issues. However, my initial experience with him wasn’t pleasant. He was an hour late to my appointment (I sat in the room for a solid hour). When he came in he wasn’t super friendly. He did the exam on me and then proceeded to tell me all the things that I was doing wrong and that was the reason my symptoms were continuing. He accused me of picking and choosing what I wanted to do. This was all during Covid so the ability to go to PT every week was a bit rough due to having kids home on virtual school and mask mandates etc. One of the prescriptions he had called in for me was not covered under insurance and was several hundred dollars. He didn’t seem to understand why I hadn’t tried it. He abruptly ended the appointment after I was becoming visibly upset. I was there for a consultation for a hysterectomy not to be told everything I had done previously was wrong. He told me to come back in a few months to discuss again. I was so upset. Long story short I waited a few days and contacted him and explained everything (just like here) and he apologized and agreed to see me again and set me up for the surgery. As I said the surgery went beautifully. No issues. But his bedside manner and approach are not great.
Dr. Barron took me on as a very hesitant patient, and has worked with me to help me trust medical providers again. I have been able to start working on a recovery and get a diagnosis. I wanted to write a review in case any hesitant potential patient is reading this; he will help you. His bedside manner is wonderful. He is worth seeing! As are his lovely nurses.
Wow! As a patient who has significant anxiety from years of painful procedures I am pleasantly surprised by Dr. Barron. I have NEVER had a doctor interview me as a person without an exam. He took time with me to create a biopsy plan that addresses my fear of pain and the actual pain. I only wish I had found him sooner!Update: 5 months later and Dr. Barron has given me my life back through a surgery to remove problematic tissue. I am now free of 15 years of stress and fears that were holding me back in life! We continue to work on other issues as well that have never been addressed.
I am so thankful for Dr Barron and his team! They helped me get to the bottom of a frustrating, prolonged medical issue. Like many women, I had to visit several doctors before I could identify the actual problem, so I was thankful to find such a compassionate specialist. Dr Barron listened patiently as I explained what I thought was going on, and was even willing to look over the self tracking data I brought with me. He was also very thorough with describing treatment options. I felt cared for, especially during surgery, and I feel like I am on a much better treatment path now that I finally have an answer. Thank you Dr Barron!
Dr Barron was absolutely amazing during my treatment at his office in Charlottesville, VA. I have seen many doctors for pain I had been having in the pelvic area and all of them would just brush me off as if I was just having bad cramps. Once I was recommended to Dr. Barron it was like a miracle he was very thorough with all his questions about my history and was very patient with my long and short answers and was quick to give me his opinion. He just did my surgery on 08/11/2021 and the team he works with at Martha Jefferson was just absolutely amazing he was on time with everything and he might not remember this but I surely do as I was laying on the operating table before being out to sleep I remember him holding my hand until I was asleep and that just goes to show how caring of a surgeon he is. I can promise you that you will never find another doctor like him. I have heard so many stories of people traveling out of state just to see him and I highly recommend him to everyone out of state who needs a doctor to listen to them.
Dr. Barron is VERY sweet and professional, as is his staff. Ive had chronic pain for over ten years, and he has a good understanding of the workings of the female anatomy, pelvic floor, and how chronic pain manifests/is treated (and NOT treated - very important). I really appreciate his patience, gentleness, understanding, and open-mindedness. I also like that he had consulted with my physical therapist and read up on my files before meeting me - I felt very understood and cared for. He even consulted with other doctors for a second opinion about me after I left and got back to me the same afternoon. His office provides a patient portal where you can message him directly.Im picky when it comes to doctors, but Ill be coming back to Dr. Barron for all my OB-GYN needs for the foreseeable future - routine and otherwise. Certainly if he cant help me cure the pain, hell help me understand it better. I recommend highly.
