Some of the staff are very disrespectful. Think they are doing you a favor when its a government funded program. Then when you go off on them you are the one with the problem. But you see Im the type of person that gives what you give . That little boy with the dreads you better stay in your place you are lucky that I didnt smack your ass and you didnt end up in punk land. And the lady with the hair net or bonnet do your hair be presentable you work with the public . All of you do your job answer the damn phone. Dont wait till someone comes to get something oh you need and assessment. Thats your job to call and let them know .
Yet another day when the exchange is totally closed all day with zero notice. The last few times theres been a paper note (never once Anything online or on their phone system), but theyve fully given up caring by now. If they were all volunteer-workers, Id understand completely - but they are all PAID to do this JOB, and they get a ton of federal funding... But its all goes in their pockets. They run the exchange like a trap house, treating ppl like vermin who showed up on their home porch. Ive used exchanges on both coasts & the Midwest, this is by far the worst. But unless you go all the way to Memphis, this is the only exchange in TN.And their idea of exchange is cruel & bizarre: you dump as many as you have (40-200), and get 10 or 20 clean. You can beg & plead for any more, but good luck, itll depend on their mood. And I could deal with the constant attitude, (everyone hates their job sometimes) but theyre always MIA without notice, and when theyre there, the exchange is NEVER 1-to-1... If it was a business it would fail, but its a SOCIAL SERVICE run for profit by ppl who get paid either way.So if youre reading this, youre most likely someone in the same spot: in desperate need on a Friday, with all bent and blunt rigs, from another county or out of state, and they decided to take another surprise day off & tell no one. Youre not alone, they do this ALL the time.
I understand theyre probably underfunded but this place has gotten ridiculous. You cant ever tell if theyre open unless you go down there. They dont answer the phone and they dont manage their website. Also, they pick and chose their favorites and those people get catered to while others are left with minimal help. Seems to me maybe if they had a new manager and new staff it would probably be a more effective tool in helping marginalized people.
This is just a brief update to my experience with street works. Everything I stated previously I stand by. I really wish street works employees saw the numerous complaints about them notAdhering to posted hours. Now Im going to make an assumption that the vast majority of pp who go to street works are lower to lower middle class. Certainly dope inarguably has a way of destroying ones financial security and well being. This said my experience is that peopleIve lived in several cities throughout the US and have frequented street works or the equivalent of in each city. I can say with absolute certainty that the street works in Nashville TN significantly underperforms in comparison. First, in terms of product they give one bag of spikes out, a couple alcohol pads, a tourniquet, and a pyrex should the individual ask for the pyrex. This is it. Compared to others Ive been to they dont distribute cottons, sterile water, cookers, chore, etc... One bag is too little especially considering they are closed on weekends and if they so desire weekdays as well. Most other organizations Ive been to give out at least two bags. Ive been to one that if I were to tell them I was supplying for my entire camp I could get a long box that contains 10 other boxes each with 10 bags. So essentially 1,000 needles. Additionally as I alluded to the hours are not strictly adhere to. They claim they are open Monday through Friday though over the past two weeks Ive been to them three times on weekdays and they were closed on all three occasions. Furthermore, on one of those occasions a lady emerged from behind the gate to inform me that they were out of needles! This is absurd. I have to ask the question are they really serious about helping addicts? If they arent they should move over and let some other people who are serious step in. An organization whose sole business is to hand out needles that runs out of needles has faile in my opinion. Did nobody see that they were running out of needles? Was an order not put in for more? Was the requisite funding not obtained in a timely matter? I ask these questions and more. And then I would say to them youre playing with peoples lives. If you cant do the job step aside. I cant say it to them because the phone number posted on Google is not accurate. This is the type of business we are dealing with.
Thank you so much for the assistance. You helped make my stay in nashville tolerable. I wouldve starved without ya.
Update:. Previously, I posted the review below, and I no longer believe my statements to be true or accurate of, Street works. Street work employees no longer demonstrate any real concern or care about the services and, or, the people thet are their to protect. Its all about punching that time clock. Who cares if people are dying in the streets with infections and diseases..............Real and Down to Earth people. This place is a God sent! Without the programs and services they provide alot of folks would be dead or close to it without their help. Thank you to all the employees of street works, even Robert! 😂
Well its an amazing place but I just went by the location and even though the hours of operation are from 8am to 4:30pm they were closed before 3pm today which is Thursday, August 24th.
Please come to Hermitage to pickup all the used syringes that are littering the homeless camp . They are everywhere. Dangerous to animals, children and all other.
Ridiculous website says they close at 4:30 PM got here at 4 o’clock and the door is locked they are supposed to be about people and help them be clean but don’t honor the time their website advertised very disappointing…
The address says 1326B but on gps put in 1312 Rosa parks. It’s the alley in the back, b door. Just knock. Very friendly people that don’t look at you any different. Also very nice to have the narcan whether you’re an addict or not.
Closed at 2 I have use old points all weekend cause they only trade ten at a time
These people are wonderful for doing this without them Id probably have hep c. But trying to meet up with them and talk are issues they really need more help with
Extremely informative... The staff shared with me kindness and support... The staff are professional and also down to earth... They permeate hope, courage, and humility... They continue, day after day to give hurting and broken people the true and undeserving Agape Love that we all truly need...
Best program and does a lot of good for the community I know a lot of people who rely on them an would be dead without them keep up the great work
Hands down probably the best exchange program in all of Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you all for all you do and much more 🙏
Wonderful people. Very kind and helpful.
God Bless the Streets #StreetWorks 🤞♥️💪💯
Always a blessing
