Going in to the office I was so super happy about confirming my first pregnancy after dealing with PCOS and irregular periods. I never thought I would ever be able to carry a child! The ladies in the front were super sweet and conversed with me while I waited to be seen. My name was called and I went through the normal steps of getting weighed, getting my blood pressure taken and then back to a room. One of the doctors in the practice came into my room and started asking a few normal routine questions and then got into my weight. She proceeded to tell me that the doctor who owns the practice wouldn’t have me as a patient because I was over weight and there could be complications with this pregnancy. While on their website it states in their words “ thoroughly qualified to oversee care and delivery options for high-risk pregnancies, multiple pregnancies, and more.” Naturally I burst into tears because I never thought I would ever be turned down by a physician due to my size. On top of that experience, the practice must only have 1 ultrasound tech because she was at the other office so I couldn’t even get confirmation of how far along I was or if it was viable. Needless to say if I was allowed to leave 0 stars I would because the practice doesn’t deserve my 1 star
This specific office has not relayed to me that ALL of their nurses are on call, Until today. Meaning you’re more than welcome to make an appointment but chances of your appointment following through are slim to none because your nurse could be doing more important things with other patients:) Today I was rescheduled for the second time and finally told that the nurses are on call because my nurse had to deliver a baby. Which is fair, however I don’t see the point in making an appointment if my nurse isn’t going to be available. Then the lady at the front telling me I can choose to wait until she’s done birthing the child to be seen. Which i’m not a rocket scientist however I feel like thats not something that you just wait an hour or two on. Anyways book with a different location , do not go here , they’ll waste your time and gas. Like they’ve done to me … twice.
While we did not have a bad experience at this particular location, I will explain the one star rating I am giving.Due to the location of this site, it is essentially where doctors wait while they are on-call for surgery (with the hospital so close). This was not disclosed to my wife before we arrived for our very first visit. We were not able to be assisted at all upon arrival and wasted time (we both had to take time off from work) for my wife and myself. If you are looking to be a patient of this particular practice, go to the other location. Also note: the owner of the practice will NOT take on patients with at-risk/higher BMI. So if youre a bigger gal, I would not waste the visit on this practice. Youre better off somewhere else.
I first went to this location because I was having awful periods. I have been treated for this problem on and off since age 13. At age 19 I would vomit nonstop and was doubled over in pain the first two days. I was missing work and school every month. I went in to see a nurse practioner. I told her about my family history because my grandma told me to. My grandmother had an ovary burst in surgery and my aunt had an hysterectomy both due to endometriosis. The nurse practitioner said that so many people lie about having endometriosis or their family do. She continued to say that my symptoms were completely normal and only option is an IUD. I actually spoke to a doctor later and got prescribed norethindrone to skip the periods. I started having pain and vomiting while on the pill so I went in for an appointment. I had Dr. Bhat, very nice, who did a urine test and scheduled ultrasound. They never called me about my results like they said. They waited until I showed up to my ultrasound to tell me it was canceled. I called the office to see if I could get medicine and wanted to understand my urine results. I spoke with mykayla who said they couldnt give me medicine or explain the results and told me to go to the ER. At the ER, the woman inserting a transvaginal wand into me says there are so many people clogging up the ER for things that could have been solved by a doctors office Forward to me now, Im off the pill and I start having awful cramps vomiting and other unpleasantness. I miss one day of work because Im vomiting on and off with pain. I go to work the other days with a portable heating pad because pain medicine doesnt help. I think this is normal until my left side hurts so much Im limping. It hurt to lift anything or bend. I leave work and head to the ER but left after triage because I thought of that ultrasound tech. I call Rappahannock asking to talk to a nurse because I wanted advice on what to do and they say they want to see me today . Later the receptionist calls me to speak about the appointment. I speak with nurse McKayla who was very rude. I was describing my pain and what was going on and she kept interrupting me. Then she said I should see a GI doctor. I think nurses do not have the authority to make those medical decisions to turn someone away whos in pain. I think her doctors would be very disappointed in the lack of empathy she displays. I was telling her I knew something was wrong and she said Because you know right in a sarcastic tone. I speak with office manager who says Ive never had an appointment. I dont understand why the first second of a phone call can be hi, I was just calling about your appointment at 2pm switched to another person saying youve never had an appointment at 2pm. Check your call logs because you called me? Ive also explicitly asked for a pelvic exam and been denied one because my insurance wont allow it. Honestly I am going to stop medicine and asking for help altogether. They made me feel alone and were completely unorganized. I will never go here again.
I originally liked this location because they didn’t take forever to take me back when I had an appointment, plus I had found an OB that I’d loved. The reason I’m giving a one star is because the lack of professionalism and the feel that the OB didn’t exactly know what she was doing or saying sometimes. I had scheduled an appointment and asked to see the woman I always see. They told me that I was being scheduled with her and when I got to my appointment, it wasn’t the same woman and I didn’t say anything yet because I hadn’t remembered the woman’s name who I usually see. The woman who placed me in my room, asked me if I wanted to swab myself. I told her that I didn’t and I’d rather have the doctor do it (obviously!!!) After the appt i remembered my OB’s name and then called the location and was told that she no longer works at the company that the entire staff was let go.
Not a good experience at all. If you can even get through to schedule an appointment you will wait forever just to be ushered out. The only option they gave my young adult for severe pain was to try birth control, no other investigating even considered. Then they have been stringing us along for months as weve been trying to get needed medication. Keep telling us its not covered by insurance, when I talk to my insurance company, it definitely is. I asked the front desk person to please connect with insurance directly so that you can check with them on how it needs to be billed/authorized. You know, your job? This woman literally told me Ive been doing this a long time, and Im not going to call your insurance. Completely blew us off and left us with no solution or help after months of waiting. Guess what, its completely covered and another office is happy to help us, competently, so they will get our business. Dont waste your time here, they are careless with your healthcare.