Still waiting 25 minutes after my appointment time... 35 minutes after being put in a room. Lynda (the NP or PA) is rude and dismissive. The bright side is that the front desk staff was kind and brightened up the visit.Update:After I was done with my vist, Dr. Barron stated I cannot post two star reviews if I wanted to be his patient.
Dr. Barron is the first gynecologist who truly listened to my symptoms, frustrations and concerns with endometriosis. He thoroughly explained the steps for the laparoscopic procedure and made me part of the decision-making process before hand. I have never before felt so safe and well-taken care of during surgery. I simply cannot recommend Dr. Barron enough! So incredibly thankful for him.
Shortly after my operation here I went from having pelvic pain a few days to every day. I had been told by Dr Barron that some adhesions were seen that looked like it was caused by endometriosis, and if I wasnt feeling better he promised he would look for it. He also put it down as a diagnosis. I told him that I was having more frequent pelvic pain, but nothing was done. He asked if I was taking pain medication, and that was the last I heard about it. He recommended to just not worry about the adhesions, and go to a different Dr, that unfortunately cant help with my issues. Dr. Barron claims he offered a follow-up. Maybe he did, but I dont think so. Considering he said to just go somewhere else. It is confusing to also offer a follow-up. I feel something 100% should have been done right away, not later. He never explained why this was not adressed.I found a new Dr. and had a diagnostic laparoscopy. After the operation the Anesthesiologist came by and said. You had good reason to not feel well. It was so validating to have someone go out of their way to say this. I had been told by someone here that I probably already had the pain before I came there, but hadnt noticed it. I did tell Dr Barron before the surgery, I was having mostly right sided pain, and told him I was still having it after surgery. But from what I remember, he gave no opinion on it. However the new pelvic pain I also told him about started right after my operation here. By the time my 2nd operation was done, I couldnt walk or lay in multiple positions without increasing the discomfort. I had daily pelvic pain, which I never had before. No longer mostly on my right side but everywhere through my pelvic. Later my Dr. told me he was very surprised by the extent of adhesions I had. Multiple pelvic organs were stuck together and completely stuck to every side of my pelvis. Including the floor of my pelvic. One couldnt be seen until other organs were separated that were stuck on top of it. From what I understand some were twisted. Even though he had a second Dr look, they decided it was to risky to separate all of the organs because of how stuck they were, there was a high chance of causing an injury and they may end up having to do a hysterectomy and or colostomy. I am not giving a lot of details, its TMI. There is more that was found in my operation. My Dr said it was very easy to see what was going on. He also found endo in a lot of places. I understand with the type of surgery I had here, it is harder to see endo. My issue is that I mentioned I was still having right sided pain, with new pelvic pain, and nothing was done. I was also told I was at risk of having one of my organs die, apparently as a result of what this has been doing. This completely destroyed my trust in Drs for a while.A specialist ordered an MRI and an endometrioma was seen that when compared to the MRI Dr. Barron ordered was seen in that MRI, and my diagnostic operation as well. I was surprised I hadnt been told about it because that is endo and possibly would have saved me from having a diagnostic surgery if I had known. I am not sure why I wasnt told, maybe there is a reason. The specialist also said he could tell from reading Dr. Barrons operative notes that I have endo and said it should have been removed long ago. It has taken multiple operations to correct everything. I would prefer a Dr. be overly cautious than play catch up later. I have never had this experience before or since. The specialist I went with is so kind and understanding. Said it is remarkable I can function, and promised to take good care of me. That meant a lot considering everything and that the joint operation hes doing with another surgeon he said would be risky. He is said to be one of the top specialist in the nation.I Know Dr. Barron and Lynda wont agree with me. But this is my opinion, along with details on what was found in my operation by very skilled Drs, what I was told by 2 specialist and my GI Dr. I wish them and everyone else the best. I hope everyone gets the care they need.
