I love St. Anns Courner...La Cueva. All the Staff treats you like family. Thank you so much Joyce Rivera for everything that you have accomplished for all of us. You are a woman that I admire, you are a hero for so many people!!! Love you from the bottom of my heart. Will always be great full to you and all of your staff. We are a family. The acupuncture Santuary is divine
First I will say that some of the staff here are truly excellent. And the acupuncture is great. However, this place is discriminatory towards Melaninated Men or so-called Black Men in particular. The staff favors those who are Spanish and consistently speak it blatantly, while criticizing and bak biting on the clients or participants (i.e, clients). As well, there is no substitute for pork with the meals they serve and there always seems to be a problem with serving black men among the kitchen staff, giving rude attitudes and disrespectful behavior. The La Cueva section of St. Anns has a power hungry, and authoritarian staff that cares more about asserting their one sided dictatorship as opposed to actually listening, aiding, and or helping individual participants rather than being there for a paycheck and control of other people. They totally lack empathy, listening skills, and subjugate their own false assessments of people based on assumptions and judgemental ideas they hold of us.I particularly was thrown out by Anthony Ismael one night because someone else came in high and being loud and disrupted the entire room and upon being removed, rightfully so, by a staff member, he calls me out and demands that I was involved in all the disruptions all though I was no where near nor had no words with the situation. Yet, NO ONE there backed me up as he insisted that I was a part of the problem. And yes, this guy is a brown brother who is on the power hungry tip as a majority of that facility is at night. When I made this known and that this incident caused me to refrain from attending since I was definitely wrongfully mistreated, absolutely NOTHING was done about it. Signifying that no one cares nor bothers to correct any wrong doings made by staff towards the community theyre getting paid to help. All in all, I guess its a great place as these 4-5 year old reviews suggest..... unless youre a Black Man thats in need of a place like this.Because as well, within several months of attending and inquiring about services for employment, housing, a shower, & clothing at times, Ive been pacified, toyed with, disregarded, dismissed and pushed aside, with no results (unless I bring in new recruits to fill in memberships.)Perhaps, well get treated better and actually receive the many services they say that they offer at a klan rally.Signed,EXTREMELY Disappointed
This place is awesome and lives up to every thing they said they have to offer definitely recommend this to everyone

Ive been coming to the Sanctuary since March 2019, for the acupuncture ear treatments. It keeps helping me breathe better and I can now hold my breath underwater for longer. I was in a screaming competition and noticed that I had better Lung capacity, all from the ear treatments. Mentally and physically, they help me keep going. Theyve helped me better my ways, relax more, and meditate. I wasnt able to workout as much as I wanted cause of low energy, but over the year, Ive had changes in energy and strength. When the full body acupuncturist came on board, she was able to help me with my arm and wrist pain. During my workouts, i would have pain in my thumb and hands. The acupuncture has helped decrease the pain, and I learned that I needed to soak my hands and self massage my body. Today, I am more physically able and stable. I would recommend anyone to the Sanctuary at SACHR to have their pain treated, to get their ears done, or to find a space off the streets to relax. The treatments are beautiful and I always feel warm and welcomed by Rebecca and the staff.
St Annes Corner of Harm Reduction has changed my life. Having turned a corner of substance use and abuse I came here about six months ago to augment my methadone maintenance and the daily free nutrious meals. Over time, I began to fall in love with the Sanctuary, which is open daily to the participants of SACHR. Dont let its single rooms physical size fool you, the calming mantras, music and/or nature sounds played over the speakers will lure you in and sooth your soul to the core- that is to say the benefits of this small room will be tremendous!! Plus Ive been informed they do outreach at other locations in the Bronx (and Walter recently went to Puerto Rico to volunteer his services at an acupuncture tent specially set-up for victims of the recent wave of earthquakes striking the island) While I am an HIV positive former IV user myself, many of the clients are still using + while St Annes is not a safe injection site, they do support them & I, for one, look forward to what the future of this amazing facility brings to the South Bronx. They often say one addiction substitutes another to those in recovery, whether it be food, nutrition, sugar or even working out (yes fitness junkies rejoice, there is also a small gym here too) So I timidly tried the ear acupuncture for my fatigue many moons ago and found it helpful to assist my recovery and to detox. Over time I became a regular/daily acupuncture user. I cannot imagine how much money me or my insurance company would have had to shell out were the services here not 100% free of charge for. I now come to SACHR daily not only for a nutritious meal or laugh in the lounge watching television (or movies on Saturday nights) but also seeking help/treatment with my fatigued and heavy legs that were derailing my rest and sleep pattern with continual knee pain. While I am greatful to have a place to stay, my SRO is a 5th floor walk-up and I have problems getting up to my room. Laundry is in the basement so 6 flights up and down several times to do laundry (thankful to have that on-site too) is a killer! Now, circadian rhythm restored; The bright side is the courteous and warm treatments ive been receiving from Kai has been nothing short of magical. Post treatment, I feel lighter than air. Just a week ago I came out dancing to the Harrys (the DJs) music who entertains us all nights and weekends (and hosts movie night). Its like a great therapy session, but just a tad more physical. Rebecca and Walter also share staffing duties, who also assist clients with various certifications and specialties. Acupuncture is just one of the services the sanctuary has to offer. Whether youre looking to sit up right with seeds or needles for a few moments or to lay face down (as I do) with the e-stim for full-body treatments for 20-30 minutes twice a week, I simply cannot recommend the Sanctuary at SACHR more. To recap Ive been coming to the sanctuary for a little shy of 6 months, but in the last month have found it to be so beneficial and such a game changer I cant seem to stay away for more than a day AND I cant thank Kai, Rebecca and Walter enough. I wish more participants would speak up about how much the services have enriched their lives too. We definitely talk about it on the daily.
As someone who has worked in drug policy for many years, I recently took a tour of SACHR and met some of the folks there and was VERY impressed. This sort of facility is what America needs to get a handle on the opioid crisis. A friendly, helpful staff. All sorts of areas to welcome those in need of help. A true harm-reduction facility that exists to help, not to shame addicts. Thank you SACHR!
I had total knee replacement and was unable to walk without Walker. After seven months continously receiving ear/body acupuncture I now walk without assistance and even dance salsa. Great friendly staff and participants.
While I dont necessarily always agree with policies, it most definitely provides a safe space where abstinence is always an option
This is such a great place for folks who need resources regardless of where they are in their lives. The impact this agency has on the community is amazing.