Worst experience ever. Left a negative review for two locations because they were both AWFUL. Lost faxes, promises of calls from the doctor that never happened, misreading of ultrasound by a young nurse. My daughter was in SEVERE pain and they dragged their feet, rescheduled her appointment not once but THREE times and were so incredibly rude and condescending when we finally got in there that we just left. Told a friend about our experience and she said hers was awful there too. Seek care elsewhere.
Horrible doctors office. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I was advised that I needed to take a specific medication for my pregnancy ASAP. The Dr said that she sent it to my pharmacist, yet upon arriving there they said that I was only prescribed 1 pill. The pharmacy refused to give it to me because they said that the Dr needed to prescribe more than one pill. I called Rappahannock Womens Health Care’s office about 8-10 times over the course of 2 weeks just so I could get my prescription. Every single time, the receptionist said she would put in a word to the Dr (which I doubt she did considering it took almost a month to get my prescription). If I was advised to take something ASAP, why did it take a month for my Dr to properly fill my prescription??? This is the worst place for a pregnant woman to go to, and I advise other pregnant women NOT to go to this office. They will have you waiting for prescriptions that you are in need of.
I have been a patient of 20 years within this facility. Despite occasional sub-par care, Ive never even considered seeing another doctor outside of Dr. Kil. However, I am now leaving the practice. First, Dr. Kil did a terrible job on my c-section. My scar is so bad that he even offered to open me back up to fix it. I told him that I felt my Tubal Ligation was causing me to have early menopause symptoms. After ruling out other factors, he put me on birth control and told me that reversal was not highly successful or a good option and my symptoms were unlikely related to the TL. A few years later, I decided to have more children and researched having a Reversal completed on my own(no thanks to RWHC). I found out that not only are MANY women having reversal due to the symptoms I reported, the surgery is highly successful, is HIGHLY successful with pregnancy statistics, corrects TLS (not an official illness), and is also a MUCH less expensive option. Dr. Kil made it seem that IVF was the BEST and most successful option for future pregnancies and birth control was my only option for these symptoms- making me question his intentions. What kickback is he getting for this type of advice? I then called to find out what OTHER doctor within RWHC has actually seen a patient during pregnancy after TR-- they told me they will NOT see me for a pregnancy that results from TR. Wow. After 20 years Im shown the door after horrible medical care and advise. I guess a thank you is in order since I didnt show myself out like I should have.
I have been using this practice for 23 years and I must say everyone is great. I have had a child delivered by Dr Kil...a child delivered by Dr. Shuman..a hysterectomy by Dr Myers..and most recently had to see Dr Shuman for a serious situation and the staff was prompt and efficient to refer me to another facility for further treatment. I would recommend them to Everyone for female care. Their bedside manner is amazing. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I have NEVER had a problem with anyone from the front desk to the nurses to the lab tech to the ultrasound tech to the billing department. They treat me like family anytime I enter their office and are always responsive to my phone calls!!
Nurse Caitlin and Dr. Meyer are the Best Women Health Team on the planet! The Nurse Caitlin goes above and beyond every time to make sure I am comfortable and taken care of. Dr.Meyer explains everything she is doing before hand and gives you a comfortable feeling of safety and provides excellent care. I am thankful to have this team so close to where I work . They truly care about all patients and go above and beyond .
Quite possibly the most unsanitary womens health clinic I have ever visited. The customer service was average. The staff was friendly. The clinic was very dirty. The lobby, the bathrooms and treatment room seats and floors were dirty. A staff member wiped down the exam bed and changed the paper before I used it but everything else was unacceptable for a clinic of this type in the United States. The disposable swabs used to do vaginal exams were not individually wrapped, but taken from boxes in the closet. The nurse took out one of the plastic tools, which I later found out was for my pap exam, and had it sitting out on a tray way before the Dr. ever came into the room. The speculums were not individually wrapped and were not disposable, but I did not find that out until after the exam, when the Dr. tossed it into a black plastic basin, the nurse was holding. The metal speculums they use are placed in a drawer under the exam table unwrapped then tossed into the same black basin after use. I know this because the nurse returned after I was dressed with the wet basin and placed it back into the cabinet. The Dr. did not wash his hands after entering the room. He rubbed his gloves together after shaking my hand and put them on before sitting down. He used his gloved hand to move the stool in place before my exam began! The stirrup covers that your feet go into were also filthy. After the exam the Dr. seemed to have difficulty answering my question about what the Pap smear tested for exactly. This clinic needs a deep cleansing. I suggest they hire someone for hourly cleaning. They also need to adopt some more modern, safer, sanitary practices. I will not be returning there.
The front desk personnel is very passive aggressive and all members of the staff (both the front desk and the nurses) leave no time for a patient’s additional needs outside of the appointment itself. You wait so long for your appointment just to be swept out immediately after they’re done with little information.
I started seeing the midwife Evette Hernandez in my third trimester and have continued seeing her after the birth of my child. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her. She is down-to-earth, caring, and thorough. I never feel rushed with her. She is a huge asset to Rappahannock Womens Health.
Their customer service is the worse I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. It’s a blessing they’re shutting down. I wouldn’t recommend them to my worse enemy!!!
I have gone to Rappahannock Women’s for many many years. I absolutely love them!!! They listen to exactly what my problems are and work with me to make me feel better.