I have been to dozens of doctors in the last few years. Ive had two colonoscopies and several ER visits. A laparoscopic surgery and was a candidate for an experimental drug that helps with pain management. Ive completely changed my diet and wasted A LOT of time, money and energy advocating for myself, only to be belittled, brushed off and even given the suggestion I consult a therapist. Dr. Barron has been a God send. He treats his patients with professionalism, dignity, care and actually listens to what they say. He takes the time to explain everything that he is doing and relieve any anxiety. His team is also kind, warm and welcoming. I cannot recommend him more and am so grateful for him!
My visit with Dr. Barron was exceptional. It was my first visit, and I was able to get an appointment remarkably soon. Before the appointment I had several phone conversations with the nurse and she was careful to answer my questions and returned my calls promptly. On the day of my visit the nurse and receptionist were friendly and perceptive, and Dr. Barron himself spent at least a half hour with me, probably closer to 45 minutes. I felt he truly tried to understand what my issues were, and made the diagnosis according to his knowledge as a doctor, after hearing my history. Some doctors give a diagnosis without listening well to the history, and some doctors give a diagnosis according to what they think you want them to say. Dr. Barron did neither, which really built my confidence in the diagnosis. I have fibromyalgia and have seen a lot of doctors along this medical journey. I realize it is difficult for a doctor to have a patient with such a compicated history, but there have been times when I felt the doctor was just too tired to put energy into figuring out the problem /solution. Not so with Dr. Barron. I would rate him 5 stars.
Ive been through several GYNs over the years. The one before Dr. Barron made a critical misdiagnosis which broke my trust. In the past I was severely traumatized by a male GYN which made me hesitant to see Dr. Barron after shining reviews from my PCP. He expressed compassion and practiced active listening. After tests he discovered the cause of my pain and extreme bleeding; prescribed some miracle meds until he could safely do surgery. The surgery went wonderfully and despite some normal recovery pain, I already feel so much better. Thank you Dr. Barron. You have changed my life and I will be grateful to your office forever!
I accidentally found Dr. Barron online and then later found out that he was recommended by my Pelvic Physical Therapist (Passages PT) as such a good doctor that he was worth traveling out of state for when you have a complicated case. Dr. Barron has since surpassed my expectations. He cares and listens to all of my symptoms in order to make sure that he gives the best care. I had been going to doctors (obgyn and primary) for years with similar complaints and he recognized that I have PCS and got me in for a CT. Now I can better make decisions for my health and diet to control my symptoms. I would recommend that anyone (especially those with pelvic pain) go to Dr. Barron!
Dr. Barron is an amazing doctor. He listens to his patients, helps develop a treatment plan you are comfortable with. Explains everything in great detail and answers all questions. He truly cares about his career and is one of the few drs I have found that actually want to help you. His staff is a pleasure to work with. They handled everything professionally for me, if I had questions they answered and if they didn’t know something they found the answer and got back to me quick.
I have never been a patient here, but considering multiple interactions involved me, I thought it was fair to share them, and what has happened since my talk with Lynda. The reply to Sharons post was a lie. A few days after it was left, she set up an appointment. Sharon thought she could at least talk to them and see if he was sincere, and if she had taken things wrong. That is just her, she doesnt like misunderstandings, even if someone seems unreasonable. She definitely found out she was right. Later that day, Lynda called and got after her for sharing her experience, she took no responsibility. I talked to Lynda earlier, and twice was told DR Barron would call, but he never did. She told Sharon she talked to DR Barron, and he said Sharon could set up an appointment, and they would talk. Sharon asked when she told me that, she kept saying times, when shown those times werent possible and why she mumbled, Well I didnt record what was said. Then quickly put Sharon on hold. When she came back, she said she talked to DR Barron, and because of her former actions, (sharing her experience.) they would not see her, in contrast to his claims. However, this started before Sharon shared what happened. When I was waiting during her surgery, I got up to walk around. While gone, DR Barron came to the waiting room, I wasnt there, so he called. However, I was on the way back and saw a doctor in the waiting room, I asked if it was him, he said, no. I was sure it was and went up to him. He saw me, turned away, and covered his face with his arm. I sat down and watched. When we hung up, it was exactly the same time, and everything during the call matched up. Since then, he has ignored what Sharon says, and when she contacted him, said what was happening and why she didnt think he handled things the best, he ignored it. They claim they care about her experience, obviously not considering their actions. Lynda said she would NEVER EVER, leave a negative review for a doctor. Do you cover for them or what? What do you expect after treating someone this way? Lynda said the review would make people not want to come. We dont wish them any harm, they just need to be fair. What is wrong with telling the truth if respectful? I know Sharon feels what she originally said was to blunt, however what she addressed was accurate. shouldnt everyone be open to receiving positive and negative opinions? If they gave Sharon the same chances she gave them, they never would have gotten a negative review. She isnt that type unless someone mistreats anybody or, anything. I dont see why they have anyone but themselves to blame for the review, they were given multiple chances. Actions have consequences. Also, the review isnt intended as an offense, although I understand why it feels it is. Its so other people are aware.Sharon told a doctor who is doing an operation for her soon, she wasnt comfortable with something. He was very understanding and apologized. That built trust and confidence in him, and shows maturity.Lynda even got after Sharon for the questions she asked to the reply to her review. She said it is difficult to build a doctor patient relationship by posting negative reviews. When Sharon said a relationship goes both ways, she had no response. Sharon told Lynda she thinks DR Barron is a smart doctor, Lynda said, YEAH, but when Sharon said ignoring an issue is not smart, she again had no reply. She hinted that the issues started before her surgery, even though Sharons review clearly states why thats wrong.Lynda, we would NEVER EVER minimize your issues, thats not what professional people do, especially those who actually care. We care very much for what you are dealing with. But that doesnt change that other peoples issues need to be delt with as well. We have no ill feelings and forgive what was done. Its sad someone could treat someone else so badly and feel people should be aware this is a real possibility here. We wish them well and are thankful someone has been willing to help where they fell short.
I can’t even begin to express how immensely thankful I am for Dr. Barron. He is one of the best MD’s I’ve encountered. He is extremely thorough, patient, kind & caring. He never doubted my symptoms and followed through with diagnostics before proceeding with surgery for endo excision. Prior to surgery, he held my hand as I was being put under and this was the first thing I remembered upon awakening. I’ve had quite a few surgeries and have not had a doctor do this prior. It might seem minuscule, but it was very comforting at such a scary moment. I can’t say enough good things about his office staff, Linda & Meaghan. I can’t thank you all enough!!
Dr. Barron is an outstanding physician! He is meticulous in his care and provided me exemplary care in the management of my endometriosis and adenomyosis. He has compassionate bedside manner and truly cares for his patients. His office staff is also friendly, caring, and goes above and beyond. Highly recommend!
True Endometriosis experts in the US are rare and hard to find. Dr. Barron is an incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate doctor who has expert knowledge and understanding of how devastating Endometriosis can be. After suffering horrifically for SO LONG and feeling hopelessly exhausted and traumatized by Endometriosis, I feel like I’ve gotten my life back! My hysterectomy has been life changing for me! I am no longer completely crippled and held hostage by my cycles. Having surgery with Dr. Barron has been a huge answered prayer! I would recommend him to anyone.P.S. My husband is a doctor who has complete trust in Dr. Barron and his entire team. When he has patients with similar symptoms and struggles, he doesn’t hesitate to refer them to Dr. Barron.
Starting with scheduling the appointment all the way through the actual visit, the staff and Dr. Barron helped me feel as cared for and as comfortable as possible. Dr. Barron spent an hour with me thoroughly reviewing my medical history and, following an exam and ultrasound, explained what he thought was causing my pain and helped me come to a decision about a first step in my treatment plan. This is the first gynecologist I have ever seen where I did not feel talked down to or pressured to make any decision. He answered all my questions and I was able to make what I felt was an informed decision. At no point did I have to wonder what was going on or why something was happening. I wish all physicians were as even-keeled and caring as Dr. Barron and his staff!
Many thanks to Dr. Barron and his staff of caring health professionals! Dr. Barron is very knowledgeable and was instrumental in helping me improve my quality of life. Also a big thanks to The Center for Advanced Gynecology for providing me with documentation to help me get my insurance claim approved! I will continue to recommend others to this practice.
After struggling for over four years with a problem other doctors either couldnt diagnose or blew off, it was nice to finally get to the bottom of it. Dr. Barron was very thorough and patient with me. I really felt like he listened to me and I appreciated that he explained everything carefully to me throughout the process.
I was so impressed by Dr. Barron and his staff! He spent well over an hour with me during a consultation, gathering detailed information about me and my health history, reading information I submitted prior to the appointment and acquiring the information he needed to make appropriate recommendations. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and is able to clearly communicate the issues at hand. I traveled over 3 hours to see him and it was well worth the trip!
Thankful for Dr. Barron and the surgery he performed that made my quality of life so much better! His nurse Linda is a true gem and such a vital part of helping her patients. I’m forever grateful for them and so happy to be pain free!
Dr Barron and Linda went above and beyond for this Nervous Nellie! Very patient and kind. Cant recommend this practice more highly!
The dedication and thoughtfulness displayed by Peggy Wilis is a sterling example for all healthcare workers to strive towards.
Dr. Barron and his staff are absolutely amazing from the ease of scheduling my first appointment to the continued care. During my initial consult he took the time to go over my medical history in detail and do a thorough exam as well. He came up with an immediate plan and follows through. If you are looking for a doctor that listens and really cares this is the one!! His expertise in the area of Adenomyosis and Endometrosis is top notch!!! Finally I have a accurate diagnosis after years of suffering.
Dr. Barron is very well versed when it comes to endometriosis. My situation is a bit different than many others in that I came to him after fertility testing that showed markers for endo (inflammation). From the second I came to his office I felt like I was in good hands. Its clear that he knows what hes talking about, he asked tons of questions and performed a thorough ultrasound to understand my specific situation, and ultimately performed a laparoscopy at my request. The surgery went well, he was incredibly detailed about the process, what he saw during surgery, what he excised, etc. and the excisions have healed nicely. If you question whether you have endo and live in Central VA, Dr. Barron is definitely your guy!
I was told, 9 years ago, that I had grade 4 endometriosis with serious bowel entanglement involved requiring two surgeons to complete their recommended hysterectomy for me. I decided to not have it done, as I was told I could possibly end up with a colostomy bag due to the severity of the bowel involvement. Nine years later, I was having such pain that I could not function any longer. I was told by my obgyn that I was way too involved for her to do surgery on at that point and recommended I see an oncologist surgeon (apparently oncology surgeons deal with more complicated cases). I decided on my own to pursue UVA (2 hours away), with the mindset that UVA was the best and I would find the latest innovative procedures for this problem there. The Gold Standard for endometriosis removal is excision, replacing the old style, which is called fulguration. UVA sent me to Dr. Barron for pain management until I could get a initial consultation with them for surgery. I thank God every day that they did! I learned that UVA did NOT in fact use the Gold Standard method for my procedure, which was very alarming as this hospital is considered to be the best. After my research, I found that Dr. Barron himself DID do excision, and had been trained for 3 years in a fellowship to do this laparoscopically with difficult cases.I recently read the reviews for Dr. Barron and was amazed that these women expressed my own sentiments and repeated over and over what my own experience had been with Dr. Barron. I also found his hour initial consult impressive, as he was very thorough! He was calm, professional, and further made calls to my doctors to further gain insight on my healthcare to make sure that he had all the information he needed to make his final recommendations. (Note: My PCP was so impressed Dr. Barron when he called her that she mentioned that to me on my next visit. She said he was amazingly thorough and she felt I was in very good care.)Dr. Barron was very cautious and recommended a clearance from a cardiologist to make sure that there were no issues there and an MRI to further investigate the degree of endometriosis involvement. His team was like a well oiled machine working together for the continuity of their patients care like none I have ever seen. I was told over and over by my previous obgyn and other doctors that laparoscopic surgery was not an option for me and opening my abdomen up was the only option. After adding 9 more years to the growth of the endo inside me, I made an impossible situation more impossible I had thought. Dr. Barron explained that he felt confident he could do this laparoscopically and I admit I did not believe him initially. I felt that he would change his mind once he got an onsite look inside me and see that it was not an option. I expected to wake up with the narrative being well.....we had to open you up after all. I was the one that was surprised, as Dr. Barron completed the surgery LAPAROSCOPICALLY! The surgery was 9 hours. I cannot tell you how appreciative I was. I cannot imagine operating for 9 hours on my feet with no breaks. That takes skill and endurance! The recuperation after surgery was so much easier than having to endure an more invasive surgery. I felt like I was one of the lucky few to have found Dr. Barron. In my opinion, Dr. Barron IS the Gold Standard. What a world it would be if we had more doctors like him. Thank you Dr. Barron. It has been over a year since my surgery and I am still just as grateful for my experience and enthusiastically still singing your praises.
After several years of frustration in treatment of Endometriosis, it was really amazing finding Dr. Barron and his team. I got an appointment much quicker than I anticipated, and the entire process was easy. Jessica at the front desk is amazing and helpful, and Tina and Dr. Barron stayed with me until all of my medical questions were answered (which rarely happens in my experience!). I cant recommend them enough!
I just moved to Charlottesville, VA area and saw Dr. Barron for the first time. He went over my history and current health in detail and made several referrals for the needed procedures that I have not had. He is very thorough and knowledgeable, his staff is very efficient, and his office is super clean. I could not be happier with my visit.
I received excellent care from the team at the Center for Advanced Gynecology in Charlottesville. I appreciate them all so very much!
Dr. Barron offers expert Endometriosis Care! I highly recommend him for all of your endometriosis and gynecological needs. Dr. Barron is the first doctor that completely understood and cared about my endometriosis related symptoms; and helped me find the best treatment plan for me.He is truly carving the path and providing care for a disease that goes undiagnosed and/or misdiagnosed for years. He is a true testament to Value Based Care in the American healthcare market helping to reduce cost, promote endometriosis education/awareness, and helping patients find relief.
I had surgery with Dr.Barron June 9th. His follow up pre and post op are so awesome and his staff that he works with at Martha Jefferson are all so nice. Just trust that he will take great care of you and you are in the best hands. Thank you Dr.Barron.
Dr. Barron and his staff are kind, patient, and treated me with respect. They included me in the process of my care and helped me feel at peace with my diagnosis and surgery. I drive a long way to see them and don’t regret it at all.
Dr. Barron is by far the best GYN I have ever seen. After many years of issues and being told there was nothing to be done; he was able to listen and come up with a plan in one visit. I would give more stars if I could.
My wife had an amazing experience. A doctor finally gave a very possible diagnosis and treatment possibilities after years of trying to find out what was wrong. Thank you, Dr Baron, for your time and patient explanations. She was so encouraged when she left his office, and when she arrived she really didnt expect much in the way of solving her problem. After having a name for the problem, she was able to read even more on the internet. So appreciative!
Highly recommend Dr. Barron and his staff. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. He genuinely cares and wants to help. He led me in the right direction and gave me a much needed sense of clarity.
Very thankful to have this staff as a part of my care team! Not only were they kind and courteous but they made me feel heard!
Highly recommend Dr. Barron and his staff. Best experience I’ve ever had!
